Bisque shoulderhead with blonde sculpted hair drawn away from face in short curls at the back held by black headband, painted features, blue up-glancing eyes, closed mouth with prim expression, early muslin stitch-jointed body, new kid arms. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1880, the doll is known as Alice in Wonderland for its resemblance to Alice as depicted by John Tenniel, the early British illustrator of Alice in Wonderland book. The doll wears wonderful costume in the Alice style, with pocket watch on chain.

A lace veil extended around the back of her hair, forming into a shawl, and draping luxuriously to the ground in a graceful side sweep, with coronet of Dresden flowers in hair and on veil hem, and a bouquet of flowers in her hands. In each print the people are dressed in very stylish costumes a la model. The parlor scene indicates that being shown are "costumes d'enfants des Magasins du Louvre" (costumes from the Parisian department store of Au Louvre).
