Two hand written letters document this M1911A1 to be property of a decorated Commander Donald Briggs of the USNR during WWII. Excellent to About Perfect condition - pistol - 4" rnd barrel - Pristine Bring Back Black Widow - molded black Bakelite plastic grips with checkering; both grips remain in very good condition with the very slightest wear to right grip - retains about 98% finish with minute loss to muzzle and sharp edges, as well as slight loss balance to caramel spot to left side of receiver, approximately the size of a thumb - visible to right side of barrel appears to have a few very small pin point pits - Markings: crisp & legible- toggle marking "byf", chamber dated with two-digit date of "42", Mauser military proof marks on right side of breech block with Waffenampt 135, "P.08" & "GESICHERT" on left side of receiver, full serial number found; underneath barrel, front of frame, and left side of receiver. Last two digits of serial found matching throughout - Sights: dorsal fin shaped blade dovetail fit on barrel front sight/fixed V-notched rear sight - manufactured by Mauser for German military sales during WWII - This gem has been stored away for over 20 years by consignor, in which he states that this pistol belonged to his Uncle, which he brought back undisclosed to anyone from Germany in 1945 - hard to find one with better bore as this one, it displays an Excellent mirror like bore that upholds consignors belief that this WWII semi-auto pistol remains in unfired condition - mechanics appear to be tight and in good working order - pistol magazine is of a blued metal with black plastic magazine bottom, magazine marked "fxo" with Waffenampt 37 & "P.08"; magazine remains in Excellent condition, appearing to have little to no use - short frame type complete with stock lug, wide trigger, narrow trigger guard, and flat new type toggle knobs - truly one of the best condition Nazi Era Lugers you will ever find! - Yr. Stock and forearm show multiple repaired cracks and large gouge to left side of wood at along lower tang - overall retains about 35%+ finish balance to soft grey patina - Markings: crisp to legible- upper tang marked "MODEL 1876", lower tang marked with serial number, caliber marked on elevator floor plate - Sights: fixed blade integral with block front sight/adjustable special order "Military wind gauge" rear sight graduated from 2-10 marked on right side - Third Model design dust cover with serrated finger grips and forged dust cover guides - as per Cody Firearms Records, this rifle is one of few that was received in warehouse on November 06, 1883 held in warehouse with caliber changed from 45/60 to 45/75 and shipped in from warehouse on May 19, 1885 - shares characteristics of the Northwest Mounted Police with no sling swivel, caliber 45/75, rear sight configuration, and stated by Madis in the Winchester 1 of 1,000 book "Not all carbines which were issued to the Mounted Police were marked on the stock" - visible rifling in bore - mechanics appear to be strong and in working order - Yr.
