Pearl Harbor 60th Anniversary Educational Display Lot #1109d (Sale Order 112 of 871) Pearl Harbor 60th Anniversary Educational Display - This is a museum quality display relating the history of the Pearl Harbor attack, December 7th, 1941. The centerpiece is a 6’ x 33” photo collage of the faces of survivors of the attack, taken while attending the 60th Anniversary celebration held at Pearl Harbor in 2001. The collage is accented with reduced size posters. The center top photo shows Japanese Dive Bomber pilot Zenji Abe who bombed the West Virginia, and US Marine Richard Fiske, the bugler on the West Virginia that morning. (Pictured between them is Dixie Devil Diver museum owner, Steve Thompson.) They became very close friends after the War, meeting every year at every Pearl Harbor December 7th Anniversary and spreading flowers together from the Arizona Memorial. Also included in this Lot is a 2’ x 3’ framed map depicting the name and location of every Vessel under attack, and each Vessel is color coded to indicate, “Sunk”, “Severely Damaged”, “Moderately Damaged”, and “Undamaged”. Perhaps a very unique aspect of this display is a 20” x 30” PHOTO Taken on December 5th by a U.S. Airman, showing an Aircraft Carrier (Possibly the USS Enterprise) tied-up at Ford Island. Also included is a 36” x 12” collage of actual photos of the attack, and two interesting 11” x 14” framed data sheets. One with more photos and a casualty listing and the other is “REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR”, honoring all Veterans, past and present. This unique depiction of history would be a valuable addition to a museum or an educational setting. The items, which are shown surrounding this exhibit, fit in very effectively with the message conveyed, and are available under separate lot numbers.

50th Anniv Comm Poster Flag Raising on Iwo Jima Lot #1182 (Sale Order 186 of 871) VERY UNIQUE 50th Anniversary Commemorative Poster of the Flag Raising on Iwo Jima - For the 50th Anniversary Reunion celebrating the battle for Iwo Jima, a 24" x 36" poster was made from the original photo of the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi, and all attendees were asked to sign it. Those are the signatures appearing in black, and includes the Pulitzer prize winner photographer Joe Rosenthal who took the iconic photo. All of the rest of the signatures, those in red, were collected by myself during trips to the island in 1999 and 2000 with Veterans who actually fought on Iwo. Included among them and on the flag is the signature of Jack Lucas. He lied about his age and joined the Marines when he was just 14, and became the youngest Medal of Honor winner of WWII at just 16. He threw himself on two Japanese grenades to save seven of his comrades, and somehow survived. The historian and author of "Band of Brothers" Stephen Ambrose signed it for me while on Iwo, and also James Bradley, the author of "Flag of our Fathers". John Bradley, his father, was one of those participating in either the first or second flag raising. When I purchased the poster with just the black 50th Reunion signatures, I was told it was just one of six ever reproduced from the original. I cannot verify that, though I have never seen another one like it. What I can say for certain is that this is the only copy I have made from the one I took to Iwo. To that extent it is very unique and one-of-a-kind, and looks extraordinary when displayed in any setting.
