WRIGHT RECLINING NUDE OIL PAINTING Lot #235 (Sale Order 235 of 250) (American Utah 1875 - 1952) Very rare oil on canvas painting by this highly sought after Utah artist, Alma Brockerman Wright, depicting a reclining sleeping female nude on a day bed. Signed & Dated 'A. B. Wright 37' upper right. SIZE: 20 x 35" overall 30" x 43" Housed in gilt wood frame. CONDITION: Very good, may be have been professionally cleaned at some point, frame shows some scuffs & abrasions, not examined out of frame. He ended up having to to leave Utah after a big scandal: an indiscretion with one of his married female models. He returned to France and alas was captured by the Germans and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. At the end of WWII he returned to France. Regardless of all his troubles, Wright left a huge legacy of works influenced by fauvism and French modernism as in this beautiful nude painting.
