WWII Ike Jacket & Memorabilia

WWII Ike Jacket & Memorabilia. This WWII jacket belonged to a war veteran by the name of Clarence B. Clarke, Jr. He was a pilot and glider pilot who participated in the Varsity Mission over the Rhine. Included with this jacket is the Special Order to report overseas along with a laundry bag that Clarence left behind when departing for his overseas destination. The laundry bag has written on it all of the Army bases that Clarence was assigned to while in the States. The jacket has the Airborne Troop Carrier patch on the left shoulder and a Flight Officer pin on top of each shoulder. There's a bullion Glider Pilot badge sewn above the left breast pocket, U.S. insignia pins and aviation insignia pins on each lapel. Ribbon bars above left breast pocket are Air medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal (with 3 stars and an arrowhead), American Campaign medal and World War II Victory medal. Left arm of jacket carries 2 metal bars (overseas service bars). Also included with this jacket is the pilot's log and glider pilot's flight log used during WWII. There is a picture of Clarence, with his glider, taken the day before crossing over the Rhine (Notice his children's names painted on the glider). There is another picture that was taken after the war, during a parade in downtown Berea, Ohio; front row is the Clarke family, Lt. William Clarke, F/O Clarence Clarke Jr. and Lt. Donald Clarke. The last item included in this lot is an original letter written by Clarence Clarke to his wife on the 27th of March, 1945; talking about his experience in the Varsity Mission over the Rhine.

Poly-Tech AKS-762 in 7.62 x 39 mm. This Ultra rare red, side folder, semi-auto has a 16-5/16" barrel length. New and unfired, it comes with a chrome bore, side folding metal stock assembly, all red plastic fiberglass stock components; top handguard, forend, pistol grip and side plates for the folding stock, and a super rare thumb button release. This style of AKS was one of the last versions imported by Poly-Tech prior to the 1994 assault rifle ban and is much rarer than the Poly-Tech Legend or Norinco versions of AK rifles. It is estimated that less than 500 total of this model were ever imported into the US prior to the ban, which disallowed several features, one of them being the folding stock. It is reported that these rifles were imported in two groups; approximately 250 in each shipment. This rifle is marked near right rear side on the receiver, "Model AKS-762/Cal. 7.62x39mm/Poly-Tech, Bejing China". The underside of the receiver is correctly marked, "Imported By K.F.S. Atlanta/Made in China" (representing Keng's Firearms; the only Chinese Government authorized importer of this style of rifle). These were made by the Askari factory, a state arsenal. Fourth is also a Turkish Bayonet. This is for the 1935 Mauser rifle. This is a cut down and shows lots of use. Blade length is 9-5/8" with an overall condition of average. Scabbard is steel and has lots of dings and bumps. Bayonet has wood handle. These were made by the Askari factory as proofed on the handle (AS.FA) Fifth is a Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co. Soligen Bayonet. This bayonet is for the Argentine model 1909 contract mauser. Overall shape is excellent. Blade length is 15-5/8". Numbers on scabbard match numbers on blade. Scabbard is marked with an X within a D and a + within an O. Tip of scabbard has letters R.A.

Colt Model 1883 in 12 Gauge. This side-by-side has 2-3/4" chambers and 25-1/2" browned Damascus pattern barrels with 7/16" concave matted rib. Has front and middle brass beads, cylinder chokes and extractor. Case-colored frame has light border engraving, double triggers and automatic top-tang sliding safety. The checkered round knob stock and ebony insert splinter forend are marble-streaked, dense English walnut with a thin varnish, 20 line-per-inch checkering and a blank silver monogram on the toe line. Length of pull is 14-1/8" to a Colt hard rubber butt plate. Drop at comb is 1-3/4", drop at heel is 3-1/4", weight is 7-7/8 lbs. Manufactured ca. 1889. Overall condition is fair to good with a tight action and indications of light to moderate use. Barrels have been shortened; chambers and bores have patchy brown oxidation with fine chipping on the breech. Frame and barrels have a mottled silver patina with black oxidation spots and pitting with faint traces of original color; right barrel has notable areas of denting toward the muzzle; top rib has chafing along the edges and screw slots are slightly marred. Stock and forend have an uneven revarnish with dents and scrapes. SN-4112
