ROCK ISLAND 1903 A2 BOLT ACTION SUB-CALIBER DEVICE

. Cal. 30-06. S# 290124. Bbl 24" Sedgley (circle s) "5 44" date bbl. with brass adapter for use as sub-caliber trainer. The 1903 A2 was used as a sub-caliber device in large caliber training such as anti-tank weapons due to the cost of training with the actual large caliber artillery rounds and the ease of being able to train at any military small arms range. Approx. 1000 of these rifles had the stocks and sights removed, as well as the trigger staked in place. The rifle was then fitted into an adapter to fit into a cannon bbl. The bbl of this barreled action has been fitted with a brass adapter that would fit it to the device that attaches to the cannon. The cannon attachment is not present. Trigger is staked in place. A2 stamp was added to the factory receiver marking. Remington swept bolt. Very rare 1903 variation. CONDITION: good metal finish with light wear. Very good bore. OUTSTANDING RARE GRB 39 GRENADE LAUNCHER RIFLE.

Lot # 1011A (Sale Order: 12 of 904)

Cal. 7.92mm Patronen x 318. S# 5792. Bbl. 30". Outstanding example of the Granatebusche 39 (GrB 39) . This model was developed from the earlier PzB anti-tank rifle, originally designed for a high velocity armor piercing tracer rd. Advances in thicknesses & metallurgy in late 1930's armor plate technology rendered most anti-tank rifles obsolete; these rifles were developed or converted into grenade launchers. This particular specimen was purposely built as a grenade launcher with a rifled grenade launcher cup. Marked with both Steyr (bnz) & Gustloff (dfb) proofs. The main parts of this rifle are matching. The breech block is electro penciled "3143" & bipod "612". The bipod also marked PzB 39 which has longer legs than the standard MG 34 bipod legs. Lower handgrip assembly although made by Steyr, is S# 3143. There are many Nazi proof marks on this rifle both Steyr, WaA 623 & Gustloff eagle over 4. Front & rear sights match receiver S#. Carrying handle has eagle over 882 mark. This weapon includes what appears to be an original cotton web sling which had parted at one time then repaired. Grenade launcher cup is marked GrB39 with eagle proof mark & WaA 140. CONDITION: overall appearance & finish is extremely fine with most loss of finish on the receiver, thinning on high points. Left side of receiver shows some light corrosion. Shoulder stock assembly retains its original black leather cover near the hinged shoulder pads. Shoulder pads are in fine original condition with green painted leather, becoming hard with some brassing on the edges, but still serviceable. Bore is extremely fine. (14-7164/JWK).
