Dr. Chase's book of 800 recipes for health remedies, drinks, livestock cures, etc. was a bargain and a mainstay in households across the continent."

Dr Leffingwell attempts a mediating position in the vivesection debate, and discusses experiments on humans as well as on animals. Comes with letter attached to inside cover from Albert Leffingwell's wife Alice to someone thanking him for a letter.

A Summer Story, Sheridan's Ride and Other Poems by Thomas Buchanan Read, Published by J. B. Lippincott Company, Philadelphia, PA (1865). Hardcover in good condition with chipped upper spine. The stain you see on the page in the photo is from a pressed flower long gone. pp.154. Brown cloth with gilt lettering and decoration on the spine, top edge gilt. Read was better known for his portrait-painting than his versifying (among his sitters were Longfellow, William Henry Harrison, Browning and Thackeray); however, during the Civil War he toured the country with the tragedian James Edward Murdoch -- Read writing patriotic poetry and Murdoch reading it onstage, with the proceeds going toward the care of Union wounded.
