1916 Silver Barber Dime Lot #14 (Sale Order 14 of 106) The Barber coinage consisted of dime, quarters and half-dollars. These coins were designed by United States Mint chief engraver Charles Barber and the dimes were minted from 1892 to 1916. Barber dimes are composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. By the late 1880s, there were increasing calls for the replacement of the Seated Liberty design. Mint director Edward Leech ordered a competition to come up with a new design for the coinage. Invited artists, however, did not participate in the contest because only the winner would walk away with a cash prize. Other submissions from the public also proved to be unsuitable. Leech therefore turned to Barber, his chief engraver, to come up with the new designs.... Once Barber secured Leech?s approval on the designs, they were sent to President Benjamin Harrison who approved the design in November 1891. The coin?s design has been the subject of mixed reviews from both artists and the public.... Here is one 1916 Barber Dime.

6 Antique Indian Head Penny One Cent Coin Lot #16 (Sale Order 16 of 106) The origins of the Indian Head Penny can be traced back to the days when the Large-Cent coin was the only one in circulation. These coins were first minted in 1793, but faced immediate problems seeing as the US government would not allow any metals other than silver and gold to be used as legal tender. Because of this, the Large-Cents were not able to be used to pay taxes or any other government payment. Then, by the dawn of the 1850s, fluctuations in the price of copper forced the US Mint not only to reduce the size of their pennies (Large-Cents were about the same size as a modern Half-Dollar) but to also look for compositions of metal that were not solely pure copper. Due to this need, the US Mint came up with the Flying Eagle Penny, which was produced shortly from 1856-1858. This coin differed from traditional pennies in that it was comprised of less than 90% copper. Unfortunately, these coins quickly experienced design problems and needed to be replaced. Their replacement was the Indian Head Penny, which made its first appearance on the market in 1859.This group includes one cent coins minted in the years: 1889, 1896, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1905.

Shell Oil 1968 Famous Americans Coin Wright Brothers Lot #62 (Sale Order 62 of 106) AMOUS AMERICANS COIN GAME...was a promotional game issued by the Shell Oil Company in 1968. This was a collect-and-win game with instant winners. With each visit to a participating Shell station, customers received a free aluminum game 'coin' showing a portrait of a famous American. The coins could be mounted on a game card and the objective was to try to collect all the coins in any section of the game card, in which case the player won the prize for that section. Some coins were...INSTANT WINNER...coins.... There are twenty-four basic obverse designs in Shell's Famous Americans Coin Game. Orville and Wilber Wright appear together on one coin; Meriwether Lewis and William Clark appear together on another. Therefore, twenty-six different Americans are featured in the game.... Collecting the right combination of coins won cash prizes of $1, $5, $50, $500, $1,000 or $5,000.......The game coins were struck on aluminum alloy planchets. The planchets are relatively thin, but the alloy used is quite hard which makes the coins sturdy and scratch-resistant compared to standard soft aluminum. The 'coins' (more accurately, 'medallions') are 26mm in diameter with a plain edge.... The coins came from Glendinning sealed in white, square, opaque paper packets. Forty-eight different game coins were issued, tallied as follows: Eighteen common coins with the 'Smooth Shell' reverse design; Eighteen common coins with the 'Coarse Shell' reverse design

6 Antique Indian Head Penny One Cent Coin Lot #67 (Sale Order 67 of 106) The origins of the Indian Head Penny can be traced back to the days when the Large-Cent coin was the only one in circulation. Their replacement was the Indian Head Penny, which made its first appearance on the market in 1859.This group includes one cent coins minted in the years: 1880, 1887, 1897, 1902, 1907 and 1908.

8 Vintage Jefferson Nickel 5 Cent Coin Lot #69 (Sale Order 69 of 106) One of the most popular circulation coins the mint has ever produced is the Jefferson Nickel. These nickels were first produced in 1938 as a replacement for the Buffalo Nickel and they remain in production to this day. Nickels are commonly used by consumers and may often be found jingling in the pockets of people all across the country....... The Jefferson Nickel was first struck by the U.S. Mint in 1938 and was a replacement for the buffalo nickel. This nickel was used during wartime, from the years 1942-1945. During this time, the Jefferson Nickel was minted with silver in order to preserve nickel for the war effort. When the U.S. Mint began production of the Jefferson Nickel, the coin was produced at three separate facilities: Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. More than 30 million Jefferson Nickels were struck in 1938 and they were released into circulation on November 15th...of that year.... According to some accounts, the Jefferson Nickel was widely hoarded when it was first released. It is said that the coin was not widely seen in circulation until 1940, almost two years after it was first produced. Here is a group of 8 Jefferson Nickels struck in the year: 1953, 1952, 1951, 1949, 2 1948, 1942.......

This dime is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. The coin contains a total of just over .072 troy ounces of silver.... The Mercury Dime is also commonly referred to as the Winged Liberty Head Dime and was designed by Adolph Weinman. The coin got its common name from its reverse depiction of a young Liberty which was confused with the Roman god Mercury.... The coin was produced until 1945, at which time the Treasury ordered a new design featuring recently deceased President Franklin Roosevelt.... Rare 1866 Shield Nickel Lot #91 (Sale Order 91 of 106) The United States Mint can trace its history back to the early days of the United States itself. After the country was founded, the US government realized the need for unique coinage, and by 1793 the first US Mint building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was erected. This first facility was tasked with producing all of the country?s coinage, but before long was operating at full capacity, forcing there to be more mint facilities created. During the early years, the US Mint created coinage utilizing coin blanks from other parts of the world, but that practice was inevitably done away with. Having been in existence for more than 200 years, the US Mint has produced many coins that are nowadays highly valued in the eyes of collectors. One of those coins is known as the Shield Nickel, and is a 5-cent coin that was produced through the middle parts of the 19th century. The Shield Nickel is just one of many five-cent pieces produced by the US Mint, but is especially renowned simply because of the time period during which it was minted.... This lot includes One rare US five Cent coin minted in 1866.... Shield nickels are becoming more collectible every day.
