All-carved wooden doll with socket head, jointing at shoulders and hips, natural complexion of grained wood, carved definition of intaglio blue eyes, white eye dots, closed mouth, brunette mohair wig, wearing original costume. Along with darker complexioned baby with carved wooden head and painted hair, weighted cloth body. Each doll is wearing its original costume. Excellent condition. Both by Elisabeth Pongratz, late 1900s.

19" Delightful Italian Felt Glass-Eyed Googly by Lenci in Scottish Costume. $1800/2300

19" (48 cm.) Felt swivel head with blue glass flirty googly eyes, painted brown curly upper lashes, arched short brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth in wide O-shaped expression, blonde mohair wig captured in snood at the nape, jointing at shoulders and hip. Excellent condition. Lenci, the glass-eyed version of the googly model was introduced by the firm in 1936, the rare-to-find model is beautifully-preserved, wearing her original very fresh Scottish-themed costume comprising fitted brown long jacket, sienna felt skirt with criss-cross felt applique to create an impression of "plaid", matching reticule, black feathered tam, and ruffled pantalets.

Lenci, the doll, model 112, appeared in Lenci's first advertisement of 1920, and, wonderfully-preserved, is wearing original grass skirt, glass-beaded necklace which dangles a carved wooden doll, and hooped earring with carved wooden dog.
