The mahogany chest appears as a tall boy with six drawers, which actually hide a baby bathtub. By "opening" the top drawer, the entire front folds down revealing the baby bathtub along with water receptacle at the back wall with spigot, handled pot, and a large selection of various wooden jars (all attached to the shelves). The cabinet was likely designed as a traveling salesman's sample to demonstrate its functionality. Excellent condition. Very rare and intriguing. Late 1800s.

Marks: 1428 5. Generally excellent, original body and body finish, left arm scuffed. Simon and Halbig, circa 1910. Wonderful expression with well-defined eye crinkles and laughter lines around the mouth.
