1943 PHILIPPINES BOHOL EMERGENCY CERTIFICATE - ISSUED BY EXILED GOVERNMENT Lot #17 (Sale Order 17 of 434) On May 22, 1942, Japanese occupation forces established garrisons at Tagbilaran, the capital and Guindulman where they operated manganese mines. On January 9, 1943, resistance officers and provincial officials who have not surrendered established a "free" government with Conrado D. Marapao as Governor. Just prior to the surrender, Philippines President Manuel Quezon had authorized Bohol to issue 150,000 pesos in emergency currency. This authority was the basis for printing currency to finance the free government and the resistance force. In June 1943, radio contact was established with President Quezon who authorized an additional 200,000 pesos, followed by an additional 1,000,000 pesos in September. The printing took place at the Municipality of Carmen. Notes were printed in black on manila paper of varying thickness. COMPLETE SET OF STATE QUARTERS INCLUDING PROOFS & SILVERS - 1999 - 2008 - 192 COINS TOTAL Lot #129 (Sale Order 129 of 434) Proxibid only allows us to post 6 photos, or we would have posted more. This is a HUGE set in two nice Dansco albums. The albums alone cost over $50. Each album has five pages and holds 100 coins. This is a complete set minus the uncirculated P & D quarters for New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii (total of 8 coins). Those had not been released before the owner decided to sell the set. Note that this set does have the proofs for these final four states. A beautiful set that was put together with love and care.

COMPLETE SET OF WASHINGTON QUARTERS - 1932 to 1998 INCLUDING PROOFS - 186 COINS TOTAL Lot #130 (Sale Order 130 of 434) We have seen some Washington quarter sets before, but this is the nicest one we have handled. Obviously put together with great care and attention, each coin is a wonderful example for its year and mintmark. The key 1932-D is an XF with an old light cleaning, lightly toned. The 1932-S is a brilliant AU with a light cleaning. The collection through the mid-1940's is made up of attractive high-grade AU's through very choice uncs. One you get to about 1946, most all are uncirculated (or proof) and are very nice looking examples. 90 of the coins are silver (total of 16.3 troy ounces of pure silver), not to mention the several proofs composed of 40% silver. The set is complete from 1932 through the 1998-S Silver Proof. This set would be difficult and time-consuming to replicate. Don't miss this one ! (Note that Proxibid only allows us to load 6 photos. We would have provided many more if we could.)

1881-CC MORGAN DOLLAR - FITZGERALD CASINO COLLECTION - NGC MS62 Lot #224 (Sale Order 224 of 434) A scarce date with only 296,000 minted due to the mint's limited operation in 1881. Graded MS62 by NGC, with special notation given on the slab for the Fitzgerald Collection (also known as the 'Fitzgerald Hoard'). It was once owned by Lincoln Fitzgerald, a mobster and gambling pioneer who arrived in Reno in the mid-1940s and opened the Nevada Club. He started out in Detroit, but left after pleading guilty to conspiracy to maintain and operate a gambling resort. In the late 1950s, Fitzgerald bought the Biltmore at North Lake Tahoe and turned it into the Nevada Lodge. In the 1970s, he opened Fitzgerald’s Hotel Casino in downtown Reno. Fitzgerald was shot and almost killed in 1949 when a gunman ambushed him in his garage, shooting him with a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun. The assailant was never found. Although he eventually recovered from the attack, Fitzgerald became more and more reclusive, seldom venturing from his home or his casino.
Fitzgerald died in 1981 at age 88.

1890-CC MORGAN DOLLAR - VAM 4 "TAIL BAR" TOP 100 VARIETY - KEY DATE Lot #277 (Sale Order 277 of 434) We don't come across these very often, so take advantage of the opportunity. This is the very desirable VAM 4 "Tailbar" variety caused by a die gouge at the base of the eagle's tail feathers. The 90-CC is a desirable date to begin with, and this is icing on the cake. Cleaned long ago and has mostly retoned. Looks fine.

1893 MORGAN DOLLAR - XF - VAM 2 DOUBLED DATE Lot #289 (Sale Order 289 of 434) One of the keys, with a tiny mintage of 378,000. This is a nice example and is a VAM 2 evidenced by the doubling at the top of the 3 in the date. Attractive coin.
1893-O MORGAN DOLLAR - LOW MINTAGE KEY DATE - VF Lot #290 (Sale Order 290 of 434) Even scarcer than the 1893 is the 1893-O, with only 300,000 minted. A nice very fine example with a medium grey tone.

1894-S MORGAN DOLLAR - KEY DATE - UNCIRCULATED? Lot #292 (Sale Order 292 of 434) Another very tough date that gets expensive in a hurry. There are lots of bag & reeding marks, but it is very hard to discern wear. We're going to call it near-uncirculated due to some light friction on the eyebrow, but a grading firm might market grade it as uncirculated. Certainly worth a personal inspection.

1896-O MORGAN DOLLAR - BETTER DATE - VERY NICE NEAR-UNCIRCULATED Lot #295 (Sale Order 295 of 434) A very nice coin with some underlying luster. Very very nearly uncirculated. |
1896-S MORGAN DOLLAR - ANACS VF35 - SCARCE DATE Lot #296 (Sale Order 296 of 434) Tough date that gets expensive quickly. Submitted to ANACS on behalf of our consignor, we expected this to come back XF, but ANACS decided to call it a VF35. It's certainly closer to XF than a VF.

These coins are very beautiful and choice, too, but we simply did not have the time to sell each one individually. This lot consists of three choice uncirculated dollars, two of which are from that 1882-S roll. The coin not original to the roll is a brilliant unc that grades MS62 with some hairlines from a light wiping. The other two coins from the original roll and are brilliant and lustrous and grade MS63.

2007 ABIGAIL ADAMS $10 GOLD PIECE - 1/2 TROY OUNCE - NGC MS69 Lot #361 (Sale Order 361 of 434) Beautiful coin that contains exactly one-half ounce of pure 24 karat gold. Graded MS69 by NGC. Mintage was limited to 40,000 between mint state and proof coins, and we know that proofs typically outsell the mint state coins by a long margin. Assuming a mintage of 10k to 15k, far fewer exist as many people sold them for scrap to be melted when gold prices spiked. Probably a good investment once actual mintage figures are released.

Composed of one-half ounce of pure 24 karat gold, this example was graded MS69 by NGC.

SIXTEEN (16) TROY OUNCE SILVER BAR - $1000 LARGE CURRENCY REPLICA - VERY ORNATE - IN BOX Lot #434 (Sale Order 433 of 434) This is the last lot in the auction and it's an interesting one. Produced by the Washington Mint, this is a .999 pure silver replica of an 1891 $1000 silver certificate. They took some liberty, for example, replacing William Marcy with George Washington, but it's a fairly accurate representation. A very ornate, highly detailed, and extremely beautiful piece. Comes with a certificate of authenticity that attests to its .999 fineness. This is not simply a one-troy pound piece, as that would only be 12 troy ounces. It is actually a SIXTEEN (16) TROY OUNCE MONSTER. Something you don't see very often, so take advantage of the opportunity.
