Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1870. Value Points: the rare and dainty lady with fancily-sculpted hair is wearing her original costume, and was presented in The Englishwoman's Magazine of that time as an exclusive design named "The Work-Table Companion", the costume decorated with a pin-cushion coiffe, pockets with packets of needles, silk reticule enclosing a thimble, and sash pocket with scissors. The wooden two-story dollhouse has dimensional scored finish to simulate stone foundation and stone brick siding, The window and door frames are of sturdy pressed card stock with original cream finish; the front door is dark wood with natural finish, and the porch columns and balusters as well as wide front steps are of wood. The porch roof, which extends across the entire front is pressed card stock to simulate shingles and matching the upper roof shingles. There are eight interior rooms, a fancy wooden staircase to the second floor, and the walls are covered with lithographed wall paper and decorations that vary from room to room. Thirteen double pane windows have the original lace curtains, as does the front door window and the tiny gable window. The original Schoenhut label is on the side. Excellent condition, all original finishes, some small bends at roof corners, corner of porch roof worn. A very rare luxury size with rare to find interior finishes and curtains. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Gladdie Copyright by Helen W. Jensen Germany. Comments: the model appeared in the Borgfeldt catalog of 1929 under the tradename of Gladdie; it was produced in both earthenware and bisque. Helen Webster Jensen, born in Chicago in 1896 studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, and in 1928 moved to Santa Monica, California with her husband where the two pursued a career in portrait bust sculpting; many of their commissioned works exist in the Los Angeles area and she is cited in Edan Hughes book, Artists in California, 1786-1940. She died in Seattle in 1990, and it is likely that Gladdie was the only doll model she sculpted, said to be a portrait of her own daughter. Value Points: wonderfully-preserved example of the distinctive doll, beautiful complexion, original organdy peach costume and bonnet.

Condition: near mint. Marks: Alexander (head and torso) "Ballerina" Alexander (cloth tag on costume). Comments: Madame Alexander, the model is known as "Karen Ballerina", and was offered in the 1946 catalog of that firm. Value Points: exceptional pristine condition of the beautiful doll, with flawless complexion and coiffure, very fresh original tulle ballerina costume with gold rick-rack trim, matching petticoat and panties, ballet slippers, black velvet choker ribbon and wrist ties.

8" (20 cm.) - 10'. Each has pressed cloth face with exaggerated features depicting the sense of the character, with oil-painted features that further enhance that character, mohair wigs, felt body with wire armature that is posed in exaggerated manners, and each with original costume and whimsical accessories, with original Roldan paper labels. Excellent condition with rich vibrant colors perfectly retained. Included are woman with wooden baby cart and two babies; woman walking in a windstorm with coat blown up; woman at the beach, lad with pig and chick, peddler with goods, girl with roller skates having her arm in a sling, man with nightcap, candlestick and his dog, and a judge with gavel. The Roldan caricature dolls were made in Spain in the mid-1900s, and imported to the US by Rosenfeld Imports.
