The Reub Long Ranch originally included the world famous Fort Rock Cave where, in 1938, archeologist Luther Cressman discovered dozens of old sagebrush sandals that dated to more than 9000 years old. Reub Long was an Oregon legend as an Eastern Oregon rancher and cowboy philosopher. He co-authored the classic book “The Oregon Desert” with E.R. Jackman in 1964. 5/8" heavily patinated Button. Columbia River. Lot #250 (Sale Order 249 of 274) Phoenix Button. Heavily patinated Button found by Dewey Schmid on the mid-Columbia. No. 14 Phoenix Button, small disc type which measures 5/8", style #2. Phoenix Buttons were made in Britain for King Christophe of Haiti. These military buttons were brought to the Columbia River as trade goods before 1835 by Boston merchant Nathaniel Wyeth. This button was found by Dewey prior to 1955. Dewey was a member of the old Oregon Archeological Society.

The slight restriction of the handle is identical to some of the wealth blades from Gold Hill, Jackson County Oregon that were found in the 1964 flood.
