**Star Note 1957 $1 Blue Seal Silver Certificate Grades xf+. When notes are discovered that have been printed incorrectly (such as having the serial numbers upside down, etc.) the misprinted "error notes" are replaced with star notes because no two bills within a certain series can be produced with the same serial number. They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run. By their nature, star notes are more scarce than notes with standard serial numbers and as such are widely collected by numismatists. Some of the highest prices paid for modern (post-1928) U.S. banknotes have been for star notes. The note itself is a Silver Certificate. They were redeemable in Silver. One of their most distinctive qualities is the blue Treasury seal and serial numbers. These notes include an additional legend printed on the face that is not present on any other Federal Reserve notes. The legend states that Silver had been deposited in the Treasury and was payable on demand to the note’s bearer.

1965 Special Mint Half Set P Mint SMS original cellophane. In 1964, just when the mint was removing 90% silver coins from circulation, and the U.S. was having a coin shortage, the Mint announced that beginning in 1965, no Proof Sets, or Mint Sets would be produced, Instead they would be making a Special Mint Set. Special Mint Set coins were not proofs, and were not uncirculated, Mint State pieces. Dies for the coins were over polished, while the planchet themselves were not polished. The resulting SMS coins have a brilliant, proof like appearance, much nicer than the run-of-the-mill circulation coins. In 1965 these sets were released in the Traditional Mint Cellophane and White Envelope. This set does not have the envelope. Note, the set contains a 40% Half Dollar. 'P' Mint only.

This note features the familiar portrait of Alexander Hamilton that was used on all of our $10 bills through 1999, and the back shows the US Treasury. This note does not have the familiar "In God We Trust" motto above the US Treasury, though, as that motto was not added until 1957. The Blue Seal is large and at right; a large blue "10" dominates the left side of the note.

Some $5 silver certificates are very popular and valuable. Small size five dollar silver certificates were issued for 1934, 1934A, 1934B, 1934C, and 1934D. The 1953 $5 silver certificate looks very similar to the earlier 1934 issues except that the “5” on the left hand side of the note is in blue, and the seal on the right hand side is smaller.

This note features the familiar portrait of Abraham Lincoln that was used on all of our $5 bills through 1999, and the back shows the Lincoln Memorial. This note does not have the familiar "In God We Trust" motto above the Memorial, though, as that motto was not added until 1957. The Blue Seal is large and at right; a large blue "5" dominates the left side of the note.

We have been getting excellent feedback on these rolls. People seem very pleased with them. They are a nice mixture of 1800's and 1900's. Some better dates. These shotgun rolls are all from a new consignee. They are all frrom one Estate. A difficult to find original roll. This particular Roll shows an 1889 on one end.

Occasionally, Coins are seen with a Rim Indentation Near the Periphery on Each Side; this is a Mint Caused Problem and Should Not Be Factored Into the Grade. Luster is usually pretty good on this issue with a semi-frosty/satiny look.

They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run. Some of the highest prices paid for modern (post-1928) U.S. banknotes have been for star notes. The note itself is a Silver Certificate. They were redeemable in Silver. This note does not have the familiar "In God We Trust" motto above the Memorial, though, as that motto was not added until 1957. 2008 United States Mint Silver Proof Set - 14 Pieces - Extremely low mintage, hard to find. Many people ask why the 2008 set is so much higher priced than the other near dates. It had a slightly lower mintage, but not drastically. Well I just researched this as I too was very curious and here is the answer. The mint shut down sales of the set in June, 5 months earlier than usual and although the mintage of 1.5 million pieces seems near par with the 2-3 million pieces of other near dates, with the mint shutting down sales and many folks who were collecting the whole series, (this was the final piece to the 50 state quarter series) getting shut out, they immediately went to the secondary market. But most of the 1.5 million sold by the mint went to collectors who bought them to keep and did not sell them into the secondary market. So you basically had a shortage of about 1/2 to 1 million sets below demand. The Set contains 5 90% Silver Proof Quarters, a 90% Silver Proof Kennedy Half Dollar, a 90% Silver Proof Roosevelt Dime, 4 Proof Presidential Dollars Including the Inaugural first 4, Washington through Madison, as well as 3 additional Proof coins Including the Sacagawea Proof Dollar coin. The roll is held in an old, rare and collectible Coca-Cola wrapper. Actual roll pictured is the roll you will get. A great bank shotgun roll of Indian cents 1c with very tight ends. We have been getting excellent feedback on these rolls. People seem very pleased with them. They are a nice mixture of 1800's and 1900's. Some better dates. These shotgun rolls are all from a new consignee. They are all frrom one Estate. A difficult to find original roll. This particular Roll shows an 1882 on one end.

**Star Note 1957B $1 Blue Seal Silver Certificate Grades vf++. When notes are discovered that have been printed incorrectly (such as having the serial numbers upside down, etc.) the misprinted "error notes" are replaced with star notes because no two bills within a certain series can be produced with the same serial number. They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run. By their nature, star notes are more scarce than notes with standard serial numbers and as such are widely collected by numismatists. Some of the highest prices paid for modern (post-1928) U.S. banknotes have been for star notes. The note itself is a Silver Certificate. They were redeemable in Silver. One of their most distinctive qualities is the blue Treasury seal and serial numbers. These notes include an additional legend printed on the face that is not present on any other Federal Reserve notes. The legend states that Silver had been deposited in the Treasury and was payable on demand to the note’s bearer.

***Auction Highlight*** 1837 Feuchtwanger Hard Times Token 1c Graded Choice Unc by USCG. The Feuchtwanger Cent was a "German Silver" private token coin circulated by Lewis Feuchtwanger during the 1830-1840s in the U.S. The tokens were originally created as patterns to demonstrate a new type of metal for coinage, however when these proposals failed, they were temporarily used by the public during depressions to accommodate a small change shortage. In 1837, to alleviate the need for small change during the Hard Times, Feuchtwanger created tokens made of argentan (commonly known as German Silver), an alloy made of copper, nickel, zinc, tin and trace metals. It was considerably cheaper to produce than the extraction of copper for the government minted half-cents and cents. The Hard Times, an especially rough period of economic recession following the dissolution of the Second Bank of the United States, was known for massive hoarding of small change. Much of the small change circulating at this time (roughly 1837-1844) was composed of clunky copper half-cents and cents privately produced. In 1837, Feuchtwanger presented his one cent coins to Congress for approval as legal coinage and a cheaper substitute for copper. This was probably the first attempt to circulate "nickel" coinage in the United States. Congress denied his request, but Feuchtwanger persisted in his production and circulation. Laws banning private coinage were not passed until 1864. Between 1837 and 1844 thousands of Feuchtwanger cents came out of his New York City pharmacy.

When notes are discovered that have been printed incorrectly (such as having the serial numbers upside down, etc.) the misprinted "error notes" are replaced with star notes because no two bills within a certain series can be produced with the same serial number. They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run. By their nature, star notes are more scarce than notes with standard serial numbers and as such are widely collected by numismatists. Some of the highest prices paid for modern (post-1928) U.S. banknotes have been for star notes. The note itself is a Silver Certificate. They were redeemable in Silver. One of their most distinctive qualities is the blue Treasury seal and serial numbers. These notes include an additional legend printed on the face that is not present on any other Federal Reserve notes. The legend states that Silver had been deposited in the Treasury and was payable on demand to the note’s bearer. Signatures Priest/Humphrey. Five dollar silver certificates were first issued in 1886. The series ended in 1953 with the Lincoln blue seals. Some $5 silver certificates are very popular and valuable. Small size five dollar silver certificates were issued for 1934, 1934A, 1934B, 1934C, and 1934D. The 1953 $5 silver certificate looks very similar to the earlier 1934 issues except that the “5” on the left hand side of the note is in blue, and the seal on the right hand side is smaller.

The back of the two dollar bill shows Monticello (Jefferson’s long time home in Virginia). All 1963 red seal two dollar bills were printed in Washington DC. They have red overprints, red writing, and a red seal on the right hand side of the bill.
