German NSBO Flag Pole Topper

"German NSBO Flag Pole Topper. This flag pole top is in very good condition with nice nickel plating. It has only normal signs of wear and no damage. NSBO: The Nationalsozialistische Betriebszellenorganisation (National Socialist Factory Cell Organization) was a workers organization in Nazi Germany. In 1927, some NSDAP workers in large factories, located mostly in the Berlin area, joined together as an alternative to democratic and Christian labor unions. The NSBO was established in 1928 by these groups. On January 15, 1931, the NSBO was declared a ""Reichsbetriebszellenabteilung"" (German Reich Factory Cell Organization) of the Nazi Party. It began to increase its membership by means of aggressive campaigns, which included both propaganda and violence, under the war-cry: ""Hinein in die Betriebe!"" (Into the Factories!), which was shortened to ""Hib"". The NSBO had overall little success among German organized workers, except in certain regions where they supported strikes, such as the transport strike in Berlin. As a result of the ""Hib"" campaign, the NSBO increased its membership to only about 300.000 by the end of 1931, while the Democratic and Christian labor unions had still well over 5 million members. Some sections of the NSBO had an ideology similar to National Bolshevism. They believed that after the ""national revolution"" occurred, a ""social revolution"" had to follow, to do away with the existing elites. This attitude earned them sympathies in some places, like in Nordhorn, a textile industrial city in the county of Bentheim, where the NSBO defeated the formerly strong Communist labor unions in the industrial worker council elections in 1933. The NSBO's methods then included using armed violence in order to offset a salary reduction in a particular factory. After all non-Nazi trade unions were outlawed by decree on May 2, 1933, the NSBO became the only official workers' organization in Germany. This moment of glory, however, was short because the German Labor Front (DAF) was established a few days later. This was issued as a memento of personal loss and sacrifice on the part of widows and mothers of Canadian sailors and soldiers who laid down their lives for their country during the war; its description was as follows: "The Cross will be a Cross patonce in silver suspended by a purple ribbon; at the end of the upright a crown; at the foot, and at the centre, within a wreath of laurel, the royal cypher "G.R.I." It will be engraved with the number, rank and name of the soldiers commemorated." This on is engraved 101491 Pte. W.D. Matheson.

1704 Battle of Blenheim/Hochstadt Commemorative Medal. This was issued by Friedrich Kleinert in 1704 at Nuremberg. Another example of this piece can be found at the British Museum in London, England. This is a very rare medal. Charles II, the last Spanish Hapsburg, wanted to prevent the partition of the country, which had been decided by England, Holland, and France in the so-called partage tract. Thus, in his will, Phillip of Anjou, a grandson of his sister, married to King Louis XIV, was the only heir to all his kingdoms. Emperor Leopold of Austria, on the other hand, demanded the Spanish property for his son Archduke Karl, which was the cause of the Spanish succession: Austria, the first state entitled to inheritance, summoned the imperial commander-in-chief, Prince Eugene of Savoy, to Italy in the summer of 1701, Duchies of Milan and Mantua. In the Battle of Hochstadt in 1704, to which our medal refers, the Bavarian-French army was completely destroyed by Prince Eugene and the Duke of Marlborough. A total of nearly 14 years of battles took place in all the countries of Central and Southern Europe, until finally, on March 6, 1714, the Peace of Rastatt came. Obverse inscription: PROBATA SOCIORVM VIRTVS FIDESQVE (The valour and faith of the Allies is proved). Also inscribed FRANCONIA SERVATA SVEVIA LIBERATA 1704 (Franconia preserved, Swabia delivered). Also inscribed EVGEN DVX SABAVD - LVDOV WILH MARCH BADEN - JOHANN DVX MARLEBVRG. Inscribed under prior inscription HIS TVTELARIBVS (With these protectors). Maker's mark "FK" on edge of medallion. Reverse inscription: TALLARD FR MARESCH CVM MVLT DVCIB ET X MILLIB MILIT CAPTIS (Tallard, Marshal of France, with many generals and 10,000 soldiers made prisoners). Also inscribed GALLIS BAVARISQVE DEVICTIS (The French and the Bavarians defeated). Edge inscription: DEFENSA FORTITER CONTRA GALLOS ET BOIOARIOS GERMANIA (Germany bravely protected against the French and the Bavarians, MDCLLIIII = 1704). Measurements are 42 millimeters in diameter and 6.5 millimeters thick.
