2014 Benefit Auction Details

On August 6, 2011, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was tragically shot down by enemy fire in Afghanistan considering this worst loss of life in a single incident during the Afghanistan campaign. 30 active duty military, and 1 military working dog, were killed in action on this day leaving shocked and broken families in their wake.
To celebrate these incredible lives and support families of fallen heroes, the 3rd Annual Extortion 17 Memorial Ride will take place on August 2, 2014 in Virginia Beach, VA. Since the rides inception in 2012, this event has raised over $335,000 for the families of Extortion 17 (2012) and key charity partners (2013).
All proceeds from the 2014 Extortion 17 Memorial Ride will go to The 31Heroes Project and The Travis Manion Foundation. The 31Heroes Project was established to honor the 30 Americans and a working dog killed in action on August 6, 2011. Today 31Heroes serves to impact the lives of our nation’s heroes and their families, while remembering the fallen, through athletic endeavors and competitive fundraising events. The Travis Manion Foundations mission is to to assist veterans and fallen heroes, and to inspire a spirit of service throughout the nation.

SEAL Afghani War Trophy Austro-Hungarian M16 Stalhelm Helmet

A rare Austro-Hungarian M16 Stalhelm Helmet, brought back from Afghanistan. It was acquired by USN Special Warfare Operator Senior CPO Thomas A. Ratzlaff on August 11, 2004 (one of the 31 Heroes). This Afghani War Trophy was found in Bagram in an old Soviet machine shop. These helmets were surplus WWI helmets supplied to the Royal Afghani Army by the Czechs, and originally had the Afghani crest on the side. It is in good condition with 80% paint, but no liner. An interesting war souvenir brought back by one of our elite warriors.

Two early pre-"Leap Frogs" US Navy 1960s era "Chuting Stars" Parachute Demostration Team Patches in very good condition. In 1961, the U.S. Navy Parachute Exhibition Team, “Chuting Stars” was formed to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Naval Aviation. In 1969, the “Chuting Stars” were designated the official U.S. Navy Parachute Team. In 1971, following a successful season, budget cuts “Chuting Stars” grounded the team.
When the original team opened the opportunity for others to the “Chuting Stars”, several Navy Frogmen requested this assignment, but only Frank Moncrief of UDT TWENTY-TWO was selected. He remained with the Team through the first show season; however, when SEAL Team TWO was established in 1962, he was anxious to get back and join his SEAL Teammates.
Even though the "Chuting Stars" were disbanded, over the next decade local requests for parachute demonstrations led to SEAL members to form unofficial “Para Teams”. These eventually grew in size and they adopted the name “Leap Frogs.”
Subsequently, in 1969, under the leadership of LT “Scotty” Lyon, the Team was officially designated by the Navy Recruiting Command as the Navy Parachute Team (NPT). For the next several years, the UDT SEAL Para Team ATLANTIC put on demonstrations throughout the East Coast, but the big break came in 1973 during the Annual Azalea Day Festival Air Show at NAS, Norfolk. Historically, this had been a Blue Angels/Golden Knights show; however, that year the Army had a scheduling conflict and had to renege. Being opportunists, the Para Team invited itself to the dance and put on a superb demonstration.

US Navy VF-211 Ready Room Chair of Captain Owen Paul Honors

This US Navy VF-211 Ready Room Chair was used by Captain Owen Paul Honors (call sign: "Opie"). It has the "Checkmates" head rest, and if it is flipped over you can see his original call sign (later stitched over when he left the command. The chair shows wear, but is in good condition except for a few repairs...it is very comfortable! Comes with a FF-211 patch as well. In October 1999, Honors reported to the "Fighting Checkmates" of VF-211, deploying on board USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). Honors assumed command of the "Checkmates" in February 2001. While attached to the "Checkmates," he deployed twice to the Western Pacific/Persian Gulf. As a Captain, Owen Paul Honors served as commanding officer of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise before being controversially (and many feel unfairly) relieved of his command due to videos he had made and shown aboard the same vessel while he was serving as executive officer.

Woodford Reserve is a brand of premium small batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey produced by the Brown-Forman Corporation. It is distilled at the company's Woodford Reserve Distillery. The distillery is in Woodford County, in central Kentucky. Last year, these bottles were bringing $1000 each and were opened and completely drained by the close of the auction!

Advanced Armament Corporation MPW rifles are chambered for 300 AAC BLACKOUT, and are 30 caliber rifles the size of an AR15 5.56mm caliber rifle - without a reduction in magazine capacity. The AAC MPW in 300 AAC Blackout uses ordinary 223/5.56mm magazines for a full 30 round capacity, with a 1:7 twist barrel nitrided to provide extreme corrosion resistance and high hardness for a long life - outperforming chrome-lined barrels for longevity without the potential impediments to accuracy. The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24 and includes an AAC 51-tooth BLACKOUT™ flash suppressor with the complete upper. A Knight’s Armament free-floating URX III helps maintain accuracy while providing for the mounting of accessories. The bolt carrier group’s nickel boron (Ni-B) UCT EXO coating has a very high hardness and lower friction than either chrome or nickel teflon. There is also a base layer of high-phosphorous electroless nickel that ensures the extreme corrosion protection that is absent from other Nickel Boron carriers that use a single, thinner layer. A special green o-ring that is tested to not bind even at -40 degrees F is standard. Finally, a properly-staked carrier-key with Permatex® gasket-seal compound ensures no gas leakage.
