***Auction Highlight*** Redfield Collection 1897-p Morgan Dollar $1 Vam 1C, R-6 Grades GEM Unc (fc) Lot #46 (Sale Order 46 of 215) ***Auction Highlight*** 1897-p Morgan Dollar $1 Grades GEM Unc. Lustrous with some pretty obverse rim toning. Exceptional luster. Super eye appeal. Additionally this is the Vam 1c featuring 'Die Break ERIC'. This is an R-6, rarity 6 variety. This coin is from the LaVere Redfield collection better known as “the Redfield Hoard.” When he died in 1974, his estate was worth about $100 million, and in the basement of his modest home, behind a false wall was a hoard of over 411,000 silver dollars. Most of the silver dollars were Morgan Dollars, and to a much lesser extent there were Peace Dollars too. Many of them were still in their original Mint bags._Just to give an idea of the size of 411,000 silver dollars; it is a weight of about_11-tons. LaVere Redfield has been called thrifty, frugal, and eccentric. After the Stock Market Crash of 1929, _Redfield arrives in Los Angeles, CA with his life's savings, and had decided it_was a good time to invest in Oil and Stocks. From California, Redfield moved to_Reno, Nevada, and began to invest in Real Estate. It seems he would take as much of his liquid assets as possible and _convert it into silver dollars whenever possible. That is most likely why _he moved to Reno. With all the Casinos using silver Dollars, the Banks _always had a ready supply. Estimates tell us that at one time LaVere Redfield had amassed over 600,000 _silver dollars. In 1963, his house was burglarized, and it was reported _that approximately 100,000 of the silver dollars were stolen. That is _probably what encouraged him to build a false wall in front of his coal bin. _That way, the only thing he had to do was to just drop the bags down the Coal _Shute. If one would venture a guess, they would say that Redfield was not _a numismatist, and they would be correct, but he did want his silver dollars _unused and in original Mint bags whenever possible. Behind the wall was 400 bags of silver _dollars, most of which had been sitting there for decades. When the coins were put up for auction, there _were so many coins the lot could not be properly examined by the potential _bidders, and when the hammer fell Steve Markoff of A-Mark Corporation purchased _the entire lot for $7.3 million. It has since been estimated that the _wholesale value of the Redfield Hoard of silver dollars was about $20 million. _Paramount International Coin Corporation in Ohio was one of the main company’s used to sell the hoard. They packaged the Redfield silver dollars in a hard plastic holder with a _cardboard label surrounding the coin reading either "A Silver Dollar from the _Redfield Collection," or "US Silver Dollar, Paramount International Coin Corp." The Redfield Hoard created quite a stir within the coin community. It _is not, nor has it ever been just about the coins, but rather it is the story _that surrounds the coins. That is what makes it so exciting. Paramount graded this coin Mint State 65. Estimated Value $650

***Auction Highlight*** 1893-cc Vam 2 LDS Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Choice+ Unc by USCG (fc) Lot #148 (Sale Order 143 of 215) ***Auction Highlight*** 1893-cc Vam 2 LDS Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Choice+ Unc by USCG. Highlight of the MONTHS Auctions. I was blown away when I examined this coin and confirmed that it is the Vam 2 late die state. The 'V' cash marks can be seen with the naked eye and this is 100% an LDS of this Vam. What makes the late die state so rare and sought after? To quote Vamworld, 'late die stage specimens are particulary desireable as these are believed to be among the very last coins struck at the Carson City Mint. 12 branch mint proofs are reported and were struck from a strongly repolished stage of this die marriage.' This might be the finest known example of the Vam 2 LDS. In addition to the spectacular variety, this coin is one of the Key dates to the entire Morgan dollar series and one fo the hardest Carson City Morgan's to find. This is the 1893-cc, and this particular example has an incredibly clean cheek, spectacular luster, and is blast white. It has a semi proof like obverse and a fully proof like reverse with frosted devices and mirrored fields. This coin has it all. A near Gem example of a numismatic rarity. A Corey's pick, bid to win, don't let it get away coin. You will not find its equal. Good luck. I strongly recommend you do not pass this one by as this may likely be your only opportunity to own one of the last coins struck in Carson City.

***Auction Highlight*** Rare Error Note 2001 Federal Reserve Note $10 Grades Select AU (fc) Lot #217 (Sale Order 204 of 215) ***Auction Highlight*** 2001 Federal Reserve Note $10 Grades Select AU. Significantly misaligned overprint. The seals and District seal are far from their appropriate position, but what is truly interesting about this one is the serial numbers. Not only are they very far from where they should be, they are inverted. The left side is on the top and the right side is on the bottom. I have not seen this before and am unsure how this type of error occured.
