German Porcelain Doll Known as "Nymphenburg Lady" in Original Tea Cozy Presentation 1200/1800

17" (43 cm.) Elegant slender-faced model with aristocratic sculpting of nose and throat has grey sculpted hair waved from her face and arranged in softly-coiled curls, painted downcast eyes, on original muslin torso which is attached to a wire frame designed for use as tea cozy, original porcelain lower arms and hands with separately-sculpted fingers. The doll is wearing her original elaborate velvet and linen gown with rich metallic trim in the 17th century manner. Excellent condition. Germany, Koniglich-Bayerische Porcelain of Nymphenburg, the doll was introduced at the 1908 Munich Art Doll Exhibition in the category of "decoration dolls" and is considered a significant landmark in the fancies lineage.

Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1915, the half-doll has especially fine painting of eyes and lips, exquisite sculpting of individual fingers.

Waist-up porcelain lady with sculpted brown hair and painted costume in the 18th century style, posed with ring held in her right hand as she extends the ring finger on her left hand as though to place the ring. Excellent condition. Germany, Goebel, circa 1915, the popular model was made in a variety of styles including another example made of bisque, uncostumed and with mohair wig. Rarity factors of this charming half-dolls include dark brown color of hair and yellow gown with rose pattern.

Porcelain hip-up child posed with arms held away from body, with curled fingers, sculpted baby cap with scalloped edge having painted floral design with gilt edging and sculpted feathers that are accented by Dresden flowers, and with burgundy streamers and throat bow. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1910, the rare model was constructed with multi-piece mold which created a rare torso construction and unique bonnet. Few examples are known to exist, one without throat streamers, and this extremely rare example having painted streamers.

Germany, circa 1910, attributed to Dressel, Kister & Co, exceptional detail of finger modeling and variegated flowers; the model was created with four front sew holes (two at bodice, and two at hips) designed to allow an actual bouquet of silk or fresh flowers to be attached as though held in her hands.

Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1920, the highly-stylized lady's top hat was inspired by performances of Nolly DoRey and Josephine Baker at the Folies Bergere of Paris.

The base of the box removes for access to candy interior. Original paper label from Demel of Vienna candy shop. Excellent condition. The lady has flowing brown hair beneath a high purple hennin worn over a long white wimple which wraps around her left arm; her costume comprising a teal tunic with fleur-de-lis designs over an ermine robe, ermine collar, elaborate gold collar. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1910, from the Medieval Series of the Dressel & Kister Co. The figurine was made in several variations including #27 of this catalog which is a half-doll with separate chair, and without the flowing wimple of this model.

Dressel, Kister & Co, circa 1910, the figure was inspired by a 19th century costume design book which identified the costume as "French milkmaid" and was created by Dressel in several variations ranging from this nude half-doll to a full figure costumed figurine which appeared in their catalog as model 4230.

5" (13 cm.) h. 7 1/2"l. Posed in dance performance, the gentleman standing behind the woman as they gaze at each other, their arms outstretched with tentatively touching hands. He has black sculpted hair and downcast grey eyes, and she has short brown bobbed hair held by a wide blue hair band accented with gilt, brown eyes with rich outline, and is wearing a beaded gilt halter. The pair are joined at the waist with four sew-holes. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1920, attributed to Dressel, Kister, the double half-dolls are extremely rare, this pair surely inspired by the "look" of then popular silent film stars Rudolph Valentino and Theda Bara which they closely resemble, including the gilt harness closely associated with Bara.

Porcelain half-doll of flapper lady with painted black cloche with green accents has extended arms, holding a mirror in her right hand and a lipstick in her left which she holds up to her lips. The half-doll is wearing a gilt metallic halter which is attached to a flared metallic frame designed to appear as her skirt, and which covers the porcelain vanity bowl. The bowl frame is incised "France" and "Bte SGDG Depose". Excellent condition. For the French market, circa 1920, the charming ladylike scene is enriched by fine detail of casework, and complemented by metallic crest with amethyst jewel.

Waist-up porcelain lady with very slender torso, her face turned sharply to the side to accentuate the angular cut of her bobbed black hair with defined separation lines at the bangs, brown side-glancing eyes, gold earrings. She is posed with arms bent at the elbow and holding a masquerade mask. Marks: (blue bishop staff stamp). Excellent condition. Germany, Dressel, Kister, circa 1925, the model may have been inspired by the silent film actress, Louise Brooke, whose iconic and unique hair style was known as the "Lulu" bob. This seemingly minimalist half-doll has highly-sophisticated design enhanced by artistic blush.

The two-piece set features Pierrot with center curl at forehead, classic costume with diamond-point edging and red buttons, posed kneeling under the supposed weight of the porcelain powder dish which rests on his back. The powder dish is supported by a pair of shapely bent legs garbed in yellow and pink stockings and appears to be one-piece with Pierrette with powder puff skirt which rests atop, but Pierrette and her powder puff skirt are actually detachable for use. Marks: (crown and L blue stamp). Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1920, Dressel & Kister Co. the rare model is enhanced by detailed all-around modeling, e.g. the hidden vase of flowers behind the bent knee of Pierrot.

Her deeply-set brown eyes are richly outlined, and she has a unique captivating smile. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1925, attributed to Fasold & Stauch, the very rare half-doll with rare smiling expression and provocative costuming was likely inspired by an unknown celebrity event; the smiling facial model is similar to other signed examples by Fasold & Stauch.

Waist-up porcelain nude woman with white/grey sculpted hair in dainty curls around the sides of her face and forming into curls onto her shoulders, the hair decorated with a jeweled head piece in tiny blue, red and gilt stones, which are repeated in her sculpted earrings and elaborate necklace, with extended arms and delicately curled fingers. Marks: 10793. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1910, the distinctive portrait and her unique jewelry and headpiece accessories suggest two possible inspirations, viz. Queen Maria Carolina of Naples or the beloved Prussian Queen Elisabeth, wife of King Wilhelm, each of whom were captured in paintings of their time, usually with similar head piece or jewelry, whitened hair, and slightly-older slender face with plump chin of which this half-doll bears an uncanny resemblance.

Hip-up porcelain half-doll with 13-hole hoop-shaped base depicting 18th century lady, sculpted brown hair with topknot and elaborate side curls, blue ribbon hair band with two large bows, painted brown downcast eyes, sculpted bodice having pink ribbon trim on the sleeves and waist, pink cameo brooch, daintily-posed fingers on arms that are designed to be holding the cloth skirt, should a pincushion base be added to the figure.
