16" (41 cm.) All stockinette doll with stitch-shaped face, painted features, applied thread brows, moustache and hair. Very good condition. The doll is wearing its original costume of tweed pants, vest, plaid shirt, jacket, shoes, and red cap with black leather brim and original label "Wiener Dienstmann", carrying little package of letters. A Dienstmann was a term traditionally applied to a hired man who performed odd jobs such as courier which this chap appears to do. Circa 1930.

Solid domed paper mache swivel head on paper mache shoulder plate, black enamel eyes which open and close from wire lever at back torso, painted curly tendrils of hair, closed mouth, twill torso with bellows "mama" crier, twill upper arms and legs, paper mache lower torso, hands and feet, wooden lower arms and legs, original gown and bonnet included. The loosely-jointed limb baby was designed to simulate an infant child, and was inspired by the Japanese play doll first shown in Europe at the 1855 International Exposition in London; examples with the wire lever eyes are very rare. Excellent original condition overall. Germany, circa 1855.

11" (28 cm.) -16". Each is all cloth with painted or lithographed facial features, painted or yarn hair, and original costumes. The "Official Goodie Cole Doll" has her original paper label indicating that she was produced in 1938 for the 300th anniversary of the Hampton Beach, New Hampshire town; she had been accused and convicted of witchcraft in 1656, and in 1938, in connection with the celebration was restored to citizenship by a meeting of that town hall. The five dolls are in very good to excellent condition, the largest with few light spots. American, 1910-1940.

Amber tinted bisque socket head, brown glass eyes, painted features, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, black mohair wig, amber tinted composition body jointed at shoulders and hips, painted shoes and socks, wearing beautiful embroidered silk costume. Marks: 3/0 Simon & Halbig 1129. Generally excellent. Circa 1900, very beautiful expression and bisque for the rare tiny size.

23" (58 cm.) Carved wooden socket head with well-defined features, all wooden body with chip-carved definition of musculature, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, carved definition of hands with distinctive fingers and toes. The doll is structurally excellent except chip on right hip, poor old repainting of face, and touch-up on hands and feet, sold as is. Continental, late 18th century, fine rare larger wooden articulated doll well worthy of restoration.

All cloth doll with pressed and painted facial features, brown side-glancing eyes, closed mouth, muslin body with stitch-jointing at shoulders and hips. Very good condition, light dustiness. Marks: David Copperfield Madame Alexander New York (cloth label). Circa 1930, the hard-to-find early doll wears his original costume of plaids pants, flowered shirt, black felt jacket, socks, shoes, bow tie, and felt hat.

Bisque head with blue glass eyes, painted features, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, blonde mohair wig, wooden block torso with internal bellows, wire upper arms and legs, wooden lower arms and legs, painted shoes, wearing original muslin jester costume and holding cymbals in its hands. When the stomach bellows is squeezed, the jester claps his hands together and his eyes blink open and closed. Marks: 1894 2. Generally excellent. Sonneberg, for the French market, circa 1895.

Hard composition socket head with painted brown eyes and facial features, closed mouth with downcast expression, blonde mohair wig with ringlet curls, felt body with jointing at shoulders and hips, wearing plaid cotton film dress with label "Shirley Temple Original Fashions". The doll is marked KB9 in very small lettering. Excellent condition. Maker unknown, late 1900s.

Bisque socket head with lovely heart-shaped face, painted brown tiny eyes, painted facial features, closed mouth with solemn expression, brunette human hair, all-bisque body with jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and knees, and wearing original costume. With original paper label from Lynne and Michael Roche indicating "Gigi, 1998 Collectors Club doll 40/100 '99". Excellent condition. The doll was made in an edition of only 100 dolls.
