Box was captured and liberated from the Berghof in Berchasgaden by Sgt. Fred O'Donnell of the Third Division of the United States Army on or about May 4th, 1945. Letter measures 11.75" x 8.25" and exhibits punch holes at left border. The Wilhelm Traupel (1891-1946) an SS-Oberfuhrer discussed in this letter committed suicide on February 7, 1946 in the detention camp at Recklinghausen while being held for a trial for war crimes.
