This is an incredible find! 100 vintage reproductions of a poster intended to help raise money for the 1933 - 1934 Chicago Century of Progress World's Fair. As far as we know, this poster design was never used and has not been released to the public. The poster is titled "Chicago World's Fair Centennial Celebration - 1933." At the bottom it says — "Be an original signer." We believe signers were the people who donated money to help build the Fair itself. The poster measures approximately 21 × 29½. The colors are vivid and striking. The design is extremely appealing, depicting a crowd of fair-goers under an arch leading to an Oz-like city in the clouds - perhaps a reference to the first Chicago World's Fair in 1893 known as the "White City." There is no signature by an artist, only the initial "CM" in the lower right corner signed in the plate. The condition of this reproduction poster is mint — perfect for a dealer, gallery, flea marketer or framer!

Jerry Schurr's rugged landscape prints of the Western United States have achieved tremendous popularity over the past decade. Trained as a painter at the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia born Schurr began to make serigraphs in 1971. Since then Schurr has developed a complex reduction method of silkscreen printing that is as precise and difficult to master as the extraordinary multi-leveled imagery of his complicated vistas. Using as many as 40 colors in a single print, Schurr works from a single large screen to which he applies stencils of the individual image areas. After an area has been printed, that portion of the screen is blocked out, thereby gradually reducing the open stencil area of the screen as the composition slowly builds, layer upon layer, on the paper. Recipient of the prestigious Thouron Prize for Painting in 1966, Schurr also won the Eugene Feldman Memorial Prize in 1977 from the Philadelphia Print Club. His serigraphs are exhibited in many galleries throughout the United States and appear in the collections of the Minneapolis Museum of Fine Arts; Standard Oil of New Jersey; Scott Paper Company and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Currently, Schurr divides his time between painting and maintaining an active silkscreen workshop in Philadelphia.

Kaoru Saito is basically self-taught in the mezzotint process, yet he is considered to be one of its most accomplished technicians. It is an extremely difficult, labor-intensive and rarely practiced print method, including scratching hundreds, if not thousands of passes across a metal plate until the entire surface has a rough, uniform texture. The plate would print solid black if it were now run through the press. A burnishing tool is then used to rub smooth the areas which will print from gray to white. Mezzotint rewards the skilled practitioner with subtle shading and incredible graphic detail. Images in this series that include color were printed with additional, aquatint plates. Saito, now in his 70s, was born and still lives in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan.
