Rare WW1 USN Aerial Photographer/Enlisted Aviator Insignia Grouping-Named Lot #143 (Sale Order 150 of 179) Named to Alfred Dunn. Dunn was one of only a handful of servicemen qualified as a Long Distance Horizon Photographer and most were in the USN. Dunn was "loaned" to the US Army Air Service and was sent to France to serve with an Army Observation Squadron. He would have worn an enlisted Army uniform but with USN collar discs. While in France Dunn qualified as an enlisted aviator. This grouping includes his miniature discharge, USN collar discs, Aerial Photographer wing, enlisted aviator wing and a round patch with bullion 4 prop propeller with wings on dark navy wool. All insignia appears to be French Theater made. The photographer 1/2 wings have been uniform removed. The USN collar discs don't appear to be made from a coin as they are marked on the reverse "FIX" and "PARIS". Both wings have no reaction to UV lighting. The round patch reacts just slightly on the white on the reverse. We believe these items to be period but please bid based on your own knowledge, expertise and/or research.
