CIVIL WAR 49TH NY INFANTRY REGIMENTAL DRUM NAMED Lot #6017 (Sale Order 17 of 417) Great example of a hand painted regulation Civil War drum with hand painted eagle from the 49th New York Infantry. Strong fading on paint so text is partially non-legible. Above eagle on banner reads 'George Kurtzwart' followed by faded text and a legible '49'. Below reads 'Yorktown 3 May 62'. Following, below this line reads 'Williamsburg 5 May 62' . Interior shows original Klemm & Brothers tag. Side wall rope is still attached. Flesh hoop displays 4 minor tears towards center. Measures 16 1/2" in diameter and 13" in height. VG condition. At age 18, George Kurtzwart enlisted September 6, 1862, at Buffalo. He served three years with the 49th New York Infantry. He died Jun. 1, 1867. This lot has a reserve.

Items are in great condition considering age with no signs of damage beyond expected discoloration and minor corrosion due to aging. Items have been properly stored with no major paint loss to the outer green layer of trunk, no damage to internal wood paneling for separation, and no corrosion to the metal mess items inside the trunk.

Has 2.5 inch silvered dial, signed Waltham Watch Co. with black painted hour numbers. The face of the clock has a sub dial with seconds indicator and a power reserve indicator. The clock is powered by a Waltham 8-day, spring-driven, adjusted movement with. This movement is housed in a bottom weighted brass case, which is mounted onto gimbals and set in a walnut box with dust cover and lid. The clock and its box are in very good condition, however non-running.

19TH CENTURY MILITARY SWORD SABER LOT OF THREE Lot #6126 (Sale Order 126 of 417) Lot contains three swords from the 19th century era swords. One is a artillery 'gladius' style short sword. The pommel has an image of a sun on both sides, and the base of the scabbard has a woman's face. The leather wrapping of the scabbard is mostly worn away, and the metal has partially split on the side. The sword and scabbard measure about 25 1/2 inches. The second is a light cavalry saber with a brass hilt, broken where the guard meets the grip and along one of the arms of the guard. No scabbard. Blade is somewhat pitted. Measures 34 1/2 inches in length. The third is a 'Gunto' style Meiji era Japanese officer sword. Appears to have a nickeled blade, with the bright covering having worn off in a couple of places, most notably towards the end of the sword. No scabbard. Measures 34 inches in length overall.

19TH 20TH CENTURY MIXED MUSKET RIFLE BAYONET LOT Lot #6141 (Sale Order 141 of 417) Lot includes a variety of bayonets. Seven in total. Four are unknown socket bayonets that measure between 22 and 23 inches in length. One is a US M1819 Hall Rifle bayonet which is cracked and bent 4 inches from the end of the bayonet. Next is an M1891/30 Mosin-Nagant bayonet. Lastly is a Japanese Arisaka Type 30 bayonet, 20 inches in length. All are in good condition with some surface rust, except for the Arisaka, which is in fair condition. Wooden grips are slightly worn and loose, and the locking mechanism is absent.

JAPANESE NAGOYA ARSENAL TYPE 44 CALVARY CARBINE Lot #6179 (Sale Order 178 of 417) Type 44 Carbine as manufactured by the Nagoya Arsenal. The Type 44 Carbine was introduced in 1911 specifically for cavalry use and was used throughout WWII. The receiver is correctly marked on the left side wall with the series mark serial number 24838 and the Nagoya arsenal mark. The carbine has the late third (long type) front barrel band/bayonet lug and is correctly fitted with an original 13 1/2 inch triangular shaped bayonet. It has the standard milled trigger guard floor plate and barrel band. It is fitted with the short staff rear sight and inverted "v" front sight with guards and has the standard stock and hand guard and a flat steel buttplate with the small storage compartment. Produced for commercial sale in the U.S. between 1901 and 1902, only 12,000 were created. They lie in the serial range 2,000-20,000 with this example being early at only 2058. Shows early production features such as the long frame, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch fast tapered barrel, grip safety and no stock lug. 'GERMANY' marked underneath barrel. Serials are matching across entire piece except for aluminum and wood based magazine (2039). Chambered in 7.65mm Luger Auto. Wear is only minor to the walnut checkered grips, they bear no cracking or chips. Good bore. Has been finely re-blued. FFL or C&R required for transfer. Both firearms locks are missing at least some key parts. The flintlock pistol appears to be of an Indo-Persian design, with a wood body covered by intricate brass. The cock of this pistol is missing, as is the ramrod. The percussion pistol is marked 'A. Waters Milbury, MS 1843. It is missing the entire lock mechanism entirely. The flintlock measures about 18 inches in length, and the percussion lock 14 inches. They are in very good condition aside from stated detractions. This lot has a reserve.

Ames of Springfield. 1843 model, Navy acceptance mark 'USN 1844 RP P". Pistol is nickel plated and in excellent condition. Very minor scuff marking. Pistol alleged to have been one of a number of gifts presented by Commodore Matthew Perry to the Emperor of Japan, and the pistol does posses what appears to be a Japanese character next to the lock. The central stripe features the legendary "AFRIKAKORPS" in Latin block letters, machine woven in aluminum flat-wire thread. All letters are of the correct size, proportion and placement, and the weaves pattern on the reverse is the correct tight "herringbone". In fine, unissued condition.

WOODCHIP REICHWEHR M1918 GERMAN COMBAT HELMET Lot #6399 (Sale Order 397 of 417) Original M1918 helmet with rare wood chip brushed/sprayed paint. Paint shows minor oxidation spotting to areas. The inner rim marked "D.R ang". No liner or chinstrap. VG condition. During the first years of the war, German troops used simple camouflage techniques such as adding mud/dirt to the surface of the helmets or affixing breadbag straps and similar devices for attaching foliage. However as the war progressed they systematically painted their helmets in a variety of camouflage patterns. Different painting techniques were used as well, from hand-brushing to spraying.

WWII GERMAN THIRD REICH HEER EM UNIFORM TUNIC Lot #6418 (Sale Order 416 of 417) Uniform tunic of a Heer enlisted man. Has Iron Cross Second Class Ribbon, Iron Cross First Class pin-on badge, and an Infantry Assault Badge on the breast. Also has a Driver badge on the left sleeve below the Gefreiter chevron. The piping around the shoulder boards fluoresces under blacklight and appear to be made out of nylon, and the entire shoulder board may be an addition. Reichsadler patch may also be affixed with modern thread, though the patch itself appears genuine, as does the fabric of the tunic itself. Has Reichsadler stamp and "NE" written in ink on the inside of the collar.
