Historical, inscribed antique Colt SAA Revolver, .45 caliber, SN 134629, manufactured in 1890, 4 3/4

Historical, inscribed antique Colt SAA Revolver, .45 caliber, SN 134629, manufactured in 1890, 4 3/4" barrel, blue finish with rubber grips. The inscription on the backstrap reads "R.E. Doaty Co. E", (b. 1860, Refugio County, TX. d. 1892, Duval County, TX.). Research shows this Revolver once belonged to "Texas Ranger, PVT. R.E. Doaty, Co. E. Frontier Battalion". He enlisted March 1, 1892 and was killed 21 days later by Mexican bandits known as "The Garzistas" in Duval County, TX. The inscription is similar to factory inscriptions of the period and appears to have been on the gun since it was new. The revolver is a very nice example of a black powder SAA with traces of finish, a strong action and very good bore. The action functions correctly and the bore is better than expected. The barrel has the correct 2-line address and the frame has the correct 3-line patent dates. This info was gathered from the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, Waco, Texas. Fantastic, New York engraved, Colt SAA Revolver, .44-40 caliber, SN 51184, etched panel with carved snake & eagle ivory grips. This revolver is accompanied by a Colt Archive letter confirming the characteristics of the Colt as it left the factory as a .44-40 caliber, barrel length not listed, blue finish, grips not listed and shipped to J.P. Moores & Sons in New York on February 5, 1879 in a shipment of 50 guns. The remarks on the letter indicate the barrel length would have been 7 1/2" and the stocks would have been walnut as those were the standard features during this time period. It was common during this time period for retailers to pull a blue gun from inventory and send it to a local engraver to fill a customers order. The gun is beautifully engraved in a typical New York style pattern with Germanic scrolls and punch dot backgrounds. The engraving remains sharp and deep with very little wear. There is a significant amount of the period nickel remaining that was applied to the gun after engraving. The markings are all clear and well struck. The serial numbers match on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap with the last four digits on the cylinder. There is a very minor amount of pitting on the cylinder. The "Colt Frontier Six Shooter" etched panel is faint but all readable on the side of the barrel. The carved, ivory grips are in beautiful condition and slightly undersized to the grip frame. This is an outstanding gun that would be welcome in any advanced collection.

Full box of Winchester, Model 1873, Rifle Cartridges in .44 caliber. This is a highly collectible and desirable box with the green label in very good condition with corner missing a very small piece. The label color is very bright, the end labels are in good condition with one end of the lid detached but included. The side labels are in good condition with the image of the Winchester, Model 1873 very clear. This open box is full of WRAC head stamped cartridges. There is a very old price tag affixed to the bottom of the box. Collectors wish they could buy one for the price shown on this old label.

Scarce antique Winchester, 1894 Deluxe, Takedown Rifle with rapid taper barrel, .30 WCF caliber, SN 98498, 26" round barrel. This Winchester is a very scarce and desirable Model 1894 Deluxe, Takedown with pistol grip, checkered wood, extra light weight, 26" round barrel rifle in the popular .30 WCF otherwise known as .30-30. The extra light weight barrel is referred to as a pencil barrel by collectors. It is smaller in diameter at the muzzle than the magazine tube. The takedown mechanism is tight with no wiggle. The markings are all clear and sharp. The action is tight and the bore is very strong with minor roughness. There is a generous amount of original blue remaining on barrel and magazine tube and a small amount of blue remaining on the frame. The pistol grip, checkered stock fits perfectly with most of the original factory piano varnish remaining and normal bumps and bruises for a rifle that is 121 years old. The crescent butt plate fits properly and is in good condition. It has a folding rear tang sight, a two leaf rear sight and an elevated front blade sight, necessary because of the barrel taper. Made in 1897 this antique rifle comes with a Cody Museum Winchester letter of authenticity.

Antique Colt, SAA Revolver, .45 caliber, SN 31000 matches on the frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. It was manufactured in 1876 as a 7 1/2" barrel revolver. That is the only length Colt offered at that time so cowboys were left to make their own modifications. This barrel was shortened to 4 3/4" during its original period of use. It appears to have a factory nickel finish, although no letter has been requested from the Colt Archive Department. There are generous traces of nickel remaining. It has a nice pair of ivory grips that fit well and have age that matches the gun. It has the correct block style address and 2-line patent dates that are clear and readable. The ".45 CAL" is faintly marked on the left rear trigger guard flat.

ATTENTION COLLECTORS OF FINE GOLD INLAID COLTS: Beautiful Colt, SAA Revolver, .45 caliber, SN 340906, 1st generation, manufactured 1920, 7 1/2" barrel. This Revolver was engraved by well known Texas Master Engraver, David Wade Harris. It has been masterfully scroll engraved and gold inlaid on the barrel, frame, cylinder and backstrap. The two piece medallion ivory grips fit perfectly and look wonderful with the full blue finish and gold accents. All of the factory applied markings remain crisp and clear. The action functions perfectly and the bore has some roughness commensurate with the age. The gun comes with a letter from the Texas engraver, David Wade Harris. Mr. Harris used many engraving patterns that are similar to factory patterns in this engraving. (MOD)

ATTENTION TEXANA COLLECTORS, FROM THE ESTATE OF THE LATE BOB DAVIS, WACO AND TEXAS HISTORIAN. Historic early Percussion Rifle, originally belonging to John Sutherland Menefee, with letter stating that he carried this Rifle at the Battle Of San Jacinto, April 21, 1836 and was on exhibit at the San Jacinto Museum, Harris County, LaPorte, Texas. Rifle has a 41" octagon barrel, approximately .50 caliber, lock is marked "T.P. Moore", has brass trigger guard, short stock with spring loaded brass cap box cover. Cap box cover is (possibly) marked "W. Hinton" on right side, brass deer on left side. Also a letter, where it is noted repair to stock, letter is dated 9/10/1963. After further inspection, this exact Rifle was found as item 341 in Bob's Ledger, see photograph. Bob stated "This is one of the best items in my collection". We believe this cash register was possibly part of the "Alamo Drug Store" owned by Adolph Dreiss, established 1877, located on Alamo St. / Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, TX. This register is unique in many ways, it is factory stamped in a flat area above the keys "Soda, Candy, Cigars", when dust cover is lifted, it is marked again "Soda, Candy. Cigars". It is a size 9 with factory number "624946", and has its original Amount of Purchase Marquee, manufactured 4/15/1908. Register measures 19 1/4" W x 15 1/2" D x 22" T. Provenance: Originally from the Clayton Spence Cash Register Collection.

Antique Colt, SAA Revolver, .41 caliber, SN 129713 matches on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. This Colt was manufactured in 1889 when the west was still wild and woolly. It is a nice, honest old Colt that was used but not abused. It has a 4 3/4" barrel and was originally blue finish although it has turned to a pleasing chocolate brown. The stag grips look great and have probably been on it for a long time. The action functions well, the markings are all clear and the bore is better than expected. The barrel has the correct 2-line address and the frame has the 3-line patent dates. This sure has the look of an old cowboy gun.

Colt, First Generation, SAA Revolver, .38 SPL caliber, SN 338263, 7 1/2" barrel, manufactured in 1920. This Revolver has been engraved and embellished by Master Engraver, Frank E. Hendricks' Shop. Mr. Hendricks wrote a letter in 2003 that accompanies this Colt. In it he explains that his shop has engraved many Texas Ranger and YO Ranch Commemorative guns. The revolver came to them in 1976 to be finished out exactly like a Texas Ranger Commemorative Colt and was returned to the owner in 1977. The revolver has a great bore, tight action and doesn't appear to have been fired since the work was completed in 1977. It has beautiful scroll engraving with a Texas star wreath on the backstrap. The ivory grips have a miniature Texas Rangers badge set on to the left side. A beautiful specially ordered Colt. (MOD)

Extremely rare Barb Wire Walking Stick Cane, 36" L, circa 1875, with brass clover leaf medallion in prongs in top of handle that reads "Compliments of J. Haish "S" Barb, Steel Fence Wire, DeKalb, ILL.". Jacob Haish, descended from Germany (1826-1926), immigrated to U.S. with his family in 1835. He is an icon in DeKalb since he was one of three original inventors of Barb Wire. He received his first patent January 20, 1874, the other two are Isaac Ellwood and Joseph Glidden. Haish had patented three styles of Barb Wire fencing by June of 1874. He received the patent for his "S" Barb design in August 1875. The invention of Barb Wire changed the history of the United States, making settlement possible in the frontier.

Factory letter confirms it was shipped to H&D Folsom, New York along with 15 other guns on November 1, 1877. This is a chance to own a nice example of a Colt that is a hard configuration to find. Serial number 1071 matches on the frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder. The barrel has been shortened to 5 3/4", the action functions properly and all markings are clear and easily readable. It has the correct block letter barrel address and the earliest 2-line, 2-date frame marking. The Colt is fitted with an outstanding pair of well aged ivory grips with beautiful texture, grain and color. Many advanced collectors do not have an original Rimfire Colt in their collection.

This one of a kind mahogany box has the original velvet top used as a Card Table on trains and coaches as a playing surface while traveling, backed by early silk and cotton material with stars, also serves as Domino top with raised border. When top is lifted off box a 15" mahogany Roulette Wheel is revealed on one side, made by "Honest Injun, Custom Made To Order Gambling Items, Designed & Distributed, Standard Trademark, Pittsburg, PA." Opposite side is the hand made & painted wooden Layout. Underneath the layout is a fitted section which contains: Vintage Poker Chips; Hand made Dominos; Leather Dice Cup; Celluloid Dice Cup; two "Pass the Buck" Poker Markers; two Decks of Great Mogul Cards; and Cribbage Board. This is a great looking first generation Colt with a set of extremely thick, snake & eagle carved, one piece ivory grips. The nickel was applied many years ago and has more than 90% remaining. The serial number matches on the frame and trigger guard and indicates the year of manufacture to be 1877. There is no caliber marking or backstrap number visible. The action functions correctly and the bore is good with some roughness. The 3-line patent dates are clear and sharp. The barrel address is a very scarce factory error that has been rolled on backwards reading from breech to muzzle. Very unusual!

The Kepplinger Holdout, named for its inventor, reached from a mans forearm to his shoulders and down to his knees. Worn inside the ching, this contraption adjusted to any girth and height. To activate the Holdout, the cheater had only to spread his knees slightly and a claw like "sneak" secreted between the two layers of a special double shirt sleeve, moved toward his hand. A professional magician of Kepplinger's day called the invention "the most ingenious holdout ever devised". The Holdout has been professionally laid out on board for display and to show how it was used.

Accompanied by a Colt Archive Letter that confirms serial number 330994 as a .45 caliber, 4 3/4" barrel, blue finish revolver with the grips not listed. The archive record lists special features as "Furnished with a double action cylinder of long flute configuration" and shows it originally shipped to Phelps Dodge Mercantile Company in Douglas, Arizona on July 14, 1914. With less than 1500 revolvers made by Colt in this configuration, collectors search high and low for a long flute to add to their collection. The Arizona shipment adds considerably to its collectability. This numbers matching Colt has a high percentage of original blue and case hardened finish. The one piece ivory grips are slightly undersized but have great color and look great on this nice old Colt. The action functions properly, the lock up is strong and the bore is excellent. All factory applied markings are strong and clear. The barrel has the correct 2-line address and the frame has the 2-line, 3-date, patent dates. (MOD)

Without a doubt one of the most unusual push-type weapons is the "One-Eyed Jacques." The 1885 laws which banned the Bowie Knife, made this Push Dagger a favorite in New Orleans, where they were made. The hand carved hilt is fashioned after a killer Alligator of the same name who allegedly dined on some 13 persons, of whom the second victim managed to gouge out an eye before he succumbed. The sheath is fashioned after the popular "cheroot" and truly adds to the uniqueness of this weapon.

Antique Colt, SAA Revolver, .45 caliber, SN 68749, 7 1/2" barrel, nickel plated with walnut grips, manufactured 1881. The serial numbers match on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap with the last 4 digits on the cylinder. It retains a very high percentage of the period nickel finish, hammer is case hardened. The 3-line patent dates and ".45 CAL" on the trigger guard are sharp and clear. The barrel address is partially obscured by fine pitting that also shows on the ejector housing and cylinder. The walnut grips fit well and may be original. A lanyard ring has been added to the butt, likely when the gun was originally purchased. The barrel has the correct address and the frame has the proper 3-line patent dates.

(2) Deputy Sheriff, Arizona, Skull Valley Badge, circle with 5-point star, 2" Dia. These badges were purchased in 1970 from Rose Tree Inn Museum and Antique Shop, Tucson, AZ., with letter from Burton Devere. This letter states these two badges are authentic and that Tombstone was the County Seat of Cochise County, formed in 1881-1931. These badges will be accompanied by the letter and envelope which contains the information shown here. Badge (1) is accompanied by a letter dated November 2004 from the office of the Sheriff, Cochise County, Bisbee, AZ. and is signed by Commander Rodney W. Rothrock. This letter states that information received from an associate, Mr. Tim Fattig, a western historian and published author who happens to reside in Tombstone. According to Mr. Fattig the records show the following personnel were appointed as deputies: (1) John B Ludwig, March 12, 1881 for Contention. (2) J.H. Sprerry, March 1881 for Ramsey Canyon. (3) Breckenridge and Stillwell, April 5, 1881 for Tombstone and Bisbee. (4) Lance Perkins, late April 1881. Also appointed, but with no immediate dates on hand were Bell for Charleston and Harlan for Benson. Mr. Fattig also pointed out that John Behan's Chief Deputy, Harry Woods may also be considered the "First Deputy" and he assumed the position the same day that John Behan became sheriff. Handsome, early Civil War Era Henry Rifle, .44 caliber, SN 7845, 24" barrel, manufactured in the latter part of 1864 when the Civil War was perhaps at its peak. This rifle survived better than many rifles of that period. The barrel markings "HENRY'S PATENT OCTOBER 16, 1860, MANUFACT'D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CT." are sharp and clear. The serial number 7845 is properly marked on the top of the barrel near the frame. It has the correct ladder rear sight and front blade. The brass frame has a mellow natural patina and elevator has a variety of peck marks on it. This Henry has factory sling swivels on the barrel and butt stock, it even has the correct 4 piece cleaning rod in the storage compartment of the butt stock. The wood has shrunken slightly over the years but is in good condition with normal bumps and dings. The action works properly and the bore is in very good condition. A true classic worthy of any Winchester or Civil War collection.

Great Winchester, 1886 Rifle in .45-70 caliber, SN 129628, manufactured in 1905, 26" octagonal barrel with sharp clear markings and a generous amount of original blue finish on it and the magazine tube. The bore is very nice and clean with strong lands and grooves, no corrosion. The rear sight is a standard buckhorn and the front is a standard blade. The frame has most of its original blue finish, the wood is original, fits well and has the normal bumps and dings from 113 years of use. It has factory sling mounts on the fore end cap and rear stock. The stock has a shotgun butt with a small chip in the rubber plate. This is a very collectible and shootable Winchester rifle. (MOD)

On the next page is written, " This book was with the regiment in all battles of the war, except the 1st one at Bull Run. Presented to the S.S. by W.A. Foss". This book measures 4" x 6". All pages seem to be present, spine has bit of binding missing, otherwise good condition for its age.

An outstanding example, it retains nearly all of the original bright blue finish. The frame has a very slight amount of finish missing. The lever has bright vivid case colors. The markings are all crisp and clear, the wood fits perfectly and is in excellent condition. The action functions flawlessly. Even the butt plate retains a high percentage of the blue finish. Actual horse hair mane is still attached to horse hide. We believed this horse to be made by an early Tin Smith. Metal and composition frame of horse is covered in plaster, mounted on an early wooden base that at one time was mounted with cast iron rollers that are no longer with it. Image is weak with only discernable feature being his face. However, case is Great; tight hinges, high relief decorated front and rear, 3 5/16" x 3 3/4". (2) 1/6-plate Tintype in thermo plastic case with tight hinges and latch. Image shows a young boy in white, probably dressed for his First Communion or other religious event, he has a rosette pinned to his chest, with a gem sized image of another youth. Case has a burgundy color felt pad that is somewhat loose. Case has a nice relief geometric design to both sides. (3) Double cased, 1/9-plate Ambrotypes of ______and Elliott Ware, born January 1851. Names are penciled and scratched on reverse of each. Both are housed in a thermo-plastic case, 3" x 4 3/4". Case has tight hinges and functional latch with intact burgundy color velvet pad. Top has a high relief motif of woman and child holding a cat & dog, edges have minor chipping.
