1864 Confederate States of America $20 note T-76 Richmond, VA Grades xf Lot #122.5 (Sale Order 172 of 620) 1864 T-76 $20 Confederate States of America Note. The note is dated February 17th 1864 and was issued in Richmond, VA. This $20 Confederate note has a picture of the Tennessee State Capitol in the center with a pink overprint. In the lower right corner is a picture of Alexander H. Stephens. This note in particular has a double ratification error listing both on demand and two years as redeemable dates. This note was printed on plain paper with pink and black ink on the front and blue ink on the back. The Confederate States of America issued a total of seven issues of currency during its existence beginning with the Act of March 9th, 1861 and ending with the Act of February 17th, 1864. The first notes were issued through the Confederacy's original capital of Montgomery, Alabama and this 1864 is a Final Issue Note issued in Richmond, Virginia. Hand signed and numbered by Confederate officials for Register and for Treasurer. An excellent example of this civil war era note. Estimated Value $100-$125.

This coin also has a 30 degree clockwise rotated die. It exhibits all the die characteristics which define the 1922 Plain. When looking at a 1922 look for the following to determine if it is the 1922 Plain which is also known as Die Pair #2: Absolutely no trace of a D, Second 2 in date is sharper than the first 2, All letters in TRUST are sharp, WE is only slightly mushy, L in LIBERTY butts up against the rim, Reverse is sharp with nice wheat lines. According to Jaime Hernandez from PCGS, ‘The 1922 No D Lincoln cent is the only circulation strike coin, in the entire Lincoln cent series which lacks its intended mint mark. In 1922, the Denver Mint was the only Mint which produced cents for that year. Consequently, all 1922 cents should bare the D mint mark. However, since the Denver Mint was under extreme pressure to produce cents for that year, there was a lot of sloppiness in the production process. The 1922 No D Lincoln cent has always been recognized as a major variety within the Lincoln cent series. Due to its popularity this coin has always commanded a hefty premium.

I wonder if the grader balanced the PL out with the marks, and instead of the odd grade of 61 PL, just chose ms63. I think the correct grade for this coin is ms62 PL.

The 81-s as we all know was one of the dates which kicked out more proof like coins than any other. With that in mind, I do believe if any other date exhibited the PL characteristics on this example, it would most assuredly get PL. I do believe that due to the prevalance of strong PL and dimple coins in this date, the grader opted NOT to call this one PL. But it deserved that designation. In my opinion, this is an ms65 PL, hands down.

I would say that an upgrade to ms66 is very possible, especially if you happen to get lucky to get a grader who favors antique looking toning.

1864 Confederate States of America $20 note T-76 Richmond, VA Grades xf Lot #363 (Sale Order 512 of 620) 1864 T-76 $20 Confederate States of America Note. The note is dated February 17th 1864 and was issued in Richmond, VA. This $20 Confederate note has a picture of the Tennessee State Capitol in the center with a pink overprint. In the lower right corner is a picture of Alexander H. Stephens. This note in particular has a double ratification error listing both on demand and two years as redeemable dates. This note was printed on plain paper with pink and black ink on the front and blue ink on the back. The Confederate States of America issued a total of seven issues of currency during its existence beginning with the Act of March 9th, 1861 and ending with the Act of February 17th, 1864. The first notes were issued through the Confederacy's original capital of Montgomery, Alabama and this 1864 is a Final Issue Note issued in Richmond, Virginia. Hand signed and numbered by Confederate officials for Register and for Treasurer. An excellent example of this civil war era note. Estimated Value $100-$125.

I can't explain this coin. Thankfully, NGC was there to certify that it is a true Unc United States made morgan dollar. The coin is worth owning as a conversation piece.

What I find unique about this date and other dates in this era is that due to the great depression, many denominations and many mints did not issue some coins in some years. In 1931 the only issue was made in San Francisco. There are no P or D mints, and after this one there would be no Buffalo's made again until 1934. For the World War II generation, many of whom were born during the great depression; a birth year set consists of far fewer coins than most of us realize.
