The 1st V8 Corvette powered Special built! The Poster Car for the 1954 Torrey Pines race Extensive West Coast Race History Jim Culbert of CAE Automotive consulted with Carroll Shelby on the chassis design. Jim Nelson was the engine builder Dean Meltzer hand formed the body Johnny Wright built the car Binder full of photos, history and documents included. The story of the Wright Special starts in 1952 when Gene Kopecky took a prewar Maserati that competed in the Indy 500 and modified the chassis to become a Hemi powered sports car with an aluminum body. The car was not successful, but it was striking enough to be the poster car for the Torrey Pines race in 1954. Johnny Wright purchased the body in 1954. Wright had master chassis builder Jim Culbert (C.A.E.) construct a frame that was far ahead of its time in terms of rigidity and safety without being heavy. The large 3' tubing was sourced by Carroll Shelby who consulted on the project and it is speculated that this car inspired the Cobra. The body was taken to Dean Meltzer for modification and fitted with a modified Lincoln flathead which was completed in 1956. Wright acquired a new '56 Corvette dual quad 265 c.i. V8 and speeds on the dry lakes went from 93 mph to 136 mph. In late 1956 Wright obtained a new for '57 283 cu, in. block and modified it with a custom crank, rods and cam along with 6 Stromberg carburetors to create a 331 cu. in. engine making over 350 hp. Timing tags from June 1957 indicate a top speed of 143.6 mph. In 1959 117 mph in the standing 1/4 mile was recorded. The car has been restored to the way it looked in Hot Rod magazine in August 1960.

The Sunbeam Tiger is a high- performance V8 version of the British Rootes Group's Sunbeam Alpine Roadster. They were only made from 1964 - 1967. With the sale of the Rootes Group Sunbeam Alpine positioned as a fine touring automobile, Southern California Sunbeam-Talbot sales manager, Ian Garrad, needed to offer a product more suited for sports car enthusiasts. Efforts to build a car that could attract these young, performance minded individuals went to successful design and performance team of Shelby America. It was already well known that they could shoe-horn V8 horsepower into just about anything you asked them to, so the Ford 260ci V8 was selected for its size and ample power output. It was tucked into the small English chassis with only a "few" refinements to the engine bay and firewall, and a "Baby Cobra" was born with the official name, Sunbeam Tiger! Ford powered 260ci V8 engine mated to the Borg Warner T10 4-speed manual transmission with a 2.88 rear end! The power of the Ford V8 coupled with many performance options offered by Rootes and the direction, design and influence of Carroll Shelby, makes the Sunbeam Tiger sought today from all four corners of the globe as one of Hemming's top 10 collectible vehicles. The top of the line Buick Roadmaster answered the call, In 1954 it was again restyled and this year it shared the chassis with the larger Cadillac 62 and Oldsmobile 98 series cars. Convertibles were popular and available in almost every line of cars built by GM. The 3,521.00 price tag of the Roadmaster convertibles did not deter sales, and was the second most prolific convertible sold through Buick Dealerships totaling 3,305 units. The traditional Buick straight-eight engine had been eliminated in favor of an all new V-8 design, and behind their infamous four fender ventiports, the mighty Roadmaster’s 322 cid engine produced a stout 200hp. We have a pristine fully restored 1961 300G that has the appearance of just rolling off the assembly line. This one of only a few hundred that were ever produced. This 300G originally came from California before finding its way to Missouri and ultimately to Texas, where it entered the esteemed collection of Wayne Davis. Mr. Davis parted with this 300 in 2008 and since then it has been meticulously maintained. After sitting in a garage for many years, the engine and transmission were rebuilt, and the car was subjected to a complete body-off restoration. Complete with the correct hoses, clamps, and hardware, the engine compartment was not only properly restored but also remains well detailed, which is generally the case for the undercarriage as well. • 1 of only 12 Built • This is #12 • Built to honor Niki Lauda • Original Condition • Never been started or driven • Includes all original manuals This 1977 1/2 scale Ferrari 312T2 was built to honor Niki Lauda's heroic effort towards winning the 1976 world championship. The subject of the film "Rush" portrayed the seemingly impossible comeback after a fiery crash at the Nurburgring that year saw Laudacome within a point of winning the 76 title. Only 12 of the intended 100 cars were built by the Bologna, Italy firm ITALYCAR before Ferrari and Niki Lauda filed a lawsuit causing the end of production. These were made available through select Ferrari dealerships worldwide at a cost of $6995 USD in 1977. These miniature 312T2 F1 cars were true to form. They featured a 2 cylinder 2 stroke BCC engine and a 2 speed transmission with reverse. Independent suspension, adjustable sway bars and coil overs were configured exactly as the Grand Prix cars. Hydraulic disc brakes and big Goodyear slicks along with Veglia gauges and a MOMO steering wheel were all 1/2 scale to the real 312T2. This example is the 12th and last unit built. It remains as new. It's never been started or driven. It is 100% original and includes the original manuals and bill of sale.
