1940 New Hudson Autocycle Lot #372 (Sale Order 342 of 654) New Hudson of Birmingham was one of the pioneer motorcycle manufactures, their first machine being produced in 1903. Production of fine bikes continued until 1932, when the company began producing Girling brake parts and other car components for the motor trade. However, in 1939, using their bike producing skills and machinery, an Autocycle was designed and put into production for 1940, but the war intervened, and by 1943 BSA had purchased the company, after only a few had been produced. After the war, production continued, but the design had been changed; the bikes were heavier and the excellent Villiers 'Junior De Luxe' two stroke single speed engine was no longer available, though the new machines were still marketed as New Hudsons. So this is a rare survivor of the original design, with the uncowled engine, bicycle brakes and large fuel tank, with direct electric lighting and an effective centre stand. The machines were able to deliver 150 miles to a gallon of mixture, and cost just over £20 for a high quality, simple and easy to maintain bike. They would undoubtedly have had a great future had production continued, and post war models, even at nearly £50, sold well. This very original Autocycle was first registered in Radnorshire on 5 August 1940, (and has a very attractive period registration number) and was in use locally until 1960. Much later it was rebuilt and examined for dating by the VMCC in 1998, since when it was little used before being laid up in 2000. Some easy renovation, hopefully without incurring significant expense will result in a charming and rare period machine. The V5c has been lost, but should be obtainable through the DVLA.

C1930 BRENNABOR Autocycle Lot #373 (Sale Order 343 of 654) The German Company Brennabor was set up in 1871 by three brothers named Adolf, Carl and Hermann Reichstein. The brothers had already been producing basket-work child buggies and children's two-wheelers in 1870, and in 1881 had moved into the booming mainstream bicycle business. From 1892 the bicycles were branded with the Brennabor name. By the 1930s the company had grown to become Europe's largest producer of infant buggies and was also a leading bicycle producer. Little is Known about the history of this example, which is fitted with a small capacity engine of 42 mm bore, 54 mm stroke (75 cc), believed to be by Fichtel & Sachs. The frame is in good order, fitted with its original sprung saddle and handlebars. The cycle now requires some recommissioning, and new chains, chain-guard, brakes etc. are needed. This Autocycle represents an ideal opportunity for straight forward restoration of an interesting and powerful machine.

C195 Jawa Motorcycle Lot #374 (Sale Order 344 of 654) JAWA motorcycles were founded in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1929 by František Janecek, who bought the motorcycle division of Wanderer. The name JAWA was established by combining the first letters of Janecek and Wanderer. In the 1950s, JAWA was one of the top motorcycle manufacturers and was exported into over 120 countries. After 1990, there was a significant loss of production. A successor company was formed in 1997 and continued the name as JAWA Moto. The JAWA offered here has been in the same family ownership since the mid 1950s and was used to travel to and from work, it made the journey from Wormbridge to Hereford and back daily, some 20 miles. When a James motorcycle was purchased (see next Lot) the JAWA became redundant and spent much of the time at the back of the garage, then later being dismantled. The JAWA has been loosely reassembled and has what is believed to be a 350 cc engine. The current vendor hopes to find the paperwork in time for the sale.

1956 James Motorcycle Lot #375 (Sale Order 345 of 654) The James Cycle Co Ltd. Birmingham, were prolific bicycle and motorcycle manufacturers from 1897 to 1966. Most of their light motorcycles, often with the characteristic maroon finish as here, used Villiers and, later, AMC two-stroke engines. The company was taken over by Associated Motor Cycles in 1951 and combined with Francis-Barnett in 1957. In 1966 the company became another British motorcycle industry casualty under the onslaught of Japanese imports. This is a 1959 example and has been in the same family ownership since the early 1960s. Used to travel to and from work, it made the journey from Wormbridge to Hereford and back daily, some 20 miles. When a car was purchased TVJ 999 was retired, and at sometime dismantled. The James has been loosely reassembled and has what is believed to be a 147 cc Villiers engine and is thought to be a Cadet model. The current vendor hopes to find the paperwork in time for the sale.

1978 Honda CB400-Four Lot #376 (Sale Order 346 of 654) "Built around well-established Japanese thinking, the Honda CB400-four offers a plain bearing crankshaft and single overhead cam. The small 4-cylinder is a scaled down version of the CB750 that had already been around for some seven years by the time of the 400's introduction.Worldwide over 105,000 units were produced with over 15,000 of those finding their way into the UK market between 1975 and the models replacement in 1979. With all of the attributes of a two-wheeled sewing machine this bike won the hearts of the real riders back in the late 1970s and still makes perfect sense for a variety of reasons 38 years on.

1975 MG MIDGET 1500 Lot #406 (Sale Order 347 of 654) The MG name has been synonymous with sporting cars right back to the 1920s and the Midget is no exception to this. Built between 1961 - 1980, many improvements were made over the years including increasing the engine capacity to 1500 cc, as here. The company did get some of these later ideas wrong, however, including adding large 'rubber' bumpers, to please the American market, and increasing the ride height, which made the handling difficult. This 1975 example, first registered 13th November, incorporated these design changes, until its current professional mechanic owner, made some suitable upgrades. Delightful tax exempt 1500 Midget that has been carefully de-rubber bumpered with some thoughtful detailing. It is in very good order throughout with sound bodywork and paint, a recent hood and very good interior trim. The suspension has been slightly lowered, a performance exhaust fitted and the engine is believed to have a modified camshaft. MOT is to June 2017 and fitted with four new quality tyres, this MG is ready to enjoy. It is fun to drive and performs very strongly.

1965 Volkswagen Beetle Lot #407 (Sale Order 348 of 654) When the Berlin Motor Show opened in February 1939, visitors had their first opportunity to examine the KdF-Wagen, or what we know today as the Volkswagen Beetle. It was designed by the renowned Austrian engineer Ferdinand Porsche, the contract being awarded to his company in April 1934. He was given ten months to complete, but the design was not finalised until 1938. By Spring 1939 the KdF-Wagen factory was capable of producing 150,000 cars a year, making it the largest car factory in Europe, but in September that year Germany invaded Poland and the Second World War began. The German public would have to wait until after the war to sample the pleasures of Volkswagen motoring.Throughout the production of the Beetle and as demand to increase, the design continued to evolve. An improved top speed and synchromesh on bottom gear was introduced and in 1965 the windscreen size was increased by 19 per cent, while the side windows deepened and slimmer window pillars used. KAR 566C is one of these 1965 examples, first registered on the 10th June that year. Little is known of its early history, but it has now been in the same family ownership since 1991. When first acquired the VW underwent a complete nut and bolt restoration, but was then little used and has spent most of its time since in dry store. Recently gently recommissioned, the 1192 cc air cooled engine has been fitted with an electric fuel pump and is running extremely well. The chassis is very sound, as is the front body section, two usual problem areas, and the car is now ready to be driven and enjoyed by a new owner. The Volkswagen Beetle has become the most popular car ever made, the twenty millionth being built in 1981 and here is a very fine example of the marque from the mid 1960s. A current V5c and small history file accompany the Lot. A video of the car can be found on our Facebook page.

1955 Ford Thames Van Lot #409 (Sale Order 350 of 654) The Fordson E83W, also later sold under the Thames brand, is a 10 cwt light commercial vehicle that was built by Ford at the Dagenham assembly plant between 1938 and 1957. The E83W was aimed at the small haulage, trade and merchant market, sectors in which it sold well. Many specialist variations such as mobile canteens, ice cream vans and fire pumps were built on the E83W chassis, powered by the 1172 cc Ford 10 hp side-valve engine, with a 3-speed gearbox. Here is a later Thames example, with van style coachwork, first registered 11th September 1955. In the current owners hands since 2009, the van has been completely rewired, with new brake linings, handbrake cable and reconditioned radiator fitted. The headlights have the advantage of an LED conversion, making the Ford easily drivable at night, and comes with two spare wheels. A V5c, large history file, lubrication chart and instruction book accompany the vehicle. A great opportunity to acquire a ready to go light commercial vehicle, which can be used for either business or pleasure. A video of the Ford Thames can be found on our Facebook page.

1952 Ford Prefect Lot #410 (Sale Order 351 of 654) The Ford Prefect was first introduced in October 1938, built in Dagenham, Essex, and designed specifically for the British economy as an upmarket version of the Ford Popular and Ford Anglia. Post war, the Prefect design changed little until updated in 1952. The headlamps moved into the wings and trafficators were fitted. Only four-door saloons were available, the two-door sector being left to the Anglia, but some were made for export. The brakes remained mechanically operated using the Girling rod system and the chassis still had a transverse leaf springs front and semi elliptics at the rear. The car was updated again in 1953, with much more 'modern' styling, and remained in production until 1961. KRK 376 is a Model 493A, first registered on 20th October 1952, 64 years ago to the date of this auction. Owned by the current vendor since 1999, much work has been carried out, now making this a very fine example of the marque. Work includes interior, new front wings, brakes, king pins, reconditioned steering box, new ball joints etc. A heater was fitted, to make the car usable all year round and a wonderful respray of the bodywork, with red coach line enhancing its period charm. The Ford has had an engine replacement, with just 60,000 recorded since this was done. An excellent classic car, running very well and ready for use. Coming to the sale with a large history file, including old MoT certificates, tax discs, original green log book, instruction books etc. A video of the car can be found on our Facebook page.

1936 Standard Light 12 Saloon Lot #411 (Sale Order 352 of 654) "The Standard Motor Company Limited was founded in Coventry in 1903 by Reginald Walter Maudslay and enjoyed much success until the outbreak of the First World War. Their attention then turned to aircraft production, and about 1000 aircraft were produced during this time. Motor car production resumed in 1919 and by 1924 the company had a share of the market comparable to Austin, making more than 10,000 cars that year. Through the 1930s, fortunes improved with new models, the Standard Nine and Ten, which addressed the low to mid range market and at the 1935 Motor Show the Flying Standards were introduced along side the existing range of Nine, Twelve, Sixteen, and Twenty cars. CXD 583 is a Light 12 hp saloon and one of the last of this model produced before the introduction of the Flying Twelve later that year. Built using the 10 hp chassis and body, with a 12 hp 1608 cc engine, and known as an A1 12S Model. Purchased by the present owner in May 2006, much work has been carried out, including an engine rebuild with machined cylinder head, new valves and guides etc. The clutch has also been rebuilt with new pressure and clutch plates, and the leaf springs, shock absorbers and steering have received attention during the current ownership. The Standard has been in regular use, between these necessary refurbishments, in the hands of its current engineer owner and is now only being offered for sale due to a house move and failing health. A V5c as well as an original instruction book and owners handbook and a raft of other related paperwork comes with the car.

1928 Austin Seven Chummy Lot #412 (Sale Order 353 of 654) Herbert Austin's Chummy model changed motoring in Britain, and is probably the best known of all the Models the company produced. Austin was keen to enter the mass-market, and took much inspiration from, among others, Henry Ford. He wanted to produce a small, affordable motor car that would be available to all. The Chummy certainly fulfilled this dream. This is an original Chummy from the last batch of magneto engined cars, when they were still built with scuttle mounted headlamps, short radiators and the very attractive early pattern wings. It was acquired in the early 1970s by an engineer enthusiast and received a complete nut and bolt rebuild. With no expense spared, the front and rear seats were retrimmed in soft black leather, a new hood and sidescreens made, the chassis, axles, gearbox and engine all rebuilt and the bodywork finished in a wonderful period dark blue. In 1980 PK 3289 won outright the 750 MC concours event at Beaulieu. The Austin was then sold to the current vendor in 2008, having only covered some 4,500 miles since its complete overhaul. Eight years and only 1500 miles later, the Chummy is being offered for sale once more. Still in exceptional condition, but now with a patina that only time can give, the car is ready to be used and enjoyed immediately. A V5c and history file accompany the car. A video is available on our Facebook page. PK 3289 must be one of the best Austin Seven Chummies on the market today.
