The curved back bentwood child's arm chair features a large round seat with a hand-painted amusing design of a monkey perched on the tip of a seated elephant's trunk; the back rest has a design of a pelican head with large beak. The seat is signed Benjamin Rabier. Rabier (1864-1939) was a French illustrator most known for amusing animal scenes, and for his illustrations in the famous 1887 children's book featuring Tintin. The chair is structurally excellent, the finish is original with few rubs. French, circa 1900.

Although impressionistic in style, the details even include the wrist jointing. The canvas is stretched on wood frame with the center stretched stamped "Moirinat, Paris, 13(8?)4 Faubourg-St. Honore", and set in gilt wooden frame. Circa 1890.

Marks: Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 12 (head). Generally excellent. Emile Jumeau, circa 1892, with original eye system deposed by Fouquet & Douville in March, 1891; for a short period of time, Jumeau manufactured the unique head for this system. Few examples with the intact unique eyes are known to exist.

A bombe-shaped case with embossed gilt paper cover hinges open to reveal a satin lined interior in which is resting a wax baby with sculpted curly hair, movable blue glass eyes which are closed which reclining, and open when arising. A keywind at the side creates music when wound. Structurally excellent, musical mechanism functions well, head mechanism needs adjustment. Circa 1930s.
