1991 Golf GTi Rivage Cabriolet 1991 Golf GTi Rivage Cabriolet

1991 Golf GTi Rivage Cabriolet

Lot #201 (Sale Order 2 of 63)

Charity lot offered at No Reserve - all proceeds to go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association
  • One of only 470 UK-supplied, limited editions of the Golf GTi convertible known as the 'Rivage'

  • Available only in metallic blue or green, fitted with a 5-speed gearbox and 'Le Castellet' forged alloys

  • Finished in Inca Blue with a blue cloth interior, fitted with Recaro seats and a powered Mohair hood

  • 77,134 miles supported by the MOT history, the service records and a number of invoices

  • The very desirable Cherished Number (J4 LOL) is generously included with the car

  • NB. The entire proceeds from this sale, including any Silverstone Auctions fees, are going to the South Yorkshire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The VW Golf is surely one of the most iconic ‘hot-hatches' ever conceived. Its popularity has never diminished and a plethora of variants and styles have always been hungrily anticipated and universally enjoyed by the car's cult following all of whom treasure the next instalment from Volkswagen, the hot-hatch giant.

Whilst many motorists today appreciate the exhilaration of roof-down ‘wind-in-your-hair' motoring, few are willing to forego the comfort of a saloon car in order to enjoy it, however,  the Golf GTi Convertible, introduced in 1980, made any such sacrifice unnecessary being designed and built by one of the world's most experienced builders of open-touring cars - Karmann of Osnabrück. With the hood up these little cars were remarkably draught free, lower the hood and you were ready to take advantage of every moment of sunshine which a British summer could muster.

The Golf GTi Rivage was a run-out model of the legendary Mk1 GTi Convertible, enhancing the appeal of the car with metallic blue or green paint, heated Recaro cloth seats, Le Castellet forged alloy wheels, powered mohair hood and a five-speed gearbox. With its sub-10 second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 108mph, the Rivage was clearly no ordinary Golf convertible.

Finished in Inca Blue and benefiting from all the usual Rivage features, this lovely example dates from 1991 and was purchased from its first owner by the wife of our vendor in 1996 and subsequently registered to her husband, our vendor.  The car was placed on a SORN in 2018 and is currently in very nice condition with a warranted 77,134 miles indicated. It is supplied with all its previous MOT Test Certificates, the service and owners' handbooks and is fitted with a Blaupunkt radio/cassette player and the usual security systems. The very desirable cherished number (J4 LOL) is generously included with the car.

Please note that the whole of the sale proceeds, including any Silverstone Auctions fees, from this car are going to the South Yorkshire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE ASSOCIATION (MNDA)

small

Motor Neurone Disease affects around 5,000 people a year in the UK.  With MND, messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. MND is life-shortening and there is no cure. The MNDA strives to support all those living with this devastating disease.

The South Yorkshire Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association is run entirely by volunteers and aims to provide the best possible support to local people with MND, their families, and carers. It has been fundraising and raising awareness of MND in and around Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster for over 20 years. The proceeds of its fundraising effort is directed towards a wide range of support activities and equipment purchase and also includes the provision of qualified care visitors, financial support for carers and family, benefits advice, living adaptations and most importantly towards the area of research in an effort to find the cause of MND and ultimately a cure. The Associations motto is “A World Without  MND”

1991 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 1991 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9

1991 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9

Lot #202 (Sale Order 3 of 63)

The definitive 80s 'Hot Hatch' with 35,300 miles from new
  • Superbly presented ‘Phase 2’ car in classic Cherry Red with 35,300 miles

  • UK-supplied in early June 1991 by Summersdale Peugeot in Chichester

  • Smart, unmolested interior in black half-leather and Monaco Tweed cloth

  • Full-service history with 21 stamps in the book. Every service invoice from new

  • The most recent service (June 2019) included a cambelt/water pump change

  • The MOT is valid until August 2020, issued with no advisories

  • These landmark cars are becoming increasingly collectable as practical classics

In many people's eyes, the Peugeot 205 was the definitive Eighties hatchback and the most perfect, practical design for a small car ever. Launched in 1983, it was a brilliant rival to the Renault 5 and the Ford Fiesta with its ‘wheel at each corner' design and weighing only 875kg. No wonder it won What Cars magazine Car of the Year in 1983 and was declared Car of the Decade by CAR Magazine in 1990. The 1.6-litre GTi was blessed with brilliant handling and a revvy and eager 105bhp engine, however, the 1.9-litre GTi that followed, although externally and internally similar to its little sister was subtly different in character with 20 more bhp, a wider spread of torque, and was altogether more ‘grown-up’.

Silverstone Auctions know good 205 GTis when we see them. In 2018 we achieved a new world record price for the model, beating the previous highest figure, which we had also again attained the year before. The car presented here may not have covered a similarly tiny mileage to the two record holders, but it’s special in its own way and a worthy addition to our 205 back-catalogue.

This smart example was originally supplied to a Mr K C Tomlins of Hayling island by Summersdale Peugeot in Chichester, West Sussex prior to being first registered in early June 1991. It was serviced at Summersdale for the first 10 years of its life until the owner at the time switched to another nearby Peugeot dealer. Comfortingly, our vendor has all the service invoices going back to the very first service on 21/08/91.

The overall condition of this very low mileage 205 is excellent, having never been restored. The bodywork appears spot-on with only a couple of minor blemishes and the Cherry Red paintwork has been professionally polished and exudes a wonderful shine. The black half-leather, Phase 2 interior is also in great shape with seats and carpets showing minimal wear. The original Clarion stereo and speakers remain in place and, importantly, the original rear parcel shelf has not been modified to take larger, after-market speakers. We understand that all the electrics work just as they left the factory as does the sunroof with all its seals intact. The car is excellent mechanically and during the last three years it has been serviced twice by a well-known Peugeot 205 specialist and set up on a ‘rolling road’. The most recent service, in June 2019, included a cambelt/water pump change.

The only modification to the car is the addition of air conditioning which a former owner sourced from another 205 and had professionally installed by a well-known 205 specialist.

The owner’s file contains the original logbook, service invoices, original stamped service book and two keys.

Overall, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a genuine low-mileage, unmolested 205 1.9 GTi that has patently been cherished and drives really well. The desirability of these cars is now well established and they always attract willing buyers who generally tend to be most keen on low mileage, unmodified cars with a clearly documented service history and in cared for condition which, fortunately, is exactly what we have here.

2003 Maserati 4200 Spyder Cambiocorsa 2003 Maserati 4200 Spyder Cambiocorsa

2003 Maserati 4200 Spyder Cambiocorsa

Lot #203 (Sale Order 4 of 63)

If only the best will do: 2003 Maserati 4200 Spyder Cambiocorsa, 15,278 miles
  • Spectacularly presented in gleaming Rosso Bologna with a Bordeaux hood, 15-spoke silver alloys

  • Classic Maserati interior in Avorio and Bordeaux leather with walnut details, Rosso carpets and that clock

  • Supplied new by Lancaster Ferrari & Maserati Colchester and first registered in January 2003

  • Acquired by our vendor in 2008 at 10,432 miles. Three former keepers. Comprehensive service history

  • Recent services. May 2019 at 15,076 miles (£1,516), February 2018 at 14,780 miles (£672)

  • Replacement clutch, new tyres, wheels refurbed in January 2016 at 14,290 (£3,500)

  • Complete with its original stamped service book, indoor car cover, blue leather wallet and two sets of keys

  • Totally pampered and immaculate. Undoubtedly a best of breed contender

A six-speed manual version of the 4200 Spyder was offered, however, most buyers went for the six-speed F1 Cambiocorsa electrohydraulic paddle-shift transmission with four modes which altered various characteristics (throttle response, traction control, suspension stiffness etc) in order to give the optimum performance for the chosen mode. Mated to Maserati’s ‘Skyhook’ suspension which allowed each damper to react in milliseconds, it added up to a devastatingly rapid cross-country machine which felt even faster than the figures suggested: 385bhp and 332lb/ft; 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds; 178mph top speed.

Supplied new by Lancaster Ferrari & Maserati, Colchester, Essex this stunning 4200 Spyder Cambiocorsa was first registered during January 2003. It was ordered in Rosso Bologna with a Bordeaux hood and 15-spoke silver alloys. The interior is classic Maserati with Avorio and Bordeaux leather, Rosso carpets, Walnut-rimmed steering wheel and door caps and the traditional oval clock. Our vendor is the car’s fourth keeper and acquired it in January 2008 at 10,432 miles. He tells us “I have averaged some 450 miles per annum (in dry weather). I had the chrome replated in Walsall as the Italian chrome doesn't compare. The wheels are completely refurbished and clutch replaced and new tyres two or three years ago”.

The car has a comprehensive service history with the original stamped service book showing regular attention. The most recent service was by JP Performance Cars Ltd of Burntwood at 15,076 miles, in May 2019 (£1,516.33) and prior to that in February 2018 at 14,780 miles (£672.00). JP also serviced the car in April 2016 at 14,290 miles and the account for £3,500 included a clutch replacement. Naturally, the relevant invoices for the above are in the owner’s file alongside earlier invoices and MOTs and the current MOT valid until March 2020. The Maserati has a bespoke car cover, a phonecard, a new blue leather wallet and two sets of keys.

Totally pampered and immaculate. Undoubtedly a ‘Best of Breed’ contender.

1991 BMW 325i (E30) Sport 1991 BMW 325i (E30) Sport

1991 BMW 325i (E30) Sport

Lot #204 (Sale Order 5 of 63)

A collector-quality example with just 6,800 miles
  • The 325i (E30) Sport is a highly desirable 2-door only BMW model with numerous M-Tech upgrades from BMW's Motorsport Division

  • Fitted with the legendary 170bhp M20 2494cc straight-six engine good for 132 mph and 0-60 in 9.9 seconds

  • First registered on 12/06/1991, being a later face-lifted M Technic 2 model, in special order (1991 only) Granitsilber Metallic, and one of the last Sport examples produced

  • UK-supplied via Millcars (BMW) of Hampstead, this hugely original car has covered a fully verifiable 6,794 miles, accompanied by a full book-pack and comprehensive history file

Compact rear-wheel drive saloons were in short supply in the 1980s and consequently, the E30 quickly stood out as something special, being lightweight, refined, and offering unparalleled driving pleasure. The range-topping M3 is now rightly one of the most sought-after sports cars of the last 30 years and can command in excess of £100,000.

With the success of the M3, BMW capitalised on the demand for more sporting E30s, and in 1986 gave the market the ‘325i Sport’, a 2-door only model with numerous ‘M-Tech’ upgrades from BMW's Motorsport Division. These included an M Technic body-kit and boot spoiler, Anthracite headlining (unique to the 325i Sport), a limited-slip differential, M Technic suspension (15mm lower springs and Boge M Technic shock absorbers) and a 5-speed ZF close-ratio gearbox. The car is powered by the legendary M20 2494cc straight-six engine giving 171bhp and 164 lb-ft of torque, good for 132 mph and 0-62 mph time of 9.9 seconds, decently quick but it's really the whole driving experience that impresses so much.

There were two ‘generations’ of the 325i Sport, commonly referred to as a 'Tech-1' (September 1986 - August 1987; pre-facelift model) followed, not surprisingly, by the 'Tech-2' (facelift model).

The car presented here is a UK-supplied RHD 1991 BMW E30 325i Sport (Tech-2) which was first registered on 12th June 1991 having been sold by Millcars (BMW) of Hampstead finished in special order (1991 only) Granitsilber Metallic (Granite Silver; paint code 272).

One of the last ‘Sport’ examples ever produced, this incredibly original car has covered a fully verifiable 6,794 miles with just two previous keepers from new and is accompanied by a full book-pack, original paperwork and a comprehensive history file. This extraordinary car has been preserved in such a rare unmolested condition, it is surely one of the best, low mileage examples out there. Coming from our privateer vendor who bought the car back in 2007 at 5,200 miles, it has been stored well and regularly run-up and serviced. It really is as good as in the photographs and would be the perfect fit for any enthusiast or collector.

(The car wears its correct, original and immaculate BMW cross-spoke alloys wheels, but will come with a set of now extremely rare and sought-after original in-period Alpina alloy wheels, which the first owner specified and preferred.)

1963 Chevrolet Corvette (C2) Stingray Convertible 1963 Chevrolet Corvette (C2) Stingray Convertible

1963 Chevrolet Corvette (C2) Stingray Convertible

Lot #205 (Sale Order 6 of 63)

Fabulous C2 Sting Ray supplied new to Sir Cliff Richard OBE
  • UK-supplied, left-hand drive, second-generation Corvette Sting Ray with 69,083 miles

  • Built in St Louis in early 1963 fitted with a 327ci, OHV V-8, manual gearbox, LSD, and factory Hardtop

  • Registered as 7 EXV on 28/03/1963 to Harry Rodger Webb (Cliff Richard) in Winchmore Hill, London

  • Both the buff and green logbooks remain with the car, the early one has been signed by Cliff (H R Webb) twice

  • Purchased by our vendor in 2012 from Claremont Corvette after they had fully refurbished the car

  • That work included a respray in Sterling Silver, new soft top, carpets, leather seats, clutch, flywheel and tyres

  • Great history file with Logbooks, old MOTs, original stickers, radio manual, V5c and lots of invoices

  • A lovely example of 'America's Sports Car' with fabulous celebrity provenance

Now in its seventh generation, the Corvette began life in 1953 with the C1 - a model that inspired a generation of young Americans and gave the Ford Empire a nine-year headache. However, it was the C2, the immortal Sting Ray produced between 1963 and 1967, that really set Chevrolet's cash registers ringing and left us with the most desired and collectable Corvette to date. Designed by Larry Shinoda under the guidance of the legendary Bill Mitchell, influences on the Sting Ray's unique and unforgettable form are said to include: the E-type Jaguar, a Mako Shark once caught by Mitchell, the 'Q Corvette' concept car of 1957 and the 'Mitchell Sting Ray' design exercise. By the autumn of 1959, elements of the two unique Corvettes had been blended into XP-720 - the design programme that led to the production of the Sting Ray (later changed to Stingray) as we know it.

According to its Chassis Number, this lovely left-hand drive, Corvette convertible emerged from Chevrolet’s St Louis plant in early 1963 fitted with a 327ci, OHV V-8, a four-speed manual gearbox ($188), Positraction rear axle (LSD) $43.05, finished in Silver Blue (912) with a Black Vinyl interior and supplied with an optional Hardtop in body colour ($236). It was immediately shipped to the UK by British and Colonial Motors of St. Martins Lane in London prior to being registered as 7 EXV on 28/03/1963 to a Mr Harry Rodger Webb, perhaps better known as Sir Cliff Richard OBE. Both the ‘Buff’ and Green Log Books remain with the car and the early one has been signed by Cliff (H R Webb) twice, initially when he lived at Winchmore Hill and subsequently when he moved to Upper Nazeing in Essex. Naturally, such a flamboyant motor car has worn different number plates with later owners including AHK 514A, 5 SOO, 959 NOJ and currently 55AFR since 1974.

Our vendor purchased the car in early November 2012 from Claremont Corvette - “The Original Corvette Specialists” for £47,995 and there is a Bill of Sale in the owner's file. There is a further invoice in the file, dated 21/10/12 from Claremont indicating that the Corvette had been substantially refreshed prior to our vendor becoming the car’s proud owner. That work included a full respray in Sebring Silver by ‘MechSpray’ with the hardtop painted to match, a new black convertible top, new period-correct carpets, the worn vinyl seat covers replaced with leather, four new black-wall radial tyres fitted and balanced on repainted wheels, hubcaps re-polished with new spinners, a new clutch and flywheel, the engine compartment valeted, the original air cleaner re-chromed, new electric window switches, gear knob and doorknob and finally, a full pre-sale service.

Since purchasing this very special Chevrolet around seven years ago, Claremont Corvette have been tasked with sundry items of maintenance and enhancement and there are a couple of invoices in the file (23/07/2013 for £2,507.82 and 14/10/2014 for £2,528.72) in return for their care and attention.

As you can see from the photographs, 55 AFR presents well in its coat of Sebring Silver and remains in remarkably fresh condition having been lightly used over the last seven years. The black interior is lightly patinated appearing essentially original apart from the recovered seats and you can’t help wonder how many legends of sixties rock and pop have travelled in these seats and fiddled with the original Delco radio during Cliff’s ownership.

1976 Dax Tojeiro 427 Replica Cobra 5.7 V8 1976 Dax Tojeiro 427 Replica Cobra 5.7 V8

1976 Dax Tojeiro 427 Replica Cobra 5.7 V8

Lot #206 (Sale Order 7 of 63)

A superb and very capable example
  • A former show-winning example, owned by the previous keeper for 27 year, with just 4,000 miles (approx.)

  • Dax has been building Cobra recreations for over 30 years

  • Built and first registered in 1991 with a photographic record of the build

  • Finished in Rouge Alhambra Pearlescent. Replica Halibrand alloy wheels, side exhaust

  • Magnolia hide with maroon piping. Wilton carpet and full tonneau cover. Rosewood steering wheel

  • Cleveland 351 V8 (5.7-litre). Blueprinted, fully balanced, Edelbrock fast-road cam

The hugely charismatic DAX 427 (also known as Tojeiro) has remained the undisputed market leader for more than 30 years and has steadily established itself as a much-sought-after classic sports car in its own right. The car’s enduring popularity owes much to DAX’s policy of continual product improvement and painstaking attention to detail. A philosophy that has clearly shaped every aspect of their cars from its state-of-the-art technical specification, top quality composite body and sumptuous leather interior to its deep-dished Halibrand style wheels, trademark stainless steel side-pipe exhausts and low, wide, purposeful stance.

The car presented here is a 1976 Dax Tojeiro 427 5.7-litre V8 homage to the Cobra, built and first registered in 1991, having covered just 4,000 miles. You get the feeling that whoever decided on this car's specification and colour scheme thought long and hard about every aspect of this show-winner and patently it was worth it. It's finished in a delicious Rouge Alhambra Pearlescent with Magnolia hide piped in Maroon and deep red Wilton carpets which, on paper, sounds a little OTT but in the metal really works and when combined with the stainless side exhausts, chromed tubular bumpers and over-riders, chromed roll-over hoop, alloy stone guards, alloy flip-top fuel filler, Rosewood steering wheel and shiny Halibrands, render this piece of automotive confectionery almost good enough to eat. The details and finish are second to none, whilst the performance, sound and experience are almost indistinguishable from that of a Shelby Cobra.

Offering fantastic value for money, this car has been extremely well cared for and drives as well as it presents. With Dax being still very active with parts, servicing and advice, any new owner will become part of a very special group of enthusiasts who know and promote, via buoyant clubs and gatherings, these cars extremely well. Once you have felt the shove of a 5.7-litre V8 in a lightweight open-top car, you’re hooked! A great car and a real opportunity to buy a very special DAX.

1976 Alfa Romeo Montreal 1976 Alfa Romeo Montreal

1976 Alfa Romeo Montreal

Lot #207 (Sale Order 8 of 63)

A rare, original, right-hand drive Montreal in need of some TLC.
  • An original UK-supplied, right-hand drive Montreal. One of only 155. Warranted 45,495 miles

  • Still in its original Arancio Pastello (AR601) with a Nero interior. Very desirable combination

  • Purchased by our vendor in 1980 with 4,000 miles indicated. Only two previous keepers

  • Dry stored for the last 15 years in our vendor's factory as he couldn't bear to part with it

  • Good original interior with the driver's seat showing very few signs of wear

  • Original owners manual. Cherished number (600 JRL) will stay with the car

In 1967, Alfa Romeo dipped its toe into the Supercar sector by launching the Montreal, named after the Montreal Expo where it made its debut. It was powered by an all-new V8 quad-cam competition-derived power unit with dry-sump lubrication taken from the successful Type 33 sports racer and mated to a 5-speed ZF gearbox. With a capacity of 2,593cc, the V8 featured twin overhead camshafts per bank and produced, via Alfa Romeo/Spica fuel injection and Bosch electronic ignition, 200bhp at 6,500rpm. This provided excellent performance with a top speed of 137mph and 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds. Under the exotic Bertone designed 2+2 coupé coachwork, the Montreal incorporated many stylish features, such as the headlamp eyelids and the NACA duct on the bonnet.

This may have been love at first sight but was certainly an impulsive purchase as, on July 15th 1977, our vendor was in traffic moving slowly down Birmingham's Broad Street when he spotted this gleaming orange Alfa Romeo Montreal right at the front of Ryland's showroom. A close inspection of the car, confirmation of the mileage of 4,000, a discussion about the remarkable colour (Arancio Pastello), and a few quiet moments sitting in the cabin was enough. That was it, cheque book out and the deal was done in just over an hour, we did say that it was love at first sight.

With only two previous owners, stewardship has remained with our vendor to the present day and was used sparingly over the following 27 years until a developing collection of daily drivers rendered it surplus to requirements. His love for this car had not faded so, rather than dispose of it, he considered placing it into hibernation within his factory the better option. Now, some 15 years later, he has decided its time to offer the opportunity of owning this rare, right-hand Montreal to a new custodian. We understand that it was driving very well to the point of storage but has not been run since. This is indeed a project but we feel it's more of a re-commission than a restoration, after all, it was in regular use up to 15 years ago and has remained dry and warm on a mezzanine floor in a working factory. We have decided that it's best to leave the car covered in dust as you see in the photographs rather than wash it allowing potential purchasers to form their own opinion about the amount of work required.

Accompanied by its original handbook, spare wheel and keys, this desirable Montreal is now ready for the next adventure. With low ownership, a warranted 45,495 miles and retaining the registration number 600 JRL, this is a fantastic project. One of only 155 original right-hand drive examples, highly desirable and very collectable, an opportunity that really should not be missed.

2017 Subaru BRZ SE Lux 2017 Subaru BRZ SE Lux

2017 Subaru BRZ SE Lux

Lot #208 (Sale Order 9 of 63)

Immaculate car with one enthusiast owner and only 615 miles from new!
  • Step-sister of Toyota’s GT86 and infinitely more focused

  • 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder boxer engine (197bhp/151lb ft.), 6-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, LSD

  • Post-facelift car with new bumper design, new headlights and rear spoiler

  • Refreshed interior with Alcantara throughout, leather dashboard, Bluetooth and keyless

  • 2017-specification with spring rate and anti-roll bar changes resulting in really crisp turn-in

  • Immaculate in WR Blue Pearl, one enthusiast owner and only 615 miles from new

The Subaru BRZ is the other half of the joint venture that resulted in Toyota launching the GT86 and is undoubtedly the more focused of the duo, with slightly sharper steering, a keener front end and better high-speed damping than the more ‘luxurious’ GT86. However, it would appear that for the majority of buyers, superior dynamics will always come second to a better-equipped cabin, a longer warranty and increased refinement, so it came as little surprise that the plusher Toyota outsold its more focused sibling by roughly five to one. Not one to lie down however, Subaru fought back in 2017 with a mid-life facelift addressing those concerns.

On the inside, a compact 4.2in screen was added to the old-school instrument panel, a new, smaller-diameter steering wheel similar to that applied to the GT86 was fitted and the interior featured Alcantara throughout. For the first time, all BRZs received a 6.1in touchscreen with a Bluetooth-compatible system that acted as the single interface for everything from Sat-Nav (optional) to smartphones.

On the outside, the changes were less obvious: new headlights now featured different day-time running lights, the front bumper sported redesigned side vents and the boot lid benefitted from a tacked-on rear wing.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine was retained, still producing 197bhp and 151lb ft, however, the strength of the engine block was increased, the rocker arms were lightened and friction was reduced on the camshaft. The car's handling was tweaked and for 2017 the front springs were stiffened and the rears softened off, while the opposite was done to the anti-roll bars. This resulted in the front end becoming even ‘pointier’, but the steering was remapped restoring stability and consequently confidence at speed.

Offered here is a virtually brand new, post-facelift, 2017 Subaru BRZ SE Lux in gleaming WR Blue Pearl owned from new by our collector vendor who envisaged himself as the long term custodian of both the special WRC Blue Pearl Subarus in our catalogue. His plans have changed, however, and he now wishes to pursue the purchase of a once-in-a-lifetime Supercar. Only driven on dry days, this sparkling BRZ has never seen rain during the 615 miles covered in his hands. In addition to its pre-delivery inspection in April 2017, a main dealer service was conducted at 585 miles (10,000-mile service and oil change) in January 2019. The manufacturer’s Five-year Warranty is naturally still valid and the car comes complete with all handbooks/manuals and its original Subaru sales brochure.

Despite being absolutely unmarked and with a tiny mileage, this very special BRZ has been guided substantially lower than anything in the market place and represents a real opportunity for a collector or, as we hope, an enthusiast owner.

1981 AC Cobra by RAM 1981 AC Cobra by RAM

1981 AC Cobra by RAM

Lot #209 (Sale Order 10 of 63)

New registration number to be sold with the car BAD 55R. The car is MOT'd and registered as a Jaguar 4.2. It has not been issued an IVA Well-engineered and superbly presented Cobra by RAM
  • The combination of RAM and Reynard resulted in a properly engineered Cobra Replica

  • Donor car was a 1981 Jaguar 4.2 XJ6. Jaguar running gear with the addition of adjustable coil-overs

  • Powered by 350ci (5.7-litre) Chevrolet ‘small-block’ V8 mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox

  • Chrome overriders, wind deflectors, polished aluminium stone guards, single hoop drivers roll-over bar

  • Flip-top fuel filler, side-exit exhausts and 15' Halibrand wheels with black inserts and replica spinners

  • Finished in black and gold with a stunning cream and black interior. Willans harnesses

  • 8,339 miles indicated. Freshly MOT'd, serviced, fully inspected and road tested prior to our sale

Replicas of the legendary AC Cobra built by RAM, although naturally similar in appearance to other Cobra replicas, are totally different under the double-skinned fibreglass shell. Instead of a ladder frame chassis, there is a full space frame which was developed by RAM's creator, Adrian Cocking, in conjunction with single-seat racing car constructors, Reynard. The very nature of the RAM's chassis construction gives increased rigidity over most ladder frames which inevitably offers handling benefits. Jaguar top and bottom wishbones are hung onto the front of the chassis and used in conjunction with uprated road springs and dampers. At the rear of the car, a modified Jaguar XJ-Series rear axle is used with shortened drive-shafts. The space frame design offers the safety-conscious a well-braced body shell with many impact-absorbing zones and the driver is surrounded by a substantial framework. The fuel tank, often a touch vulnerable with other designs, is set deep into the chassis behind the seats for protection. Most RAM Cobra replicas were fitted with a mildly tweaked Rover V8 engine or, in some cases, a large American V8 unit was used giving similar performance to the original Shelby Cobra.

The lovely RAM Cobra featured here is indeed powered by 350ci (5.7-litre) Chevrolet ‘small-block’ V8 fuelled through a Holley 650CFM carburettor under a chromed Edelbrock air filter and mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The donor car was a 1981 Jaguar 4.2 XJ6 so the running gear is naturally Jaguar with the addition of adjustable coil-overs. Although registered as 1981, we believe that this particular vehicle was built around 1994 as there are spec-sheets from RAM in the file dated January 1994.

The car is finished in gleaming black with two large gold stripes running the length of the bodywork. Externally the look is completed by chrome front overriders, wind deflectors, polished aluminium stone guards, single hoop drivers roll-over bar, a centre mounted flip-top fuel filler, side-exit exhausts and 15' Halibrand wheels with black inserts and replica spinners.

The interior is equally well presented in cream leather piped in black, with black carpets edged in cream. The cream leather theme is continued through the door cards onto the very tidy dashboard which is fronted by a three-spoke Moto-Lita wood rim steering wheel. Willans, three-point harnesses are fitted to both seats.

With only 8,339 miles indicated and on offer from a much-pampered private collection, this delectable RAM Cobra seems like tremendous value. As is our vendor's custom, the car will be freshly MOT'd, serviced, fully inspected and road tested prior to our sale.

This RS1600i has formed part of the world famous RS collection since 2008,(  www.pistonheads.com/features/ph-features/rs-royalty-the-bonkers-collection/23965 ) and in that time it has featured in many online and paper magazines. The collection's owner and creator scoured the UK for many years to unearth the very best Sunburst Red RSi he could find and, after many years of searching, this particular example was found on his door step in the South Wales Valleys. Inevitably collections evolve and now the time has come for the next custodian to enjoy what is undoubtedly one of the very best RSi's in existence.

The car was first registered on 14/10/1983 and is one of only 560 UK cars in Sunburst Red. It's accompanied by a box file full of history including every MOT from14/10/1986 @ 8,057 miles through to 18/02/2019 @ 34,646 miles. It remained in storage from 2004 until 2010 but, even so, it's only covered 700 miles in the last 16 years. Apart from the MOTs and dozens if not hundreds of invoices for servicing and minor maintenance, the file also contains log books, old tax discs, an 11-page Parts List, RS1600I identification sheet, RS1600i Buyers Guide, the Service Book and a spare set of keys.

As you will see from the photographs the car is in amazing condition with a deep shine, good decals, a mint interior and a showroom-quality engine bay. Quite frankly, it's the best RSi we have ever seen.

In accordance with his normal practice, our vendor will ensure that the car is inspected, fully serviced, freshly MOT’d and road-tested prior to the sale.

1967 Mini Cooper Mk1 1967 Mini Cooper Mk1

1967 Mini Cooper Mk1

Lot #211 (Sale Order 12 of 63)

Well prepared MK1 Cooper for historic rally events
  • Right-hand drive Mk1 Mini Cooper beautifully prepared for the 10th Monte-Carlo Historic, finishing successfully

  • Stripped to a bare shell in 1999, seam-welded then completely rebuilt from the ground up to the Rally Regulations

  • A high-quality restoration documented with photographs, invoices and today presenting extremely well

  • Lots of history. Build records, pace notes, MOTs, invoices and supporting documents

  • Recently repatriated from Guernsey, on a NOVA, taxes paid

This lovely Mk1 Mini Cooper was first registered on 07 April 1967, finished in blue with a white roof. Photographs within the history folder show the condition of the car in 1998 when it was purchased with one goal in mind, an entry in the 'Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique. The car was completely stripped to its basic components and totally rebuilt to a specification allowing entry into the event. The engine was rebuilt with a 997 camshaft, scalloped pistons to accommodate a ported big valve head, and a long manifold connected to a works-spec central exhaust system. The interior is to period 'works' rally-spec including twin stopwatches and a Twin Halda Speedmaster. Now finished in Tartan Red with the standard white roof, the exterior has period spotlights, boot-mounted reversing light, twin fuel tanks and a sump guard. The suspension has rubber cones and is fully adjustable. Extensive photographic accounts of the work can be found in the history folder supported by invoices and it is clear to see the sheer quality of the workmanship as 20 years after the restoration the car still presents extremely well, beautifully in fact. The rally was successfully completed and the entry forms, brochures and pace notes are included in the history file. Subsequently, the car was dry stored for a number of years before the decision was taken to have the engine professionally overhauled by Southam Mini Centre and shortly afterwards the owner moved to Guernsey where our vendor was offered and purchased the car in 2012.

Today this little Cooper presents beautifully, looking every inch a sixties rally car, and is said to perform well. On inspection, it's clear to see that the quality of the restoration and recent correct storage has meant that it remains in excellent shape. Our vendor has little time to use the car so has decided to pass it on to another Mini Cooper enthusiast. At the time of cataloguing, the car is in the process of being repatriated from Guernsey with a NOVA applied for and any applicable taxes paid.

As far as we can see, there will always be events suitable for Sixties Mini Coopers and this well-prepared example is ideally suited for fast-road, hill-climbs, sprints and historic rallying with a few minor modifications to suit particular event regulations. As always with a car used in competition, it's necessary to check the currency and suitability of any safety equipment but, that done, this super Monte-Carlo Mini will be welcome anywhere.

2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage 2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage

2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage

Lot #212 (Sale Order 13 of 63)

A rare manual gearbox car that has only covered 29,000 miles
  • Originally supplied through Aston Martin Mayfair who used the car as their demonstrator

  • Finished in Midnight Blue with Charcoal leather interior, this is a desirable manual DB7

  • Aston Martin service history showing nine stamps in the book – the latest in June 2019

  • Showing just 29,000 miles the car is supplied with its handbooks, the V5c and an MOT until June 2020

At the Geneva Motor Show in 1999, Aston Martin introduced the long-awaited Vantage version of their successful DB7. Sporting a Cosworth-designed, 5.9-litre V12 producing a creamy 420bhp, the car was super-quick and was electronically limited to 185mph. The V12 had a serious appetite for air compared to its 6-cylinder predecessor, demanding a larger intake and other modifications to the frontal airflow were made to aid cooling. Other changes included chassis and braking upgrades, to cope with the increased performance and Ian Callum enlarged the grille, added fog lamps and re-styled the valances to give the car a more purposeful look. The Vantage interior leather trim was cut and sewn at a special trim shop at Newport Pagnell, where the carpet and wood veneers were also prepared. The 5.9-litre V12 Vantage Volante, costing over £100,000 at its launch, remained in production until 2004.

Offered here, is a DB7 Vantage V12 with the desirable manual gearbox supplied new in the UK through Aston Martin Mayfair in 2002 and finished in Midnight Blue with charcoal leather, a walnut dashboard and a Slate Alcantara headlining.

The service book records an Aston Martin main dealer service history with the most recent being carried out in June 2019. Supplied with spare keys and its book pack containing all the relevant literature, this stunning car has now covered just over 29,000 miles from new. MOT tested until June 2020, this desirable manual variant is now hugely collectable and with prices of all DB7s starting to rise, this low mileage Vantage surely ticks the boxes of any enthusiast looking to add to a collection of Aston Martins carrying the fabled DB badge.

2003 BMW Z3M Coupe (E36/8) 2003 BMW Z3M Coupe (E36/8)

2003 BMW Z3M Coupe (E36/8)

Lot #213 (Sale Order 14 of 63)

11,282 miles from new, one of only 165 RHD cars supplied.
  • Only 11,282 miles. In family ownership before becoming part of a collection in 2016

  • Finished in Titansilber with a dramatic Imola Red and Black Nappa leather interior

  • The 3.2-litre, 321bhp, naturally-aspirated, S54 straight-six makes this car really special

  • Well-specified from new, it's equipped with heated seats, air conditioning and a moon roof

  • Recently serviced (September 2019) and the MOT is valid until May 2020

  • One of only 165 right-hand drive, S54 examples and, at this mileage, a real opportunity

The Z3 was the first modern mass-market roadster produced by BMW as well as the first new BMW model to be assembled in the United States. It was introduced as a 1996 model year vehicle, shortly after being featured in the James Bond movie 'Goldeneye'. While the film was number one at the box office, sales of the car peaked and over 15,000 orders had been placed by the time the car was launched. The Z3 was designed by Joji Nagashima of the BMW design team and developed from the 3-series E36 platform and consequently is often referred to as the E36/7(roadster) or E36/8(coupé). When launched, only the 1.9-litre, straight-four engine was offered, but its 138bhp proved a bit short of breath.  A 2.2-litre engine producing 168bhp was made available for the more enthusiastic driver whilst in 1997 a powerful six-cylinder 2.8-litre unit producing 190bhp was an option, and ultimately, in 1998, the 3.2-litre Z3M topped the range.  In October 2001, the 'M' Coupé reappeared with the new 3.2-litre S54B32 engine from the E46 M3, producing 321bhp at 7400rpm and 258lb/ft.

The documentation with this lovely example indicates that the car has been enjoyed by three keepers, but the first of these was the original purchaser who then sold it to his brother who later sold it back to him so, whilst three keepers is technically correct, in real terms it's one family ownership. Anyway, between them, they only managed to cover 11,000 miles and this car is almost certainly one of the best examples in the country. Supplied new by Hexagon BMW finished in sparkling Titan Silver with contrasting Imola Red & Black Nappa leather trim, this car is in excellent condition. Well-specified from new, it's equipped with heated seats, air conditioning, and a moon roof. The car has been particularly well-kept and appears virtually untouched as evidenced by the first aid kit which is still in the original cellophane. It was serviced just once, as per its BMW schedule, and had periods on SORN from 2012 until 2016 when it joined a private collection. The mileage is warranted by a VOSA MOT check- 2006 at 5929 miles, 2007 at 6758, 2008 at 7162, 2011 at 8618, 2016 (June) at 10,965, 2016 (November) at 11,110 and 2019 at 1,281. Further details of the car's initial thirteen years can be found within the history file along with all its handbooks, V5c registration, the current MOT Certificate valid until May 2020 and details of its most recent service in September this year at 11,282 miles.

Only 165 right-hand drive, S54 engined examples of the Z3M were ever produced by BMW, and that rarity will inevitably result in them becoming particularly sought after.

2004 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG

2004 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG

Lot #214 (Sale Order 15 of 63)

Blistering performance, classic looks and only 4,500 miles from new
  • Only 4,500 miles

  • Superbly presented in Brilliant Silver Metallic with a black/anthracite leather interior

  • Hardly used by its first two owners. In a private collection since 2017

  • Well-documented service and MOT history

  • Full book pack in Mercedes-Benz leather wallet

  • A very special example of Mercedes' market-leading Grand Tourer and surely unrepeatable at this mileage

Introduced in 2002, after some five years in development, the R230 Series SL Roadster was an engineering 'tour de force'. Painstakingly modelled on a state-of-the-art supercomputer which enabled the designers to analyse every curve and line, it looked utterly sensational with an air of barely contained aggression that gave it huge road presence. Packed full of sophisticated electronic driver aids which made it immensely safe but also fun to drive, it was an instant hit with press and public alike and is widely considered to be the best-looking Mercedes for many years. The power-operated aluminium folding roof was particularly admired and would disappear into the top of the boot at the press of a button in just 16 seconds, yet still leave enough room underneath for 206 litres of luggage space. It was in 2003 that the stunning looking SL55 AMG version was introduced. Seriously powerful and massively fast, the 5.4-litre engine gave 476 bhp and a tree stump pulling 520lbs/ feet of torque! Early owners included the, notoriously difficult to please, Jeremy Clarkson, who became quite vocal about his enthusiasm for the way it drove, the way it looked and above all, the way it sounded! Featuring the amazing 'Panoramic Electric Glass Roof System', it became the sports car to own between 2003 and 2006.

LM53 OTV is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) with a sumptuous black/anthracite (261) leather interior featuring air-cooled electrically adjusted seating and was first registered in early January 2004, to Mercedes-Benz directly and then subsequently sold to its first owner who was a merchant banker. The car’s second owner obviously was also selective about when he drove it and, since 2017, it has been part of a private collection all of which explains the tiny mileage of 4,500. Lack of mileage does not mean lack of maintenance, however, and the Service Record has been stamped at the following intervals; 07/08/08 at 1,775, 20/04/17 at 4,315, 18/09/19 at 4,476 miles.

The MOT history is also well documented; 2009 at 1,962 miles, 2010 at 3,087, 2011 at 4,268, 2017 at 4,339, 2019 at 4,481 and all of this information is in the original book pack in the proper Mercedes presenter. The car clearly has had little wear, still generating that lovely combination of aromatic leather and new car feel when sitting in it for the first time.

This SL55 AMG presents really, really well and appears almost unmarked. The engine bay appears showroom fresh and the whole car has patently been looked after. Ballistically quick, fabulous looks, continent covering pace, yet as civilised in town as a Toyota Corolla, it's no wonder that some ‘supercar’ owners tend to get a little upset.

1993 Jaguar XJ220 1993 Jaguar XJ220

1993 Jaguar XJ220

Lot #215 (Sale Order 16 of 63)

Private Plate is not included in the sale Fabulous C2 Sting Ray supplied new to Sir Cliff Richard OBE

The black interior is lightly patinated appearing essentially original apart from the recovered seats

1989 Porsche 928 GT Manual 1989 Porsche 928 GT Manual

1989 Porsche 928 GT Manual

Lot #216 (Sale Order 17 of 63)

To be sold fully recommissioned as a feature of a new TV Channel 4 restoration show
  • To be professionally inspected and recommissioned prior to the auction as a Channel 4 project

  • The recommission will focus on both mechanical and cosmetic aspects

  • Only 1,500 miles following an extensive engine rebuild. Dry stored last four years apart from MOT visits

  • Full Porsche and specialist service history accompanied by a massive file of receipts and invoices

  • The whole process will be recorded and the finished project will be offered, ready to go and MOT'd at the auction

Channel 4 has commissioned a pilot episode for a new and exciting series that involves members of the public having their antique objects or vehicles restored and then sold and, pleasingly, these objects include classic cars. We are delighted that Silverstone Auctions have been chosen as partners to facilitate the sale of the completed classic car projects.  The new twist in the series is that the owner gets to choose which of the expert restorers completes their project after the respective restorers have pitched their expertise to win the job ('Dragon's Den' in reverse).  Within each restorer’s pitch is the percentage of the sale price they wish to take at the end, as payment for their services and parts required. On this occasion, the production company have selected a Porsche 928GT and its owner who will be recorded during the restorer pitching process.  The final part of the programme is the sale where, on this occasion, the Porsche will be filmed going through the auction capturing the subsequent bidding and final result.  Any bidders wishing to remain anonymous can of course bid via telephone or online. We believe the programme will be broadcast in early 2020.

This particular 928GT was supplied new to its first owner by Glenn Henderson of Edinburgh and is one of only 69 cars destined for the UK during 1989, the first year of production. As a really early car, it remains fitted with mechanical limited-slip differential which, with the benefit of hindsight, has proven to be more reliable. It was purchased by our vendor, a collector of the Porsche marque some four years ago and has been stored for most of this time occasionally coming out for MOT tests and being gently exercised to maintain smooth running and good mechanical health. As a particularly discerning collector, the car was serviced prior to being put into dry storage.

Prior to purchase, this fantastic manual 928GT benefitted from an extensive engine rebuild and has covered less than 2,000 miles since. The accompanying comprehensive history file documents all work completed during that rebuild including the relevant invoices.  At the same time, it was decided to replace the front brake discs and pads and more recently, a new quality battery has been fitted with the balance of the five-year warranty remaining.

The comprehensive history file is described as ‘extensive’ by our vendor, containing previous invoices, tax discs, MOTs, photographs and parts invoices for the engine rebuild and the original service book with 21 stamps from both Porsche main dealers and 928 specialists. Clearly this 928 has been well maintained during its 30 years and benefited from considerable expenditure. Despite the impressive maintenance history, this wonderful car is displaying a few symptoms of her 30 years and, consequently, is going to enjoy some proper TLC from one of the UK’s top automotive restorers. Not requiring any significant restoration, but an assortment of both cosmetic and mechanical issues associated with recommissioning that would frustrate any fastidious owner.

We are confident that when returned from the Channel 4 team, recommissioned, serviced and enjoying a fresh MOT, this will be one of the best examples of a 928GT manual you will find. We understand the C4 film crew will be present and filming when this car is offered, capturing the bidding excitement that accompanies any of our star cars.

1962 BMW Isetta 300

Lot #217 (Sale Order 18 of 63)

No V5c at present applied for waiting on DVLAA beautifully refurbished bubble car
  • The more powerful (13bhp) 298cc model assembled in Brighton for the UK market

  • Built from new in left-hand drive avoiding the need for a (right-hand drive) balance weight

  • Recent cosmetic refurbishment to include new two-tone paintwork and fully detailed underside

  • A new fabric sunroof fitted, new BF Goodrich tyres and new exhaust

  • A really lovely example. An appreciating classic. The 'Bubble' bubble shows no signs of bursting!

With Fiat's 500 and 600 virtually monopolising the market for lightweight family transport, ISO's three-wheel Isetta was not faring well, so parent company, BMW, stepped in to help realise the 'microcar's' full potential. The little car was redesigned around a one-cylinder 247cc BMW powerplant although much of the Italian design remained intact, whilst incorporating some clever BMW engineering. The result was the BMW Isetta which made its debut in April 1955. Isettas destined for export featured a single rear wheel, single-hinged front door, a roll-top sunroof and fixed side windows. From 1957 onwards, the car continued to be developed culminating in the Isetta 300 fitted with a larger engine (297cc) and sliding side windows.

Isetta of Great Britain Ltd. was one of many firms worldwide licensed to build the Isetta, with production commencing in a converted former locomotive works in Brighton, where models in both left-hand and right-hand drive were built. This left-hand drive BMW Isetta 300 is a 1962 example, assembled in Brighton as indicated by the chassis plate, and thought to have been supplied to its first customer by Claude Rye Ltd of Fulham. With right-hand drive examples, the laws of physics suggested that the combined weight of the driver and engine on the same side of a three-wheeled vehicle may well lead to a touch of instability, so a fairly heavy balance weight was added on the left-hand side restoring the status quo, however, adding quite a few kilos to a car that could only muster around 13bhp on a dry Sunday didn't make much sense, so left-hand drive cars were the popular choice.

Having undergone a recent full body respray, this little 300 now presents superbly in two-tone Rosso and Bianco. The underside was fully cleaned and detailed, a new fabric roll-top sunroof added, and fresh chrome, a new exhaust and new BF Goodrich tyres fitted. This delightful little ‘bubble car’ will put a smile on your face and the faces of onlookers as you pottle to the local pub on those warm summer nights.

1997 BMW 840 Ci 1997 BMW 840 Ci

1997 BMW 840 Ci

Lot #218 (Sale Order 19 of 63)

Please note this car is the more desirable 4.4 V8 not the 4.0 as listedThree former keepers and just 21,500 miles from new.
  • 4-litre V8, 286bhp, 295lb/ft, 155mph, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. 5-speed automatic

  • Deep Orient Blue really suits these long sculpted pillarless coupes

  • Superbly designed cabin finished in sumptuous light grey Nappa leather

  • Used by Holland Park BMW as a demonstrator when new in 1997

  • Lightly used by its first owner for 16 years and off the road from 2006 until early 2012

  • Comprehensive service history and last serviced in September 2019 at 21,503 miles

  • Part of a private collection since 2017. An absolutely fabulous motor car

Built between 1989 and 1999, the BMW 8-Series was offered with a V8 or V12 engine and whilst commonly thought to be a successor to the 6-Series models it was, in fact, a new series entirely designed to be BMW's 'flagship' and thus command a premium price with looks and performance to match. The 840Ci was produced with two different engines the first of which was a 4-litre V8 M60B40 unit producing 286bhp and fitted from 1993 to late 1995. This was later changed to a new 4.4-litre V8 M60B40 unit which produced the same power output but had significantly better torque. Available with a 5-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox, the only external distinguishing features from the earlier V12 models were the quad round exhausts. As well as stupendous performance - 0-60mph in around 5.8 seconds and an electronically limited maximum speed of 155mph - the 8-Series offered the latest in suspension technology, featuring computerised monitoring and adjustment of damper settings, and some rear-wheel steering. Reportedly 3,075 examples of the 4.4-litre V8 BMW 840 Ci had found homes when production finished in May 1999.

This superb example is finished in Orient Blue with Light Grey Nappa leather and was initially ordered in 1997 by Holland Park BMW to be used as their dealer demonstrator and naturally was very well optioned. It was most recently serviced in September 2019 with an indicated mileage of only 21,503, probably explained by the fact that its first owner, who kept it for 16 years, was elderly, only using the car occasionally and, in fact, not at all from 2006 until early 2012. Judging by the comprehensive service and invoices for maintenance and improvement, its second owner was particularly fastidious bringing this lovely coupe up to the remarkable condition in which you find it today. Since early 2017 it has been part of a private collection of mouth-watering motor cars cared for by its equally fastidious current keeper.

Although out of production for almost 20 years, the 8-Series was blessed with classically proportioned, understated, and essentially timeless styling that has not dated, and these beautiful and exclusive Gran Turismos still look modern today particularly in this sophisticated colour combination and in such wonderful condition. This factory-fresh example in true collectors condition is possibly unrepeatable.

1999 Aston Martin DB7 Volante 1999 Aston Martin DB7 Volante

1999 Aston Martin DB7 Volante

Lot #219 (Sale Order 20 of 63)

A superb supercharged AM with extensive service history.
  • Supplied new by Paramount Cars in Stourbridge in February 1999. Four former keepers and 57,000 miles

  • Delightful colour combination of Cannock Black, Ivory hide piped in Claret and Claret carpets

  • All-alloy, double overhead camshaft, supercharged, 24-valve, in-line six with 335bhp at 5750rpm

  • Comprehensive service history with 16 stamps. Most recent in September 2019

  • Sensibly guided with a fresh MOT and a new soft top, this lovely Aston is now ready to enjoy

Introduced to an astonished public in 1993, the handsome new DB7 was Aston Martin's first six-cylinder model since the production of the DBS had finished in 1971. Styled by Ian Callum, its lines were evocative of earlier Aston Martin models and elements of the DB4/5/6 could be seen if you looked carefully. Arguably, one of the most attractive looking cars ever produced by Aston Martin, the '7' was more approachable than the leviathans that had immediately preceded it. Well received, it attracted new customers worldwide, with the traditional layout of the curvaceous two-door coupé body, robust six-cylinder engine and a 'proper' interior. Power was supplied by an all-alloy, double overhead camshaft, supercharged, 24-valve, in-line six-cylinder engine which produced 335bhp at 5750rpm. In the same way that the beautiful little Sixties Lotus Elan morphed, over the years, into the be-winged Esprit Turbo, the DB7 was the first in the line of modern Astons that have become more dramatic with each new model, however, we feel that the simple purity of line of the DB7, will ultimately define the breed.

This lovely example was initially supplied by Paramount Cars in Stourbridge on the 23rd of February to the first of four owners who have between them covered 57,000 miles. The Aston presents superbly in Cannock Black with lovely Ivory coloured hide, piped in Claret and matching Claret carpets and the whole car is set off by gleaming alloys and a brand new black hood. The fact that it has been well cared for is obvious from the car's wonderful condition but can be corroborated by the detailed service history with 16 stamps in the Service Record. The most recent service was during September 2019 and the MOT is valid until early October 2020.

DB7s are the quintessential British Sports Cars of the late nineties. Their values plateaued for a while, however, that is no longer the case with really good cars catching up and surpassing early DB9s.  Don't miss the boat.

1957 Volvo PV444 LS 08 1957 Volvo PV444 LS 08

1957 Volvo PV444 LS 08

Lot #220 (Sale Order 21 of 63)

A 'Best-of-Breed', show-winning example
  • 1583cc PV444 with the later 85bhp B16B engine

  • Manufactured in 1957 and used by the Swedish Forestry Commission until 1985

  • Imported into the UK by a Volvo Dealership and remained a showroom car for the next 14 years

  • In 2001 upgraded to the American 08 standard (twin SUs, 4-speed gearbox, unleaded head)

  • Owned and restored by a number of prominent Volvo enthusiasts, winning many shows

  • Fully documented 63,000 miles and history from new, many trophies and associated items

In September 1944, Volvo unveiled a car that was to be the key to its future. The model designation '444’ denoted four-cylinders, four seats, and 40hp, and it was to become the mainstay of Volvo’s product line until production of the PV-series ended in 1965.

At the time, the reveal of the PV444 was a sign that better days were indeed on the horizon. Featuring a unibody design to reduce weight and boost fuel economy, the first PV444 models were powered by a 1.4-litre overhead-valve four-cylinder engine, rated at the aforementioned 40hp. The PV444 helped to further Volvo’s reputation as a builder of safe cars, as the car came with a laminated “safety glass” windscreen, as well as a “safety body” that resisted crushing even in rollover accidents.

The PV444 evolved incrementally over the years, with each new model gaining a letter suffix to denote its new and improved status and, by the end of the model’s run in 1957, the PV444L was producing 60hp from its 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine. Sport versions of the car which relied on the same 1.6-litre engine in a higher state of tune were producing 85hp, and the PV series was rapidly gaining a reputation as a capable car in motorsport.

The car presented here is a 1957, split-screen PV444LS 08, benefiting from a 4-speed gearbox attached to a B16B engine with twin SU carburettors producing 85bhp (upgraded in 2001). This very special example is well-known to ‘The Volvo Enthusiasts Club 2010’ and is considered probably the only PV444 in Concours condition (officially) in the UK, having been shown regularly over the last 20 plus years. Previously registered ‘349 BAF’, our vendor improved on its already remarkable condition since acquiring it in 2015, winning the 2016/2017 VEC Best Car, Class Winner and Best Engine Bay. This venerable Volvo is undoubtedly a credit to its previous owners, however, a change in circumstances now mean that the car must be sold, and the hope is that this level of dutiful ownership will continue. A Concours quality car ready to be enjoyed!

2017 Subaru WRX STI Final Edition 2017 Subaru WRX STI Final Edition

2017 Subaru WRX STI Final Edition

Lot #221 (Sale Order 22 of 63)

A single owner car with just 110 miles from new!
  • Sadly, the WRX STI Final Edition was the last hurrah for Subaru's halo car

  • Only 150 destined for the UK and eagerly purchased by collectors

  • All finished in WR Blue Pearl with new 19' Gunmetal Grey alloys and 6-pot Brembo callipers

  • Revised interior. Part leather/Alcantara heated bucket seats, reversing camera and DAB radio

  • Retains the familiar turbo charged 296bhp, 2.5-litre flat-four, symmetrical 4WD and 6-speed gearbox

  • One owner with only 110 miles indicated this rare-to-market example is 'essentially new'

  • If there is such a thing as a 'blue-chip investment' in the modern car world, this is probably it

In 2018, the Final Edition 2.5i WRX STI was launched in the UK by Subaru. Strictly limited to 150 units, this modern incarnation of the iconic World Rally Championship winning Impreza was the final model to be introduced under the WRX STI badge, marking the end of this era of Subaru’s heritage. While it may not be called ‘Impreza’ any more, this car traces its roots right back to the 1994 Impreza Turbo, which is no less than a performance car icon.

Offered here is a virtually brand new Subaru WRX STI Final Edition owned from new by our collector vendor who envisaged himself as the long term custodian of both the special WR Blue Pearl Subarus in our catalogue. His plans have changed and he now wishes to pursue the purchase of a once-in-a-lifetime Supercar. Only driven on dry days, it has never seen rain during the 110 miles he has covered in the car. In addition to its main dealer pre-delivery inspection in December 2017, a main dealer service was carried out at 99 miles (10,000-mile service and oil change) in January 2019. The manufacturer’s Five-year Warranty is naturally still valid and the car comes complete with all handbooks/manuals and its original Subaru sales brochure.

Despite being absolutely unmarked, with a tiny mileage, and one of only 150, this ‘farewell edition’ of, perhaps the most impressive rally dynasty ever, has been guided substantially lower than anything we could find in the market place and represents a real opportunity for a collector or, as we hope, an enthusiast owner. If there is such a thing as a 'blue-chip investment' in the modern car world, this is probably it. Form an orderly queue.

1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL (R107) 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL (R107)

1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL (R107)

Lot #222 (Sale Order 23 of 63)

A really lovely example of the timeless R107 with only 24,386 miles.
  • An original, UK right-hand drive R107 that has only covered 24,386 miles

  • Purchased from Mercedes-Benz main dealer (Whitfields) in 2008 with 23,900 miles

  • Placed in dry storage in 2008 as part of a large private collection

  • Complete book pack with service invoices. Freshly MOT'd for the sale

Looking more handsome with every passing year, the R107-Series Mercedes SL was built at a time when the Stuttgart firm still had a reputation for building cars that made granite feel flimsy. Fast, comfortable and discreetly understated, it had an unparalleled ability to devour the miles for year after year without ever seeming to falter. No wonder it stayed in production fundamentally unaltered from 1971 until 1989 – the longest running chassis in Mercedes history.

The cars were offered with a wide range of power units using both straight-six and V8 engines, but one of the best was the 450SL V8 which developed 225bhp and 278lb/ft of torque, sufficient to propel the, by no means lightweight, cabriolet to a top speed of 130mph. A big favourite among the Hollywood jet-set (two-thirds of all these cars went to the States), no episode of 'Dallas' was complete without an SL sweeping up to a Texan billionaire's ranch.

This 1997 450SL (R107) is an original UK-supplied, right-hand drive car finished in Nautic Blue Metallic with a matching blue interior and rare factory hardtop. It was purchased by our vendor from Mercedes main dealer Whitefields in 2008 at 23,900 miles and placed in dry storage as part of his private collection, which includes several other classic Mercedes-Benz.  The car has covered very little mileage over the last 11 years remaining in the collection and only exercised occasionally and, as you can see, it remains in a condition that reflects its very low mileage and the way in which it has been kept. This really is a time warp example of this very desirable model from an era when these cars were truly over-engineered and represented the finest European roadsters available. It's accompanied by its complete book pack, service invoices and a fresh MOT.

1979 Volkswagen T2 Westfalia Camper Van 1979 Volkswagen T2 Westfalia Camper Van

1979 Volkswagen T2 Westfalia Camper Van

Lot #223 (Sale Order 24 of 63)

Car has been resprayed but not taken back to bare metal A well restored and superbly presented, LHD, factory Westfalia 'Pop-Top'.
  • Originally supplied new in the US, a Blue Plate California car that never left the state

  • Retaining its original floors with evidence of factory underseal – unusual for a bus of this age!

  • Recent full glass-out respray in its original Taiga Green. Classic green plaid interior

  • Supplied with a UK V5c and bill of sale.  A correct and original Westfalia camper

Presented here is a left-hand drive 1979 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper which was supplied new to California and never left the sunny state before being imported to the UK by our vendor in 2015. A ‘blue-plate’ bus, this example is finished in Taiga Green with a Sage Green plaid interior and features a rear-hinged new pop-top canvas, rock-n-roll bed, sink, fridge and 'captain' seats at the front.

In 2016 the bus was stripped and glass removed before it was taken back to bare metal to reveal straight and original rust-free body panels which were then prepared for respraying in this striking original colour. Undoubtedly, the warm California climate has been kind to the camper and, once the paint was off, it was possible to see just how well-preserved it was with the floor pan in super condition and still wearing the factory underseal. Invoices for £6,500 for the re-commission are in the history file. The VW is powered by a traditional 2.0-litre, flat-four mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox, and in the file is a bill for £1,000 relating to a new cylinder head recently fitted by Vee-Dubs of Kent. The file also contains the V5c and a number of other invoices and related documents.

In gleaming 'TaigaGrun' with a white top and bumpers, 'pencil' whitewalls, orange canvas and Sage Green Westfalia 'Berlin' interior this bus is as pretty as a picture and will be welcome anywhere!

1984 Aston Martin V8 Series 4 'Oscar India' 1984 Aston Martin V8 Series 4 'Oscar India'

1984 Aston Martin V8 Series 4 'Oscar India'

Lot #224 (Sale Order 25 of 63)

UK-supplied automatic, one registered keeper and just 10,500 miles
  • Purchased new by its first and only registered keeper on 07/03/1984 via Aston Martin Sales Ltd.

  • The owner, Mr Abdullah Saleh, was Chairman of the National Bank of Dubai and the car resided in London

  • Delivered in Salisbury Blue coachwork with magnolia hide and automatic transmission

  • Mr Saleh entrusted Chiltern Aston Martin to recommission the car in 2016 at a cost of £16,670

  • With a warranted mileage of just 10,443, the history file is one of the finest we have seen

  • Original owners handbook, original service book, warranty card, copy of service receipts and tool kit

  • A rare opportunity to purchase an unmolested, low mileage AM V8 in one of the best colour combinations

One could describe the Aston Martin V8 Series 4, often titled 'Oscar India' (October Introduction in phonetics), as 'the Mustang that went to Eton'. The exterior, particularly the front, may have had a touch of the Mustang about it but the interior was unmistakably Mayfair. The first Aston Martin in decades to combine sumptuous Connolly leather and polished Walnut facings, the interior of the Oscar India, launched in 1978, provided the driver with all of the comforts of the era and the grunt of the legendary Tadek Marek designed V8.

Compared to the contemporary exotica on offer from Italy, Aston's V8 would cruise unassumingly, with only the burble and the occasional pop from the twin exhausts on the overrun alluding to the turn of speed available under the discreetly bulging bonnet. Few cars genuinely suit an automatic gearbox but the standard Aston V8 is a car that perfectly mates the 5.3-litre V8 to the Chrysler-derived 3-speed 'Torqueflite' automatic gearbox. Gears change with barely a quiver and the kick-down can be executed without fuss.

Purchased new by its first owner Mr Abdullah Saleh, Chairman of the National Bank of Dubai, through Aston Martin Sales Ltd., it was delivered on the 6th March 1984 in Salisbury Blue with Magnolia hide and automatic transmission. It was maintained by the Aston Martin Works Service department at Newport Pagnell for many years with service invoices on file from 1986, 1987, 1989, 1991 and 1993, by which time the mileage read just 8,696 miles. In keeping with the demands on the time of an international businessman with a substantial collection, the car was little used but correctly stored in a temperature-controlled garage at Mr Saleh’s residence on Bishops Avenue, one of London’s most well-known and desirable addresses.

The car was latterly maintained by Aston Martin specialist Ian Mason until 2016 when Mr Saleh instructed Chiltern Aston Martin to recommission the car at a cost of £16,670 for various works which included reconditioning the radiator, new coolant hoses, new inlet manifold, vacuum hoses, new front wheel bearings, re-bushed front suspension, rear brake servos, overhauled steering rack and a major service. With Mr Saleh’s passing in 2018, the Aston is now available and is offered today as effectively a one-owner car, indeed the V5c still shows Mr Saleh as the only registered keeper. The odometer indicates just under 10,500 miles and it's presented to auction with one of the finest history files we have seen containing the original owner’s handbook, service book, warranty card, invoices, tool kit and an advisory-free MOT until July 2020.

To conclude, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most original, unmolested and well maintained Aston Martin V8s available. This car's superb condition, interesting provenance, comprehensive history and low mileage sets it apart and it's now ready to grace the finest of collections or possibly do what V8 Astons do best and head for the open highway.

1983 Pontiac Trans-Am 'Knight Rider' KITT Homage 1983 Pontiac Trans-Am 'Knight Rider' KITT Homage

1983 Pontiac Trans-Am 'Knight Rider' KITT Homage

Lot #225 (Sale Order 26 of 63)

Super replication of the Knight Industries Two Thousand 'KITT'
  • The original Knight Rider series saw Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff), a crime fighter who uses a high tech, artificially intelligent automobile, the Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT)

  • Based on a 1983 5.7-litre Pontiac Trans Am with a four-speed auto box

  • Purchased from CH Auto Corporation Miami Florida and imported into the UK in February 2016

  • Appears to be a very accurate recreation. Absolutely fabulous interior

  • Not UK road registered, taxed or MOT'd although road registration may be possible

  • Starts, runs and drives but sold as seen and offered as a piece of movie memorabilia

Knight Rider is an American television series created and produced by Glen A Larson which was originally broadcast on NBC from 1982 to 1986. The show starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a high-tech modern crime fighter assisted by KITT, an advanced artificially intelligent, self-aware and nearly indestructible car.

The car used as KITT in the series was a customized 1982 Pontiac Firebird sports model that cost about US$100,000 (each) to build (equivalent to about $275,000 in 2019). The nose, dash and other interior aspects of the car were designed by the well-known design consultant Michael Scheffe. We understand that a total of 19 cars were used over the four seasons and 90 episodes, however, 14 of these were destroyed during or after production leaving 5 which we understand were stripped of their interiors. All 5 have been rebuilt and have found owners in the States with apparently one of the most used cars recently being offered for 5 million dollars.

Should owning a replica of KITT be on your bucket list we found several dozen for sale in the US for anywhere between $35 and $100,000, but there is no longer any need to cross the pond as we have one right here. This example is based on a 1983 5.7-litre Pontiac Trans Am with a four-speed auto box and was purchased from CH Auto Corporation Miami Florida and imported into the UK in February 2016. We understand that it starts, runs and drives but is not UK road registered, taxed or MOT'd although road registration may be possible if it could be modified sufficiently to get an MOT.

Sold as seen and offered as a fabulous piece of Movie Memorabilia.

1994 Aston Martin Virage 'Widebody' Volante (6.3-litre) 1994 Aston Martin Virage 'Widebody' Volante (6.3-litre)

1994 Aston Martin Virage 'Widebody' Volante (6.3-litre)

Lot #226 (Sale Order 27 of 63)

One of 26 Factory-built Widebody cars with one former keeper and just 10,900 miles from new.
  • Supplied by Stratstone of Mayfair on the 21/01/1994

  • Order confirmation letter in the file from Stratstone confirms that it was the third new Volante built to full 6.3 Widebody specification for registration in the UK

  • Superbly finished in Buckingham Green with a black leather interior piped in Spruce

  • Substantial service and MOT invoice from Joe Macari in 2011 in the file showing a mileage of 10,486

  • Most recent service in September 2019 at 10,878 miles. MOT valid until 01/10/2020

  • Original book pack and leather wallet plus supporting history file

The Volante (convertible) had been the big seller of the previous generation of AM V8s, so the only surprise was that it took Aston Martin more than two years from the Virage Coupé's introduction to come up with a soft-top sister. The production Virage Volante debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1991, a prototype having been displayed at Birmingham's NEC the previous October. Weighing in at over two tonnes, the open Volante was even heavier than the closed coupé, itself no lightweight, this increase in weight being accounted for by considerable body strengthening to compensate for the absent roof, plus the extra complication of the power-operated convertible hood. Electrically powered, the latter was beautifully made and incorporated a glass rear window, complete with heated de-misting elements. Mechanically the Volante remained much the same as its closed cousin, though with a slightly lower final drive.

However, there was no disguising the fact that the Volante simply lacked 'grunt' and from the outset, Aston engineers began working on the problem. Their solution, ahead of the forthcoming twin-supercharged Vantage, was for the Works Service Department to offer 6.3-litre conversions for the existing 5,340cc V8-engined cars. Introduced in January 1992, this package could cost more than £60,000 (depending on options) and offered increased power whilst offering a menu of modifications to the bodywork, suspension, and brakes. Power was upped to circa 450bhp, thanks to boring and stroking the V8 to 6.3-litres, which gave the two-tonne leviathan 'more grunt than a pigsty' and, to cope, huge ventilated brakes were fitted to all corners, along with bigger 'OZ' alloy-wheels/ tyres, all tucked neatly under muscular flared arches.  Most crucially, the suspension was uprated, and a conventional de-Dion rear end was fitted, using Watts linkage/radius arm location, whilst at the front the spring rates were increased.  The suspension tuning was the work of Rod Mansfield, the legendary Ford SVO engineer.

In addition to the wider wheel arches, there were a number of other bodywork modifications, air dams, sills etc that appeared on the large engined 'Widebody' cars and customers with no need for the 6.3's improved performance but who, nevertheless, appreciated the aggressive looks of the 'Widebody', could order the package's cosmetic items in isolation. Aston Martin themselves recognised this demand, building a number of Volantes to 'Cosmetic Widebody' specification but naturally, it is the genuine factory original Widebody cars that are the more desirable and valuable. Only 26 factory-built Widebody cars were ever produced and further provenance with this car is in the fact that according to the Order Confirmation letter in the file from Stratstone to the purchaser, this is the third new Volante built to full 6.3 specifications for registration in the UK.

This lovely example was supplied by Stratstone and first registered on 21/01/1994 to its first owner who lived in Cavendish Square, London which might explain the low mileage. It was finished in the classic Aston colours of Buckingham Green with a Black leather interior piped in Spruce and, as you might expect with a mileage of less than 11,000 from new, remains in wonderful condition. Its first owner parted with the car in 2017 and since then it has been relaxing in a significant private collection.

There is a substantial service and MOT invoice from Joe Macari in 2011 in the file showing a mileage of 10,486 and the documented MOT history is as follows; 1997 @ 7,333, 1999 @ 8,105, 2000 @ 8,685, 2001 @

1962 Austin Mini Cooper (997) 1962 Austin Mini Cooper (997)

1962 Austin Mini Cooper (997)

Lot #227 (Sale Order 28 of 63)

A delightful fully-restored early Mk1
  • An early matching-numbers Mk1 997cc twin-carb A-series example

  • Manufactured on the 08/11/1962 as a left-hand drive North American export model

  • Discovered in remarkably solid/original condition and repatriated in March 2018 by a Mini enthusiast

  • Subject to an extensive restoration. Fully stripped down, soda blasted and epoxy-primed before being repainted in its original colours. Original floors, sills, front/rear sub-frames and stainless steel seam covers have all been retained

  • Converted to right-hand drive, 997 engine and gearbox sent to specialists Somerford Mini for a complete rebuild back to original 997 specification; new wiring loom and a new Newton Commercial interior

  • Odometer reads 34,711 miles and is believed correct (but cannot be verified)

To many, its designer Alec Issigonis included, the notion that the Mini might have a future as anything other than basic transport was an anathema, and the idea of a high-performance version was laughable. One man, though, saw it quite differently. Racing car manufacturer John Cooper already knew quite a bit about tuning BMC's A-Series engine - he was running the company's Formula Junior effort at the time - and a test drive in a prototype Mini convinced him of its competition potential. John Cooper appealed to BMC Management, with Issigonis' concerns being disregarded and the two good friends eventually cooperated in creating what rapidly became, and still remains, a legendary little motor car - the Mini Cooper. The Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper debuted in 1961.

The car presented here is an early 1962 Mk1 997cc twin-carb A-series example, and according to its Heritage Certificate, was manufactured on the 8th November 1962 as a left-hand drive, North American export model. What its exploits were state-side we do not know, but we can deduce it found its way to a dry State, as it was discovered in remarkably solid/original condition - it still even retains the original 7-inch discs - and was subsequently repatriated in March 2018 by a UK Mini enthusiast. He has treated the car to an extensive restoration, fully stripped down, soda blasted and epoxy-primed before being repainted in its original colours. The original floors, sills, front/rear sub-frames and stainless-steel seam covers have all been retained. It has also been converted to right-hand drive and the 997cc engine and gearbox sent to specialists 'Somerford Mini' in Wiltshire for a complete rebuild back to the original 997 specification. The car has been fitted with a new wiring loom and treated to a new interior courtesy of Newton Commercial, absolute specialists when it comes to early Minis. The original 100mph speedometer reads 34,711 miles and is believed correct (but cannot be verified).

Sadly, unforeseen circumstances mean our vendor must now part with the car and is keen that it should go to a like-minded enthusiast. This is a super little Cooper and would be a credit to any new owner.

1965 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1 1965 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1

1965 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1

Lot #228 (Sale Order 29 of 63)

A well restored example retaining its original shell
  • A highly collectable and coveted high-performance classic sports saloon

  • Owned and restored by a real Ford marque enthusiast

  • A well-known and respected car on the show and club scene

  • Its original shell and good history made this an excellent candidate for an exacting restoration

  • Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from the Lotus Cortina registrar

The Lotus Cortina came into being because of Ford's decision to step up their motorsport involvement in the early 1960s. Their Head of UK Public Relations, Walter Hayes, spoke to Colin Chapman, asking him to come up with a competitive saloon, using the Cortina as a base, that could be produced in sufficient numbers to satisfy the mandatory 'Group 2' homologation requirements, and with which the Blue Oval could beat all comers. The solution was to take Ford's bullet-proof 1500 Kent engine, fit it with a twin-cam cylinder head, pop it into a stiffened Cortina shell, sort out the suspension and brakes and paint a green stripe down the side. The cars would be built by Lotus at its plant in Cheshunt and marketed through their dealer network as the ‘Ford Cortina Lotus’.

It was 'THE' car for many enthusiasts who before had to settle for a Cortina GT or a Mini-Cooper and it also amazed a lot of sports car drivers who were used to the overweight offerings from Austin-Healey and Triumph. The Lotus Cortina earned an awesome competition reputation and is highly prized today.

The car presented here is a 1965 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1 that has been well-known to the Lotus Cortina Club for a long time. It was bought by our Ford enthusiast vendor in 2012 and was already in excellent condition having benefited from an exacting restoration. He saw the car had further potential, having lots of original features, including its shell, and set about taking it to the next level in terms of condition. He has trailered it to numerous marque shows where it's always admired and often considered a 'best-of-breed' example. The car drives and performs as well as it presents and would be a credit to any collector or enthusiast. These cars are now highly collectable and finding them like this one is getting harder so, if you’ve ever hankered after one, this is almost certainly the car to keep.

2003 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage V12 Manual 2003 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage V12 Manual

V12 Engine, very rare manual gearbox and exemplary service history from new.
  • Very desirable V12, manual gearbox, DB7 with just three former keepers

  • Originally supplied by Stratstone of Wilmslow on 28/02/2003 in Tungsten Silver with Obsidian leather

  • Full Aston Martin service history (13 stamps) up until 2016 at 43,481 miles

  • Current indicated mileage just over 48,000. Aston Martin book pack and wallet including service book

  • New tyres, freshly serviced and the MOT is valid until early October 2020

Aston Martin introduced the long-awaited Vantage version of their successful DB7 in 1999. Sporting a Cosworth designed, 5.9- litre V12 producing a creamy 420bhp, the car was super-quick and was electronically limited to 185mph. The V12 had a serious appetite for air compared to its 6-cylinder predecessor, demanding a larger intake and other modifications to the frontal airflow were made to aid cooling. Other changes included chassis and braking upgrades to cope with the increased performance and Ian Callum enlarged the grille, added fog lamps, and restyled the valances to give the car a more purposeful look. The Vantage interior leather trim was cut and sewn at a special trim shop at Newport Pagnell, where the carpet and wood veneers were also prepared.

This superb DB7 Vantage was originally supplied by Stratstone of Wilmslow on 28/02/2003 in Tungsten Silver with an Obsidian leather and Burr Walnut interior and has been enjoyed by three former keepers who between them have covered just over 48,000 miles. Included with the full AM book pack is the service history boasting 13 Aston Martin stamps in the book up until 2016 at 43,481 miles and subsequently a further three by marque specialists with the most recent at 47,780 miles in September 2019. On offer from a private collection, this lovely V12 is in fabulous condition and has recently been fitted with new tyres and freshly MOT’d (October 2020).

V12, front-engined, manual gearbox, Grand Tourers have seen mounting investor interest over the last few years and this impressive DB7 Vantage certainly qualifies in that department, however, essentially it’s an affordable classic Aston with 400bhp and the open road beckons. Aston Martin, a V12 engine and a Manual Gearbox. The Holy Trinity

2010 Aston Martin V12 Vantage 2010 Aston Martin V12 Vantage

2010 Aston Martin V12 Vantage

Lot #230 (Sale Order 31 of 63)

In July 2013 Aston Martin Works Service fitted secondary cat bypass exhaust pipes by Capristo. Directly prior to the sale, this car has been fitted with 2 brand new Pirelli P-Zero Corsa at the rearA stunning Storm Black UK, right-hand drive V12
  • UK-supplied in right-hand drive with the desirable manual gearbox

  • Finished in Storm Black (AML special) with black lightweight sports seats and Tailor's Grey headlining

  • Main dealer serviced throughout with the most recent service by marque specialists Pugsley and Lewis

  • Now showing just over 32,000 miles, this V12 is supplied with a complete book pack and UK V5c

In early 2008, Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez confirmed that production of the V12 Vantage would commence in mid-2009, though with the 510bhp engine shared with Aston Martin's other 12-cylinder models rather than the Vantage RS prototype's 580bhp dry-sump racing unit. Based on the V8 Vantage Coupé, the production V12 Vantage is powered by Aston Martin's 6.0-litre V12 as found in the V12 Vanquish, DB9, and DBS models. Getting the V12 to fit the V8 Vantage chassis involved grafting on the engine cradle from the DB9, while the resulting weight increase and more forward weight distribution was accommodated by revised suspension settings. Boasting a kerb weight of 1,695kg (3,737lb), the V12 Vantage accelerates from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.2 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 190 mph (306 km/h).Offered here is a rare manual gearbox 2010 Aston Martin V12 Vantage supplied new on the 14th April 2010 through Grange of Exeter. Finished in the dramatic AML special colour of Storm Black Metallic which has a gorgeous red/copper fleck in the sunlight. The interior is finished in black leather and factory options included were; lightweight sports seats, Tailor's Grey headlining, 700W premium hi-fi with Dolby, Piano-Black facia trim, front and rear parking sensors, bright finish grille, Warm Charcoal seatbelts, polished alloy tread plates and 10-spoke graphite alloy wheels with sports tyres. The car has been well maintained and naturally, has a comprehensive service history displaying 7 main dealer stamps, and one stamp by respected Aston Martin specialist Pugsley and Lewis who carried out the most recent service this year. The history file also contains various service-related invoices and correspondence from its previous enthusiast owners. Supplied with its complete book pack containing all the relevant literature, its battery conditioner and two sets of keys, this V12 is now showing just over 32,000 miles on the odometer.

This is a seriously fast motor car and in addition to bucketfuls of grin-inducing acceleration, the incredible soundtrack resulting from even the lightest push of your right foot is absolutely addictive.

2000 BMW Z3M Coupe (E36/8) 2000 BMW Z3M Coupe (E36/8)

2000 BMW Z3M Coupe (E36/8)

Lot #231 (Sale Order 32 of 63)

Only 17,745 miles from new fully documented by a full, main dealer service history
  • A UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 321 bhp, S50-engined car with a five-speed gearbox

  • Superbly presented in Titan Silver metallic with a black Nappa leather interior

  • Only 17,745 miles from new fully documented by a full, main dealer service history

  • Big spec; LSD, PAS, ABS, cruise control, tilting roof and 17” Roadstar alloys

  • Complete with a rear luggage cargo net, warning triangle and unopened first aid kit

  • Supplied with its document wallets, book packs/ manuals and a complete, unused tool kit

Very much an oddball and all the better for it, the Z3 M Coupe follows no model lineage and wasn't replaced when production ceased, but what a wonderful hiccup in the corporate product line this car was. The 'M Coupe' housed the fabulous straight-six engine from the M3 in a smaller body based upon the two-seat Z3 and there were three distinct iterations of the car built for the UK market over the model's short life. Up until April 1999, the car is now referred to as the S50 ‘pre-facelift’, between April '99 and 2001 it's known as the S50 ‘post-facelift’, and the rarest of the three was built between 2001 and 2002 and is known as the S54 facelift car.

The main distinguishing feature is the engine used. The S50 engined car (321 bhp) was built between 1998 and 2001 using motive power from the E36 M3 and the later S54 engined model (325bhp) was manufactured between 2001 and 2002 and adopted the power unit from the E46 M3. Apart from the engine, the main differences between models are the drive by wire throttle, DSC system, and externally, shadow chrome wheels. The inside was as defiantly individual as the outside, featuring chrome-rimmed dials with multi-coloured leather seats available as an option but despite being distinctly different, it was built to the same superb standards as any BMW and was a totally practical everyday driver that just loved to play the ‘bad-boy’ at weekends.

Offered here is a truly stunning 1999, UK, right-hand drive, S50-engined, five-speed Z3M Coupe finished in Titan Silver Metallic with a black Nappa leather interior that has only covered a well-documented, 17,745 miles from new, This car is in remarkable condition, has patently been pampered to within an inch of its life, and could conceivably be the best of the 821 right-hand drive cars produced for the UK.

It was originally supplied by Douglas Park BMW and the specification included a Limited Slip Differential, PAS, ABS, Cruise control, Electric windows, Electric + heated/mirrors, Heated windscreen washers, Power tilting Panoramic roof, Remote locking and 17' BMW Roadstar alloys. It comes complete with a rear luggage cargo net, warning triangle and unopened first aid kit. Evidence of caring ownership can be found within the car's history file which includes the V5C logbook, DVLA MOT check print off, previous MOTs, Experian Auto Check Report, Original BMW owners book pack (Service Booklet, Owner’s Handbook, Dealer Warranty & Emergency Service Handbook, Service Europa book, BMW Management leaflet, Stereo Operating Instructions), BMW chassis info reference specification, BMW Service visit print off, various invoices, a full set of keys and a BMW touch up stick. It was treated to new front calipers, discs and pads at Harry Fairbairn BMW on 17/01/2019, the most recent service was on 05/06/2019 at 17,730 miles and the MOT is valid until early April 2020.

At the car’s launch, its looks certainly polarised opinion, however, even amongst those detractors a spell behind the wheel quickly changed their minds and that quiet respect has continued to grow until the Z3M appears to now be heading for ‘cult’ status. Extrovert and cranky it may be, but it certainly stands out amongst its rather anodyne siblings and being that rarest of beasts, a German car with personality, it’s increasingly sought-after and may well be one of your better investments.

1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom

1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom

Lot #232 (Sale Order 33 of 63)

Just 1500 miles covered since 1992
  • 34,000 miles, time-warp, genuine RS2000 dating from 1980

  • Finished in Cordoba Beige with a brown interior

  • All the MOT's up until 1992 (30,405 miles). Most recent on 11/07/2018 at 31,714

  • From long-term storage. Only 1,500 miles in the last 27 years

  • Original brochure, MOT's and numerous invoices from the 1980's

  • The distinctive looks mean that these droop snoot cars remain sought after

The ‘droop-snoot’ RS2000 has become something of a legend in Ford circles and, with rallying heritage, was the Seventies equivalent of Subaru's WRX and Mitsubishi's Evo.

It was back in 1970 that Ford introduced their Rally Sport models – the RS range. Originally designed as a way of building limited numbers of homologation specials for serious competition use, it soon grew into a major marketing opportunity, and one that Ford grabbed with both hands. By 1976, when the RS 2000 Mk2 was launched, the term RS had grown to mean something a bit special.

Unlike the Mk1 Escort which was designed by Ford of Great Britain, the Mk2 was a much more sophisticated design that was jointly developed with Ford of Germany. Based on a standard Mk2 two-door saloon shell, the RS2000 used the familiar 2-litre, inline four-cylinder, SOHC, 'Pinto' engine mounted longitudinally in the bay driving the rear wheels. A single twin-venturi 32/36 DGAV Weber carburettor was fitted with the option of a Group 1 dual Weber 40 DCNF or IDF set up. The front suspension used independent MacPherson struts with an anti-roll bar and at the rear, traditional leaf springs with telescopic dampers were utilised. Front-mounted discs and rear drums were used and four-spoke alloy wheels came as standard. Its biggest distinguishing feature was a ‘droop snoot’ polyurethane nose housing four headlamps which gave it a rather aggressive look. The new car was capable of 110mph with 0-60mph taking 8.9 seconds, not too shabby in 1976, and which combined with the car’s distinctive looks and that shiny RS badge, set Ford’s showroom doors swinging.

In late 1978, the Custom Pack became an option and included the following;  Fishnet Recaro seats, full door cards, clock and pod centre console, 6J x 13? alloys, boot carpet, remote drivers door mirror and the back panel around the rear lights was painted black.

On offer here we have a Ford Rallye Sport 2000 Custom dating from 1980 finished in Cordoba Beige with a brown interior. We understand that is has been enjoyed by three previous keepers and the indicated mileage at its most recent MOT test was 31,714 on 11/07/2018. The history file contains an original brochure, an owner's handbook, ten older MOTs up until 26/09/1992 at 30,405 miles and a number of invoices from the 1980s.

1974 Honda CB 750 Four 1974 Honda CB 750 Four

1974 Honda CB 750 Four

Lot #233 (Sale Order 34 of 63)

  • In 1968 Honda introduced their revolutionary CB 750 Four and changed motorcycle history forever

  • It featured an inline-four with four carburettors, four exhaust pipes, a five-speed gearbox, an electric starter, and for the first time on a production bike, a hydraulic front disc brake

  • Finished in metallic red, this original bike was imported from Sweden in 2017 with just 62,000 km from new

  • It's now UK registered with all import taxes paid and is supplied with its UK V5c, some service records and an original owners manual

  • Although in excellent condition, it may need some light recommissioning prior to use

The Honda CB 750 Four was the first motorcycle to be known as a “Superbike” which rather confirms its place in history as a legendary motorbike. It started a trend of high-performance bikes which featured a transverse overhead camshaft inline 4 cylinder engine and introduced some unique ideas at the time such as an electric starter, a 'kill switch', dual mirrors and flashing indicators on both sides.

It was the bike that most significantly cemented Honda as one of the world’s biggest producers of high-performance mainstream motorcycles with total production figures running into hundreds of thousands by production end.

This particular 1974 version of the legendary CB 750 comes sadly from a deceased estate. It was acquired in 2017 from Direct Classic Imports Ltd of Worcestershire for £7,500 as an original version that had recently been imported from Sweden. The bike is showing just 62,000 Kilometres from new and is clearly in excellent condition all round.

It has had all UK taxes paid and is now registered in the UK and has not been used in 2019, so may need some light recommissioning prior to use. Finished in the smart colour of red metallic it comes with a UK V5c, some service records and an original owners manual.

1965 Aston Martin DB5 1965 Aston Martin DB5

1965 Aston Martin DB5

Lot #234 (Sale Order 35 of 63)

This DB5 featured on the August 2013 Royal Mail postage stamp issue
  • The actual car featured on the August 2013 Royal Mail postage stamp issue

  • Presented in Silver Birch with wonderful original Red Connolly hide and factory headrests

  • Impressive restoration. Full engine rebuild by Aston Engineering in 2013

  • Right-hand drive, 3995cc, five-speed manual, standard disc brakes, chrome wire wheels, impressive history file

  • One of the finest examples of the most famous ‘James Bond' Aston Martins

Aston Martin's post-war evolution took a major step forward with the launch of the DB4 in 1958. Classically proportioned, the beautiful, Touring-designed, body established an instantly recognisable look that would stand the marque in good stead until 1970. The engine was still an all-alloy, twin-overhead-camshaft, six but the old W O Bentley-supervised 3.0-litre unit had been superseded by a new design from the pen of Tadek Marek. The new 3,670cc straight-six developed 240bhp at 5,500rpm and the David Brown gearbox was an all-new, four-speed all-synchromesh design.

Five distinct 'Series' were built as the DB4 gradually metamorphosed into the DB5 which was introduced in July 1963. The new '5' boasted an enlarged 4.0-litre engine which had seen service initially powering the four-door Lagonda Rapide of 1961 and, having proven itself reliable, was subtly modified to suit the sporting aspirations of Aston's new 'flagship'. Equipped with three SU carburettors, the '400' engine produced 282bhp at 5,500rpm and was mated to a four-speed/overdrive gearbox, a 'proper' ZF five-speed unit becoming standard later.

The DB5's distinctive cowled headlamps had first appeared on the DB4GT and the newcomer was the same size as the lengthened, Series V DB4. Outwardly there was little to distinguish the DB5 from the last of the DB4s apart from twin fuel filler caps, although these had already appeared on some of the earlier cars. Beneath the skin, however, there were numerous improvements including alternator electrics, Girling disc brakes instead of Dunlops, Sundym glass, electric windows and an oil pressure gauge as standard equipment.

This very special, right-hand drive, DB5 was supplied through the Eton Motor Group on the 29/11/65 finished in in Silver Birch with a red interior, the colour combination it wears today. Studying the impressive history file it is clear ‘2249/R’ has had a fascinating history having been owned by a number of larger-than-life Aston enthusiasts and looked after by some of the best in the business.

After spending time in Germany during the 1980's and most of the 1990's (there are numerous items of correspondence on file from previous German owners including registration documents) the DB5 returned to the UK in 1997 and was sold by Desmond Smail to a Mr Colin Stone in 1998. Mr Stone is a very well respected businessman, perhaps best known as the former MD of Guinness and Burger King UK. He owned ‘2249/R’ for the next 14 years and used the services of respected marque specialists, DLS Smail, to look after the car whilst in his ownership. At the time of his purchase, the DB5 was finished in Dark Blue and the decision was taken to return it to its original Silver Birch. The car's extensive history file contains details of this colour change and there are a host of invoices and much correspondence on file documenting all the expenditure that has been lavished on this car over the years.

After 14 years of ownership, Des Smail sold the car, on behalf of Mr Stone to a Mr David Irving who owned the car until late 2013. Whilst in his tenure, Aston Engineering were commissioned to carry out a full engine rebuild to a 4.2-litre, lead-free specification. The decision was taken at the time to use a replacement engine block, however, Mr Irving wisely retained the original (the story of this continues later on).

2013 was a busy year for LBH 651C as, after its engine rebuild, Des Smail, on behalf of the owner, organised for this actual car to be featured by the Royal Mail on a special edition of postage stamps produced to celebrate “The best in British car manufacturing”. In the aforementioned history file is an official set of this limited edition ‘British Auto Legends’ stamps that were issued to celebrate the “The tales of human endeavour, boundary-pushing innovation and design artistry in the British Motor industry”.

Having been admired by everyone who had licked a stamp, LBH 651C was sold in late 2013 to the former Radio 2 B

1991 BMW 325i (E30) Sport M-Tech2 1991 BMW 325i (E30) Sport M-Tech2

1991 BMW 325i (E30) Sport M-Tech2

Lot #235 (Sale Order 36 of 63)

A very desirable example of a very desirable model.
  • First registered on 08/04/1991, this is one of the last Sport examples produced

  • UK-supplied with the M-Tech2 package, its list of M-Sport upgrades is impressive

  • Powered by the legendary 171bhp M20 2494cc straight-six, good for 132 mph and 0-60 in 9.9 seconds

  • With a full book pack and comprehensive history, its full tool kit, and in completely original condition this is a great opportunity for a collector or BM enthusiast

  • Offered at No Reserve, this 325i (E30) is a fantastic opportunity to own one of the best sporting saloons of the early nineties

Compact rear-wheel drive saloons were in short supply in the 1980's and consequently, the E30 quickly stood out as something special, being lightweight, refined, and offering unparalleled driving pleasure.

This example is a 1991 BMW E30 325i Sport (Tech-2), UK-supplied, right-hand drive car supplied by David Prentice (Cars) Ltd to Mr Purcell of Northern Ireland, finished in Alpine White and first registered on 8th April 1991. According to the service records, the car was diligently serviced by its first owner before being sold, in 1995, to a gentleman from Cardiff who apparently only used it occasionally. He, in turn, passed it on to a Mr Watts, a senior Army Officer who was stationed in Germany. All the BM's owners appear to have regularly serviced the car, mostly at main dealers with some specialists, and all of this is detailed in the car's extensive history file. In summary, this smart 325 has been enjoyed by four previous keepers and currently has covered 89,300 miles.

The car is accompanied by a full book-pack, original paperwork and tool kit. This is one of the last 325 Sports built and is highly desirable, eminently usable and in excellent condition. The market for sporting E30s continues to strengthen and this lovely example, at No Reserve will soon be off to a new home.

  • Owned from new by Rock legend Jay Kay. 5,500 miles from new under his single ownership

  • Ordered in the desirable combination of Alpine White with a black Boston leather interior and the media package

  • Supplied with its original Bill of Sale and service records with five stamps in the book by BMW Sytner

  • First time offered for sale. One of the 450 specially made 1-Series Coupes. Rock star provenance and sensibly guided

BMW's 1M was the first of the new generation of 'M' cars to use turbo-charging, and with more torque than the V8-powered M3, the 335 bhp six-cylinder, 3-litre, twin-turbo power unit generates linear thrust whatever the revs, taking just 4.9 seconds from 0-62mph and producing a magnificent howl in the process. With 50/50 weight distribution and that intuitive M-Power diff, the car is eminently 'chuckable' and is the complete driving enthusiasts dream.

This amazing, UK-supplied, right-hand drive 1M has been owned since new by Rock legend Jay Kay and has only covered 5,500 miles in that time. Finished in the classic combination of Alpine White with a Black Boston Leather interior, the original Bill of Sale included in the cars history file discloses that this focussed little machine was also specified with the ‘Media Package’. The car was initially supplied by Sytner High Wycombe, who have continued to service it from new with five stamps in the accompanying service book, the most recent of which was on 04/10/2019.

Being one of only 450 UK cars available, the 1M is already a tantalising proposition for any BMW enthusiast, however, this lovely example, with its single ownership, low mileage and rock star provenance, could prove irresistible.

1983 Mercedes-Benz 280 TE Estate 1983 Mercedes-Benz 280 TE Estate

1983 Mercedes-Benz 280 TE Estate

Lot #237 (Sale Order 38 of 63)

This car does not have air conditioningRare estate from the private collection of rock legend Jay Kay
  • A very rare and special UK-supplied 280 TE offered by rock legend Jay Kay

  • Only 30,000 miles from new backed up by prior MOTs and service records

  • Finished in Thistle Green with Olive Green cloth. Electric sunroof

  • Maintained regularly by Jay including recently fitting four new dampers

  • Factory options include cruise control, alloy wheels, headlamp wash wipe and the important rear-facing seats with seatbelts

Between 1975 and 1986 Mercedes-Benz mainstream range of motor cars were known as the W123 series. They are now regarded as having been the best-built cars of the modern era of Mercedes-Benz and were all heavily over-engineered with outstanding build quality and excellent and exceptional longevity.

The range consisted of two diesel and three petrol engines powering either a four-door saloon, two-door coupe or a five-door estate, all gaining in specification as the engine size increased. At the top of the range was the 280E saloon, 280CE coupe and 280TE estate version all featuring the double overhead camshaft, 182 bhp super smooth 6-cylinder engine which was so versatile it was the only engine to feature in the entire range of Mercedes-Benz at the time, including the SL sports car, 4 wheel drive G-Wagen and the sumptuous S-Class limousine.

So this 280TE supplied new by Mitchell Costs Motor Vehicles of Birmingham in August 1983 is a rare and special car. Finished in Thistle Green with Olive Green cloth, it also has several factory-fitted options including an electric sunroof, cruise control, alloy wheels, headlamp wash wipe and the all-important rear-facing seats complete with seatbelts.

It was supplied new to a Mr Showell from Sutton Coldfield and the service book confirms diligent main dealer servicing right up until 2007, although the annual mileage remained very low throughout this period.

Acquired by our vendor, rock legend and Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay in 2009, it has been used sparingly by him but maintained well throughout including the fitting of four new dampers as well as regular servicing and MOTs. The very low mileage (for a strong workhorse like this) today of 30,000 is confirmed by prior MOTs and service records and is therefore warranted, although one glance inside the car will also confirm the originality and exceptional condition of this truly lovely Mercedes. There is a strong following for cars of this ilk and from this era and we believe you would be very hard pushed to find a better example today. It's a classic but with all the modern conveniences of air conditioning and ABS, central locking and tinted glass with a timeless and stylish design that has aged very well and still cuts a dash in the car park today.

1988 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 1988 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2

1988 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2

Lot #238 (Sale Order 39 of 63)

A great way into the owing & showing an RS car
  • Originally registered in Spain, the car is understood to have gone into storage in 1999/2000

  • Imported into the UK in October 2016 and purchased by the current owner and a well-known RS enthusiast, UK-registered

  • Left-hand drive non-custom model without a sunroof, no central locking, winding windows and opening rear side windows

  • Commensurate condition throughout for the indicated 47,000 km (29,000 miles)

  • The car has been sympathetically re-commissioned, fully stripped, repainted, with a turbo rebuild and a new fuel tank

  • A contender for RS Concours 'Expert Category'

  • Featured in 'Rallye News', the RS Owners Club magazine, January/February 2019

Based on the success of the previous model, the Series 2 Escort RS Turbo (1986-1990) was more suited to the road, whereas the earlier car was a bit of a 'homologation special'. Many new features were adopted for the Series 2 including utilising the 1600cc fuel-injected CVH engine taken from the S1 Turbo but now fitted with the Garret T3 turbo (water-cooled, unlike the S1), revised engine management settings, lower overall gearing, an improved gearbox and limited-slip differential, a larger clutch and improved KE Jetronic unit and inter-cooler. Suspension and chassis changes included stiffer front and rear springs, uprated anti-roll bars, mechanical ABS and larger brakes. The S2 car produced an impressive 132bhp at 5750 rpm, with maximum torque of 133 lb/ft produced at 2750 rpm, giving it ample performance with a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds.

The car presented here is a left-hand drive, 1988 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 which was originally registered in Spain and is understood to have gone into storage in 1999/2000 which is where it was discovered in fantastic original condition. It was subsequently imported into the UK in October 2016, UK registered and purchased by the current owner, a well-known RS enthusiast.

It's a desirable non-custom model without a sunroof, no central locking, winding windows and opening rear side windows. The overall integrity and condition of the car is wholly commensurate with the indicated 47,000 km (29,000 miles) and, whilst in the UK, it has been sympathetically re-commissioned, fully stripped, repainted and has benefited from a turbo rebuild and a new fuel tank.

Now in tip-top condition, this great and now rare, hot-hatch is surely a contender for the RS Concours Expert Category. It was featured in Rallye News, the RS Owners Club magazine (January/February 2019) generating much praise. This superb example car offers a new owner a very economical way of owning and showing these very special Fords.

1972 Ford Escort Mk1 RS1600 Custom 1972 Ford Escort Mk1 RS1600 Custom

1972 Ford Escort Mk1 RS1600 Custom

Lot #239 (Sale Order 40 of 63)

A stunning RS that would be at home in any collection.
  • The Escort 'RS1600' was developed using the BDA engine that was essentially a detuned Formula 3 unit

  • As well as higher performance engines and sports suspension, these models featured strengthened Type 49 body shells, making them ideal for rallying

  • Only 1,137 RS1600s were ever produced, so are now very collectable

  • Meticulously restored car with its original shell. In incredible show condition on the RS1600 Register

  • Previously owned by marque expert and proprietor of ASM Restorations, Andrew Stapley

  • Accompanied by plenty of invoices for parts and labour, as well as a copy of the original buff log-book

The original Ford Escort was introduced at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1968 and soon became a commercial success. Ford had, for a number of years, used active participation in motorsport as a means of getting their showroom doors swinging, and the new Escort was to prove no exception. Popular at club level in every discipline of the sport, it was at an International level that the name 'Escort' became synonymous with winning. The Ford works team was practically unbeatable in the late 1960s / early 1970s, and arguably, the Escort's greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally being driven by Finnish legend Hannu Mikkola. This result and the ensuing acclaim prompted Ford to produce the famous Escort Mexico road version in honour of the rally car.

One step up from the Mexico, the Escort 'RS1600' was developed using an engine that was essentially a detuned Formula 3 unit designated BDA (Belt Drive 'A' Series). Both the Mexico and RS1600 were built simultaneously at the Ford Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) facility located at the Aveley Plant in South Essex. As well as higher performance engines and sports suspension, these models featured strengthened bodyshells, making them ideal for rallying.

Even today, Mk1 Escorts are still very popular in the historic rallying scene with their reputation for a great balance of power and handling, making them true driver's cars. The BDA engine emits a distinctive and appealing 'growl', which can be heard for quite a distance when the vehicle is being driven hard.

The car presented here is a 1972 Ford Escort Mk1 RS1600 in simply stunning condition. As 1 of just 1,137 RS1600s ever produced, this example was built at Ford’s Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) factory in December 1971. It was originally supplied by Tate Cars Ltd. in Leeds in April 1972 and has seen just four keepers since that time, with the current owner being an avid collector of rare and immaculate Fords. Photographs in the history file document the comprehensive works carried out by highly regarded ASM Restorations. There are also plenty of invoices in the paperwork for parts and labour as well as a copy of the original buff log-book. The car is recorded on the RS1600 Register and is simply as good as you're ever likely to find.

1988 Ferrari 328 GTS 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS

1988 Ferrari 328 GTS

Lot #240 (Sale Order 41 of 63)

A late, pre-ABS 328 GTS, fresh to market for the first time in 30 years
  • UK-supplied, right-hand drive, Rosso with Crema and Red carpets, showing just 27,500 miles in outstanding condition

  • One of the very last pre-ABS 328’s featuring some of the later model’s updates including interior and door handles

  • Fresh to market for the first time in 30 years, maintained and stored correctly with a full service including belts and MOT pre-sale

  • To be offered with original owners pack, service book stamped up-to-date, tool kit and a comprehensive history file

This Targa-roofed GTS was delivered new to Michael Terence Holdings in Jersey on 24/03/1988, supplied by Maranello Concessionaries and first registered in the UK on 1 August 1988. It’s presented in arguably the most sought after combination with Rosso Corsa paintwork and a Crema leather interior with matching Rosso carpeting, timeless and very well suited. Our vendor purchased this example on 14 /04/1989 and has enjoyed the car in fine weather conditions only, always dry stored correctly and has kept it maintained regardless of cost at regular intervals by either Ferrari main agents or highly regarded marque specialists. As such, today the car can be considered as excellent in condition, in fact, one of the best examples we have seen. On inspection the paintwork is blemish-free and retains a deep gloss, panel gaps are even across the entire body, the exterior trim components are excellent and all the glass is etched with matching numbers. The Crema leather seats and interior panels are virtually free from wear as are the factory-original red carpets. As a very late, pre-ABS production model, this example benefits from some of the ‘face-lift’ updates including revised interior and external door handles, making it an interesting and rare variant.

Offered with the important original Ferrari wallet including the original service book stamped up-to-date with the most recent major service including belts and a fresh MOT to be completed prior to the sale. The tool -roll and spare wheel are present and, pleasingly, the car has been fitted with four new model-correct tyres. Also accompanying the car is a rather suitable private number and a history folder containing old MOTs and supporting invoices.

Rarely do examples this good come to market, this really is one of the last of the true analogue sports cars offered by Ferrari. Just pop off the Targa roof panel and set off to the destination of your choice in the early morning sunshine with the wind in your hair and the lively V8 fizzing away behind you – classic Ferrari ownership at its best.

1984 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante 1984 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante

1984 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante

Lot #241 (Sale Order 42 of 63)

UK-supplied factory Vantage Volante with ZF manual conversion
  • First registered on the 05/01/1984 and delivered with a factory Vantage engine

  • One of six cars sporting the Vantage engine clothed in the standard Series I Volante coachwork

  • The sister car belonging to Victor Gauntlett starred in the 1987 James Bond film, The Living Daylights

  • Finished in the same colour as the Bond car, Cumberland Grey, and converted to a ZF manual gearbox

  • The understated lines of this Vantage Volante are similar to the later Prince of Wales (PoW) cars

  • Presented to auction with a detailed history file that includes the original logbook, warranties, and past ownership details

The first Aston Martin V8 Volante rolled off the production line at Newport Pagnell in 1978 to worldwide acclaim and went on to be Aston's saviour as, much like its older siblings, the DB5 and DB6, the V8 Volante kept the order books full by conquering the North American market. As the convertible version of the new luxury Oscar India V8, the car had the brutish good looks of an aristocratic rugby player and the interior refinement of a gentleman's club. If the contemporary Ferrari of its day was likened to a 'prancing playboy in snakeskin loafers' the Aston V8 Volante was the solid chap in burnished brogues, equally at ease in town or country.

When Timothy Dalton took over as James Bond in the 1987 film 'The Living Daylights' he did so behind the wheel of the most appropriate car of the era, a V8 Vantage Volante. Bestowing the virtues of its heritage, luxury and power, the V8 Vantage Volante helped ease Mr Dalton into the role of the quintessentially British spy. The car was to feature prominently throughout the film, with the 'Winterised' version eventually falling foul of its own self-destruct button. The Cumberland Grey Vantage Volante that starred in early scenes of the film belonged to the, then, Chairman of Aston Martin Lagonda, Victor Gauntlett, who lent it to EON Productions for filming. A Cumberland Grey V8 Vantage coupe with standard 'Oscar India' coachwork, bearing the same registration number as the earlier screen Volante will return in the latest Bond film “No Time To Die”.

Mr Gauntlett’s car, and indeed this superb example, were two of just six cars benefiting from factory engine upgrades to Vantage specification before delivery as customer special orders, clothed in standard Series I Volante bodies. The upgrade to Vantage specification on this car, chassis # 15321, was carried out by Aston Martin Lagonda’s Special Department in January 1984 in the month of first registration. The increase in power and performance was significant and these six cars retained the slender lines of the standard Volantes without the ostentatious side skirts and front and rear spoilers of the brawnier Vantage Volante. Interestingly when HRH Prince Charles ordered his new Vantage Volante in 1987 he preferred the Vantage engine but with the more understated styling of the standard Volante such as this car, and a further twenty-one Prince of Wales specification cars were produced, which have become highly sought after. It could be argued that this car, with its factory Vantage engine and standard Volante coachwork is the predecessor to the celebrated Prince of Wales specification cars.

Delivered new to its first owner, a Mr T Mitchell of Moorgate, London via Aston Martin (Sales) Ltd. of Sloane Square, the car is accompanied by a comprehensive history file, including many invoices and old MOTs, plus its original handbook, warranty card and fitted luggage. Owned and cherished since 2014 by our vendor, the fifth registered custodian, who re-painted the car from its original Windsor Red to arguably the better colour, Cumberland Grey. A new mohair hood was fitted at this time also. The original Cream leather interior is complemented by matching leather tonneau. The car benefited from a conversion to an original Aston manual ZF gearbox by Aston specialists Richards of England, Lincoln and mated to an RS Williams-supplied short shift kit which gives a smooth and quick gear change. The original automatic gearbox has been retained for the next owner. The Ronal alloy wheels and a Prince of Wales specification, Nardi wood-rim steering wheel were also fitted at this time and both original steering wheel and BBS alloys are also included in the sale. The re-painting and mechanical and cosmetic enhancements were all carried out less

1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom

1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom

Lot #242 (Sale Order 43 of 63)

A simply stunning prize-winning example
  • In 1980, an RS2000 Custom was an extremely aspirational purchase, with the distinctive polyurethane droop snoot front end and air dam, distinguishing it from any other Escort

  • The RS2000 substituted the diva-ish Cosworth unit for a sturdier 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder, SOHC, Pinto engine, which was mounted longitudinally, endowing the car with a 0-60 mph time of just 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 108mph

  • An original shell, fully matching numbers car, restored to an amazing Concours condition, winning 1st place in the expert category at RSOC Lakes tour 2017

  • Accompanied by lots of history

In September 1978, Ford introduced the RS2000 ‘Custom’ which came fitted with ‘Fishnet’ Recaro seats, full door cards, clock and pod, centre console, 6Jx13' alloys, boot carpet, remote driver’s door mirror and a black panel around the rear lights. In 1980, an RS2000 Custom was an extremely aspirational purchase, with the distinctive polyurethane ‘droop snoot’ front end and air dam, distinguishing it from any other Escort.

The car presented here is a 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom in extraordinary restored condition. The quality of the car has been recognised with many RSOC show accolades and trophies, with it winning 1st place in the expert category at RSOC Lakes tour 2017 – no mean feat! Our vendor knows his classic Fords and has owned some of the best examples in the UK. Importantly, this car retains its original shell and is also matching-numbers, forming the basis for an exacting restoration. The car drives and performs to a similarly high standard and is in, arguably, the best colour for a ‘droop-snoop’ of Venetian Red. Cars of this quality rarely come to the market, with our vendor now having a change in circumstances. If this was your aspirational new car in 1980, this is the closest you can get to owning one today. You will not be disappointed.

1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1

1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1

Lot #243 (Sale Order 44 of 63)

The 'British Cobra', a UK/RHD example first registered to Rootes Ltd.
  • The West Coast Sales Manager of Rootes American Motors Inc. set about changing the Sunbeam Alpine's image using the Shelby Cobra as a guide

  • Sunbeam asked Carroll Shelby to produce a functional prototype which was fabricated by Shelby employee George Boskoff and sent to England for evaluation - the Tiger was born!

  • This particular Mk1 Tiger was originally registered to Rootes Ltd. themselves on 29/03/1966, we believe as a demonstrator; it was subsequently sold to a Mr Willey of Streetly, Sutton Coldfield

  • Beautifully finished in Navy Blue with original black leather interior, the subject of a bare-metal repaint in 2014

  • Holley 600 carburettors, Edelbrock inlet manifold, electric fan and stainless steel exhaust system

A muscle car version of the Alpine Roadster, the Sunbeam Tiger was conceived on the West Coast of America, inspired by the success of the AC Cobra - the result of inserting a small-block American V8 engine into the British designed AC Ace. The West Coast Sales Manager of Rootes American Motors Inc., Ian Garrad, realised that the Sunbeam Alpine's image was that of a touring car rather than a sports car and he saw the potential for performing a similar operation on the stylish but rather pedestrian Alpine, replacing its humble 1.5-litre four with a big Yankee V8. Carroll Shelby was hired to develop the prototype and Ford's 4,261cc (260ci) 'Windsor' unit was the power unit of choice. George Boskoff was the project engineer tasked with shoehorning the V8 into the Alpine's engine bay which he managed by moving the firewall back to create additional space and redesigning the rack-and-pinion steering and the exhaust system.

A total of some 7,085 Sunbeam Tigers were eventually produced, including 536 of the now very rare 4.7-litre Mk2 versions which arrived in 1967. The final cars rolled off the lines in 1968, production being shelved when Chrysler took over the Rootes Group, their new bosses unable to sanction a car powered by their arch-rivals, Ford.

The car presented here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1, making it a relatively rare car. Interestingly, it was first registered to Rootes Ltd. themselves on 29/03/1966, we believe as a demonstrator. It was subsequently sold later that year to a Mr L. Willey of Streetly, Sutton Coldfield, as documented by the original registration document. Beautifully finished in Navy Blue with an original black leather interior, this Tiger was the subject of a bare-metal repaint in 2014. As a result, the paint retains an excellent shine and the car presents very well indeed. Mechanical components include Holley 600 carburettors, Edelbrock inlet manifold, electric fan and stainless-steel exhaust system. The interior is wonderfully original retaining its period wood-rim steering wheel. This ‘British Cobra’ is coiled and ready to strike!

1952 Bentley Mark VI 'Special' 1952 Bentley Mark VI 'Special'

1952 Bentley Mark VI 'Special'

Lot #244 (Sale Order 45 of 63)

A superbly engineered bespoke 'Special'
  • Inspired by the pre-war Bentley Racers and recently completed

  • Based on a 1952 Mark VI Bentley and built by highly respected Jaguar specialists DJB Engineering

  • Mighty B81 6.8-litre straight-eight engine mated to a silky smooth Bentley gearbox

  • Elegantly proportioned with the engine and gearbox set back and clothed in bespoke aluminium bodywork

  • Lots of engineering details, exactingly constructed and properly shaken-down

  • The sounds, smell and speed of a period Bentley racer

When Bentley was founded in 1919 in London, W.O.'s aim was simple: 'To build a fast car, a good car, the best in its class.' His earliest motor cars – the 3-litre, the 4½-litre, the Speed Six and the supercharged Blower – were absolute world-beaters, and Bentley's performance at Le Mans is the stuff of legend. Their first entry in 1923 saw them finish fourth, and by the following year they had crept up to first. Soon the marque was unstoppable at Le Mans – its reliability and performance undeniable – with Bentleys taking first place in 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1930.

Some of the cars that achieved these feats are still around today and quite rightly command much respect and heavy premiums, on the rare occasions they do come to the market. For a number of years now there have been a handful of very skilled specialists producing cars in faithful homage to these great Bentley racers, often bringing together original parts, new materials and engineering prowess, sometimes themselves commanding in excess of £250,000. These sorts of car should always have a distinct ‘Bentley flavour’, both mechanically and stylistically and perform as closely as possible to the original examples.

The car presented here is in that same vein and offers an owner a real taste of that unique and intoxicating Bentley spirit. The car was conceived and built by a highly skilled engineer, who has fully restored many Bentleys and Jaguars over the years, as part of DJB Engineering in Northamptonshire. This Bentley Special was a long time in the planning and the execution has been a labour of love.

Based on a 1952 Mark VI Bentley, utilising the chassis and gearbox, much specialist engineering has gone into making this bespoke car. The chassis has been carefully modified to accept a mighty straight-8 engine, whilst retaining its all-important ‘cruciform’ ensuring its inherent strength and integrity - a Bentley chassis characteristic - are not compromised. The 6.75-litre engine was sourced especially for the car and is an ex-War Department unit, understood to have been overhauled/serviced by The Ministry in the 1960s. Now fully rebuilt and detailed, it runs and performs as well as you’d expect, having found its most exciting application at the heart of this Special. Likewise, the purposeful rear axle and differential were carefully selected for their strength and to be able to utilise hydraulic brakes. With the modified chassis, the aesthetics of the car were immediately more pleasing to the eye, with elegant proportions in hand-built aluminium. Painted and trimmed to an equally high standard, with a tailored tonneau, this Special is ready to go.

There really is an abundance of engineering and visual detail evident in this remarkable special and it needs appreciating in the metal. Elegant and wonderfully evocative, we feel that W.O. would certainly approve.

1994 Porsche 928 GTS 1994 Porsche 928 GTS

1994 Porsche 928 GTS

Lot #245 (Sale Order 46 of 63)

A very low mileage, right-hand drive GTS coming from rock legend Jay Kay
  • Very rare and stunningly finished in Amazon Green Metallic with a Carrera Grey interior

  • Just 26,000 km (16,000 miles), automatic transmission, ordered new to Japan and UK registered in 2015

  • Certificate of Authenticity states optional equipment of top-tinted windscreen, sunroof and soft-look leather front seats

  • Offered straight from Jay Kay’s amazing collection this is a desirable, low mileage 1990's modern classic

In terms of the 928, in 1989 Porsche moved the game on with the even more powerful 928 GT, which with a top speed of around 170mph was the Stuttgart firm's fastest production car at that time, before launching the model's ultimate incarnation: the 928 GTS. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1991, the latter boasted a 5.4-litre engine producing all of 345bhp and automatics were fitted with the much faster responding 'Dynamic Kickdown' gearboxes setting them apart from the previous models. The GTS model also benefitted from a complete electrical revamp, eradicating the problems of past models and in this form, the 928 lasted in production until the model's deletion in 1995.

The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity states that this remarkable 928 GTS was sold through Porsche Japan and registered in February 1994. It was delivered in the very rare Amazon Green Metallic with a Carrera Grey interior and was optioned with a top tinted windscreen, sunroof and soft-look leather front seats.

This remarkable, right-hand drive, automatic GTS has covered just 26,000 km (16,000 miles) and was imported into the UK in 2015. More recently it has formed part of the rock star Jay Kay’s amazing collection and Silverstone Auctions are honoured he has enlisted our services to offer it to the open market. This is a low mileage example in an extremely rare colour and combined with its special provenance, it certainly looks like a very interesting proposition.

  • Our vendor, a gamekeeper and the custodian of small Land Rover collection, used the car for his wedding

  • A local artist painted a watercolour of KUF 762 and a limited edition print is included in the sale

  • Few Land Rovers of this period are unrestored and this patinated little Landie is perfect for family fun

Volumes have been written on the Land Rover's influence on twentieth-century motoring, and similarly, five decades of the twentieth century did much to influence the shape of the Land Rover. Developed by the legendary Maurice Wilks for the benefit of farmers, agricultural businesses and the military, early Land Rovers summed up post-war Britain; innovative, no-nonsense and thrifty, and were built from steel and aluminium now surplus to the war effort. However, the distinctive lines and simplicity of purpose changed little from that famous stick-sketch in the Anglesey sand made by Maurice Wilks in 1947, and as the final Defender rolled past the applauding engineers at the Land Rover plant on the 29th of January 2016, the family resemblance was there for all to see.

Designed to carry bales of straw and faithful sheepdogs, the Land Rover somehow morphed into the ubiquitous, multi-purpose, continent-conquering vehicle we know today but this development owes a significant amount to the clearly voiced requirements of its many owners. Rarely has a British car company, before, or since for that matter, adapted to the demands of its customer base with such enthusiasm. The first Land Rover, and currently the most in-demand by collectors, was built with an 80-inch wheelbase and it continued to evolve after calls for larger engines, in both petrol and diesel variants, longer wheelbases and different body styles.

This venerable example was first registered in the UK on the 13/09/1950 to the first of five keepers, all farmers in Southern England. Mechanically tip-top the paintwork is believed to be original and is in a delightfully patinated condition. The rear load bed shows Land Rover’s continued use as farmer’s workhorse and the odometer reading of some 10,000 miles may well be accurate. Our vendor, a gamekeeper and the custodian of a small Land Rover collection used the car for his wedding and has kept it as a daily runner. It's a bit of a local celebrity and a local artist has painted a watercolour featuring KUF 762, a limited-edition print of which is included in the sale. Few Land Rovers of this period are unrestored and this little Landie displays the patina of decades of use and could probably be regarded as an important 'piece of social history'. How many 'pieces of social history' can be used for a family trip to the pub?

1990 Bentley Turbo R Sports Saloon 1990 Bentley Turbo R Sports Saloon

1990 Bentley Turbo R Sports Saloon

Lot #247 (Sale Order 48 of 63)

Only 67,000 miles from new and in superb condition
  • A lovely example of these 'blower' Bentleys that has patently been cherished

  • Finished in Graphite Grey over Parchment Hide with Slate piping, Walnut veneers, and lambswool rugs

  • Fitted with a turbocharged, 32-valve, 6.75-litre, MFI V8 producing 316bhp and 455lb.ft

  • Full service history (14 stamps) with recent mechanical attention from a marque specialist, invoices on file

  • Supplied with its tool kit, triangle, jack, spare wheel, two sets of keys, handbook and service records

  • Rare, expensive, stylish and powerful, the synergy of power and class

Based on the Mulsanne chassis, the Bentley Turbo R was built to be a serious high-performance machine and, like its predecessor, this Bentley had a turbocharged engine, however, the 'R' was more highly tuned and a touch more 'sporty'. With Bosch fuel-injection increasing torque levels, uprated suspension, anti-roll bars, and superior dampers, the Bentley Turbo was surprisingly nimble for a car of its size and fitted with a 6750cc V8 capable of 135mph it was a real performer in a straight line too. Rave reviews in the press helped dealers move the Turbo R in relatively substantial numbers - one report by Motor Trend described it as 'The first Bentley in decades deserving of that famous name'.

The stylish lines of these nineties Bentleys look best in subtle colours, and the Graphite Grey paintwork with twin light grey 'coach-lines' gives this substantial saloon a wonderfully low and sleek look. As is traditional with a car which would have cost £110,000 new, the interior is classically stylish with Parchment Hide, Walnut veneer, parchment hide armrests, lambswool rugs, and Slate seat piping.

Supplied new by the SMAC Group Plc of Thorpe Bay, Essex, it has a full service history with fourteen stamps in the book and has recently been treated to an extensive mechanical refresh by renowned marque specialist Clark and Carter of Braintree. It has only covered 67,193 miles from new and has a full MOT. The extensive work carried out in November 2018 included replacing the engine drive belts, air conditioning compressor, full engine service, front discs and pads, rear hydraulic gas springs and sundry items as itemised in the history file. It comes complete with its tool kit, triangle, jack, spare wheel, two sets of keys, handbook and service records.

Unrivalled as a long-distance cruiser this sporting ‘Blower Bentley’, in this sophisticated colour combination, offers remarkable value.

1950 Aston Martin DB2 'Washboard' 1950 Aston Martin DB2 'Washboard'

1950 Aston Martin DB2 'Washboard'

Lot #248 (Sale Order 49 of 63)

Major honours at Pebble Beach is as good as it gets
  • One of the first 49, Series 1, three-grille, 'Washboard' examples

  • The sixth customer DB2. Delivered new to Australia, in right-hand drive by Brown and Dureau on 14/12/1950

  • Numbers match Aston's factory datasheet

  • Still in its original Almond Green over Dark Green

  • Competition history in Australia during the early fifties

  • Bare metal body-off restoration and full mechanical rebuild by The Healey Factory 2004-2007

  • Purchased by Vern Schuppan in 2009 and taken to the top-level (2010/2011) by Marque Restoration of Adelaide

  • Third place in 'Post-war Sports Cars' in 2015 at Pebble Beach, the world's most prestigious Concours

  • An important car. One of the best, if not THE best DB2 in the world

Making its debut at Le Mans in 1949, well before road versions hit the streets, the first DB2s were fully-fledged competition cars. The model was made possible by David Brown’s purchase of Aston Martin and Lagonda in 1947 guaranteeing the availability of Lagonda’s superb twin-cam, six-cylinder engine – a WO Bentley creation – which when mated to a shortened AM ‘2-litre Sport’ chassis and clothed in Frank Feeley's distinctive sports-tourer bodywork resulted in the era-defining DB2.

The earliest DB2s to fly from the factory floor featured a three-part grille and a substantial slatted vent behind each front wheel which gave rise to the “Washboard” nickname which is still how the early cars are referred to and even the current register of the three-grille cars is entitled 'The Washboard Register'. After an initial run of 49 cars, the design was simplified and thereafter the side vent was deleted and the three-piece grille replaced by a single unit. To quote Frank Feeley, responsible for the DB2 design, in Aston Martin Magazine:

“Anyway, eventually we tidied up the DB2 and got it into production by which time quite a few changes had been made. For example, we had these outlet grilles on each side of the bonnet behind the front wheels. But Lawrence Pommeroy of The Motor said to David Brown that they were awful and looked like washboards. He had a lot of influence with him and persuaded David Brown to do away with them. So we had to drop them but I personally always thought they looked rather nice, and I was rather upset when they were done away with. Another change we made later was to the grille which started off as a three-piece design. This change came about through James Watt who said can’t we save some cost by making it one piece. So I redesigned it to the shape which has become almost a trademark. The grille itself was made of horizontal slots on a very light frame which was just pushed up behind the panel work to fill the big “window”. I don’t really think it was an improvement but we had to save costs somewhere. I preferred the first design actually.”

LML/50/16 was the sixth production DB2 and the first, we understand, to be fitted with a floor-mounted gear change. According to its BMI Heritage Certificate, it was finished in Polychromatic Almond Green with a beige interior (the same colour as the three 'works' cars at Le Mans in 1949) and fitted with a Smiths heater and a Smiths 'Bijou' cigar lighter. It was signed off by the factory on the 1st October 1950 and the following day set off on its long journey to Melbourne, Australia where Aston Martin agents, Brown and Dureau, had a customer waiting. After the import documentation had been completed and the car prepared for sale, it was duly registered XPG 833 and delivered to its first owner, a Mr WH (Tony) Luxton of Dundenory, Victoria on the 14/12/50 just in time for Christmas.

Tony Luxton obviously enjoyed a bit of competitive motoring and there are written records and photographs of the car competing in The Victorian Trophy in November 1951 at Ballarat Airfield, the Rob Roy hill climb on 29/01/1951 (demonstration run) and the Argus Cup on 18/03/1956 where it placed 15th. Within the history file are a copy of Australian Motor Sports magazine and various photographs, results sheets etc. Also within that file is some limited service information confirming that at various times between March 1951 and June 1953, Brown and Dureau carried out work to the Aston including the N/S rear shock absorber, two front springs, a broken push rod, windscreen wiper repair, water temperature gauge, and sundry oil leaks.

1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster

1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster

Lot #249 (Sale Order 50 of 63)

We believe this not to be a matching engine number carA beautifully restored original UK supplied right-hand drive Roadster that's as 'pretty as a picture'.
  • 32 years current ownership and just three owners in total

  • Ground up, nut and bolt restoration by XK Engineering completed in 1992

  • Built around a Martin Robey System Three monocoque, bonnet, boot lid and doors. Stainless wire wheels

  • Stainless steel exhaust, 4.2 gearbox, servo-assisted 4.2 brakes, Kenlowe fan, electronic ignition, and a semi-sealed cooling system

  • Really lovely Series 1, as nice as you'll find

Just as in their world-beating D-Types, Jaguar's E-Type was based around a monocoque tub forming the main body/chassis structure whilst a tubular spaceframe extended forwards to support the engine. The early cars, subsequently known as the Series 1, were initially fitted with the triple SU carburetted, 3.8-litre, six-cylinder Jaguar XK6 engine from the XK150S mated to a Moss (EB) 4-speed gearbox. Developed from that of the original XK120 sports car and refined in the racing D-Type, the double-wishbone, independent front suspension was mounted on the forward subframe. At the rear, the E-Type's suspension broke new ground for a large-capacity sports car, being independent at a time when most of its major rivals relied on the traditional live rear axle. Dunlop disc brakes were fitted to all four wheels; those at the rear being mounted inboard alongside the differential to reduce un-sprung weight.  With a claimed 265 horsepower available, the E-Type's performance furthered the standards set by the preceding XK models, partly because it weighed around 500lbs less than the XK150 but mainly because aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer used the experience gained with the D-Type to create one of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever to grace a motor car.

The car's Heritage Certificate confirms that this lovely, right-hand drive, E-Type Roadster left the production line on 29/06/1962, finished in Carmen Red with Black trim and a black soft top, and bound for Henlys of London. In addition, the green log book tells us that it was first registered on the 29th August of that year and the car's lucky first owner was a John Stephen Hinely in the lovely Devon town of Brixham. One more owner followed Mr Hinely before 5679 HJ began the second half of its life some 32 years ago on 19/05/1987 when it was purchased by our vendor. He made the decision that he was going to keep the car for the foreseeable future and a full restoration was in order.

In 1987, it was entrusted to Martin Robey Engineering Ltd. who for many years have been acknowledged as one of the major players in the manufacture and supply of parts for Classic Jaguars. Their unique bodybuilding facility for E-Type Jaguars is world-renowned and they have been responsible for the restoration of some very important E-Types including 77 RW (the first production E-Type) and HDU 555N (the last car ever), both on behalf of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT). A 'System Three' rebuild was chosen and this included a completely new Monocoque (body shell), new bonnet, boot lid and doors. A new bulkhead is normally part of a System Three build but in this case, our vendor chose, in the interest of originality, to utilise the existing bulkhead which was shot blasted and prepared for reassembly. The car was then transferred to XK Engineering in Coventry to work their legendary magic and complete the restoration. There is an invoice in the file from Coventry Engine Components for pistons and liners so presumably, the engine benefited from a top-end rebuild at the same time.

Mechanical/electrical upgrades to E-Types are the norm these days and in fact, often enhance the value. 5679 HJ has been fitted with a later 4.2 gearbox, servo-assisted 4.2 brakes, a Kenlowe fan, electronic ignition, a semi-sealed cooling system, external fuel pump, stainless steel exhaust, and stainless-steel wire wheels. It was then superbly painted in the original Carmen Red, fully retrimmed in black with red piping, and fitted with a new Mohair hood. It was Waxoyled underneath before being returned to our delighted vendor. There is a photograph album with the car full of images of the rebuild. Our caring vendor insists that, since its return from restoration, he has never used it on salty roads and only taken it out on sunny days. The speedometer failed in 2006 and was recalibrated and currently reads 10,750 miles.

Recent maintenance (August 2019) has included a replacement ball-joint gaiter

1974 MGB GT V8 1974 MGB GT V8

1974 MGB GT V8

Lot #250 (Sale Order 51 of 63)

Incredibly original V8 that has covered only 4,425 miles
  • Rare and sought-after chrome bumper car, one of only 2,591

  • Supplied new on 04/07/1974 finished in Tundra Green with an Autumn Leaf interior

  • Fitted from new with Overdrive, seat belts, V8 mud flaps, alloy wheels and Avon Turbosteels

  • Hardly used by its first owner and sold in 1987 with just 1,087 miles

  • The next three owners also used it lightly. Current warranted mileage now 4,425

  • Would benefit from some engine bay detailing which would not spoil its originality

  • V5c, MOT history, original production card, owner’s manual and two sets of keys

After ten years in production and ten years of both the press and public crying out for the MGB to be given the power its more than capable chassis deserved, in 1973 (some years after engineers such as Ken Costello had proved it did fit) British Leyland eventually succumbed and dropped their ‘in house’ Buick-derived aluminium Rover V8 engine into the bay that could have been designed for it. In an instant, power leapt from a respectable 98bhp to a very healthy 137. With a comparatively low compression ratio, the V8 was in a totally unstressed state of tune and with a negligible weight increase over the iron block and head ‘B-Series’ unit (the B GT V8 weighed in at a negligible 7lbs more than its 4 pot sibling and a massive 228 lbs less than the car it directly replaced, the MG C), the rest of the car could mercifully remain pretty much as it was. Even the twin SU carburettors were utilised although treated to a redesigned inlet manifold and ‘lobster claw’ air cleaner arrangement to avoid the cost of a bespoke bonnet. This was crucially important to BL who were still smarting from the engineering and production nightmare that was the MGC which required redesigned suspension and yet was still perceived to be an inferior driving machine to the car that spawned it.

This remarkably original MGB GT V8 was built in June 1974 and dispatched on the 4th July 1974 by MG dealer Kennings Limited. It was factory finished in Tundra Green with an Autumn Leaf interior and was originally ordered with Overdrive, stereo, auto seat belts, heater, V8 mud flaps, and Dunlop cast-alloy wheels fitted with a set of Avon ‘Turbosteels’ all of which the car retains to this date. It’s presented for sale today with a warranted mileage of just 4,425!

Very low mileage cars nearly always have a tale to tell and PTP 542N (originally SAJ 683N) is no exception. Several months into the first owner's tenure and with just 1,078 miles on the odometer, the V8’s unique Dunlop composite steel/alloy wheels were stolen. The owner evidently took this event very badly as, following their replacement, the MG was moved to a garage on his estate and, sadly, never driven again. With his passing in early 1987, the estate and indeed the MG were sold at auction, the mileage recorded still at just 1,078 and still sitting happily on its replacement wheels. The car was purchased by Alexandra Motors of Portsmouth, who presumably prepared it for sale after those years in the garage and subsequently sold it in July 1987 to its second custodian, a Mr Ponton of Hampshire. During Mr Ponton's ownership, the MG was used sparingly increasing the odometer reading to just 3,932 miles. In April 2011, the decision was made to sell and the car passed onto its third owner Mr Foat of Bognor Regis. Some three years later he, in turn, decided to move the MG on and, in May 2014 at just 4,059 miles, it was purchased by its most recent owner who has a penchant for totally original, low mileage classics and added to his collection storing it correctly and using it only occasionally.

All the usual paperwork is in the car’s history file including the V5c logbook, copies of previous logbooks, the current MOT, previous MOT's, DVLA MOT history, old tax discs, DVLC correspondence, insurance valuations, various invoices, the original production card which is exceptionally rare, the V8 Owner’s Manual and two sets of keys.

Although in lovely original condition, a little fettling and detailing to the engine bay would bring the car to the next level and, given that top examples of this model are now making substantially more than the estimate suggested here, this low-mileage, well-historied, four-owner V8 should amply reward the remedial tidying-up now required. What a great find!

1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 DHC 1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 DHC

1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 DHC

Lot #251 (Sale Order 52 of 63)

Make no mistake, this is the best driving XK150 anywhere'
  • US personal export car built in left-hand drive during February 1960 and shipped to J.M.Rice in New York

  • Returned to the UK and joined the ranks of those lucky Jaguars transformed by the legendary 'JD Classics'

  • Indigo Blue with light grey leather, Burr walnut, dark blue mohair hood and tonneau, chrome wire wheels

  • Optioned with just about every JD Sports upgrade that was available at the time

  • 5-speed gearbox, sports suspension, power-assisted rack and pinion, limited-slip differential,

  • Aluminium radiator, cooling fan upgrade, handmade exhaust,  wiring loom, and alternator electrics

  • Pleasurable long-distance tourer with inertia-reel belts, Kenwood sound system and iPod dock

  • Just totally ‘wows’ with its road and touring competence and will reward its new owner for years to come

A car-starved Britain, still trundling around in perpendicular, pre-war hangover motors glimpsed the future in October 1948 with the launch of the Jaguar XK120 at the Earls Court Motor Show. Production commenced in 1949 in Coventry, and the XK's swoopy shape and stylish occupants would become a common sight on British roads over the next fifteen years with the car's international appeal and competition successes triggering the beginning of a hugely positive period for the company. The XK150 appeared in May 1957, replacing the 140, and was the final incarnation of the XK series being initially available in Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) and Drop Head Coupe (DHC) versions with the svelte Roadster (OTS-Open Two-Seat) following in 1958.

A more refined and capable machine than its predecessors, the 150 was noticeably different from its earlier siblings with a significantly higher scuttle and door line, whilst the radiator grille reverted to the thinner slats of the XK120 but was altogether wider. Larger wrap-around bumpers were fitted, a curved windscreen replaced the divided one on the XK120 and 140, and powerful, servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes all round were a welcome addition. However, the 150 retained much of the mechanical layout of the XK140, sharing the same 3.4-litre DOHC Jaguar straight-six until, in 1960, Jaguar increased the engine size to 3.8 litres providing the later cars with a class-leading 220 bhp.

Offered here is a stunning example of a JD Classics XK150 3.8 DHC, produced when they were at the absolute top of their game and assembled by world-class technicians. In addition to the full JD Classics restoration, it was optioned with just about every JD Sports upgrade that was available at the time. The specification includes the JD Sport five-speed gearbox, sports suspension, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, sixteen-inch by six-inch wide wire wheels, uprated wiring loom, alternator electrics, handmade exhaust, aluminium radiator and cooling fan upgrade, a limited-slip differential and upgraded wiper system.

Make no mistake, this is the best driving XK150 anywhere and is nicely settled-in having covered just six thousand miles from the initial build. It just totally ‘wows’ with its road and touring competence and will undoubtedly continue to reward its new owner for years to come as a direct result of the world-class level of engineering competence invested in this car’s build. We understand that this remarkable XK represents an investment of around a quarter of a million pounds and would not doubt that for a minute.

The car’s Heritage Certificate states the date of manufacture as February 1960 and informs us that it was a left-hand drive, personal export car originally registered 3860 DU for its first owner Mr J.M. Rice and delivered through Jaguar Cars, New York, USA before returning to the UK during January 2002.

Now finished in Indigo Blue with a light grey leather interior lifted by a Burr walnut dash and capping’s, topped by a dark blue mohair hood, cover and tonneau and sitting, all square, on sparkling chrome wire wheels. It's been fitted with a Kenwood sound system with a Genesis amplifier and an iPod carrier, and inertia-reel seat belts make this beautiful DHC XK150 a genuine long-distance driving proposition.

If you are seriously interested, this ultimate XK could be available for a test drive pre-auction. We cannot eulogise enough about the quality and driving experience and the standard of JD Sport products that certainly raised the whole restoration bar at the time.

1965 Datsun Fairlady 1600 1965 Datsun Fairlady 1600

1965 Datsun Fairlady 1600

Lot #252 (Sale Order 53 of 63)

Attractive and very cool pre-’66 Sportster, a rare sight on British roads
  • A beautiful, right-hand drive, SP311 1600 Fairlady, imported in 2011 by a highly regarded Nissan race team principal

  • Road-legal and rebuilt with the potential for competition use. FIA roll cage, engine fully rebuilt and race-tuned

  • Potential access to events such as Goodwood with supporting JAF/FIA homologation papers and a letter from NISMO confirming build date pre-May 1965

  • Similar spec Fairladys were raced in the USA by the likes of Peter Brock and Steve McQueen

This example was imported into the UK in 2011 by a private collector who is the team principal of a highly regarded UK-based Nissan racing team who have built and raced numerous successful cars over the last two decades in International Touring Cars, Dakar Rally, Rally Raid and GT racing. The decision was taken to have the car totally stripped and rebuilt from the ground up to be road legal but with competition in mind. All components were removed, the shell stripped and repainted by Normandale of Daventry and the engine was rebuilt and race-tuned by Nissan engine specialists, International Engine Services in Essex. The complete car was then re-assembled by the in-house team of specialist race engineers including an FIA roll cage and custom side-exit sports exhaust. Since the build was completed, the car has taken part in the Kop Hill Climb, and just one sprint race at Goodwood and remains in fine shape and on-the-button. Finished in gleaming white with a smart red soft top, the little Datsun presents very well as you might expect having so recently been professionally rebuilt, and we understand that it performs as well as it looks and turns heads at any event or on the journey there and back.

The owner’s file contains a letter from NISMO (the in-house tuning, motorsports and performance division of Nissan) confirming a build date pre-May 1965, JAF/FIA Homologation papers, the current V5c, old MOT's, owners handbook, import documents and various invoices. Also accompanying the car is the original cast manifold that would be required for a current FIA HTP application.

Rarely seen on British roads, and an even rarer sight on British racing circuits, this cool Japanese sportster, with some slight modifications could bag you a place on the grid at some very prestigious events, or perhaps just enjoy it as it is. Often described as a Japanese copy of the MGB but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In point of fact, the Datsun pre-dated the introduction of the MGB by several months, and any styling similarities are coincidental, a great conversation starter at any classic car meeting, hill climb or sprint event.

1971 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 FHC Manual 1971 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 FHC Manual

1971 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 FHC Manual

Lot #253 (Sale Order 54 of 63)

A well presented car with subtle upgrades and just 42,000 miles
  • The final incarnation of the iconic E-Type with subtle upgrades for modern driving

  • Previously owned since 2009, four previous keepers and just 42,000 miles on the odometer

  • Restored during previous ownership in 2012 with a bare metal respray in its original colour

  • Upgrades include a new 5-speed manual box (original retained), performance brakes, Kenlowe fans

  • Recent works include attention to the water pump, steering rack and carburettors at a cost of some £7,000

  • The Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms matching numbers and colours

From 1961, the E-Type evolved and improved with every iteration from the original Series 1 Coupés and Roadsters, through the Series 2 cars of the late 1960's, until finally, the 5.3-litre V12 Series 3 arrived in 1971 but was only available as a convertible or a '2+2'. The Series 3 was built on a slightly longer wheelbase with appropriate chassis modifications and larger, more effective brakes in the hope of coping with the turbine smooth, 272bhp delivered by the V12.  The grille was enlarged and the beautiful lines were enhanced with flared wheel arches. It now had the ride quality that could match any of its GT rivals, and with power steering and the, newly optional air-conditioning, it possessed the civility and approachability that would make it attractive to a slightly more reticent customer base.

First delivered to a Mr F. Hicks of Headington, Oxford on the 06/05/1971, this delightful Series 3 was supplied by Eyles & Coxeter of Oxford in Regency Red with a Beige leather interior, the combination it wears today. Bought by our previous vendor, the car’s fourth owner, on the 15/09/2009, the Jaguar was to benefit from a sympathetic restoration conducted by Yorkshire Restorations of Baildon. This included a bare metal respray in the factory issued Regency Red, re-chroming, new flywheel, and a full engine rebuild including honing the cylinders. A new five-speed manual gearbox was crafted from a single ingot of aluminium and the ratios were matched to the rear differential, the original gearbox is included in the sale. This work was done by Uryk Dmyterko of E-Type Fabs as was the fitting of performance front brakes. The interior was kept original and the engine bay is a testament to the quality of the work carried out by Yorkshire Restorations. Further upgrades to assist modern driving included the fitting of twin Kenlowe fans and sundry other works.

The history file includes a sheaf of receipts and invoices for the work, and the Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms the matching numbers. The original parts, replaced as part of the car's upgrade, will be supplied with the car conferring matching numbers status. Since the purchase by our vendor, a passionate collector of XK150 and XJ220 Jaguars, the E-Type has benefitted from works to the water pump, steering rack, the fitting of SU carburettors, and an ignition unit by Creed & Shore Motorworks of Shropshire at a cost of some £7,000. Supplied to auction with current Swansea V5c and MOT.

Photographic record of the car's earlier restoration can be seen by clicking on this link: http://yorkshirerestorations.co.uk/JEV12.htm

  • An immaculate example in very original unrestored condition, with all original panels and an untouched shell

  • The engine bay is virtually to show standard whilst the interior is almost completely unmarked

  • The car has never been modified from new and remains completely standard

  • Recent full service (including cam-belt and tensioner), and a brake and suspension overhaul, plus the fitment of a replica original exhaust

  • With early supplying dealer Ford service history and many previous MOT certificates to warrant the mileage of just 29,000 miles

Based on the success of the previous model, the S2 Escort RS Turbo (produced between 1986-1990) was more suited to the road, whereas the earlier car was a bit of a 'homologation special'.

The car presented here is a 1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 (‘90 spec) first registered on the 09/11/1989 and supplied new by Lindsay cars Ltd., an RS dealer in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. It's covered a mere 29,000 miles with early supplying dealer Ford service history and many previous MOT Certificates to verify the mileage.

It is an immaculate example in very original un-restored condition, complete with all original panels, perfect panels gaps and is ‘straight as a dye’ down the sides. Close inspection shows it has never had a welding torch near it and the shell/underside are in simply lovely untouched condition. The car has never been modified from new and remains completely standard. The interior is virtually unmarked, whilst the alloy wheels have never been refurbished and are still wearing their four original Goodyear NCT50 tyres. The spare alloy and original tyre are unused, whilst the luggage compartment looks like brand new. The original Ford exhaust has just been replaced due to age, with a bespoke replica of the original fitted, and the brakes have just been overhauled. The engine bay has recently received a deep clean and is virtually show standard, still retaining the original grey Ford HT leads! The car has had a recent full service, including cambelt and tensioner.

It was imported by the current owner in 2017 from Southern Ireland with the registration 89LK4607, whilst the previous Northern Ireland registration was HDZ 2288. The car is now fully UK registered with an appropriate registration number allocated.

The current owner is an avid Ford collector and the car is only being sold due to him buying another rare Ford. This car is ready to show or to be driven on high days and holidays. One of the best available and a must for the Ford collector.

1996 Ferrari 456 GTA - Ex Bernie Ecclestone 1996 Ferrari 456 GTA - Ex Bernie Ecclestone

1996 Ferrari 456 GTA - Ex Bernie Ecclestone

Lot #255 (Sale Order 56 of 63)

UK-supplied, 24,000 miles and first owned by Mr. Bernie Ecclestone
  • Sold new by Maranello Sales Ltd. for £176,000 in Ferrari Forest Green with a Crema interior

  • First registered on the 08/08/1996 to Mr Bernie Ecclestone, who reportedly used the car as his daily driver

  • The last production Ferrari to feature pop-up headlights and the 456's classic lines have aged well

  • Showing just 24,500 miles. Well maintained with service history from main dealers and specialists

  • Presented to auction with book packs, reams of receipts, tool rolls and UK V5c

The name '456' refers to the fact that each cylinder displaces 456 cubic centimetres and this was the last Ferrari to use this naming convention. Despite its supercar performance, 436bhp, 0-60mph in 5.2 secs, and a top speed of 188mph, the 456 has a relatively unstressed engine which has proven to be a very reliable unit. Developed during the Schumacher era, the 456's construction was ground-breaking featuring composite and aluminium bodywork, cutting-edge body to chassis mating technology, along with four-wheel electronically adjustable suspension, resulting in a super lightweight 1,690 kg. Its looks are smooth and understated, and distinctive external features include a small grille with fog lights on the outside, bonnet-mounted air scoops (removed on the 456M), a motorised undercarriage spoiler that begins its deployment above 65 mph, and pop-up headlights, making this the last Ferrari to do so. The model was warmly received by press and enthusiasts alike, and although not produced in large numbers was always gently in demand by 'silver-haired' Ferrari owners before the 456M was eventually replaced in 2004 by the 612 Scaglietti.

The beautiful 456 GTA offered for sale here has lived a very pampered life. Sold new by Maranello Sales Ltd, for the grand sum of £176,000, this car is one of very few in the stunning combination of Ferrari Forest Green with a Crema interior. The first owner was none other than Mr Bernie Ecclestone, who reportedly used the car as his daily driver. The original service booklet details a full main dealer and specialist service history. Very few 456s remain in superb order and the condition of the bodywork and interior would suggest that this car is the exception to that rule and totally commensurate with a mileage of just under 24,000.

The car is accompanied by Ferrari handbooks, an MOT test certificate (July 2020), the UK V5C registration certificate and a spare set of keys. A competent Grand Tourer, this fantastic car offers V12 Ferrari performance and style for less than a modern family saloon.

2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Nuerburgring 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Nuerburgring

2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Nuerburgring

Lot #256 (Sale Order 57 of 63)

Number 102 of 108 special-edition Nuerburgring Giulia cars, one for each year of Alfa's history.
  • UK-supplied, right-hand drive car, one of only 12 we believe. Delivery miles (5) only

  • Finished in a distinctive Circuito Grey matte paint with 'NRING' badges, carbon fibre roof, side skirts and mirror caps

  • Carbon-ceramic brakes, Sparco carbon fibre seats and interior trim and a Mopar-branded gear lever

  • Top speed of 191mph and 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, helping propel the car to its record-setting saloon lap time at the Nürburgring late last year of 7 minutes 32 seconds

  • Rarity always has its followers and we suspect that these limited-edition Alfas will remain sought-after

Seven minutes 32 seconds. The time it took this incredible saloon car to navigate the world’s most notorious circuit, Nürburgring Nordschleife. That time broke the current saloon car record giving Alfa instant bragging rights amongst manufacturers of high-performance saloons and the subsequent International publicity attached to the limited-edition Nurburgring Giulia rendered it an instant cult-car. With no small input from their Marketing Department, Alfa decided to build 108 examples to correspond with the number of years Alfa Romeo has been making cars so it was always going to be a rare car, even rarer in right-hand drive with only 12 earmarked for the UK.

Over the standard road car, the Nürburgring edition boasted a plethora of upgrades and extras, justifying the original retail price of £82,000. It is powered by Alfa Romeo’s famous 510hp 2.9-litre 6 V 90°-cylinder Bi-Turbo engine which, thanks to the extensive use of aluminium and carbon fibre, is remarkably light and retardation is courtesy of bespoke carbon-ceramic brake discs.

Styling was naturally very important in the creation of this limited-edition car. Designed to please the true enthusiast, and as Alfa Romeo claim “inspired by the category record set on the legendary German track”, continuing that it is “destined to become a true collector item”. Motorsport cues abound with extensive amounts of carbon fibre on the bonnet, sunroof, rear spoiler, side skirts, front V-grille, and mirror caps.

The Giulia Nürburgring edition is equipped with all the innovative Alfa Romeo infotainment systems, from 3D Navigator maps, an 8.8” display, Harman Kardon sound theatre and Apple CarPlay for syncing with mobile phones.

This car has covered less than 5 delivery miles and is finished in a distinctive Circuito Grey matte paint with NRING badges and sports bright red calipers peeking out from Clover-Leaf alloys finished in eggshell black. It was purchased from Alfa Romeo UK and has been kept with them by the vendor ever since. It, therefore, comes with everything it was originally supplied with, from the scale model of the car, the gloves and race suit, to the book packs and manuals.

A superb opportunity here, to own what is set to become one of Alfa Romeo's historic cars.

1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III 1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III

1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III

Lot #257 (Sale Order 58 of 63)

A really well restored 3000 MkIII BJ8 in a classic colour combination
  • Destined for North America during April 1964, returning to our shores in May 1991

  • Finished in solid black with red (Ambla) leather interior and a matching red Mohair hood

  • Fully restored a few years ago to a superb standard, currently de-bumpered but supplied with the originals

  • Supplied with a detailed history file including receipts and old MOTs

  • Accompanying the car is a Heritage Trust Certificate detailing the cars original specification

The 3000 Mk III was launched in October 1963 and remained in production until the end of 1967 when production of Austin-Healeys ceased. Classified as the BJ8, the new model was the most powerful and luxurious of the big Healeys, with a walnut-veneered dash, wind-up windows, and a 150bhp engine, giving a top speed of 121 mph.  Improvements to the engine included a new camshaft, valve springs, and twin SU 2' HD8 carburettors, together with a new design of exhaust system.  Servo-assisted brakes were now fitted as standard. The original phase I BJ8 model featured much slimmer bodywork with smaller, single front sidelights and smaller rear lights versus the larger items on the later ‘Phase II' cars, but pioneered the same engine, wind-up windows, easy-up ‘pram-style hood' and a walnut dash. Out of a total of 17,712 Mk IIIs (phase I and II) just 1,302 phase I cars were produced with over 90% due for export.

ABM 295B was indeed one of those originally sent over to the United States and was shipped on 28/04/1964 returning in May 1991. Cars imported from the US seldom have much in the way of history, which is certainly the case here, but there is an excellent history file with the car now detailing its life in the UK.

The car underwent a thorough restoration and was finished some years ago but still presents extremely well and you would be forgiven for thinking it was restored much more recently such is the quality of the workmanship. Finished in Solid Black with a Red Ambla interior and a striking Red mohair hood this 'Big Healey' has great presence on the open road and offers a superb soundtrack from the big straight-six.

The history file contains the Heritage Certificate detailing the cars original specification and many receipts and old MOTs dating back to 1991 suggesting that the car has been maintained to a high standard. The current custodian favours the sporty de-bumpered look, however, the bumpers and their irons (which are in very good condition) do come with the car should any potential owner wish to return the car back to its original specification.

Carefully restored and well maintained, this is a lovely example of these addictive classics from the mid-sixties and a marvellous opportunity to tick that ‘Big-Healey’ box.

1960 Austin Healey Sprite Mk1 (948cc) 1960 Austin Healey Sprite Mk1 (948cc)

1960 Austin Healey Sprite Mk1 (948cc)

Lot #258 (Sale Order 59 of 63)

From long-term storage and now superbly restored by Memory Lane Classics
  • NSV 288/#45288 was completed on 19/08/1960 and first registered in September 1960

  • Fully restored by Memory Lane Classics, rapidly becoming the country's leading Frog Eye experts

  • Stripped to a bare shell, seam-welded, powder-coated and superbly finished in Primrose Yellow

  • No aspect of the car, no matter how small, was missed. A total of 1,882 parts were replaced

  • This is not a replica or an upgrade. It's the return of NSV 288 to its showroom-fresh best

  • Supplied with its UK V5c, Heritage Certificate, MOT (24/07/2020), buff logbook, and full details of the restoration

The Oxford Dictionary's definition of Spritely is - 'Like a Sprite, lively, nimble, full of energy'- a description that rather neatly fits our brightly-hued little Austin Healey.

A home-market, right-hand drive car, NSV 288 was assembled on chassis number# 45288 and was completed on 19/08/1960. It has spent its whole life in the UK, still sporting its original registration number and was found languishing in a garage in Hampshire, where it had been hidden for the previous seven years, by our vendor, Memory Lane Classics, who are building an excellent reputation as restorers of Frog Eye Sprites. The Sprite was finished in Leaf Green but upon examination, the quality of the repairs was such that it was decided that a full restoration was appropriate.

The body shell was stripped back to bare metal, panels replaced as needed with new, UK-supplied items and seam-welded to form invisible repairs. The entire shell was powder-coated to ensure a rust-free future. Primrose Yellow was the chosen colour and the little car has been superbly finished in this delightful, summer-fresh hue.

Mechanically, no expense was spared with a total of 1,882 parts replaced. The complete drive chain, engine, gearbox, prop shaft, differential, and back axle were re-engineered to better than original condition, all brake parts were renewed, the front suspension and steering mechanism has been replaced, and the fuel system was updated with a new tank, fuel lines, electric petrol pump and inline filter. The SU carburettors were stripped and professionally rebuilt before being refitted and carefully set-up.

The original chrome has been re-plated to better than factory specification and the interior looks showroom-fresh with new black leather seats, new black floor and boot carpets, new trim, and a new wood-rim steering wheel and gear knob. The classic Sprite dashboard has been recovered and all the gauges restored and re-calibrated.

The hood frame was stripped and powder-coated and a new black hood and tonneau cover completed the restoration. Obviously, the full list of parts used during this fastidious restoration is too long to cover here but they are fully documented within the history file along with the car's UK V5c, Heritage Certificate and current MOT which is valid until 24/07/2020.

This is a rare opportunity to purchase a fully restored, period-correct, Frog Eye Sprite. The build quality and finish is outstanding and needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.

1994 Range Rover LSE Limousine 1994 Range Rover LSE Limousine

1994 Range Rover LSE Limousine

Lot #259 (Sale Order 60 of 63)

the sale will include an invitation to the Cartier 'Style at Lux' Concours D'Elegance at the 2020 Goodwood Festival of Speed - 09/07/2020 An amazing vehicle converted by well-known specialists
  • This very special Range Rover is the work of Townley Cross Country Vehicles Ltd.

  • Originally commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei for his younger brother, Prince Jefri, and reputedly cost around £135,000

  • Finished in Rolls-Royce Mason Black over black-piped Oxblood Connolly hide with Wilton carpeting and Burr Walnut embellishment

  • In June 2000, L23 PWT enjoyed its own 15 minutes of fame when it was used to ferry World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Mike Tyson around Glasgow when he fought at Hampden Park (press cuttings on file)

  • Subsequently passed to an owner in Denmark in January 2008

  • Since returning to the UK, the vehicle has been re-registered on its original registration L23 PWT and has been looked after by Range Rover specialists Bishop's Heritage

The 1994 stretched limousine Range Rover offered here is the work of one of the best-known conversion companies of the time ‘Townley Cross Country Vehicles Ltd.’, who were responsible for converting several hundred examples, many of them tailored to the specific requirements of wealthy Middle Eastern clients.

Based on an end-of-the-line, 'soft-dash' 1994 Range Rover Classic LSE, a desirable model in its own right, it took nine months to build and was originally commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei for his younger brother, Prince Jefri. At a reputed cost of around £135,000, Townley stretched the chassis and body by 40?, incorporating two additional fixed Range Rover doors in the centre and a roof raised by 8?. They also installed a laminated sunroof together with darkened windows and a one-piece opening tailgate. Interior features include a full electric centre division with glass panel; three rear seats (two electrically operated); full air conditioning; stereo/CD player and two remote control 8? television monitors with a VHS recorder.

The exterior was painted in Rolls-Royce Mason Black and the interior trimmed in black-piped Oxblood Connolly hide with Wilton carpeting and Burr Walnut embellishments.

In June 2000, ‘L23 PWT’ enjoyed its own ’15 minutes of fame’ when it was used to ferry World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Mike Tyson around Glasgow when he fought at Hampden Park (press cuttings on file). At that time, it was reported that the car had covered 10,000 miles from new and was being offered for sale by the Glasgow Car Company. The vehicle passed to an owner in Denmark in January 2008, but since returning to the UK, it has returned to its original registration ‘L23 PWT’ and been looked after by Range Rover experts ‘Bishop’s Heritage’.

Properly engineered by a renowned specialist and in pristine condition, having covered just an indicated 16,800 miles, this striking vehicle would be ideal for corporate ventures, promotional events or taking your extended family out to lunch.

1987 BMW M635 CSI 1987 BMW M635 CSI

1987 BMW M635 CSI

Lot #260 (Sale Order 61 of 63)

Fabulous, matching-numbers, 286bhp M635 with a manual gearbox.
  • Rare and desirable manual gearbox M-Sport (286bhp). Two former keepers and 126,500 miles

  • First registered to BMW GB and with its first owner for 29 years

  • Really lovely colour combination of Cosmos Blue with a classic blue houndstooth interior

  • Fully maintained by BMW main dealer, Murketts of Cambridge up to 113,000 miles

  • Excellent bodywork after recent attention. Wings and sills removed, restored and refitted

  • Mechanically and electrically refreshed by BMW specialists Retro Engineering of Redditch in 2018

  • Original owner’s handbook, service book, many invoices, old MOTs and a current MOT (13/06/2020)

The brainchild of BMW's Motorsport department, the M635CSi version of the E24 6-Series arrived in 1984. Its engine was a development of the M1 supercar's 3.5-litre, 24-valve six-cylinder unit producing 286bhp, the increased power necessitating chassis improvements which included altered weight distribution, revised suspension, bigger brakes and a limited-slip differential. There was also a close-ratio five-speed gearbox (or four-speed multi-mode auto) and a more luxurious interior, while outwardly this ultimate 6-Series model was readily distinguishable by virtue of its 'M Technic' body kit. Performance was emphatically in the supercar league, the M635CSi being capable of reaching 62mph in around 6 seconds on its way to a top speed in excess of 155mph.

This fabulous, matching numbers, manual gearbox, M88-powered 'Sharknose' is on offer from a private collection of desirable classic BMWs and is presented in the rare colour combination of Cosmos Blue with a blue houndstooth interior. Our vendor is only the second recorded owner after GB UK, the first having owned it for 29 years (during which time it was exclusively serviced by the supplying BMW main dealer, Murketts of Cambridge, the last entry being at 113,000 miles). The car is accompanied by an extensive history file which includes the original owner’s handbook and service book in its original wallet. There are also many invoices, old MOT test certificates and the car's current MOT (13/06/2020). After purchasing the BMW in 2016, our vendor attended to some areas of the bodywork that he felt needed bringing up to the standard of the rest of the car so the wings and sills were removed, restored and refitted (photos on file). In 2018, the car received a mechanical and electrical refresh by BMW marque specialists Retro Engineering of Redditch and everything is now in good order, with an engine bay that also presents well.

The BMW M635CSi exudes an incomparable dynamism and is becoming increasingly sought-after. Fewer than 6,000 were built, and even fewer in right-hand drive. In this rare colour and this lovely condition, we anticipate that this desirable example will attract many admirers.

1949 Land Rover Series I 1949 Land Rover Series I

1949 Land Rover Series I

Lot #261 (Sale Order 62 of 63)

The connoisseur's choice; a 'lights behind the grille', superbly restored.
  • Dispatched on the 09/11/1949 to the supplying dealer North Road Garages Ltd., Grantham

  • Remarkably the car has only two registered keepers and was restored for our vendor by Wandsworth

  • Classically finished in Bronze Green to an exacting standard with new canvas tilt and seating

  • Reconditioned gearbox, axles and transmission with new brakes, wiring loom and carburettor

  • The side-valve engine has been re-bored to 2-litres. Presented to auction with its Heritage Certificate

  • This early 'lights behind the grille' example is the collectors choice and few have been this well restored

In 1947, whilst holidaying at his North Wales farm, Rover's chief designer Maurice Wilks came up with a plan to produce a light agricultural utility vehicle in the style of the Willys Jeep. He would have no idea that his design would become an icon and launch a whole new industry sector. The original Land Rover was presented in Sage Green with a canvas roof and revolutionised rural transport. As an engineering marvel it can still outstrip its modern counterparts, and the Series I rightly belongs in the Motoring Hall of Fame. Hugely successful globally, dozens of improvements were made throughout the long production run. The holy grail for any Land Rover enthusiast is an early Series I, and there are a number of visual clues for an early car the most obvious of which are the lights behind the grille, no exterior door handles and a ‘side plate' engine.

Despatched on the 09/11/1949 to the supplying dealer North Road Garages in Grantham this Series 1 was sold to the first of just two owners. It has been extensively restored to a very high standard from a bare original chassis, re-built with sheradised (dry galvanised) nuts and bolts. The Wandsworth supplied body was bare metal re-sprayed in the original Deep Bronze Green with matching interior, new canvas hood and seats, reconditioned gearbox, axles and transmission, the list is exhaustive. The side valve petrol engine has been re-bored to 2-litres for more power and the car is presented to auction in very good order.

1991 Porsche 944 (952) Turbo 1991 Porsche 944 (952) Turbo

1991 Porsche 944 (952) Turbo

Lot #262 (Sale Order 63 of 63)

Smart 944 Turbo from two caring owners with an excellent service history
  • 250 bhp '952' engine from the 'S' with a 5-speed transaxle manual gearbox

  • Finished in Schwarz Metallic with a Linen leather interior in truly excellent condition

  • Full Porsche and specialist service history, with numerous invoices verifying the recorded 82,300 miles, MOT'd until 18/09/2020

  • Little use over the last ten years. Maintained by OPH Porsche to ensure its in excellent mechanical order

  • Electric removable sunroof, with provision for storage in the boot. Original tool kit and air compressor

Following the international success of the 924, a more powerful Porsche-designed all-alloy, 2.5-litre inline-four, producing 163 bhp, was introduced in 1982 for the 944. Porsche engineers were able to produce a very smooth running four-cylinder engine by utilising two counter-rotating balance shafts running at twice engine speed. These carry eccentric weights which produce inertial forces that balance out the unbalanced secondary forces, making a four-cylinder engine feel as smooth as a six. Cosmetically, the bodywork was revised with wider wheel arches (similar to that of the 924 Carrera GT), a fresh interior and upgrades to the braking and suspension systems. With greater visual presence and the performance to match, better handling, stopping power and more creature comforts, the 944 was a major step forward. A turbo version of the 944 was always on the cards, and it boosted the 2.5-litre engine by nearly 60bhp, whilst both the clutch and gearbox were uprated to suit. For 1988, a Turbo SE was offered with 250bhp thanks to a larger turbocharger, the transmission was again upgraded, and a limited-slip diff was fitted along with uprated brakes and Koni dampers. From 1989-1991 the 'SE' specification was adopted for the standard 944 Turbo making it somewhat of a sleeping giant.

Offered here is a lovely, last of the line (952 engine code) UK-supplied, Porsche 944 Turbo finished in Schwarz Metallic with a contrasting Linen leather interior in excellent condition. The service records in the car's comprehensive history file details maintenance by both Porsche main dealer and specialists, most recently by OPH Porsche, upholding this lovely 944 Turbo’s mechanical health. The tyres are all in very good condition and importantly the correct sizes and Porsche approved and the car's original tool kit and air compressor are where they are supposed to be. In addition to the Service Record, which corroborates the indicated mileage of 82,300, the owner's file contains the original manuals, older MOTs and a number of invoices.

Presented with a recent MOT Certificate (18/09/2020), this lovely example, competitively guided opens the door to the very exclusive club of Turbo Porsche ownership.
