Indianapolis 500 First Race Worn Uniform, Attr. Lot #1486 (Sale Order 543 of 684) Attributed to Lewis Strang. The Case Lettered Uniform shows all the signs of wear and tear you would expect from a worn racing coverall. Label in uniform is from H. L. Sanders the Nation's most prosperous uniform maker. the case lettering has a pink tinge probably from washing with a red dyed item, quite possibly one of the two race caps that accompanies the uniform. The uniform is accompanied by it's original buttons with one replaced and two racing hats of the period.another photo of Strang in the Savannah Race of the same year shows him wearing a cap that again almost matches the one we have in hand with similar holes and flaws. To say that this is a rare find would be an understatement. A highquality piece that deserves a place in the Indianapolis Museum of Racing.
