Rare WW1/WW2 Transitional Double Decal Austrian "Berndorfer" Helmet

Not many of these Berndorf maker marked helmets were produced. This example has pre/early WW2 Heer double decals. The finish is typical for a transitional double decal helmet shell. The rear flange has the stamped "Bear" maker mark. There is not a liner or liner band present. The front visor flange has a battle as pictured. A rare helmet in any condition!

Rare Pre WW2 DLV Pilot's Club Award Trophy For Best Pilot

Constructed of thin sheet brass with chrome plated finish with metal Laurel leaves. There is a hallmark on the bottom. It has a removeable top. This award trophy most likely stayed in the clubhouse and each year the new winner's name would be engraved on the side. The name Freidrich Dilthey is on the trophy twice and Hans Kinci once. UnterOfficer Dilthey was shot down in 1940 during the Battle of Britain and after ditching his Messerschmidt in the English Channel he was picked up by the British and became a POW for the remainder of the war. The last photo shows Dilthey's plane in the Channel. Rare trophy!

Rare Pre/Early WWII German Shooting Association Cutlass-Alcoso

Classic example of a shooting cutlass by Alcoso. Aluminum base fittings with bright nickel plating. Cross guard has acorn ends and a textured clamshell with a wreath consisting of oak and laurel leaves in raised relief. In the center mounted with 2 rivets it has the insignia of the "Deutscher Schutzen-Verband"/German Shooting Association. Blade is etched on both sides and etching is still fairly crisp. Original green felt scabbard throat washer is still present. Grooved Celluloid/Bakelite grip has crossed rifle insignia attached. The grip does have a crack and is still strong. The cross guard has a slight wiggle. The leather scabbard with nickel plated fittings is in very fine condition. In overall very fine collectible condition! These are quite scarce!

WW1 Period Honor Medal Award/Display Case W/Iron Cross 1st Class/Gallipoli Star

Leatherette covered case having a dark blue felt interior with impressions for the Iron Cross 1st Class, A parade mount ribbon (Not included) and the Gallipoli Star. The EK1 is 3 piece construction with magnetic center and is not hallmarked. The Gallipoli Star is multi piece construction and has what appears to be a starburst hallmark on the pin which could attribute Zimmermann as the maker. The detail is extremely fine on this star and enameling is chip free. We have tried to research the Gallipoli Star extensively and believe it to be an original but please bid based on your own knowledge/expertise and/or research.

Quality tailored example. Mustard brown wool body with yellowish ribbed wool lapels-All buttons are present and are the scarcer small diameter buttons not usually found on overcoats. There is an ink stamp on the interior lining which appears to be "WIEN" indicating Austrian tailor made. There are a few small noticeable moth nips on the back of the left but do not detract from display.

Pebbled aluminum alloy buckle shows only minor wear to high relief areas. It is maker marked with the Assmann "A" and is dated 1936. The leather tab has the Assmann maker stamping and is dated 1941. The tongue of the tab has unit stampings.

Dagger grip with chrome plated fittings and brown pear wood grip. Aluminum grip eagle with crisp detail still remaining to the high relief areas. Bright double edged steel blade still retains a lot of the original factory cross graining with a few gray age spots and the typical scabbard runner marks. Crisply etched motto still retaining most of the original light gray burnishing. It is maker marked RZM M7/37 for the high quality maker of Robert Klaas. Dark brown painted scabbard with chrome finish fittings is in extremely fine condition. Leather hanger with scarce RZM M5/28c maker mark for the firm of Julius Dinnebier Nachf., Lüdenscheid.

The Quellenhof Hotel was, and still is, located in Aachen, Germany. There was a Nazi Headquarters located in Aachen. Both have the early style Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler engraved monogram. In 1936, the hotel opened the largest thermal spa hall in Europe. Sadly, however, the spa and the Quellenhof were badly damaged during World War II. While the structure of the hotel remained mostly intact, all belongings and furniture were confiscated or plundered during the war. We believe these pitchers were part of that plunder as the LAH was part of the defense during the Battle of Aachen. Please bid based on your own expertise and/or research.

Steel scabbard is dent free and in excellent condition.

There are 2 "cracks" at each wing where they meet the body with one of the cracks appearing to have been nicely repaired.

"William Avalon Parker was killed in a helicopter accident when the aircraft crashed into the sea. The actual crash site was approximately 700 feet offshore. Four survivors of the crash were rescued by a speedboat. William Parker expired as a result of the crash. His body was recovered 20 minutes later by swimmers in the area."

Air medal and DFC in USMC/USN issue cases and original cardboard mailing boxes. There are several Gold ribbon stars-RARE VMF-113 "Whistling Devils" Squadron Patch and a WW2 period USMC utility knife -This group is named to 1st. Lt. Kirtland Flynn Jr.....Lt. Flynn is reported to have been KIA in a training flight after his aircraft was involved in a mid air collision with another F4F on January 16, 1945 over the Marshall Islands. Flynn also has one aerial victory to his credit.......Now for a little history---VMF-113 was activated on January 1, 1943 at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro as part of Marine Base Defense Air Group 41. They were shortly given their full complement of 24 F4U Corsairs. After training for most of 1943, the squadron set sail from San Diego on September 28, 1943 headed for Hawaii. Upon their arrival the aircraft were sent to Marine Corps Air Station Ewa for their final round of training. In January 1944, the squadron learned they would be participating in the reduction of the remaining Japanese garrisons in the Marshall Islands. They soon set sail for Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands and then quickly moved to Kwajalein and finally began operating from Engebi on February 27, 1944 as part of the 4th Base Defense Air Wing. While there they were also responsible for attacking Japanese positions in the western Caroline Islands. On March 26, 1944, while escorting 4 B-25 bombers on a raid over Ponape, the squadron recorded their first enemy kills when they down 8 Japanese aircraft. In April of that year they were tasked with providing air support for the landings at Ujeland. Since the assault was unopposed the squadron quickly returned to striking Japanese targets in the Marshall Islands for the remainder of 1944.On May 6, 1945, VMF-113 landed on Ie Shima as part of Marine Aircraft Group 22 (MAG-22) to support operations during the Battle of Okinawa. The next day the squadron saw its first action since early 1944 when a mass kamikaze raid came after the US fleet assembled for the invasion of the island. The squadron moved to Okinawa in July 1945 and remained there for the remainder of the war. The squadron accounted for 20 enemy aircraft shot down during the course of their involvement in World War II.

The airman, has painted his name, H. Wallace on the bill of the cap. On the front he painted 12 bombs indicating missions and the name of his aircraft (B-26 Marauder) "Blind Date", 397th Bomb (M) on the front. On the left side he has period painted the names of different areas/cities that are most likely where the bombing runs occurred. The cap does show wear and some tears to the leather. The B-26 Medium bomber "Blind Date" Fuselage number 42-96201 was shot down over Belgium on December 23, 1944. In researching the crew, Wallace was not listed so we are guessing he was a member of the Ground Crew or later replacement to the air crew. You see painted A-2 jackets much more often! Extremely rare item!

You just don't come across WW2 period USN and/or USMC pilot/air crew leather jackets with artwork. An amazing M442 leather flight jacket named to a Grumman TBF/TBM Avenger Torpedo Bomber Turret Gunner with the last name of McCullum as is painted on the left breast. It is hard to make out the lettering above and below his last name. On the right breast pocket is an embroidered squadron patch "Carrier Clowns" that was the insignia used by pilots and crew who were assigned to Torpedo Squadron 18. This patch is listed as one of the top 100 scarcest USN/USMC squadron patches to acquire. The reverse has a period painted TBM Avenger Torpedo Bomber Aircraft releasing a torpedo with the hand painted squadron designation "Torpedo 18" Front Talon zipper functions smoothly. The mouton collar shows normal period wear. The waist and cuff bands show some discoloration and minor wear. The last photo is a digital photo we found showing the pilots of Torpedo Squadron 18. 15 members of this squadron were awarded the Navy Cross! An extremely rare offering!

A-2 leather flight jacket & khaki 4 pocket tunic, both named to 2nd Lt. J.F. Miazga. Miazga was a bombardier assigned to the 443rd Bomb Squadron of the 320th Bomb Group. Miazga flew on the B-26 Marauders. The jacket has Miazga's leather name strip with a hand painted bombardier wing in yellow above and a very nice example of a leather squadron patch with the 443rd's insignia. It is of incised construction. The right front breast has another leather hand painted patch depicting Miazga's B-26 Marauder. The left shoulder has an incised leather 12 AAF patch. Leather body is still supple. Knit waist and cuff bands show normal period wear. The cuff bands appear to have been period replaced. It is a size 38 by Aero Leather. The zipper is missing the pull tab and the starter side is missing the zipper guide. Khaki 4 pocket Class A tunic , which is also named to Miazga has a 12thAAF patch on the right shoulder and a AAF Headquarters patch on the left shoulder. AAF officer's U.S. and winged propeller insignia on the lapel and 2nd Lt. rank bars on each epaulet. Just above the left breast pocket is a very intricate bullion embroidered, theater made Bombardier's wing. This jacket does have some light scattered mothing. Amazing grouping!

Named to USMC Officer Merritt B. Curtis. Curtis was commissioned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on August 10, 1917. He went up the ranks and during WW2 he was promoted to Colonel and then Brigadier General. This is the sword he carried WW1 through WW2. Grip is "bone" Double side engraved blade is in very good condition. Scabbard is also in very good condition. The "bone" grip does have a couple of hairline cracks and are superficial for the most part. Rare named USMC General's sword! After WW2 General Curtiss ran for the office of President of the United States under the Constitution Party in 1960. Loads of info if you choose to research.

Samurai sword with bring back papers. This sword was either sent to USMC Colonel/Brigadier General Merritt B. Curtis or he personally had it shipped to the U.S. as the tag has his rank as Colonel and he was promoted to Brigadier before WW2 ended. Older handmade blade with nice temper line. The tang is not signed. The tang peg hole appears to be punched rather than drilled as later blades were. Original wooden shipping box is included.

Early 20th Weather Squadron Patch

Painted decal applied to a canvas like material. We believe this to be the early version Squadron Insignia. The 20th Weather Squadron activated at Cairo, Egypt, on April 15, 1943, and was assigned to the Ninth Air Force, but was soon thereafter disbanded on October 31, 1943. The Army Air Forces again activated the 20th on December 6, 1944, on Biak Island in what was then known as the Netherlands East Indies, today’s Indonesia. The 20th absorbed the resources and mission of the 5231st Weather Squadron (Provisional). The 20th was assigned to the Far East Air Forces Weather Group (Provisional) at that time. In May 1945 the squadron moved its headquarters by from Biak Island to Fort McKinley near Manila, Philippines. By the close of July 1945, the squadron had grown to more than 700 men and the headquarters was overseeing the work of 34 weather stations, many of which were in isolated locations.

Titled "In Memory Of My Cruise In Philippine Islands" There is a period photo of the U.S. Army Transport Sheridan at the bottom and a period photo of a soldier in uniform. It is hard to determine if it is a USMC or Army soldier. The USAT Sheridan was one of 6 US Armory transport ships that carried the China Marines across the Pacific during this time frame.

First, The visor cap and 4 pocket class A jacket are by the same tailor/supplier, The Sol Frank Company of San Antonio, Texas. Jacket is in excellent condition showing only minor soiling. One lower front button has come loose and is in the pocket. The jacket is named to J.A. Ketting. 1st Lt. pin back rank-AAF Officer's collar insignia. The 8th Army Air Force is the English Made "Stubby" wing variant. Very nice theater made 2 tone bullion embroidered pilot wing. The ribbon bars are directly sewn to the jacket. Officer's long sleeve "pinks" shirt and OD green wool tie are both in excellent condition. The visor cap is also in excellent condition. When displayed on a mannequin this ensemble makes for a sharp display!

Officer quality light weight wool tunic. The left shoulder has an extremely scarce ASC bullion and silk embroidered on wool base patch. Also, the left sleeve has a wound stripe and bullion embroidered service stripes. The collar insignia for transportation are the cut out officer's style and are pin back. The right sleeve is a multi piece construction 8th grade Company Supply Sergeant rank with a silk thread embroidered Transportation insignia with bullion border in the middle. This is also an extremely scarce patch. There are signs of minor moth holes with the most significant at the top front pocket bottoms. Uniform still displays superbly! Scarce patches!

Amazing Grouping! Named to Captain Brian E. Abbot. The 862nd Bombardment Squadron was assigned to the 493rd Bomb Group which was the last 8th AAF group to be activated. Their first mission was June 6, 1944…D-Day! Grouping consists of Abbot's training class "yearbook" pamphlet, a Graduation photo and graduation announcement/invitation cards. Also included are 2 crew photos. The photo with the crew posing in front of their bomber has writing identifying the crew on the back. A certified copy of Abbott's DD-214 indicates that he was the 862nd's Squadron Commander. Misc. AAF/8TH AAF patches including an English made 8th patch. The full size pilot wings are pin back with sterling hallmark. Cased air medal with full wrap brooch. Cased Distinguished Flying Cross with typewritten award criteria. There is a silk handkerchief with the embroidered 8th AAF insignia.

Jacket has civilian U.S. Automotive Advisor patch on left shoulder. Shell shows soiling. Talon zipper has been modified as it appears as the front zipper "flap" does not hide it. It has also been sewn slightly uneven at the knit wool collar. The contract tag is not present. We believe this to be an original WW2 period jacket that has had the zipper modified. Please bid though, based on your own knowledge and/or research.

High quality hat with maker stamp of "Southcomb-Balitimore" Most likely worn by an officer. Shows light fading and very faint traces of moth tracking. Sweat band stitching is mostly intact. This is the model with the metal chin strap grommets. Chin strap is not present. The insignia appears to be Span-Am period.

The visor cap wool body and leather visor with leather chin strap is also in excellent condition with the exception that the visor has been period re-stitched/repaired. Maker is Jacob Reed's Sons.
