The hardhat has rocket stickers on the back for various early flights including MA-5, MA-6, MA-7, MA-8, a Saturn launch, three Lunar Orbiter launches and a Centaur launch. An early 1960's vintage bronze Mercury spacecraft bank with a coin slot at the top and a keyed entry at on the bottom. Excellent detail on the spacecraft. It measures 4½" tall and is 4" diameter at the base. The metal plate on the bottom has rusted a bit, but the bronze is like new - no dents or significant scratches that I can see. Uncommon. A beautiful hardbound "Big Joe" Mercury heat shield performance report from NASA and written by the Space Task Group at Langley (TM X-490). The Technical Memorandum inside is dated May 1961 and consists of 62 pages of flight information and graphs. It is in almost perfect condition. A NASA News Reference. "Big Joe" was a 1959 test of the Mercury heat shield characteristics using a boilerplate Mercury capsule mated to an Atlas rocket. The full title of the book is Heat-Shield Performance During Atmospheric Entry Of Project Mercury Research and Development Vehicle "Big Joe'. ESTIMATED VALUE: $75-$100

Mercury Spacecraft Topping, Inc. Model, Weighted

Vintage Topping, Inc. Mercury spacecraft model measuring 5" in height and about 4" diameter at the bottom. Weighted nicely at the bottom for great stability. Due to this weight, however, it has been dropped in the past and cracked a portion of the bottom rim - not all the way around the base though. With the right adhesive, it can be repaired almost seamlessly since the crack can be pressed back together easily. No where on the model is the Topping name, but it can be seen in an early 1960-61 Topping catalog (pictured). The catalog is not part of this auction. A rarely seen Topping model. Excellent condition besides the crack. ESTIMATED VALUE: $300-$400

Original Gemini-era visor and helmet wipes used for cleaning optical areas that were used in the Gemini Mission Simulator at the MCC in Cape Canaveral. There are five total wipes and each one is over 3" long and individually wrapped. To simulate a true space flight, all items that were to have been taken in the Gemini spacecraft into orbit were also placed into the spacecraft simulator to insure a realistic environment, including these visor wipes. Early Lunar Module Docking Window

An early prototype Lunar Module docking window of the type used in the two unmanned Lunar Modules, LM-1 and LM-2. The window itself measures 6"x 16" and including the housing it measures 11½"x 20", and weighs about 5 pounds. The fourth photo, a photo of the LM-2 interior (presently at the Smithsonian), has been provided showing the docking window at the upper left of the photo. The one for auction was apparently a spare for LM-1 or LM-2. The fifth photo shows the docking window in a 1967 LM mockup, with the same graduated lines as the auction item (reflection is probably the cause of two graduated lines showing up in the photo). The third photo of the window I provided is the same as the second, except that I put in a dark backing underneath so the graduations on the window could be seen. A great example of early Lunar Module hardware, and since little or no LM hardware ever made it back to Earth, quite rare. It serial number is: LDW280-10283-5-4, Corning S/N 1298. Recovered from the Ransom Road depository at KSC over 40 years ago. ESTIMATED VALUE: $1500-$2000

Wooden Handmade Apollo Clock

A handmade heavy wooden Apollo program clock with 12 inset Apollo mission medallions representing the numbers on a clock. The Apollo 11 medallion is missing but can be replaced. The hour and minute hands are thin metal Saturn V rockets - one a bit larger than the other. The clock is 13½" in diameter and 3/4" thick and is made of one-piece construction, including the orbit rings. The inscription on the back of the clock is dated 1973 - the year in which this clock was given away for Father's Day. Two wooden orbit rings circle an engraved lunar surface with Apollo landing sites marked. When new batteries are installed, the clock runs for only a couple minutes before stopping; however, the mechanism may just need a good cleaning. The clock mechanism can just as easily be replaced as well. Excellent condition and extremely attractive. ESTIMATED VALUE: $150-$200

A vintage SA-5 Saturn I Countdown Manual from the KSC Launch Operations Center and NASA. It is dated January 16, 1964 and consists of 80 pages of launch procedures, information and countdowns, along with an SA-5 Launch Countdown bar graph. SA-5 was launched January 29, 1964 with a live second stage, an instrument unit and a ballasted Jupiter nose cone and was an orbital test of the S-IV second stage. Somewhat heavily annotated by the original owner who was an SA-5 countdown engineer. Worn a bit around the edges from use and vertically creased on the front cover, but otherwise good shape and complete. Uncommon item of an early Saturn test. ESTIMATED VALUE: $150-$200

Signing are Schirra and Cunningham (Apollo 7), Borman (Apollo 8), McDivitt and Schweickart (Apollo 9), Stafford (Apollo 10), Aldrin and Collins (Apollo 11), Conrad, Bean and Gordon (Apollo 12), Lovell and Haise (Apollo 13), Shepard, Roosa and Mitchell (Apollo 14), Scott and Worden (Apollo 15), Duke (Apollo 16) and Schmitt (Apollo 17). Temporary Mission Decals (TMD) - TMD's were never issued permanently to an individual but were one day badges for access to the launch vehicle only (excluding the White Room). To obtain a TMD for work on the engine, for instance, a person must go to the Firing Room, in which case some sort of Firing Room Access badge was needed, pick up a TMD, and return it when the work was done. NASA and all contractors who had responsibilities on the vehicle had TMDs's to give out when necessary. Once the launch took place, the TMD's were kept as souvenirs. ESTIMATED VALUE: $50-$75

It has 10 separate sections with some of the section headings being Performance, S-II Stage, S-IVB Stage, Mission Control Monitoring, Mission Variables, General Description, etc. Top right section cut out of front cover, and the back cover is missing a smaller piece on its left edge and a cutout section at the top. A beautiful Lucite display containing an embedded piece of flown Kapton foil from the Apollo 11 command module 'Columbia'. The display was made in conjunction with noted space authority Ken Havekotte, the owner of Space Coast Cover Service. The Kapton foil is approximately ½"x ½" in size and the lucite itself is 2½" diameter at the base and 2-3/4" tall. Only 50 of these lucites were produced, and this is number 34 of 50. The beta patch design was made, in part, using pigments supplied by Roma Chemical and it is attached to a sheet of 8½"x 11" thick paper stock folded over the top to display the company information. The 8½"x 9" beta cloth patch is stapled to the paper at the bottom only (the two staple holes at the top are missing). Apollo 11 Landing Site Relief Map, Guenter Wendt

A 15"x 21" plastic high relief lunar map showing the area for the Landing Site #3 which was one of the ones proposed for Apollo 11. Landing Site #2 was eventually chosen for Apollo 11. This relief map is a portion of NASA's precise lunar topographical model which was an integral part of the Lunar Module Simulator. From the personal collection of Pad Leader Guenter Wendt, and he has signed at the bottom stating that it was from his personal collection. A bit of age spotting at the top and bottom edges of the relief portion, but can be easily cleaned, and there is a slight indentation near the top edge (didn't see it the first few times I looked). Otherwise excellent condition with no other bends, tears or scratches. ESTIMATED VALUE: $400-$500

Apollo 11 Lunar Training Chart - Large Circular Map

A vintage Apollo 11 lunar chart made from a montage of lunar surface photographs. Printed on the map is "Apollo 11 July 16, 1969". The map is 10½" wide by 150" long (12½ feet long) and is attached at the two ends to give it an endless, circular nature. The map shows the track across the lunar surface of the Apollo 11 CSM for revolutions 12 and 28 (landing opportunity revolutions I presume), and marks probably a couple hundred landmark craters and navigation points. The map also shows the proposed landing sites for the Eagle including Site 1, Site 2, Site 3 and Landing Site 4 (Site 2 was chosen). The lunar farside and nearside terminators are indicated along with many of the landing sites of the Surveyor spacecrafts - Surveyor V near Site 2, Surveyor VI near Site 3, Surveyor III which Apollo 12 targeted and Surveyor I. This map was for training purposes and was developed by the Flight Planning Branch at MSC Houston. I obtained this map many years ago from the head of the Flight Planning Branch, George Colton, whose name can be seen on the signatory page of the Apollo 11 Flight Plan (see the scan provided). In fact, above the "Apollo 11" printing on the map is written in red marker " Colton Master" and again on the reverse side. Mr. Colton also has annotated many parts of the map. These were not available to the public and it is quite rare. Nice shape. ESTIMATED VALUE: $750-$1000

Since there was only one original letter for 12 pendants, a copy of the original letter was given to the recipients at the time, and this is one of them. A Silver Snoopy Award flown aboard Apollo 16 with its original paperwork and folder. A letter on NASA letterhead from Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke is enclosed in a blue Award Presentation Program folder and awards the pin to an RCA employee. The letter is signed at the bottom with an authentic signature by Duke, and is dated 10 May 1972, two weeks afer the return of the Apollo 16 spacecraft. The letter does not specifically state that the Snoopy pin was flown aboard Apollo 16, but no other conclusion can be logically be reached, since all Silver Snoopys were flown, the letter is dated just after the Apollo 16 mission and it is signed by an Apollo 16 astronaut. The letter is in near mint condition, but the folder has some spotting on the front cover, but otherwise nice shape. Also, the pin is in excellent condition but probably needs light cleaning or a dip in silver cleaner. Very small "United Feature Syndicate" stamped on the back. Apollo-flown Silver Snoopy awards are uncommon with all their paperwork. ESTIMATED VALUE: $800-$1000

The manual states on the front that it is Not For Flight. It is 5"x 7" in size with 10 tabs covering almost 70 pages of flight procedures and instructions for spacecraft docking, undocking and orientation. When opened, the right half is written in Russian and the left half in English. Slayton's name is on the front cover, and he has also annotated a few pages inside. Used condition but still nice shape. Comes with a certificate signed by his wife, Bobbie Slayton, attesting to the fact that this manual was Deke's. ESTIMATED VALUE: $1000-$1500

Deke Slayton’s “Edwards Approach Charts / ALT” 3-ring 6”x 8” manual containing 22 color fold out maps (plus 1 vintage photocopy map) showing what appear to be flight path options and/or abort profiles related to the Space Shuttle Enterprise Approach and Landing Tests. The maps are dated 1976 and 1977 and reference Free Flights 1 thru 8 (the actual program having been completed following the success of Free-Flight 5). The reverse of one map for FF-5 is marked “Slayton” in red pencil. The manual also contains a flight information card, a fold out map of the Air Force Flight Test Center, and a heavier stock Edwards Complex map showing the various runways (with notations in blue pen). A large 7½"x 13½" US flag and mission emblem patch both flown aboard STS-1 and mounted and framed on a 20"x 24" matted board and frame. Presented to Paul Donnelly. the NASA Test Conductor and Manager for Mercury through Apollo. Signed under the flag by the STS-1 crew of Young and Crippen, although the signatures are faded quite a bit. This US flag is the biggest I have seen flown on this flight, and are certainly quite rare to have been flown this size. The board reads in part, "This flag and crew patch were flown aboard the Space Shuttle 'Columbia' (STS-1) April 12-14, 1981." ESTIMATED VALUE: $1000-$1500

Dick Scobee's Daily Flight Suit

A NASA daily flight suit belonging to STS-51L Challenger Commander Francis 'Dick' Scobee. This jumpsuit was given by Scobee to a high-ranking NASA employee who worked in the Astronaut Crew Quarters at that time, and did so for almost 20 years. Astronauts are given many flight suits for use, and some are used more than others, and Scobee, who liked wearing relatively tattered ones better, gave this one away. The flight suit has no velcro name tag or any patches sewn on. This flight suit comes with a certificate from the Crew Quarters employee who obtained the item from Scobee. At this person's request, dating from ten years ago when I obtained this item, their name and signature have been electronically blotted out for this auction. Excellent condition. LC-36B Atlas Liquid Oxygen First Stage Cabinet

A full Liquid Oxygen Tanking First Stage cabinet removed from Launch Complex 36B in August 2005. This was the original cabinet installed in 1962 (with some indicator modifications in later years) and removed from service 43 years later. It was used for 76 Atlas/Centaur launches during its years of service. It comes with a pullout work drawer with a lift up top for storage. The power supply, which weighs over 100 pounds by itself, has been removed and was probably reused, as was the headset/communication panel just above the drawer. This cabinet is of all metal construction and weighs approximately 200 - 300 pounds. It is 5 feet high, 2 feet wide and 2 feet 2 inches deep. A few of the old analog meters were replaced with digital readouts over the years, but all else looks to be original equipment. It can be wired up so that the lights and switches will function for display purposes. Worst case shipping will be $400 for 300 pounds (it doesn't weigh that much) from Orlando to San Francisco.
