Incredibly RARE 1938 Manufactured Colt M1911A1 Lot #103 (Sale Order 106 of 904) One of only 1,296 made in 1938, by Colt, for the Ordnance Dept., this very rare Colt M1911A1 .45ACP Semi-Automatic Pistol is in excellent condition, with matching serial numbers and original parts. This piece does have an original Colt .45 barrel. Right front trigger guard bow shows "77" as indication of the assembler. Frame shows a gothic "P" proof on left side above the magazine release, and below the release is the letter "H" otherwise indicating the final inspection done by Frederick W. Hauff, who was Chief Inspector of Ordnance for Colt at the time. The serial number of this piece is 713345, putting it well within the manufactured serial numbers for 1938 between 712,350 and 713,645. Colt initially produced the M1911A1 models in 1924, with serial numbers starting at 700,000 which puts this within the first 14,000 ever produced. Approximately 80% of the original finish is present, with only a couple of tiny rust spots on the slide. The correct, checkered walnut grips themselves are in excellent condition, and this piece functions perfectly.

Very Rare WWII FP-45 Liberator Pistol Lot #115 (Sale Order 118 of 904) This FP-45 (Flare Projector Caliber .45) Liberator Pistol was manufactured, during World War II, by the United States military for use by the resistance forces in occupied territories. Liberators were never issued to Allied or American troops, and there are very few actual documented instances of the gun being used for the indended purpose, as the resistance fighters would have rarely kept records of detail due to the risks should the documents everbe captured by the enemy. Very few of the FP-45s were ever distributed as they intended, and nearly all were destroyed, post-war, by the Allied forces. Initially suggested by an Officer in the Polish military in 1942, this project was assigned to the U.S. Army Joint Psychological Warfare Committee and designed for the U.S. Army two months later by George Hyde of General Motors, in Dayton, Ohio. Production was done by the Guide Lamp Division of General Motors as to avoid any conflicting priorities with the Inland Division production of the M1 Carbine. The Liberator project took a total of approximately 6 months from conception to the end of the production with about 11 weeks of actual manufacturing time, and was done by a group of 300 workers. These were crude, single-shot pistols designed for quick and cheap mass-production. With an unrifled barrel, and cheap steel parts, these cost about $2.10 to make by the time they were delivered, and it earned them the nickname "Woolworth pistol". The FP-45 Liberator was shipped in a cardboard box with 10 rounds of .45ACP ammo, a wooden dowel to remove the empty cartridge casing, and instructions in the form of a comic strip that detailed how to load and fire the weapon. Extra ammo could be stored in the pistol grip, but had to be ejected and reloaded individually. The concept behind the use of this gun was to have a resistance fighter recover one, sneak up on an Axis occupier, kill or incapacitate them, and retrieve their weapons. General Dwight D. Eisenhower's staff never saw practicality when it came to mass dropping these over occupied Europe, and fewer than 25,000 of these were shipped to Great Britan for the French resistance. This particular FP-45 is in good condition, however neither the original ammo nor the original cardboard box are present.

German New Reich Chancellery Hanging Banner Lot #350 (Sale Order 279 of 904) This elaborate, near mint condition tapestry / banner had been hanging in the main hall in the New Reich Chancellery which was build right across the garden from the Old Reich Chancellery, Adolf Hitler referred to it as "fit for a soap company" rather than being suitable for the primary headquarters of a Greater German Reich. The New Reich Chancellery was designed and built in under a year, by Adolf Hitler's favorite architect, Albert Speer, putting it 48 hours ahead of schedule by the time it was completed. Over 4,000 workers had worked around the clock in shifts until it was finally completed. While this structure was completed quickly, the interior fittings weren't completed until the early 1940's. Speer later, during the war, was appointed Armaments Minister and Director of Forced Labor. This building had suffered severe damage during the Battle of Berlin between April and May of 1945. As a result, very few pieces from the location made it out intact, fewer still unscathed. Included with this lot is all of the corresponding documentation from the American Air Force Pilot, William R. Verheyen, who entered the Soviet Zone of Berlin and removed the tapestry from the New Reich Chancellery. You'll find a comprehensive log book of the pilot's flights dating back to his training days that has an entry to show he was in Berlin from July 15th to 26th 1945. The pass was issued by the Soviets to allow passage in and out of that region of Berlin (dated July 23rd, 1945), an American Red Cross Map of Paris, hand written flight-log notes, a photo believed to be Verheyen and his wife, Operation Orders dated May 16th, 1945, a Memorandum checklist to Pilots preparing for foreign missions, dated November 26th of 1944, and more. Please look closely at the photographs provided with this lot, as there are some handwritten notes and other pieces of interest. All of the documentation that accompanies this lot is original and not photocopied. Measures 69" x 50".

He spent several years creating pamphlets and training films for the Army. In early 1943, Germany began blocking the supply of an anti-malaria drug, quinine, to the Allied troops. Geisel created these booklets in an effort to explain to the troops how best to avoid with his creation, "blood-thirsty Ann," who was a depiction of a mosquito that carried the disease.
