When twirled, music plays. The marotte was a luxury party object prepared for the French market, circa 1890, and has wonderful antique silk and lace costume. Excellent condition.

16" Rare Sonneberg Bisque Doll with Musical Clapping Bellows and Original Silk Costume $800/1000 Lot #51 (Sale Order 51 of 60) 16" (41 cm.) Bisque head with flanged neck, brown glass inset eyes, painted lashes, brush-stroked and feathered brows, open mouth, row of tiny teeth, blonde mohair wig, wooden frame torso containing music box and bellows, composition lower arms and legs, original silk costume. Sonneberg, circa 1890, when the bellows is squeezed, a merry tune is heard while the doll briskly claps her hands. Generally excellent. The charming musical toy is well-preserved and functions well.

The porcelain trinket box sculpted to appear as a wicker double-handled basket has a removable lid with figural design depicting a blonde haired child seated in the basket, holding a toy horn in one hand and a toy Polichinelle in the other. American felt character dolls, Arthur and Lillian, by R. John Wright in original box. $600/900 Lot #55 (Sale Order 55 of 60) 18" and 20". Each is of pressed felt with painted facial features, the boy with chubbier face and blonde mohair wig, the girl with more slender older face and auburn mohair wig, painted brows, eyes, jointed arms and legs. The girl wears blue cotton sailor dress, petticoat, pantalets, white stockings, black strap shoes, and carries a jump rope. The boy wears white middy shirt and sailor cap, green felt shorts, red woolen stockings, white shoes and carries a toy boat. Each has brass RJW button and paper label indicating "Arthur (or Lillian) R. John Wright #49/500". They are contained together in double labeled box. The dolls were an exclusive edition for The Toy Shoppe, The Enchanted Doll, and Hobby Center Toys. The set was produced in 1987-89 in a number edition of 500.
