.69 caliber, 40" round barrel secured by three bands, the middle and upper both double strapped. Brass and iron furniture, full-length walnut stock with recessed cheek rest. Lock marked in script. Lock with round, bridled, removable brass pan and reinforced rounded cock. Appears to be original flint, with the top jaw and screw likely replaced. Weak French cartouche in obverse butt with boxwood plug still present. Stock also marked 8R/HB in a circle and numbered 74. Both sling swivels present, iron, trumpet head ramrod that has had its end converted to a ball screw, bayonet lug under barrel 1" from muzzle. A solid example of a French Revolution / Napoleonic Era dragoon musket.

Condition: Good. The nearly all metal is covered with an old layer of thick, black paint. Much of the metal appears oxidized and pitted under the paint. The breech plug tang is slightly bent and gaps at the breech of the barrel. Mechanically functional, fair bore is dark, dirty and pitted. Stock with numerous bumps, dings, chips and mars and a couple of minor cracks around the lock mortise.

11.25" long with 8.25" circumference. Beveled throat and spout with raised ring and decorated recessed edge. Body carved with detailed geometric shapes, compass rose, fortified town and ship-of-the-line. Signed "BG" near base. An affordable powder horn compared to prices charged by contemporary carvers.

Condition: Excellent condition. Coloration of body is even with highly detailed carving. No cracks, chips, or splits in horn or base.

Condition: Excellent condition. Throat and spout have even coloration with no cracks, dents, or splits in the body or base except for some surface loss on the lefts of the British officer.

.44 caliber, 29.25" octagonal barrel, browned finish, brass mountings, plain, straight-gripped walnut stock. Top of barrel flat marked H&H / NEW YORK. Barrel with hook breech, secured by two keys. Unmarked back-action percussion lock with double set triggers. Leaf rear sight (broken) and dovetailed blade front sight. Two brass pipes, no ramrod, studs for sling swivels. Forend cut for a bayonet mounting bar that is no longer present, although two locating stud holes remain.

This appears to have been a Civil War era Turner Rifle that later had the bayonet lug removed. Research suggests that "H&H" were the firm of Hale & Hodson who worked in New York circa 1858-1861. The 20th NY Volunteer Infantry was organized in New York City in 1861, and all 10 companies were comprised of German immigrants who were members of the various Turnverein Societies within the city and the state. As all of the members were "Turners" the regiment received the nickname "The United Turner Rifles" and fought in a number of major eastern theater battles including Second Manassas, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. Many of the Turner's enlisted carrying their own personal sporting rifles that had been modified to accept large, Bowie-style brass handled bayonets that were often cast with Turner slogan's like "Bahn Frei."

Condition: Good to very good. Barrel with an oxidized brown patina and some scattered surface corrosion. Lock functional, bore very dirty and corroded with visible rifling. Brass with a dark, uncleaned patina. Stock good with scattered bumps and dings. Bayonet lug missing.

.52 caliber, 22" barrel, S/N C10796. Barrel, action, and lockplate have been restocked. New Model 1863 with straight breech. No military cartouches on stock with barrel serial number illegible.

Top of barrel marked with Colt address. Bottom of grip marked "23" with faint cartouche near bottom of left grip. Right grip marked "SARG. E.D. FEACOTT". A search of the USNPS Soldiers and Sailors Database does not return any results for an E.D. Feacott. Front and rear sight have been added.

Condition: Fair condition. Piece has been heavily cleaned, leaving behind some markings and pits. Grips have some darkening and dents consistent with age. Bore fair.

A pair of black leather box doctor's saddle bags with connecting yoke, edges and flaps tooled and decoratively stitched, embossed "ELLIOT'S PATENT / GRANTED JAN. 18, 1870 / A.A. MELLIER / ST. LOUIS, MO. / SOLE PROPRIETOR" in an oval. The interior of each bag is divided into two tin-lined compartments, three with wood and leather bottle , the bottom halves folding out. An 1878 publication identifies Mellier as the manufacturer of both medicines and this model of saddle bag.

Milton Gherst enlisted in Company A of the 14th Pennsylvania Cavalry in January of 1864. In May 1865 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Gherst survived the war and became a trust officer in the Berks County Trust Company of Reading, Pennsylvania. He was active in the Grand Army of the Republic, in which he served as a Department Commander in 1906. During his post-war career, Gherst served as Adjutant General of the Third Brigade of the Pennsylvania National Guard and would rise to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel during the Spanish-American war. Gherst died in Millersville, Pennsylvania in 1916.

Grip fitted with leather scabbard securing button and partial tag. Lacquered wood scabbard with metal ring. Inside of scabbard appears to be marked "9380."

Condition: Very good condition. Blade mostly clean with only minuscule darkening but free of any chips or other damage. Scabbard has numerous marks and has been repaired with electrical tape. Scabbard is most likely a replacement.

26.5" blade with 15" fuller. 31.5" overall length. Wire-wrapped raysking grip with brass folding guard and five-petal blossoms. Leather scabbard with brass throat, tip, and hanging ring.

Flag measures 33"x58" multi-piece construction. This is the type of ensign in use from 1921-1957, the type as carried in the 1936 Olympics.

CANADIAN RED SHIELD 1921-1957 On November 21, 1921, a royal proclamation made the royal arms of Canada to their present form. Flag makers started to use the new "Official " arms right away. At the end of the Great War when the College of Heralds was working on the current Canadian Coat of Arms, they wanted the maple leaves to be red, as they are at present. Sir Joseph Pope did everything in his power to stop it in favour of green leaves, on the assumption that vigorous leaves are green and dying (fall) leaves are red. The College of Heralds got their way by recommending to King George V that the leaves be "proper," natural coloured in heraldic language. Since both red and green are "proper" hence the change in 1957 could be made without any need to revisit the Grant of Arms. The Red Canadian Ensign Flag for the Canadian Active Service Force was approved for use on December 7, 1939 Flag Label " Paul & Hs " and " Canadan " 3x5 "

The Canadian Active Service Force (CASF) was the field force raised by the Canadian Army in the Second World War. Legally, it was distinct from the Permanent Active Militia and the Non-Permanent Active Militia, and a soldier had to be attested for service. The CASF had its own standards for enlistment and began recruiting on 1 Sep 1939. The term CASF was deleted in late 1940, and the term Canadian Army (Active) was used to represent full-time military units. The Canadian Active Service Force was officially mobilized on 1 Sep 1939. The Canadian government had decided not to place the emphasis on military involvement in the Second World War on ground forces, and instead of committing to a 60,000 man Army corps, instead authorized a single division for overseas service, with a second division to be raised and kept in Canada, only to be used "if necessary." The infantry brigades were mobilized from existing Militia units, keeping their names, badges and traditions (unlike the practice in the First World War, where Canadian Expeditionary Force units were raised as numbered battalions, often from several Militia units).

All three Permanent Force regiments were represented in the order of battle of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division. Both divisions had three infantry brigades, each with three rifle battalions and a machine gun battalion, and each brigade was organized along regional lines. This organization was changed substantially over the next two years, with the machine gun battalions being reallotted on a scale of one per division rather than one per brigade, as well as reorganization of the rifle battalions of the 5th and 6th Brigades in 1940.

Condition: Poor to fair condition. Metal has a gunmetal coloration with some staining and light rust. Stock has several blemishes including crack which encircles grip. Mechanically functional and holds at half cock. Bore poor to fair.

Leather pouch measures 7" x 9". Flap with very faint patterns of small circles forming the perimeter and another pattern parallel to it 1" immediately above. Unusual 4" vertical line of the tiny circles as well on the flap. Items inside the pouch include a shot measuring tool and bullet mold marked JL1.

Condition: Hand-sewn stitching on right side to secure the handle to the bag and left side is void of stitching. The perimeters of the bag are void of the original stitching. The bag does retain some of its hand-sewn stitching in areas and is still capable of carrying objects. The leather bag displays some crazing.
