This is the First Bicentennial Edition in honor of the bicentennial anniversary of the establishment of the United States of America. Signed by both the author on the title page and also by the craftsman in charge of the binding via a tipped in Certification of First Edition, which states, to wit: "Certification of First Edition - This certifies that this volume of Lafayett in America by Louis Gottschalk was produced as part of the single private printing and binding of this limited first edition, spine and covers in pure 24-karat gold. The six bound-in plates one Woodbine enamel are direct lithographs of the original Revolutionary War maps." Binding of this copy was completed before March 24, 1976. Copy number AG 788.
