RARE Over the Top by Arthur Guy Empey (1917) SIGNED BY WWI HERO SOLDIER AND WRITER Lot #20 (Sale Order 20 of 53) Over the Top by Arthur Guy Empey; Published by G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York and London (1917) SIGNED. Empey was a professional American soldier who enlisted in the British Army and served with it in France during World War I until he was wounded and discharged. Returning to the States, he embarked upon a writing career (this wartime memoir sold over a quarter of a million copies), and also went into the movie business, owning his own production company and starring in several early silent era films. Later, Empey wrote and published a number of pulp war adventure stories. Empey produced and acted in the movie version of Over the Top [1918]. Good condition, hardcover with some light spotting and a "Compliments of Jordan Marsh Company" stamp on inside cover.
