Mary Boykin Chesnut was a South Carolina author noted for a book published as her Civil War diary, a "vivid picture of a society in the throes of its life-and-death struggle."[1] She described the war from within her upper-class circles of Southern planter society, but encompassed all classes in her book.

London, New York, F.T. Neely [1898], xvi, [5]-221 p. 20 cm. Spanish-American War, good condition, memories of Civil War General. Oliver Otis Howard was a career United States Army officer and a Union general in the American Civil War. As a brigade commander in the Army of the Potomac, Howard lost his right arm while leading his men against Confederate forces at Fair Oaks in June 1862, an action which later earned him the Medal of Honor. Good with cracked hinge, some overall wear. Great book.
