Lt. Rex Combs 508th PIR/82nd Airborne Silver Star With Oak Leaf Citation- Movie Brochure Lot #20 (Sale Order 21 of 221) Lt. Rex Combs was from Asheville NC. These items were found in a scrapbook at a local Antique Mall. The scrapbook apparently was kept by a stateside "pen pal" as there was correspondence from many other US servicemen and other branches from overseas. The WW2 period Silver Star must have been given to the as a thank you to the pen pal as it has been post war engraved. The silver star case was not in the scrapbook but was included with other items that were in this Antique Mall find!

Rare! Late War German FallschirmjƤger Jump Smock-Scarce Maker/Breast Eagle Lot #41 (Sale Order 43 of 221) late war Tan/Water/Marsh pattern camo. Embroidered breast eagle on green triangular base applied with factory zig-zag stitching. This type breast eagle was only used by the Berlin maker that is indicated by the RBNr. stamping in the interior. Prym snaps and Bakelite Ri-Ri zippers. All the correct construction on this one! This smock does show minor combat wear which is nice to see. If you only wanted one of these rare jump smocks, this would surely be it! 100% original textbook example.

The officer has had the collar modified by adding the dark green collar that was very popular on the M36 tunics. This was a common practice. Very fine officer's quality wool body. Pink piped collar tabs and sew in shoulder boards for the rank of LT.. Hand embroidered bullion breast eagle. It shows minor exterior soiling and minor interior sweat staining. The tailor tag is named to "KALLNE" and is dated 1943. In very fine collectible condition.

Panzer Recon Engraved Short Model Dress Bayonet W/Scabbard/Frog-ABT. 4/2nd Panzer Division Lot #43a (Sale Order 47 of 221) Very nice original example. We have taken many different photos to show the crispness and detail of the engraved etching. Short model dress bayonet with spear point blade is in very fine condition. Blade is not maker marked. Checkered grips are the screw on rivets as typical of E. Pack & Sohn. The style of the etching is also typical of this maker. There is what appears to be pink felt in the slot that doesn't appear to have faded from red. A stunning example through and through! AufklƤrungsabteilung 4 was a motorized Panzer Reconnaissance assigned to the 2nd Panzer Division and was a light armored half track company.

Waffen SS M35 Double Decal Q64 Helmet With Liner/Chin Strap-Named-KIA Russia Lot #62 (Sale Order 65 of 221) Direct Veteran estate acquired Waffen SS M35 double decal helmet with chin strap/liner named. Original exterior finish with both decals at 95+%. Leather liner is supple and has the name "Heuschneider" and also has the feld post #02231E. Research indicates this Waffen SS Rottenfuhrer was KIA on the Russian front in 1942. Helmet shell is maker/size stamped Q64 and rear flange lot # is 0777. This right out of the woodwork helmet has never been in the collector market and has been added to Brian Ice's highly regarded Helmet Lot Number Reference. This example also has a dome stamp in the crown. Chin strap is also maker stamped and dated. There is a small "concussion" fracture at the crown on the exterior. One of the finest examples to come out of the woodwork in a long time!

The oval is ribbed with a cheese cloth backing which dates it to the mid 1960's. The DSC, Silver Star and Purple Heart medals all have the WW2 period sewn slot brooch ribbons. None have been detached from the mounting board. Whoever these belonged to was a highly awarded soldier!

The soldier's name isn't written anywhere that we can see but the "Rebel" flag does have the soldier's serial number ink stamp. He has written in black marker 25+ Korean War battles on the flag. The writing has faded. There is a Combat Infantry Badge and a 7th Rgt. 3rd ID sweetheart pin attached to the flag. The paper map is dated 1945. Excellent display item and researchable.

WW2 Eagle Squadron Period RAFVR/AAF Named Pilot's Grouping-Photos-Uniforms Etc..! Lot #75 (Sale Order 78 of 221) Named to Captain John Burton Sandstead. Sandstead trained as a pilot through the Polaris Flight Academy at War Eagle Field which was located in the Mojave Desert just west of Lancaster California. The Polaris Flight Academy opened on the field's grounds on July 15, 1941 and trained pilot cadets for service in the RAF and RCAF. Sandstead finished his training and joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve on April 11, 1942. There were 3 active Eagle Squadrons at this time and according to information written on one of the pages of the Squadron 18 "Yearbook" there was going to be a 4th Eagle Squadron formed. Sandstead's rank while serving with the R.A.F.V.R. is listed on his RAF discharge as Sergeant along with his RAF trade designation listed as pilot. His discharge date from the RAFD is listed as September 28, 1942, the same date as the RAF Eagle Squadrons were dissolved. Sandstead was transferred to the newly formed 8th Army Air Force and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. serving with the 347th Fighter Squadron/350th Fighter Group. There are dozens of documents in this group to include Sandstead's RAF enlistment contract, RAF temporary and official discharge papers, an 8" X 10" B&W photo signed by other cadets posing in front of the Polaris Academy at War Eagle Field, A letter of transmission stating Sandstead is being issued the RAF Service Medallion (Medallion was not with the group), a restricted transmittal ordering Sandstead to report to 8th AAF Headquarters on September 29, 1942 plus many more military and personal related papers. Sandstead's log book with entries showing he flew Spitfires and other British aircraft as a pilot of the RAF and then logs showing he flew P39' and P38's as fighter pilot with the 8th AAF. There is a photo album with many pictures of Sandstead standing beside different aircraft with one photo of him standing beside what appears to be his aircraft "Lost Hope". There are misc. rank insignia and Sandstead's Dog Tag that were found in the bottom his military trunk. Other items in this group are 3 pair of "pinks" pants, 2 pair of khaki and 2 pair of "greens" pants. There is a leather A-2 jacket with a Rough Wear Clothing Co. AAF contract tag-The leather is still supple and original waist/sleeve cuffs only show minimal wear. There are 2 pair of flight boots with one pair being British. Both flight caps have electronics and are English pilot issue. The Officer's visor hat is English made. There are 3 four pocket class A tunics-1 is khaki. One of the green tunics is English made. Both green tunics have RAF wings on the right breast. The bullion RAF wing is the more scarce smaller size. There are 2 Officer's quality "Ike" jackets. There are 2 A-4 flight coveralls, one pair of B-9 flight pants and 2 AN-S-31A summer weight flight coveralls. There is a pair of English made leather pilot's flight gloves and 5 overseas caps (US made). Also included in this amazing group is a 1943 dated B-4 inflatable life vest with both cylinders and the dye marker pack still intact. There are several shirts, ties and even socks included. Sandstead's named B-4 bag is also included. This grouping is all original and as acquired from the estate of Capt. Sandstead!

Early 1st Type SS Officer's Factory Chained Dagger With Presentation Engraving On Blade Lot #76 (Sale Order 79 of 221) Direct from Veteran's estate and never before seen on the collector market! Black ebony grip having the more rounded edges. Nickel silver fittings and grip eagle. Correct painted scabbard with early version type 2/B-1 chain. Center scabbard band having the early thinner edges and single mounting screw. Nickel plated scabbard fittings. The wonton hanger clip is missing the spring. Non-maker marked blade has minor spots of age graying and scabbard runner marks and has most of the original factory cross grain remaining. Motto is very crisply etched and still retains some of the original light gray burnishing. Lower cross guard fitting has the Officer's SS service number of 42797 had engraved. The reverse of the blade has been jeweler engraved "Gewidmet v. Deinen Kameraden des SS-Zuges III Osterfeld" which roughly translates to "Dedicated by your comrades of the SS Zuges III (Train/Reichsbahn District III..?) Osterfeld". On the blade is a small 1/64 nick to edge of blade near the tip. Rare early factory produced M36 SS Officer's dagger! Definitely one of a kind and having the SS Officer's serial number could possibly be researched.

Mid To Late WWII Knight's Cross With Case/Ribbon-Steinhauer & Luck Type A-935/4 Lot #100 (Sale Order 103 of 221) Textbook 100% WW2 period Knights Cross with ribbon and leatherette case. This stunning, untouched example, is referred to as the Type A Knights Cross by the maker of Steinhauer & Luck. The reverse of the cross is stamped 935 and has the incused LDO number 4 for the firm of Steinhauer & Luck. The suspension ring is stamped 935 also. A lot of the original frosted finish still remains. The iron core still retains nearly all of the original black matte finish. These later war S & L examples are quite scarce as only a few are known to have been awarded with this maker marking! Other WW2 period Knights Cross examples of this Knight's Cross can be found in Dietrich Maerz's critically acclaimed reference book "The Knights Cross Of The Iron Cross" . Senior Leader Forestry Hirschfanger/Cutlass With Scabbard Dedication-Engraved Blade Lot #123 (Sale Order 126 of 221) No maker. Gilded brass hilt straps, knuckle-bow and fluted clamshell shows light surface wear with much gilding remaining. Light yellow toned, ivory grip has no chips and only a few hairline cracks on both obverse and reverse plates. All six brown acorns are present. Plated blade grades excellent with runner marks and some gray pitting at the tip. Obverse and reverse blade is etched with standard hunting scenes of hunter, stags, boar and hunting dogs. Has its red felt blade buffer pad present. Leather scabbard shows surface wear to finish of leather but no rips, tears or creases. Dent free fittings retain much of the gilding and are complete with staples. Reverse upper fitting is jeweler engraved, "Fischer S/L Hooss Z. Erg. An das Staatsexamen Herbst 1902" (to Hooss from Fischer upon your completion of the state examination Autumn 1902).

Liner pads have hardened slightly. Original liner is maker/size stamped. Chin strap shows a lot of wear. Camo finish appears to be a mixture of sand and painted applied heavily. Unusual geometric camo pattern. Lot number and size is a known paratrooper helmet according to Brian Ice's Lot Number Reference. Although the camo finish shows a lot of age these camo helmets can be hard to qualify as having been period applied and we have had several different options that vary. WW2 US Airborne Jump Jacket With Jump Pants-From 11th Airborne Officer Estate Lot #167 (Sale Order 171 of 221) Original WW2 issue set consisting of matching 2nd pattern M42 US Airborne jump Jacket and trousers. The M42 jacket has a āPrenticeā heavy metal zipper that leads to a pair of snaps at throat and laydown collar. A pair of integral shoulder straps with metal snaps to each side of the collar. A pair of angled bellows with a pair of metal snaps to the flaps is to the chest along with a pair of pleated , bellow hip pockets also with flaps and metal snaps. Below the collar, to the front is a 19 cm. long āpocketā that is accessed by a metal zipper to each side that would have held a switchblade knife with thumb switch. A matching waist belt with metal friction buckle and a retaining loop is also present. Each of the cuffs have a pair of metal snaps to keep cuffs tight to the wrist. The interior is unlined and unmarked. The chest measures approximately 38 inches. The Serval and Prentice zippers are in good working order. The contract tag is present inside lower right pocket but is "washed" out. There appears to be Schick's stamped serial number stamped close to the interior neck and is very faint and not completely legible, the numbers that are legible (65) match the serial number on his personal effects trunk that is shown in the last photo (trunk is not included with these items). additional button to the waist, as well as seven cloth belt loops and seven matching buttons. A pair of button type pockets are to the rear, vertical/pockets to the front hips, watch fob pocket, and large, snap flap, pleated bellows pockets to the legs. The interior of the cotton waistband has a size stamp of āwaist 32 inseam 32ā. The contract tag is present on one of the interior pockets and is still legible. This jump jacket and trouser set is 100% guaranteed WWII issue an d both show period "been there" combat wear and light soiling. The jacket and pants are identified to Captain Estley Schick of the U.S. 11th Airborne Division/511th PIR were acquired directly from Capt. Schick. He proudly wore 5 battle stars and invasion arrowhead on his Asiatic-Pacific Campaign ribbon bar! If you want just one example of a Pacific Theater US Airborne Paratrooper this would be it!
