Winchester Model 75 Sporting Rifle

Lot # 2 (Sale Order: 2 of 1043)

serial #79888, 22 LR, 24" round barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this grooved receiver rifle retain 98% plus strong original blue finish overall. The checkered walnut pistolgrip stock rates excellent with strong checkering, 95% original finish and just a few light scratches in the finish mostly on right side of butt; these could be touched up and made to be much less apparent. The rifle is sighted with a hooded ramp mounted front sight, a slot in the rear seat and what appears to be a factory installed Lyman 57ES receiver sight. The receiver sight holes have finish in them and the notch is perfect with matching finish. This is a lovely little rifle. (16520-4118) {C&R} [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection]

Winchester Model 71 Deluxe Rifle

Lot # 5 (Sale Order: 5 of 1043)

serial #20457, 348 WCF, 24" round barrel with a bright excellent bore. This short tang deluxe rifle is in superb condition showing little if any signs of use. The barrel and magazine retain 98% original blue with what little loss there is being toward the muzzle. The action of this rifle retains 99% strong original blue finish with only loss being a 1/16" circular spot where some type of contaminant removed the finish on the loading gate cover. The checkered pistolgrip walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent plus with virtually all of their original finish and with strong crisp checkering. The rifle features a hooded ramp front sight, blank in rear slot and a Lyman riding bolt peep sight. With a tiny touchup to the one spot of finish loss, this rifle would be almost perfect. U.S. Marked Colt Woodsman Match Target Semi-Auto ?Pistol

Lot # 6 (Sale Order: 6 of 1043)

serial #MT13743, 22 LR, 6 5/8” barrel with an excellent bore. Overall, this 1942 made pistol retains about 98% of the original blue finish. The finish is thinning on the grip frame with light silvering seen on the high edges, and scattered light scratches, minor pits and cleaned oxidation blemishes also present. This pistol was equipped with the wartime checkered plastic “Coltwood” extended base grips. They remain in excellent condition and have a circled Rampant Colt on each panel. The pistol is marked with the U.S. ordnance wheel with crossed cannons on the left front frame and Lt. Col. Guy H. Drewry’s initials on the right side of the frame. All markings remain crisp except the ordnance wheel which is incomplete at the bottom, probably from hasty stamping. A single, correctly marked magazine is included with this first series pistol. This is a fine example of a U.S. marked Match Target with some light but, honest wear and use. (86520-186) {C&R} [Richard “Stretch” Kennedy Collection]

This 1931 manufactured Ace retains about 90% plus of its original blue finish with heavy silvering present on the frontstrap and lighter silvering of the high edges and grip screws. Scattered light scratches and hand applied marks are also present. “SUI 11” has been hand stamped on the right side of the dust cover in front of the slide stop pin. The person applying the stamps was a little heavy handed as there is visible denting around the stampings. This is one of a number of Ace pistols purchased by the U.S. Government for the Infantry R.O.T.C. program at the State University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa (Colt 45 Service Pistols, Charles W. The smooth walnut grips with black Ruger Phoenix are in near excellent condition with some light dents and handling wear. This fairly rare model includes a dovetail scope mount for the barrel and a Bushnell Phantom long eye relief scope with clear optics. The back of the scope and scope mount exhibit light dings and dents with the finish removed in those areas. This is a very nice example of a Hawkeye that has seen some light but honest use. Winchester Pre ‘64 Model 70 Super Grade Rifle

Lot # 12 (Sale Order: 12 of 1043)

serial #182757, 375 H&H, 25” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain about 97% original blue, the barrel blue showing a slightly higher luster than normally seen with the raised wire-edge no longer present around the proof, the raised edge is present on the receiver proof, perhaps signifying a factory refinish of the barrel prior to installation. There are a few minor scuffs and handling marks present, chiefly on the underside of the barrel ahead of the forend. The bottom metal shows a few minor handling marks with the triggerguard bow being refinished, showing remnants of some light pinprick pitting; the floorplate appears original. The bolt body is still bright showing all its original factory jeweling, the knob has toned to pewter, the underside is properly numbered to the gun. The checkered walnut classic style stock with left-side cheekpiece rates very good plus showing an old, light refinish which has left some of the checkering slightly flat-topped; the length of pull to the Winchester hard rubber recoil pad is 13 1/4”. The original factory Lyman 6W 2-leaf rear sight is intact, the front has been replaced with a brass blade sourdough style. An excellent, very usable 375 H&H deserving to be afield for big moose or bear…. or even larger game. (6520-373) [Richard “Stretch” Kennedy Collection]

Smith & Wesson Model 1902 38 Hand Ejector Target With Stevens Pope Barrel

Lot # 13 (Sale Order: 13 of 1043)

serial #59874, 38 special, 8” Stevens Pope barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel retains about 92-95% original blue, the loss is due primarily to some light fading and some very light handling marks. The frame retains a similar amount of original blue, perhaps a bit stronger, also with near overall very light, tiny scratches and a light speckle here and there of oxidation. The hammer and trigger show excellent original case colors, the face of the trigger coarsely, very nicely, checkered. The checkered walnut pre-magna style grips with recessed Smith & Wesson medallions rate very good with overall minor handling marks and light dings, they are un-numbered. The rear sight blade has been replaced with a nice ghost-ring and the front sight blade is Paine-style Lyman with a gold bead. The gun times well and has been converted to single action only by removal of the double action sear. Really a very nice example of an extremely rare Harry Pope-barreled revolver. Smith & Wesson 44 Hand Ejector Revolver With Presentation From The Phoenix Police Department

Lot # 14 (Sale Order: 14 of 1043)

serial #41286, 44 Special, 5” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain about 98% original blue, the loss is due primarily to some muzzle wear and some very light high edge silvering with a light rotational ring. The hammer and trigger show very good color case-hardening, slightly muting. The checkered walnut pre-magna style grips with silver Smith & Wesson medallions rate about excellent, they are stamp-numbered to the gun (41268 which is clearly a factory error). The gun times and locks up perfectly. The sideplate is neatly engraved in cursive during the period of use “Curley Lefebvre/From/Phoenix Police Dept/December 25, 1932”. A 1966 newspaper obituary for Mr. (William C) Lefebvre lists him as having been State Highway Engineer, City Engineer, City Manager, Chief of Police and Postmaster of Phoenix. A very fine revolver with an interesting presentation. (36520-774) [Richard “Stretch” Kennedy Collection] {C&R}

Wonderful Three Caliber Austrian Bock-Drilling By Franz Sodia Of Ferlach

Lot # 15 (Sale Order: 15 of 1043)

serial #24270, 16 ga. x 6.5x57R x 22 CF (possibly 5.6x50R), 26" Bohler Rasant barrels all with bright excellent bores, the shotgun barrel choked full. The barrels retain all of their lovely maker blacking and have an integral full-length rib which is maker marked "Franz Sodia Ferlach". The barrels have dual under bites as well as a Greener style crossbolt and are configured with the 16 ga. barrel on top, 6.5x57 barrel on the bottom and the 22 caliber barrel mounted on the right side of the barrels. The scalloped boxlock frame is coin finished and shows the lovely quality engraving Sodia is known for, the right side showing a leaping rehbock with standing cow amidst a woodland scene while the left side shows a bellowing bull elk with a doe standing nearby, also against a woodland backdrop. There is nice floral embellishment at the hinge pin with geometric scroll along the belly of the frame, which is maker marked; the long tang blued triggerguard shows some nice scroll engraving as well. The classic style English walnut stock rates excellent with only a handful of very minor handling dings from light use and some light varnish loss at the right side near the butt. The stock features a checkered capped pistolgrip and rounded shadowline left-sided cheekpiece and has a nice cartridge trap along the toeline which is also coin finished and shows some filigree borderline engraving, nice scroll and a game scene vignette of a buck chamois. The splinter style forend rates about excellent as well, showing perhaps a few more minor dings, it is checkered in a wrap-around pattern near overall. The gun features a top tang-mounted barrel selector and Greener style pivoting safety; the right front trigger being a single-set and operating both rifle barrels, while the left trigger fires the shotgun barrel; The barrel rib has a single brass bead front sight, single blade standing rear sight and maker-installed quick-release bases. A top-notch combination gun particularly suited for deer-sized animals and even wild boar, with the versatility of a right-side-mounted varmint barrel, proofed in 1982. Custom Remington Model 1901 Target Rolling Block Pistol

Lot # 16 (Sale Order: 16 of 1043)

serial #3475, .44 RF, 10 1/8” round barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel retains about 95% maker-applied rust blue. The frame shows about 95% original maker-applied color case-hardening, the Remington frame markings have been removed, no doubt at the time of the customizing. The hammer and breechblock show nice dark blue, the breechblock actually with the higher thumb piece, model 1887-style, rather than the sharply canted 1901-style thumb piece. The custom walnut stocks rate very good plus to excellent with much original varnish and only minor dings and handling marks from the years. The pistolgrip itself near fully checkered showing a scalloped lower edge and some minor flattening of the points. The Schnabel-tipped forend shows 3 nicely checkered panels, all the work is extremely well executed. The hammer has been lightened by the addition of a number of drilled holes and a very graceful re-contouring ahead of the spur which in addition to lightening the hammer, further gives it very pleasing lines. The trigger is coarsely checkered, likely from the factory, and there has been a nice over-travel stop installed in the triggerguard to its rear. Each of the frame screws and the forend screw have all been lightly engraved and both front and back straps are finely stippled. What is likely the original rear sight is in place, it has a slightly higher square notch blade, the barrel has a raised sight base which currently holds a dovetailed Patridge style 3/32” wide blade. The pistol has a very nice trigger, there is no extractor present. Really a lovely Remington target pistol, nicely customized during the period of use. "The Sure Defender" Percussion Knuckle / Knife Pistol

Lot # 22 (Sale Order: 22 of 1043)

serial #150, .31 caliber, 2 1/2" barrel with a lightly oxidized smoothbore. This pistol is similar to the Apache knuckle pistols but is a single shot rather than a revolver and is in percussion rather than pinfire. The pistol is of very nice quality featuring a four ring knuckle grip and a folding Kriss blade. The mechanism is very simple with the under-mounted hammer being on the end of a spring which is affixed beneath the muzzle; the hammer catches directly on the front of the trigger when cocked. The top of the brass frame is beautifully engraved "THE SURE / (starburst) / DEFENDER". The blade swivels or rotates on a stud and has a spring loaded plunger which locks the blade in the closed or open position. Unlike other observed examples, this pistol has concentric rings on either side of the hammer instead of checkering and the marking is beautifully engraved and not stamped. The condition is very nice with the blade retaining 90% original fire blue finish and the barrel retaining about 40% flaking original blue with the areas of loss bearing a pleasing smooth gray patina. There is a delicate front sight in place with no rear sighting device. The brass surfaces all bear a mellow patina. Little is known about these interesting and peculiar pieces, some experts have stated that these are fantasy guns made during the 20th century. This example shows nice quality and age.
