*Scarce Chardon Otis Co. "Door Gun".

Lot #1 (Sale Order 1 of 58)

Constructed mostly of brass having a .910" diameter bore with a length of 4.5" and an overall length of 11". The gun is activated by a trip line that pulls a rod attached to a hook release that has a tension adjustment knob which retains a large steel firing mechanism that is under spring retention, when released it slams downward into a firing bar setting off a percussion cap lighting the black powder and discharging the gun. The door gun is mounted to a frame through 2 mounting holes measuring approximately .30". Excellent overall condition with all brass having nice medium mottled patina. The brass tension knob has been nickeled showing some losses and a knurled edge. Bore is clean with little overall wear present. Fantastic example of a threat ending door gun.

Lot #2 (Sale Order 2 of 58)

designed off of Eley's Patent and firing a .22 cal. round. Designed like a Victorian Era door alarm but using a .22 cal. rim fired cartridge to sound intrusion rather than a bell. Construction is of a brass frame with swing out loading gate that houses the firing pin and is actuated by a trip plunger to the rear. The barrel is steel octagonal and 5" in length with the bore showing only light pitting. The firing pin shows some deformation on one side. The brass has a deep patina with some orange tones along with dark spots and the Manufactures' patent and caliber markings are all crisp and nicely visible. The barrel shows some original finish with a nice patina and thinning on the edges. There are some handling marks present as you would find on an alarm such as this but only a few light with some flash pitting on the barrel.

in very good plus condition. Used to eradicate moles from your yard. Operation is performed by muzzle loading the .33" diameter smooth bore with desired shot, pulling the trigger ring forward and placing food behind it. Once filled it is placed in the hole, the falling percussion hammer is cocked and a trip bar is moved into position to ready the gun. Overall condition appears as though it was never used showing almost no handling wear with only a small amount of surface rust present in a few small areas with wood showing no wear.

.44 rf, s/n 18, revolving derringer, brl length 2.87", revolving single action, excellent condition, This extremely rare double sided revolving derringer was designed by inventors Samuel M. Perry and Emerson Goddard who receiver patent numbers 43259 and 43260 called a "Patent Copper Cartridge revolving derringer" by the patent office June 21, 1864 Perry and Goddard contracted Edward S. Renwick to manufacture the firearms. It is believed that fewer than 100 of these revolving derringers were ever produced with only a handful in collections to date. This example is unusual as the barrel marking on it reads as follows "DOUBLE ENDER/E.S. RENWICK/MANFR/NEW YORK/PAT. JUNE 21, 1864" where mostly all known examples are marked "DOUBLE HEADER". Operation is performed by quarter cocking the derringer, rotating the barrel and returning barrel to firing position, than fully cocking the hammer and firing. Once fired the hammer is again quarter cocked and a new round is chambered at the other end of the barrel since both ends have chambering cut outs. The barrel is then rotated 180 degrees cocked and fired without having to remove the spent casing because the pressure from the subsequent round would push the spent casing from the muzzle end and the projectile would be fired toward target. This allowed for the firearm to increase rate of fire to 20 rounds per minute higher rates were achieved through practice. This example is in fine condition retaining a lot of the original finish on the metal surfaces. The Niter bluing is strongly present on the screw head retaining the grip panels and the antique ivory grips have flat sides with beveled edges showing slight hairlines and being the slightest of undersized. The serial number is located on the underside of the barrel flat. Engraving on both sides of the frame are in a scroll work pattern with a line border. The engraving on both sides of barrel flats are a flower leaf motif with a leaf motif on the top barrel flat and the barrel address in a radius engraving with double line border. There are two brass bead sights located at either end of the barrel and the frame is notched for proper sight alignment. Hammer spur is checkered and entire firearm has a blue/brown mottled patina. *Cased New-Haven Arms Co., Volcanic No. 1 Pocket Pistol,

.31 cal, s/n 219, BP pistol, brl length 3.5" octagonal, lever action, very good condition, Approximately 850 No.1 Pocket Pistols were manufactured. In the advertising it states original cost of "$12; plated and engraved, $13.50 carrying 6 balls." This being the plated and engraved version retains a majority of the original plating under the walnut grip panels with no visible sign once grips are in place. The barrel marking is very light but reads "NEW-HAVEN CONN/PATENT FEB 14 1854" in two lines. The frame along with the side plates are brass with scrollwork, line and point engraving. The scroll work has feathered styling with some aspects of flower motif. Bore has nice rifling with very light pitting present in some areas. Barrel edges are very nice showing thinning of finish with some freckling on the tube magazine. The brass shows some wear from handling and tool marks present at left screw head lever retainer, top of back strap and right side plate mostly with other areas shown scattered and having a nice medium tone patina throughout the slightest touch lighter on the right plate. Ring lever has some play and the hammer having a checkered spur shows some thinning with a few areas of flash pitting. Walnut smooth grips showing wear with indentations and some losses present with right side having cracks. Presented in a period correct walnut case having green felt type lining with two lidded compartments which have nicely executed reinforcing braces in corners. Case does show handling wear and is missing the lid shield. Great example of a No.1 Pocket.

.58 cal, s/n NSN, BP rifle, brl length 28.125" round barrel, flintlock action, very good condition, John Cookson, Mass. enrolled in the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company in 1701. From 1722 to 1726 he acted as company clerk. In 1727 was employed to clean and repair the arms belonging to the Province of Massachusetts Bay. And later opening his own firm manufacturing rifles till 1762 when he died leaving his gunsmith tools to his grandson Samuel and his shop to his grandson John. John Cookson built many rare and unusual rifles including the "Cookson Repeater." This example is a breech loading flintlock having a top mounted hinge with the release located just in front of the trigger inside the guard. The guard itself is of unusual shape with finger form to grasp with ease. Being constructed of iron with partial single line border and finial plate. right side of frame is engraved "John Cookson/Boston" in two lines just below hammer cock. The barrel has two double lines running from back to front along the top of barrel and at the muzzle the barrel has a trumpet flare, being lightly engraved at both breech and muzzle with a small fixed front sight and notch rear. There are two lines of rifling very faint but visible with areas of pitting in the bore. The wood appears maple with a hump back scalloped shadow line straight grip butt stock and forend with scroll tip. The wood has various indentations throughout with a few scuffs all of old age. The forend retention pins have been removed and reinserted from opposite side. The iron butt plate is slightly oversized. All metal surfaces have a gray mottled patina throughout with spot freckling and a few areas of very light flash pitting. There is the slightest amount of loose play in the action. Fine example of a breech loading Cookson rifle.

*Exceptionally Rare Edward Lindner, Magazine Repeater

.48 cal, s/n NSN, revolving rifle, brl length 15 3/8" round, single action repeater, very good condition, The Lindner Magazine Repeater is unlike anything else of it's time. On May 26, 1857 U.S. Patent 17382 was issued for an "Improvement in Fire-arms". His design starts with a six chamber revolving shoulder firearm with a brass magazine tube attached on the underside of the barrel along with a tapered cone ratcheting mechanism and follower designed to pull nine combustable-envelope cartridges into the 6 o'clock position chamber upon firing of the rifle. The striker pushes a cap onto the nipple while firing the twelve o'clock chamber. The action takes place by cocking a hammer engraved to look like a fish and is capable of firing what is believed to be 13 shots before one needs to reload. It is unknown if the shoulder fired revolver ever went into mass production as this appears to be the only known example and a prototype patent model. The bore is smooth and unrifled and there are no sights. The metal surfaces appear to be unfinished with a light grey/brown mottled patina. There frame is hinged on the right side rear to access the internal workings and the smooth walnut stock with cheek rest does not have a butt plate. The wood shows some losses and handling marks and the trigger and cocking hammer both have slight play. The tubular magazine is retained via a brass barrel band. Accompanying the rifle is a photo copy article published in The Gun Report Magazine November of 1966 written by C. Meade Patterson and James C. Rasmussen when the firearm was owned by Frank Russell and in the article it states that it is "the only one that exists, as far as we know." and is referred to as "the Lindner self-priming, tubular-magazine, revolving-cylinder percussion shoulder firearm". Beautiful example of a complex unique firearm.

*Ignati Mayr, Dueling pistol set,

.65 cal, s/n NSN, muzzleloading pistols, brl length 12.875 to touch holes, Flintlock action, very good condition, The manufacturing predates 1750s with record of the family being multi generational in the Salzburg Austria region. This fine pair of dueling pistols have nicely relief carved walnut stocks. Iron lock plates have scrollwork engraving along with two hounds engraved on either side of hammer cock. The hammer cock and retaining screw are both engraved with nicely executed Frizza springs and pans having ornate Frizzons as well. The brass accents on the pistols are highly engraved with the lock retaining plates, trigger guards and butt caps being relief engraved with a face present on the lock retaining plates. The forend tip and two ramrod pipes are also engraved. The top of both barrels are inletted with gold in a wondering line style and the top flats are marked what appears "IGNATI-MAYR". The muzzle ends of both pistols differ slightly with both grip caps being made of horn with the sight set back on the pistols differing by .382". The horn forming is slightly different as well as the lines on the top of barrels and just above the ramrods on the wood. One pistol has a horn capped ramrod while the other is painted black. The pistols show only minor wear throughout with one having a hairline crack in the hammer cock and on the right side at the butt cap in the walnut stock. The front brass ramrod pipe appears to have been replaced and fine line engraved in an attempt to match. Both bore are smooth showing only a light amount of pitting. Very nice pair of dueling pistols.

*Whitworth Rifle Co., Whitworth rifle,

.451"/11.5mm, s/n B360, rifled musket, brl length 32", percussion action, very good plus condition, Designed by Joseph Whitworth and produced from 1857-1865 the Whitworth is the world's first "Sniper rifle" with a confirmed 1 mile capacity. It is also known to have taken the lives of many high ranking Union officers by the hands of Confederate "sharpshooters". The reason for the improved accuracy is the Whitworth used a 1 in 20" rifled barrel versus the 1 in 78" and 1 in 48" twist of other rifles of the day along with the hexagon bore. The walnut checkered straight grip stock and forend show off very well having only a few light surface scratches and some indentations with 3 steel barrel bands, sling swivels, round iron hinged lid patch box with a borderline engraving containing patches with a light silver/gray patina. The steel butt plate shows some areas of light surface rust with a small borderline engraving at the heel. The very rare rear sight is of the folding leaf express style with one always standing and three that fold being marked one through four respectively and retain a majority of their original finish. The top of the barrel is marked "WHITWORTH PATENT" with the left shoulder being marked in a single line "Crown/BP 52 crossed flags 52 crossed flags B360". Bluing on the barrel has a nice high gloss showing only a very few areas of light freckling/super fine surface rust right and left side toward muzzle. Bore shines very bright. The lock is marked with a crown over "W" at the rear and "WHITWORTH" at the front having a double line border, the hammer spur is checkered with the right side having a borderline as well as quarter scroll on the flat. The tang has an oval double borderline with two small swivels toward barrel end. The case coloring on the lock and components has mostly thinned out presently showing traces and a brown/gray patina. This is a fine example of a Whitworth rifle.

*U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1817

Lot #12 (Sale Order 14 of 58)

.54 Cal., s/n NSN, Flintlock, brl length 10.75" smooth bore barrel, Muzzle loading pistol, Very Good Condition. Rare highly desirable Type II Model 1817. This example has the lock markings of "SPRING/FIELD/1815" rear of the hammer which is correct for a type II along with the American Eagle and shield motif over "US" just in front of the hammer. On the underside of the pistol just ahead of the trigger on the flat is marked "RS" with the barrel markings on the left side near the breech being marked "P" in partial circle over eagle's head over "V". There is also a barrel date on top at tang, it is present but mostly illegible. The barrel band is of the single piece double type with fluted channels on either side and a brass sight mounted on top of front band. The fore stock protrudes beyond the bands correct to the model. There is a hickory ramrod with a swelled tip that has a ferruled threaded to accept a ball screw and other attachments. The ramrod is complete but there are no attachments present. The back strap, grip cap and trigger guard are all iron with the back strap running full length and the triggerguard leaving a small gap between itself and the cap. In 1817 the pistol project was revitalized under the initiative of Colonel Robert Lee, the superintendent of Springfield Armory, with the sanction of Colonel Decius Wadsworth of the Ordnance Department. The pistols were never issued, for an 1850 armory inventory showed all 1,000 of them still on hand. The model 1817 was the first handgun made in quantity at the Springfield Armory and the Armory would go on to only produce two others the 1855 and the 1911. The walnut stock is smooth showing scattered indentations throughout with what appears to be a "CP" upside down at the grip cap area left side. The lock has nice clear markings with a functioning hammer showing the slightest flash pitting under the pan, on the edge of the pan as well as on the side of the hammer and frizzen. The back strap shows some tool marks with light pitting at breech. The trigger guard shows some pitting on the bow and on the rearward portion with a few light tool marks. The grip cap shows light flash pitting with some light scattered tool marks. The barrel band shows a few areas of pitting mostly on the sides with the barrel showing some heavy pitting around the pan area as well as some light pitting throughout and at muzzle. The bore shows pitting.

*Unknown British Smith's Patent, Cased under hammer pistol carbine

.45 cal & .339" cal., s/n NSN, BP pistol carbine, brl length 3.125" original & 30" round, percussion action, very good condition, Cased set complete with approximately 3" octagonal pistol barrel having British proof marks bottom left side flat and iron mounted self contained hinged ramrod with smooth bore. Damascus 30" round barrel with 2 grooves of rifling, the top is marked "SMITHS. IMPROVED. PATENT. RIFLE." in single line having fixed front sight and medium brown wrap line patina showing very little handling with a bore that shines and 2 British proof marks underside. The frame is marked "Smiths Patent/Rifle" in two lines with engraving on all panels in a scroll and flower motif. The smooth wood walnut grip shows some wear with indentations with the rear having a coin silver cap that rotates 45 degrees to the left, once removed the straight grip checkered walnut shoulder stock can be inserted. The attachment lug appears coin nickel silvered with engraving on sides and tang in a scrollwork design. The engraved steel butt plate is slightly oversized showing light freckling with some thinning to the checkering and light indentations. Frame has a gray/brown patina. To change the barrels the bottom mounted hammer is pulled to half cock, the barrel is than unscrewed and another is attached, the hammer is than pulled to full cock to make ready the side mounted hammer is cocked and the pistol is ready to fire. Included is an iron bullet mold, unmarked brass and copper flask showing separation on the bottom, 29.5" brass tipped ramrod and walnut case lined with deep purple velvet and having original paper label. The inletted shield on the top of the case is currently stored loose inside. Very nice overall condition, pistol barrel is void of sights and the iron ramrod housing has a small hairline crack bottom right side.

*Massachusetts Arms Co., Cased Maynard First Model Two Barrel set

.50 cal, s/n 4134, rifle/shotgun, brl length 20" & 26" barrels, percussion action, very good condition, This example of a first model Maynard has matching numbers underside of 20" barrel as well as on the underside of the tape door. The 20" barrel is .50 cal and being rifled with fixed front and rear sights showing original bluing throughout with thinning on most edges and at muzzle with light freckling toward muzzle and showing some pitting and nice rifling in bore. The 26" barrel has no serial number, is a smooth bore and measures .54" at muzzle with a bore that has shine and pitting present and a blade type fixed front sight, it is void of a rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO/CHICOPEE FALLS". in three lines. The right side is marked "MAYNARD ARMS CO./WASHINGTON." in two lines. The two piece butt plate hinged patch box is marked on the lid "MAYNARD PATENTEE/MAY 27. 1851/JUNE 17.1856" in three lines, Upon opening the paper label inside is still present. There is a saddle ring attached to the lower tang instead of a side mounted bar and there is a folding tang mounted rear sight. The smooth straight grip walnut stock shows some light surface scratches and indentations. The frame has a light silver patina with few areas of light freckling with a very small amount of flash pitting around top of tape door and surrounding area with areas of varnish present under rear sight. The rear sight itself has what appears Niter bluing underneath the bottom side covered in varnish as well. Included is a walnut case showing wear with a crack in the lid, lined in deep burgundy velvet with a "MAYNARD ARM CO./WASHINGTON" marked bullet mold covered in either varish or dried sperm whale oil, a "SYKES/PATENT" marked flask that is split on the seam, 2 hickory shafted brass tipped cleaning rods and other accessories.

*Extremely Rare European wild boar spear percussion pistol combination

This hunting arm would have been mounted to a pole and used for close stalking hunting of a wild boar. The spear gun is operated by thrusting it forward into the boar when the blade penetrates its target it slides rearward tripping the trigger that releases the hammer to fire the round loaded into the 5.5" barrel into its target. The spear is retained to the barrel by a 5/8" wide band and slides through a lug underside of action. The bore is rifled showing some pitting with two bands on the external side at the muzzle end. There is light line engraving either side of lock with line flute engraving on blade guard and three bands. There is some flash pitting with a few areas of pin point pitting either side of barrel and band along with lock plate and hammer. There are letters present underside of the blade and hammer doesn't stay locked back. Nice mottled light brown/grey patina throughout.

*Exceptional Scarce James Warner, Belt Model Prototype

.332" bore diameter, s/n 1, BP revolver, brl length 5" round, single action, good condition, Attributed to James Warner and believed to be a prototype/First Production Model. This example has almost all of the characteristics found on later models except the cylinder pin has no ridges. No.1 appears on hammer, under left side grip panel on frame as well as on front of frame and cylinder pin, where later belt model were marked with a number and letter combination. Metal surfaces are in the white with areas of flash pitting present, moderately on the cylinder that has lightly visible engraving and is capable of 5 shots. Other than the No.1 marking there are no visible markings. There are a few light scattered surface scratches most noticeable left side of frame. Walnut birds head grip panels show wear with minor losses and areas that have been sanded. Brass trigger guard has nice toning with little visible wear. Mechanically revolver functions with assistance, believe it needs some lubrication. Extremely Rare James Warner attributed firearm.

Original U.S. Patent papers to Richard J. Gatling for New and useful improvement in Machine-Guns.

Lot #17 (Sale Order 19 of 58)

Patent No. 497,781 dated May 23, 1893. The letter states "The invention relates to the class of machine or battery guns known as Gatling guns, in which the barrels and locks are grouped about a central shaft around which they revolve in loading and firing, the object being to provide such a gun with a simple ejecting mechanism for aiding the extractors in removing the exploded cartridges, insuring a better extraction and increasing the efficiency and durability of the lock and extractor, and also to provide a simple means for admitting and holding a cooling liquid in the case for preventing overheating of the barrels during operation. Referring to the accompanying drawings, where the invention is illustrated as applied to a gun of this class having ten barrels." The patent has three pages of drawings showing the Gatling improvements along with three pages of specifications. The three pages of drawings have Richard J. Gatling, Harry R. Williams, Atty and two witness signatures at the bottom. The pages are bound with a blue/green ribbon having an embossed red United States of America seal on the bottom left corner of the front page. Overall condition is fine with slight yellowing and cracking along the top edges of the front and rear pages showing two faint fold lines on the pages

*Colt, Sidehammer Model 1855 Sporting revolving rifle

.44 cal, s/n 2951, BP rifle, brl length 31.25" single action percussion, very good plus condition, Top of top strap is marked in two lines "COLT'S PT/1855" "ADDRESS COL. COLT/HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The cylinder is marked between two chambers at the flute "PATENTED SEPT. 10th 1850". The serial number is marked underside of frame as well as bottom of butt plate at toe. A majority of the high gloss colt bluing is present on the frame with areas of thinning most notably on top strap, on area where the loader lever pivots and upper and lower tang. The trigger guard has a brown/gray mottled patina with some freckling spots. The cylinder has a freckled patina throughout. Sliding adjustable dial lock rear sight retains a majority of the original finish with a German silver blade type sight fixed in dovetail. Finish on barrel has mostly thinned out having a gray/brown mottled patina throughout with some spotting. Bore has shine with nice deep rifling. There are a few scattered tool marks mostly rear portion of frame and top tang with some light surface scratches and flash pitting present around chamber areas mostly. The stock is walnut and has a checkered straight grip with a smooth forend showing very light wear. There is also the factory cleaning rod tip contained in the butt that attaches to the brass tipped hickory shafted cleaning rod.

*Colt, Presentation 1851 Navy model,

.36 cal., s/n 80476, BP revolver, brl length 7.5" , single action percussion, very good condition, Manufactured 1857 engraved in what appears theatre engraving "LT. COMDR. LEROY FITCH/S.S. CARONDELET" in two lines. Leroy Fitch was a member of the United States Naval Academy class of 1856 and served with great distinction in the American Civil War. In 1941, the destroyer USS Fitch (DD-462) was named in honor of Commander Fitch. It is of great note that the backstrap is engraved "S.S." and not U.S.S. whereby it is believed the Carondelet started life out as a steamship before becoming what was called a "Tin Clad". The USS Carondelet was a 512 ton Cairo class river gunboat and was built at Saint Louis for the U.S. Army's Western Gunboat Flotilla. Commissioned in January 1862, the ship quickly entered combat taking part in the captures of Fort Henry and Donelson in February 1862 and spent most of the following two years in a long campaign against Vicksburg and decommissioned in June of 1865. Fitch commanded a group of six small converted steamers on the Cumberland, Tennessee and Ohio rivers. With the fleet he contributed substantially to the pursuit and defeat of the rebel general John Hunt Morgan. The revolver has full matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, cylinder, triggerguard and back strap with the last four digits "0476" present on the loading lever, wedge and cylinder pin. The wedge has a broken spring with an "H" on the left side of the barrel just behind the wedge retaining screws, an "H" on the top of the cylinder pin, and a "C" just behind the serial number on the cylinder. The naval engagement scene on the cylinder is light in some areas but present. the top flat of the barrel is marked "--ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT. -- G" in a single line with the left side of the frame being marked "COLTS/PATENT/U.S." in three lines depicting a marshally marked revolver. The bore shines bright with nice rifling showing only a small amount of pitting. The brass back strap and trigger guard both have a nice patina with the top of the back strap being marked with an "S" in the center and just behind the trigger guard bow showing only light handling marks. The smooth walnut grips show some light indentations and the brass post front sight shows slight deformation. All metal surfaces show a gray mottled patina with some light handling marks mostly right side barrel flat and just a few small areas of very light flash pitting. The revolver is accompanied by a binder containing a lot of information about Commander Leroy Fitch and the U. S. S. Carondelet including a photocopy of the engagement between it and the CSS Arkansas and information on the Destroyer class U. S. S. Fitch.

".36 cal, s/n 40503, BP revolver, brl length 7.5"", single action, very good condition, Manufactured 1855 and presented to “Chas. H. Breckinridge. U.S.A.” which is engraved on the iron backstrap of this revolver. It is believed to have belonged to Charles Henry Breckinridge. Possibly presented to him upon his graduation from West Point with the U.S.A. standing for United States Army. His family was the true epitome of a Civil War family with brothers, fathers, sons, uncles and nephews supporting and fighting for both the Union and Confederate Armies. Charles Henry Breckinridge – 1844-1867 -- Charles Henry Breckinridge was born in Baltimore, Maryland on 09 September 1844 to Robert Jefferson and Anne Sophonisba Preston Breckinridge. He was appointed to West Point as a Cadet “at large” by President Abraham Lincoln in a letter dated June 1861. The original documentation being held by the National Archives, a copy of which will be included with the revolver. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York on June 23, 1865. In 1867 at Fort Morgan, Alabama, where First Lieutenant Breckinridge was commander with the 15th U. S. Infantry, yellow fever broke out among the soldiers. Although he had a leave of absence he remained at his post to minister to the sickness in his command. He contracted the disease and died on 27 August 1867 at the age of 22. He is buried at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky. His father was the Reverend Robert Jefferson Breckinridge, 1800-1871. During the Civil War, he helped establish the Danville Review, supporting the Union and served as Lincoln’s advisor in Kentucky. His Uncle, John C. Breckinridge was Vice-President of the United States under James Buchanan. In 1860 he ran for President but lost to Abraham Lincoln. When the South began to secede and Kentucky remained in the Union he resigned his Senate set and joined the Confederate Army. In February 1865 he was appointed Secretary of War for the Confederate States by Jefferson Davis. Following the war he fled the country in a self-imposed exile that lasted until 1869. His grandfather John Breckinridge, 1760-1806, studied at Augusta Academy (now Washington and Lee University) and William and Mary College. He was elected as a Democratic Republican to the U. S. Senate and served from march 4, 1801 until August 7, 1805 when he resigned to accept the position of Attorney General of the United States in the Cabinet of Thomas Jefferson. He served in this position until his death on December 14, 1806. His great grandparents are Robert and Letitia Preston Breckinridge. During the American Revolution Letitia provided supplies for the Patriots and thus earned the designation DAR Ancestor Number A202892. His great great grandfather Alexander Breckinridge was the Scottish immigrant who fled to America. Genealogy and related documents will be provided for inspection with the revolver and will be part of the purchase package. Loading lever, barrel, frame, wedge, iron trigger guard and iron backstrap all having matching numbers with the cylinder being numbered 41195. British proofs found left side of barrel as well as each chamber on cylinder. A lot of the original finish is present with the loading lever and plunger having silvered out and the cylinder showing dragline. There are tool marks present both sides of barrel and the bore shows very nice rifling. Smooth walnut grips show light indentations and a few scratches, hammer spring is slightly weak. Naval engagement scene present on cylinder with some areas of flash pitting.

.36 cal, s/n 6502, BP revolver, brl length 7.5", single action percussion, very good condition, Manufactured in 1862 the revolver is listed in the Colt Shipping Records in Book 2, page 113. It did not go directly to the Navy but is listed as Government proofed and sent to Kansas. It was apparently shipped in the standard configuration and was decorated and inscribed upon arrival or sometime later. Appears to have been gold washed or copper flashed for tin. Much evidence in protected areas and very thin otherwise. The back strap is engraved "Presented to Capt J. C. Febiger". Admiral John Carson Febiger entered the Navy as a Midshipman from Ohio in 1838 and was on the Concord of the Brazil Squadron when she was wrecked on the eastern coast of Africa in 1843. He became passed Midshipman in 1848 and Lieutenant in 1848. He was for some years in the Coast Survey Service and in the East Indian Squadron. In 1863 he was commissioned Commander and assigned to the Kanawha of the Watson Gulf Blockading Squadron. After commanding various vessels in that and the Mississippi Squadron he was assigned to the Matabeset of the North Atlantic Squadron in 1864 and in that steamer took part in the fight between the little fleet of wooden vessels and the Confederate Ram Albemarle in the Albemarle Sound. In this engagement the ram was defeated and her tender, the Bombshell captured and Febiger was commended for his gallantry and skill by Rear Admiral Lee. He was made Captain in 1868 and Commodore in 1874. He was promoted to Rear Admiral February 4, 1882 and July 1, 1882 was retired on his own application having been in the service over forty years. All information to be included with revolver. All serial numbers are matching with the barrel frame, trigger guard and backstrap having full numbers, the cylinder, wedge and cylinder pins all have the last three numbers present 502. markings appear as follows, "C" left side of barrel with an "O" just below trigger guard serial number. There is an "L" & "H" located just to the right of the serial number on the cylinder. The top of the barrel reads "-- ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA --" with some areas being light. Left side of frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" in two lines with left side of trigger guard being marked "36CAL". The bore shows nice rifling with very light pitting in some areas having a blade front sight and smooth walnut grips showing little wear being slightly undersized. The naval engagement scene on the cylinder is faint in some areas but present with some freckling. The brass trigger guard and backstrap have a very nice patina with the backstrap having a slightly darker patina. The barrel and frame both show a few areas of light freckling. Fantastic example of a Government proofed presentation Colt revolver.

.36 cal., s/n 105704, BP revolver, brl length 7.5", single-action percussion, good condition, Manufactured 1861 and presented to Col. Charles Carroll Marsh. C. Carroll Marsh was a Union Army officer during the American Civil War. He served with distinction early in the war at Battles of Fredericktown, Fort Henry, Fort Donelson, Shiloh and Corinth where he commanded the 20th Illinois Infantry Regiment. He joined Ulysses S. Grant's expedition to Fort Henry and later publicly professed his confidence in General Grand when he and others presented Grant with an ivory handled sword. He later transferred to command the 1st Brigade in John A. Logan's 3rd Division of the XVII Corps in the opening stages of Grant's First Vicksburg campaign. Colonel Marsh resigned on April 22, 1863. The revolver is engraved on the right side barrel flat "Col. C. C. Marsh" with full serial number present on barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The last four digits "5704" are present on the loading lever and cylinder pin with the wedge not being numbered to the revolver. The cylinder retains the naval engagement scene showing scattered tool marks with a dark gray mottled patina. The top barrel flat is marked "--ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U. S. AMERICA--" in a single line with left side of frame marked "COLTS/PATENT' in two lines. The brass back strap and trigger guard show assorted tool marks with the walnut grip standing slightly proud having lines grooved either side with heavy indentations underside of butt. All metal surfaces show a dark mottled patina with freckling and pitting present on top of blast shield and hammer. Brass post front sight. Bore is slightly dark showing rifling and pitting. This is a very historic Civil War Colt Navy revolver that was in some very historic battles of the war. Comes with a binder containing C. C. Marsh promotions, muster roll and 20th IL Infantry Regiment Assignments.

The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA." in a single line with a fluted cylinder marked "PAT SEPT 10th 1860" in the flute between chambers. Left side of frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" very lightly stamped in two lines. Left side of brass trigger guard flat is marked "36 CAL.". All numbers are matching barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, cylinder pin and wedge. Backstrap and trigger guard are brass with silver plating a majority of silver is present on the guard showing a darker tarnish with losses mostly on edges and the backstrap shows traces of finish mostly at top. Screw heads at top of strap still have fire bluing present. Remainder of revolver is mostly in the white with a small amount of freckling and very light handling marks and flash pitting in some small areas. Bore shines bright with nice rifling and only a few areas of very light pitting. Brass bead front sight with notch cut hammer rear. Hammer spur is cross hatch checkered. Sooth walnut grips show some wear with finish losses on bottom edges. Revolver comes with walnut period case that is lined with brown velvet containing a bullet mold, handgun size powder flask embossed with Eagle clutching shield and arrows with 13 stars and crossed revolvers. Along with a W.R.A.C. Hick's percussion cap tin and a package of 5 combustible envelope cartridges for Colt's or Whitney's revolving pocket pistols. Lid latch is broken and lid shows 2 cracks. Fine example of a Civil War Presentation Colt Police revolver.

.36 cal, s/n 7042, BP revolver, brl length 7.5", single action, very good condition, Manufactured 1851 First Year production. This revolver has Germanic scrollwork on a punch-dot background throughout with a serpent engraving either side of hammer typical of the work found done by Louis D. Nimscke for the New York retailer Schuyler, Hartley & Graham. Nickel silver finish is present on all surfaces showing some thinning on barrel, loading lever and some areas of cylinder mostly on one of the ships in the navel engagement scene. Single line barrel address on top barrel flat reads "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY-" with border engraving. Shell engraving either side of back strap at top edge with shell engraving top center. The grips are antique ivory with a bolo/lasso having a shield in the center on the right panel both showing a few age hairlines. All numbers matching barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, loading lever, cylinder and cylinder pin. Wedge is unmarked and retaining screw isn't present. The rifling in the bore shows off well. There are few handling marks present. Very nice example of a New York engraved 1851 Navy.

.44 cal, s/n 5214, BP revolver, brl length 8" round, single action, good plus condition, Manufactured 1861 having the rare fluted cylinder with the correct patent date marking which reads "PATENTED SEPT. 10 in 1860" in the fluted valley between two chambers. This example has the single line barrel marking which reads"-ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT.-" with the left side frame marking present but light in a two line configuration "COLTS/PATENT". Having an iron backstrap with brass triggerguard with numbers matching on barrel, frame, guard, backstrap, rear cylinder face and wedge with the numeral stamping on the frame are dissimilar and the wedge has a missing retaining spring. There are two screw lugs either side of the frame at rear for shoulder stock attachment. The revolver is mostly in the white showing some handling marks and freckling with a few areas of very minor light flash pitting. The bore shows nice rifling and the smooth walnut grips show light indentations with some scratches and are slightly undersized. The cross hatch checkered hammer spur shows thinning and the brass triggerguard shows some handling wear. Nice example of a fluted 1860 Army.

All 4 hammer clicks are audibly noticeable, right grip panel is pencil numbered to the revolver and last 2 digits of serial number are present on the rear cylinder face. Fixed blade front sight with notch rear and a checkered hammer spur with board. Bore shines very bright. Case coloring present on frame with thinning and some very light freckling present. Bluing on the cylinder shows some thinning with 2 small areas of very light pitting around one flute. Bluing on trigger guard and backstrap show some thinning where the hand grips the revolver. The barrel shows a few very light surface scratches left side towards muzzle with a very small spot of freckling with thinning on muzzle edge. Left side of barrel is marked "38 COLT" having standard markings on barrel top and left side frame. Very nice example of .38 colt SAA. 12-1-11

Front face of cylinder has a crown over "PP" and the loading lever is marked with an "FW" at the link. The serial number appears on the barrel, frame and trigger guard with the addition of "49" above the serial number on frame and barrel. Highly engraved relief cut walnut grip panels showing some tool marks at butt end having an engraved brass trigger guard and backstrap in a feathered scroll pattern with a nice overall medium patina. High gloss blued barrel and cylinder with the later being engraved with a front and boarder ring showing thinning toward the back and front ends. The barrel shows off very well some thinning and light freckling showing minimal handling wear. Iron frame loading lever and plunger along with hammer all have a mottled grey patina with the frame being scroll engraved either side flats as well as blast shields with the flats having a line border. The bore is smooth and has a nice shine. The red hue mahogany case appears European with a deep green velvet style lining with 5 compartments an unmarked revolver size flask, 2 bullet brass mold, original key and caps. Lid shows some handling marks. Fine little cased Brevate.

The nickel finish is lifting on the steel barrel toward muzzle end and breech area as well as around Colt marking. The nickel finish on the brass frame appears to be all present showing a few tool marks not through the finish. Majority of the Colt fire bluing still present on small components with visible rifling in bore showing some light pitting. Blade front sight with checkered hammer spur having a border. Birds head walnut grip panels show some handling and are both pencil numbered to the deringer.

Smith & Wesson Pre-World War II Registered Magnum .357 magnum s/n 53336 revolver brl length 8 3/8" Single-Double action Very Good Plus condition The .357 Magnum was introduced in 1935 and was a custom manufactured revolver. This being the first production firearm chambered for the .357 magnum. Each revolver was manufactured to the individual's specifications and stamped with a registration number. This revolver, bearing the number 2647, was shipped July 30, 1937 and delivered to Mr. William R. Kruse, Jersey City, NJ. The records indicate that this revolver was shipped with an 8 3/8" barrel equipped with a Call gold bead front sight, a King white outline rear sight, blue finish, butt swivel and checkered walnut grips. The Smith and Wesson letter also states it was shipped with a special pair of magna grips in a single unit shipping order and it was billed at $39.00. The registration card and magna grips are not present but the letter will be included. There were approximately 5,500 Registered Magnums ever built and this is a fine example having the correct sights and butt swivel, the hammer spur is checkered with the sides being serrated. The trigger is also serrated and both show a lot of case coloring present. The cylinder release along with the top barrel rib and top strap are all checkered. The back strap and front strap are serrated and there is a light dragline present. The bore shines bright and the bluing is crisp with some very light handling surface scratches pesent, a few small ones on either side of barrel as well as left side of frame. There is a very small amount of freckling just in front of cylinder on right side of frame with a few small areas of loss at muzzle and a few edges. Fantastic example of a Pre-war Registered Magnum.

Winchester Model 1886 Deluxe .45-70 s/n 141277 rifle brl length 26" octagonal lever action Very Good Plus Manufactured in 1907, received in warehouse October 3. The rifle is correct to the letter, having a fancy walnut checkered pistol grip stock and forend. With stock removed the left side of the lower tang is marked "400XX" with to top of the stock underneath the top tang is marked "400". It also has a "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO." grip cap with an engraved screw head retaining it, with a crescent steel butt plate. Appears untouched original condition with the wood showing light handling both side with nice fitment to metal standing proud in most areas and the checkering having a double line border. The sights are fixed front with adjustable folding rear graduated to 30. The bluing has started to patina to a nicely toned brown in some areas and thinning in others mostly on the receiver from carrying and edges of barrel and forend tip. At one time a sling was installed as the forend tip has the threaded recess for a swivel acceptance and the rear underside of buttstock has been plugged. There are a few areas of very light freckling and flash pitting with only a couple of very light minor tool marks. Very nice example of an 1886 Deluxe. No Cody letter present but it would state: Caliber: 45/70, Barrel Type: Octagon, Trigger: Plain, checkered stock, pistol grip as is correct to the rifle

Carefully Looking This Carbine-Orig. Engravd by ULRich Buttplate Early style. Action Schohesll and Boader - are - Correct to the carbine - Left side plate appeared. and old Replacement and Has been Eng. To Match The balance of the Eng." on one side and on the reverse it reads (quoted exactly) "MR. Madis also. Said - Records Very Few - 1866. Modll were Engraved - this Low Number. Few have SoRRived A good Collector - Win. (Have Letter Form Mr. Geo. Madis Stting this - ManuFactured - 1870." The owner is deceased and no letter is present just the tag. The top of the barrel is marked with two line address which reads "WINCHESTER'S - REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S - IMPROVEMENT - PATENTED - MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860". There is also a folding two position rear sight marked "5" over "3" with the serial number being marked bottom tang under lever in a flowing banner. The top of the brass butt plate is scroll engraved having a hinged door for cleaning rod with assorted tool marks. The top of tang and top of frame is engraved with scroll work having feathered lines in a border showing some indentations from tool marks. The right side of the frame and side plate are scroll engraved with a floral motif in single line border showing scattered tool marks. The left side of frame and side plate are engraved with a scroll florette pattern having a stag present on the side plate with a double line circular border showing some tool marks present, heavy on the front side. The brass patina on the frame is darker toward the rear with both side plates having a slightly lighter patina. The saddle ring is present on the left side of the rear frame. The hammer spur is checkered and there is a full length tube magazine with two barrel bands, the front band has an integral sight. Metal surfaces have a medium to dark brown patina throughout with some very light tool marks present. The walnut forend shows some very small losses with a few small hairline cracks. The smooth walnut butt stock has a crack at either side of the tang with the one on the left side having traveled rearward halfway back along the grain. There is a loss right top side at frame with a repair at the toe, showing some scattered handling marks, with a few small hairline cracks at the butt plate.

.44 wcf., s/n 502202, rifle, brl length 24.25" octagonal barrel, lever-action, very good plus condition, Manufactured 1896 with the right side barrel flat at frame reading in a single line "V" in crown "GP" in crown "44 1-30" 33-200 NOT ENGLISH MAKE" in border. The top of the bolt is also marked with a British proof "V" in crown. The rifle is fitted with the rare seven leaf folding express sights with each leaf being numbered top right corner one through five with the sixth one not having a number present and the last being a graduated seven through ten having a folding Beaches combination front sight and a set trigger. The rifle appears to have been professionally refinished at some point with a crisp caliber marking and barrel address label. The model designation stamping is slightly light at the beginning with the caliber marking on the brass lifter being only the slightest bit light with the upper portion of the "C" being very faint. Full length tube magazine and a bore that shines with nice rifling and a few spots of very light pitting. The hammer spur is checkered in a border. The butt plate has a sliding brass door for cleaning rod storage. The smooth straight grip walnut stock and forend has a semi-high gloss finish with minimal wear, tight fitment and a very small almost unnoticeable repair left side heel at butt plate corner. Leather period sling with brass buckle. The metal surfaces all show almost no wear with a small amount of flash pitting left side plate and frame along with right side of frame top front area. the mottled blue/brown finish shows minor thinning on some edges and the forend tip.

.22 rf, s/n NSN, rifle, brl length 22" octagonal, pull ring action, good plus condition, This unusual rifle is believed to be in the production prototype phase. Manufactured by Snieder Arms. Co. Baltimore MD. the top of receiver is marked with three patent dates below the two line Manufacturing mark. The dates are Dec. 17th 1889, Dec. 17th 1889, March 4th 1890. The rifle is loaded by pulling up on a steel lug set into the right side of the barrel, twelve rounds are then loaded into the tubular magazine and returned to battery. The trigger guard contains the trigger and charging ring by pulling the ring the carrier moves right to pick up a new cartridge then travels across the rifle right to left ejecting spent casing and inserting fresh round into chamber. There is also a takedown lever located on the left side of frame with lock up being a touch loose. The frame is brass having a very nice toned mottled patina throughout with all areas except for left side plate showing very little to no wear. The left side plate has numerous tool marks scattered throughout some deeper than others. The walnut checkered straight grip stock and forend show few scuffs and slight loss at toe where the butt plate is damaged also. The left side of the forend has a crack and there are scattered indentations throughout. Finish on metal surfaces show thinning on edges with scattered light freckling and a few very light surface scratches. The right side barrel flat is numbered 3 through 12 with the lesser number starting at front of rear sight base. Sights are fixed and fitted into dovetails and the bore has shine with visible rifling. Unique little rifle with a very interesting action.

J. Stevens Arms Company, Tool Room Prototype breech block folding rifle

.32 rf, s/n NSN, rifle brl length 23", interchangeable breech block action, very good condition, Extremely unusual brass frame folding rifle, The rifle has a sliding forend using a barrel and stud mounted screw to secure it to the barrel allowing the rifle to fold completely over onto itself also being notched out for the triggerguard. The rifle uses a two shot breech block with each chamber having a tapered cone to allow for proper seating in the barrel. To operate you depress a lever mounted to the right side of the frame, break open the action and insert an already loaded block, then return to battery and fire, break open the action again, move the block to the next chamber, close and repeat. There is an extractor for ejecting spent casings but it is unclear how this functions. There is also a very unusual sliding transfer bar which allows the user to pick the point of impact on the rear of the casing to fire the round. Overall a very unique design. The rifle is fitted with a two position rotating rear brass sight fitted into a dovetail with a brass blade style front which is also fitted into dovetail being void of a bead. The stock is a smooth straight grip walnut with a steel crescent rifle butt plate where at the top is located a hinged lidded compartment believed to hold an extra chamber as its interior taper matches the one on the block. The forend is smooth walnut also. The wood shows wear mostly on the butt stock with some indentations most noticeable where the forend screw rests on the underside when folded. The brass has a patina that varies from bright at the edges of the trigger guard to an orange/light brown mottled. The tapers on the chamber block show light freckling while the barrel has a light grey/brown mottled patina with a few areas of very light surface pitting toward muzzle end. Bore shines bright with nice rifling. 12-1-12

LONDON" in a single line. There are three stacked proof marks underside of barrel as well as one right side of frame. Engraved flower motif screw heads located at rear of tang as well as both butt plate retaining screws. The barrel slides forward to load a round and to extract with an addition left side frame mounted extractor lever. Number 1 is located on the underside of the barrel flat along with being marked underside of stock just rear of grip tang. Frame is silver nickel over bras having a mostly rainbow patina with some thinning and a few losses at the back of to tang. Bore shines bright with nice rifling and a few areas of very light pitting. Barrel shows traces of bluing with a mottled patina. Ejector bar, lever and folding rear leaf sight all show traces of Niter bluing. There are a few light tool marks on the edges near the rear sight with minor light handling in some places throughout. Hammer spur is checkered and hammer is slightly loose. Finish on frame shows light surface scratches with very few penetrating finish. Walnut checkered pistol grip stock has steel butt plate and grip cap. Original finish has mostly thinned off cap with a lot of original finish present on plate showing some areas of pitting. Wood shows light scratches and indentations with a small area of heavy indentations just behind the number one marking. Two rear sights with notch rear and notch and peep just in front of that also folds. Front sight is fixed and dovetailed set.

.32 rf, s/n 95, pistol, brl length 3 7/8", rotating barrel single action, very good plus condition, High condition unmarked Dickinson pistol having the unusual lever actuated case extractor mounted to the underside of the octagonal barrel with a solid rib on top where there is also a brass blade front sight. Majority of the bluing is present on the steel barrel showing some light handling surface scratches, freckling and thinning on some edges and at muzzle. The brass frame has a light nickel silver wash with the serial number located underside of butt showing some light surfaces handling and storage discoloration. Smooth walnut grip panel shows light wear with some finish losses and indentations. Bore has faint rifling present with light pitting and the lever is slightly loose but functions as it should. Beautiful example of a early Dickinson lever single shot.

.22 LR, s/n 2494, pistol carbine, brl length 3", 7.5" & 20" barrels, single shot repeater, very good plus condition, Factory 3 barrel set with all barrels serial numbered to the firearm. Also included is the screw attached perch bellied beautifully figured walnut stock having a steel butt plate. The 3" barrel is completely knurled with a blade sight. The 20" barrel is high gloss blued with a wooden forend and dovetailed fixed sight showing scattered freckling. The 7.5" barrel is currently fitted to the pistol having a dovetailed fixed front sight having high gloss bluing. Smooth walnut grip panels are inletted both sides with Mother of Pearl diamonds, the slide is serrated and on the top is a folding peep sight. Left side frame mounted safety, (1) 10 round magazine. The finish on pistol is high gloss blued showing minimal handling wear with some thinning on the edges and backstrap where the shoulder stock is attached. There are a few very light scattered tool marks present with minimal handling wear on stock. Butt plate finish shows off well. The case is leather wrapped with a purple felt lining showing losses to some of the leather and original key is included. Very desirable three barrel cased set. 12-1-10
