A nice example of this first US Commemorative. The Columbus Half dollar along with the Isabella Quarter were minted in honor of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' voyage to the new world. It was first distributed at the worlds fair honoring that voyage. When examining a Columbian Exposition half dollar The first points to show wear are Columbus’ eyebrow, cheek and the hair behind his forehead and jaw. On the reverse, check the foresail and mainsail, as well as the right side of the Eastern Hemisphere.

The folks who have gotten them have also said that they are better than average circulated condition and all nice Indian cents. All of the shotgun rolls we currently have up are from One Consignee's Estate. A difficult to find original roll. This particular Roll shows an 1895 on one end.

Great Original Roll of Peace Dollars. The roll is held in an old "Steel Strong Automatic" Wrapper Dated from 1921. The Roll is also faintly stamped "Banker Trust of Philadelphia, Central City Office, Walnut Street at Juniper". I researched that name and the Bank closed in the post-Crash of '29 Depression period (my research showed that it failed on Dec 22, 1930). The Two ends showing are the obverse of an 1923, and the other end has an 's' San Francisco Mint Reverse. We received this incredible consignment from a private collector while at the Baltimore show. The consignee gave us his father's entire estate hoard of shotgun rolled coins. We have had great feedback on the rolls so far. The rolls are marked Circ and based on the ends that we can see and the feedback received, they seem to be PQ rolls. Some lucky bidders have gotten key dates and PL's. Perhaps the most historically significant of the pre-federal United States coins are the Fugio Cents, which take their name from the Latin word fugio (I fly) appearing on their obverse. Though privately manufactured by James Jarvis of New Haven, Connecticut and his partners, the Fugio Cents were commissioned by the infant United States government on April 21, 1787. On the obverse of each cent appears a sundial, as well as the sun itself. On the reverse are thirteen interlocking rings, each of which bears the name of one of the colonies. At the center are the words AMERICAN CONGRESS and WE ARE ONE. This expresses the unity that the American colonies needed to protect their independence. The message was particularly important, since most Americans were loyal to their own state, but they didn't initially feel much connection to the nation as a whole.

Althougth the date is unreadable, after thorough examination this coin is clearly the ultra rare 1794. This was easily established by 1st weighing the coin. In 1794 & 1795 the coin weiged 104 grains or 6.74 grams. In mid 1795, the weight was reduced to 80 grains or 5.44 grams. This coin weighs 6.7 grams, thus it is either a 1794 or 1795. To determine which it is clearly established that it is the 1794 based on the cap placement. On the 1795, the cap is signifigantly to the right of the edge, and in the 1794, the cap is virtually touching the edge. This example has the cap nearly touching. The coin therefore must be the 1794, and I am so confident of this that if you get the coin certified by PCGS or NGC, and they disagree, I will buy the coin back from you for 5x what you paid. (If submitting, I suggest adviseing PCGS or NGC of the method of determination of the date in the submission form), if the winner would like Sandi and I to take it to Baltimore at the end of the month and get it graded and certified for you, we will be happy to. The Huguenot-Walloon commemorative was created to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the founding of New Amsterdam (New York), The coin caused terrible controversy when created. The Huguenots and Walloons were French Protestants seeking religious freedom and the coin was condemned as a violation of Church and State and also derided for the depiction on the obverse of two Huguenot Martyrs who died a hundred years before the founding of New Amsterdam and having no relation to the event. The coin was designed by George T. Morgan, and numismatists at the time found the designs poor. When examining a Huguenot the places to check for wear are Admiral Coligny’s cheekbone and the lower foresail and stern of the ship. This particular example has outstanding luster. It is virtually mark free. It is accurately graded as Gem+.

The Roll is also faintly stamped "Banker Trust of Philadelphia, Central City Office, Walnut Street at Juniper". I researched that name and the Bank closed in the post-Crash of '29 Depression period (my research showed that it failed on Dec 22, 1930). The Two ends showing are the obverse of an 1879, and the other end has an 'cc' Carson City Mint Reverse. We received this incredible consignment from a private collector while at the Baltimore show. The consignee gave us his father's entire estate hoard of shotgun rolled coins. We have had great feedback on the rolls so far. The rolls are marked Circ and based on the ends that we can see and the feedback received, they seem to be PQ rolls. Some lucky bidders have gotten key dates and PL's. Actual roll pictured is the roll you will get. A great bank shotgun roll of Indian cents 1c. From the feedback we have received, the rolls are filled with a mixture of 1800's and 1900's. The folks who have gotten them have also said that they are better than average circulated condition and all nice Indian cents. All of the shotgun rolls we currently have up are from One Consignee's Estate. A difficult to find original roll. This particular Roll shows an 1897 on one end.

The Roll is also faintly stamped "Banker Trust of Philadelphia, Central City Office, Walnut Street at Juniper". I researched that name and the Bank closed in the post-Crash of '29 Depression period (my research showed that it failed on Dec 22, 1930). We received this incredible consignment from a private collector while at the Baltimore show. The consignee gave us his father's entire estate hoard of shotgun rolled coins. We have had great feedback on the rolls so far. This roll was in a box marked solid date circulated rolls. Based on the ends that we can see and the feedback received, they seem to be much better than average circ. This roll has an 1889 on one end and obviously a 'cc' Carson City reverse on the other end. Hard Times tokens are privately issued mostly copper large cent sized tokens that were produced from 1833 to 1844. The period of economic hardship during Van Buren's presidency (the Panic of 1837) came to be known as the "Hard Times". With America in a deep recession, people began hoarding coins as a safeguard, and small change disappeared from the marketplace. In response, merchants began buying tokens from private mints so they could make change in business transactions.Ê They were made of copper with a reverse similar to legal U.S. cents. This example is an ideological token without a head. The Ôexecutive experimentÕ was Van BurenÕs sub-treasury idea using a fiscal agent. The tortoise carrying the safe meant the democrats could never get the Bill through congress. On the reverse is a line from Van BurenÕs inaugural speech when he said, ÒI follow in the steps of my illustrious predecessor.Ó Contemporary cartoons showed Van Buren behind a Jackass stepping in its hoofprints. Nice brown color. I estimate the grade to be VF/XF. Good eye appeal. It is a rare piece of American history, and a true prize for collectors. HT-33.

It is interesting to note that the portrait of Lincoln on the Obverse shows him without a beard as he appeared when he was in Illinois. The Obverse was designed by George Morgan and the reverse one of John Sinniock's first designs. George Morgan was the Chief Engraver at the time of the US mint and Sinnock would be his successor, so two US Mint Directors designed this beautiful Commemorative. Points to check for wear include Lincoln’s cheekbone, jaw, eyebrow and the hair above his ear. On the reverse, examine the eagle’s breast feathers and the grass beneath its left claw.

I researched that name and the Bank closed in the post-Crash of '29 Depression period (my research showed that it failed on Dec 22, 1930). The Two ends showing are the obverse of an 1934, and the other end has an 'p' Philadelphia Mint Reverse. We received this incredible consignment from a private collector while at the Baltimore show. The consignee gave us his father's entire estate hoard of shotgun rolled coins. We have had great feedback on the rolls so far.
