There is a hairline at the back of head, complexion overpaint (brows, lashes and lips have original finish), shoulderplate and bisque hands excellent, kid body original but worn, doll is sold as is. Each is of black stockinette with painted facial features, and with original costumes and accessories. He is ink-signed on his foot "made by Mrs. Carlotta Weir, #820 St. Louis St. Vieux Carre, New Orleans, La" and with an attached note that he is named Rastus Brown from the song "better git to work for de rent comes 'round", and noting that a duplicate was made for Mrs. Roosevelt in 1937. She has paper label naming her "Aunt Sophronia, original praline woman", also noting that a duplicate was sent to Mrs. Roosevelt, 1937, and with pencil note, made by Carlotta Weir on petticoat. Very good condition. Circa 1935.

Marks: 208. Excellent condition. Bahr and Proschild, circa 1890, an especially appealing example of the early closed mouth child with gentle expression, endearing size.
