Attic Condition Period Altered 1763 Charleville Musket Lot #501 (Sale Order 1 of 385) .70 caliber, 44.75" barrel length, all parts are original to the musket. Barrel bands and springs are missing, Correct style lock and triggerguard, buttplate and side plate.
Condition: This musket is in the attic condition, the stock during its period of use has been altered for carry. The rear section is as used during the Rev war retaining all of its original parts only the forward section has been altered during its period of use. A nice untouched piece. EST $ 1000 - 1500 |

Model 1816 Harpers Ferry Musket Lot #505 (Sale Order 5 of 385) .69 caliber, 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring retained bands, no S/N. Bright finish, walnut stock. Reconverted Harpers Ferry marked lock dated 1821. Tang with matching date. Weak cartouches on stock with 3rd class rating cartouche legible. Barrel with percussion conversion mating marks on top of breech. Retains sling swivels, reproduction ramrod. Includes an original socket bayonet.
Condition: Fair. Metal heavily oxidized and moderately pitted all over. Reconverted to flint. Lock functional, bore fair and heavily oxidized. One lock screw replaced, exterior lock parts reproductions. Stock with a large piece of replaced wood between the lock and tang, about 5" long and an 1" wide. Otherwise with numerous bumps and dings and a few tight surface grain cracks. Bayonet good with moderately pitted socket. EST $ 800 - 1200 |

Belgian Contract Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifled Musket Lot #518 (Sale Order 18 of 385) .577 caliber, 39" barrel secured by three clamping barrel bands, no S/N. Blued finish, brass furniture, walnut stock. Lock unmarked except for tiny */G near front edge, barrel with Belgian E/LG/* proof at breech and small Peron inspection at bolster. Retains original rear sight, front sight/bayonet lug, sling swivels and all three screw protectors on the barrel bands. Missing ramrod. A very nice, untouched example of a Belgian contract P1853 Enfield Rifle Musket, some of which saw Civil War use, primarily in the hands of Union soldiers.
Condition: Good. Untouched, heavily oxidized metal with some scattered light pitting and patches of light surface rust. Mechanically functional, poor bore is heavily oxidized and very dirty. Stock with scattered bumps and dings. EST $ 1000 - 1500 |

Shortened Baden Alteration Musket Lot #519 (Sale Order 19 of 385) .72 caliber, 26.5" barrel secured by two spring retained bands, no S/N. Bright finish, hardwood stock. Unmarked lock, 1833 dated stock, 1859 alteration date on buttplate. Two OHIO ownership stamps present, on the wrist and counterpane. Added front sight, original alteration rear sight. Retains both sling swivels and a shortened ramrod. The musket appears to have been shortened in the post-Civil War period for civilian use, with the barrel cut from 42" to just under 27", the forend cut back and the upper band removed. Known to collectors for years as the "Wurttemberg" conversion, these muskets were really altered as the St. Blasien arsenal in the Black Forest for use by the German state of Baden. Taking French pattern 1816 and 1822 flintlock muskets, and copies of those patterns, the arsenals altered them to percussion, rifled them and added fixed sights. 2,000 of these rifled and sighted guns were purchased by Marcellus Hartley for the US Ordnance Department. The presence of the OHIO stamps indicate this gun was part of that purchase and subsequently sent to Ohio circa 1863 by the US government. A neat relic of a scarce Civil War import musket with a set of desirable Ohio state ownership stamps.

Lock marked HARPERS / FERRY / 1850 with matching date on the tang, correct Harpers Ferry PB/P barrel inspection along with V / P / {eagle head} proofs. No discernible cartouches on counterpane. Retains both sling swivels and a full-length ramrod. Includes a Belgian-made French pattern 1847 socket bayonet that fits correctly.

Butterfield-type hammer, with screw replaced during period of use. Includes sling swivels and reproduction 1842-type ramrod.

Possible Confederate Alteration of a Harpers Ferry Model 1816 Musket Lot #522 (Sale Order 22 of 385) .69 caliber, 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring retained bands, no S/N. Bright finish, walnut stock. Harpers Ferry lock dated 1821 at the tail, weak inspection marks on counterpane. Altered to percussion with a patent breech conversion and a crudely checkered percussion hammer. A long grooved rear sight has been added over the breech and tang area, obscuring any markings in this area. Retains both sling swivels and includes a reproduction ramrod.
Condition: Good. Metal untouched and evenly oxidized with a chocolate patina and moderate pitting at the breech. Lock markings clear, matching assembly marks legible on most parts, cartouches weak. Mechanically functional, very dirty, heavily oxidized bore. Stock worn with numerous scattered bumps, dings and mars. EST $ 1000 - 1500 |

Austrian Model 1854 Type II Rifle Musket Lot #523 (Sale Order 23 of 385) .54 caliber, 37.325" barrel secured by three spring retained bands, no S/N. Bright finish, beech stock. No legible marks on lock or breech. Long range leaf rear sight, front sight/bayonet lug. Missing both sling swivels with lug under middle band removed. Correct pattern original ramrod. Stock with raised cheek rest. A classic example of the third most used long arm of the American Civil War.

Harpers Ferry Model 1842 Musket Lot #524 (Sale Order 24 of 385) .69 caliber, 42" barrel secured by three spring retained bands, no S/N. Bright finish, walnut stock. Harpers Ferry lock dated 1852, weak 1852 on tang. Small V / P / {eagle head} proofs and weak remnants of Harpers Ferry barrel inspection present as well. No visible cartouches. Retains both sling swivels and an original full-length ramrod. Several five-pointed stars are carved into the stock, along with the initial "A" and an illegible set of initials on the obverse. A nice, untouched example of a Model 1842 musket that certainly saw Civil War use.
Condition: Good. Metal with a thick, heavily oxidized brown patina that is untouched. Lock markings clear, lock functional, bore heavily oxidized and dirty. Stock with scattered bumps dings and mars and a couple of tight surface grain cracks around the lock and counterpane. EST $ 1000 - 1500 |

Harpers Ferry Model 1841 Hall Percussion Rifle Lot #525 (Sale Order 25 of 385) .52 caliber, 32.625" barrel secured by three pin retained bands, no S/N. Browned finish, walnut stock. Top of breech marked H. Ferry / US / 1841. The final variation of the Hall breechloading rifle, produced in percussion, rather than flint at Harpers Ferry was the 1841. These guns had breech blocks marked as this one, but had the later "fish tail" action release and no extended pistol grip extension to the triggerguard. This gun was either made early in 1841 with the new breechblock and older 1819 pattern parts, or was assembled sometime there after, adding an 1841 block to an 1819 pattern gun to alter it to percussion. As Harpers Ferry, along with its machinery and store of parts was in Confederate hands in early 1841, it may have provided a supply of percussion breech blocks to easily alter 1819 flintlock Hall rifles in southern state arsenals. The rifle has a crude iron strap repair securing a crack at the rear of the stock, and anchoring it to the screw that holds the rear action plate in place. All parts have a matching patina that indicates the rifle has been in this configuration since the period of use. Retains both sling swivels, missing the cleaning rod.
Condition: Good. Untouched with a thick brown patina, scattered oxidation and some scattered pitting. Clear breech markings, breech block functions, mainspring appears to be broken. Bore poor, dirty, crusty and rusty. Stock crisp and untouched with some bumps and dings and the period repaired crack behind the action. EST $ 1000 - 1500 |

British Pattern 1859 India Service Enfield "Short Rifle" Lot #538 (Sale Order 38 of 385) .65 caliber, 33" barrel secured by two clamping bands, no S/N. Blue finish, brass furniture, walnut stock. Lock marked 1860 / TOWER forward of hammer and with a small {CROWN}/{broad arrow}, the usual British {crown} / VR is present at the tail of the lock. Stock with WO / {broad arrow} War Office roundel that reads TOWER LONDON 1860. Stock additionally with a {BROAD ARROW} / I / 1862 India Service storekeeper's mark. Fixed V-notch rear sight, front sight/socket bayonet lug, upper sling swivel present with toe swivel missing, full-length ramrod. After the Sepoy rebellion, the British military adopted a policy of supplying the native troops in their service with arms that were one or two technological steps back from those used by front line British troops. In 1858 a smoothbore version of the Enfield was adopted for issue to the Indian troops and the following year a slightly improved variant with a thicker barrel was adopted. These guns were nominally .656 caliber but were smoothbore rather than rifled, although from casual examination they appeared to be standard Enfield pattern arms. These native troops arms are not regularly seen for sale in the United States.
Condition: Very good. Retains no finish with a mostly smooth plum patina with some light to moderate pitting, mostly at the breech. Clear markings, mechanically functional, good bore that is is dirty and oxidized. Stock with scattered bumps and dings and clear markigns. EST $ 750 - 1200 |

Lewis Sons & Parker Regimental Broadsword, Renfrew Highlanders Lot #561 (Sale Order 61 of 385) 31.75" double-edged blade with double 18" fullers. Steel basket in traditional highland regimental form with pierced hearts lined in red felt with military blue trim and lobate pommel and pompom, grip of wire-wrapped shagreen. Blade etched throughout with foliate scrolls as well as Victorian crown with accompanying royal cipher. Reverse side of blade etched with Prince of Wales' badge surrounded by " Renfrew Highlanders ." Steel scabbard with ball-tip and two handing rings.
The Renfrew Scottish were raised as a Canadian Volunteer Force in 1853, taking their name from the town of Renfrew, Ontario. Troops raised from this town were assigned to the 5th and 6th Battalions, and served in France and the Middle East during the First World War. The regiment continued to serve with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The 4th Battalion was raised from the Royal Renfrew Militia, who in 1855 was granted the use of "The Prince of Wales Regiment of Renfrewshire Militia," and served in the Boer War and were held as reserve battalions during the First World War. As this blade shows the Prince of Wales badge, it is likely this sword originated from that Battalion. Condition: Good to very good. Blade shows evidence of cleaning with some of the detail worn away. Basket has some oxidation with some of the silk trim faded and worn away. Some looseness to wire and some small holes in basket lining. Scabbard shows some oxidation and darkening. EST $ 700 - 900 |

Fish skin grip with triple braided wire buff red insert in guard. Guard nickel plated with typical Scottish motifs. Nickel-plated scabbard. Condition of blade is excellent with little if any staining; has been sharpened approximately 12 in. from point for use by Lieutenant Murray. Hilt is good and scabbard is as well. A presentation sword from the year before the outbreak of the Great War.

Abner .N. Newton Firearm Patent: Model No. 15,552 August 12 1856 Lot #749 (Sale Order 246 of 385) Octagonal barrel is 9" overall length. The purpose was to prevent the escape of gas in a breech loading firearm. The bands in the barrel expended by the pressure of the gas at the instant of explosion, thus preventing the gas to escape. This is similar to an existing feature on a Joslyn barrel with expanding rings, the difference is the Josylyn mechanism employed rings expanded by a cone headed pin, this patent used bands which expand due to use of powder.

Edwin Burt's breech loading patent consisted of what he claimed to be a brand new type of breech block, in which the block took the form of a half circle, with the whole swinging open when the piece as brought to half cock. When closed, the breech had a smooth, rounded appearance which would in Burt's words avoid "...any unseemingly projections above or behind the opening of the breech to interfere with the eye of the operator...".

J.W. Preston Breech Loading Firearm Patent: Model No. 61, 865 Lot #825 (Sale Order 322 of 385) J.W. Preston improvement patent on breech loading firearms. This patent model measures 8.5" in length showing the barrel with a top of the barrel opening in the manner of a trapdoor with percussion nipple. This specific design with patent number 61,865 claims that this piece is intended to be inserted into the cavity of the barrel in front of the breech-pin for altered guns or barrels. The plug is inserted into the barrel not the breech. Patent was granted on February 5, 1867.

A Good Staghorn Inlaid Saxon Miner’s Guild Axe circa 1750. Lot #883 (Sale Order 380 of 385) The fruitwood haft inlaid throughout its length with scrimshawed panels of white stag horn depicting miner's swinging a hammer, engaged in prayer (always a good idea for 18th century miners) and a long horn butt in one piece well engraved. The whole further enriched with stag horn pellets. The iron head forged in one piece and pierced with cross and stamped with maker's marks. These axes were carried by miners in religious processions and guild gatherings.
Condition: Condition overall is fine with scrimshawed decoration showing little wear with few if any inlays replaced. The blade with good untouched dark patination. Saxon miner’s axes are highly collectible and go well with inlaid wheel-locks and armor. EST $ 2500 - 4000 |

Also includes full size and miniature military badges of the British Order of The Bath. Full size badge is of 20.6 dwt 18k gold with " IN " and lion passant maker's marks handing from a ribbon with 14k rose gold hardware. All medals fitted with old museum tags showing accession numbers. Condition: Good overall. Some tarnishing of silver and fading of ribbon colors, Order of the Bath ribbon mostly torn around handing ring, could be repaired with skill. H. & T.A. Thompson Regimental Broadsword, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Lot #886 (Sale Order 383 of 385) Ca. 20th century. 33" spearpoint blade with 16.75" double fullers. Steel basket with wire-wrapped shagreen grip and lobate pommel. Obverse ricasso shows gold "proved" stamp with serial number 101411 on spine, reverse ricasso shows Thompson maker's marks and address. Blade engraved with typical foliate designs and regimental crests and mottoes of Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Leather scabbard with steel throat and tip, throat marked " WYATT'S/REGISTERED/No 20052 ".
Condition: Good overall, blade has been cleaned in the European fashion with some resulting loss of detail to etchings. Guard has a dull luster with rip remaining in excellent condition. Scabbard shows some markings and imperfections to finish. EST $ 600 - 800 |
