Acadian Maid Doll And Two Corn Husk Dolls Lot #354 (Sale Order 103 of 193) The Acadian Maid Doll came from The Doll House, 640 Royal Street, New Orleans 16, Louisiana. Her name is Evangeline, and she is the heroine of Longfellow's beautiful poem. She lived in Grand Pre Nova Scotia, at the time of the expulsion of the Acadians. The Evangeline land is about 80 miles West of New Orleans. The Teche country, on the Old Spanish Trail is the ""Forest Primeval"" to which the exiled French fled. The name ""Acadian"" has been slurred and misspelled until it sounds, and actually is spelled ""Cajun"". The Acadians settled in St. Martinsville, LA, in 1755. Evangeline and her sweetheart, Gabriel, were separated, and when they finally found each other again, Gabriel was dying. Evangeline is buried in the old Church yard in St. Martinsville. She is one of the most romantic characters in the early colonial history of Nova Scotia and Louisiana. The doll is cloth and thread, a mere 3 inches. She has her crucifix and bible with her. Her original pamphlet is included. The Vintage Corn Husk dolls are in excellent condition. Six and 4.5 inches. Nice Lot here folks.
