Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 685)

New York Militia Hat Insignia Ca. 1820

6" x 5", gold stencil painted eagle and half globe early New York insignia on a dark crimson velvet oval.  Appears to have had a device attached below the eagle at one time, now lacking.  Has the remnants of stitching around the edge, probably once worn on the front of a top hat.  Good example of early enrolled militia insignia.

Condition: Painted finish cracked with minor loss around the eagles neck and top of the left wing; some wear on the velvet at the top of the oval.
