Erich Heckel 1913 Erich Heckel 1913

Erich Heckel 1913 "Frau " Black & Red Woodcut

Lot #164 (Sale Order 181 of 255)

Heckel, Erich-1913 "Frau",Signed Colored Woodcut. Mr. Darsky purchased this work from Manuel Bilsky in 1990. His folio of notes on this work with letters, in partial, as follows: It appears that Mr. Bilsky, in Ann Arbor Michigan, acquired this work in 1987 as there is a letter from Wolfgang Wittrock that lists this or a very similar piece as item No. 40 Heckel, Liegende with price stated as DM 12,000. A handwritten letter on legal lined paper states, Provenance 1. David Linden bought it at a Martin Gordon Auction 2/3.Bilsky acquired from Linden 3.Bilsky sent to London Arts who advertised as follows: Frau, 1913 wdct in Black and Red, Dube 259 II/a, small edition on deluxe paper,: before the edition of 100 published in Ganymeade-Mappe Portfolio in which the name was changed to "Liegende"-possiblybecause there was already a "FRAU" in the Dube. It went to Al Dettore and I got it back from him in Sept. 1986. 4. Here are some relevant excerpts from recent auction history. ** Noting Prices realized are probably for the later editions c.1925. Lempertz $4355.00, SPB N.Y. $3690.00, etc... Wittrock Catalog #5, Item 49-1986 displays this print prominently. Another notation in the letter reads" About the Title: Liegende is a little misleading , ordinarily we'd translate tat as Reclining Woman, but the womian in the image doesn't appear to be reclining. An alternative translation might be, I think, The Woman Left Behind. This makes a little more sense e.g. The agonized look on her face. There are additional notes and old photos that will be included to the new owner. Purchase price was $6,000.00 in 1990. See attached photos as evidence of condition and details.

1977 George Tooker "Voice" Signed Lithograph.

Lot #167 (Sale Order 185 of 255)

1977 George Tooker "Voice" Signed Lithograph. Noted October 1996 estimate by letter for auction by Sothebys $1000-1500. Another Letter dated more recently August 25, 2008 to Anna Darsky from Heidi Lange Diretor DC Moore Galler in N.Y. states, "Thank you for your inquiry. The George Tooker pint Voice is currently available and the price is 4,000.00 Ther prints are trial proofs from the edition. ** Note: Trial Proofs are not numbered**. The letters and notes will be included with the shipment of this artwork to the new owner. George Clair Tooker, Jr. (August 5, 1920 – March 27, 2011) was an American figurative painter. His works are associated with Magic realism, Social realism, Photorealism and Surrealism. His subjects are depicted naturally as in a photograph, but the images use flat tones, an ambiguous perspective, and alarming juxtapositions to suggest an imagined or dreamed reality. He did not agree with the association of his work with Magic realism or Surrealism, as he said, "I am after painting reality impressed on the mind so hard that it returns as a dream, but I am not after painting dreams as such, or fantasy." In 1968, he was elected to the National Academy of Design and was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Tooker was one of nine recipients of the National Medal of Arts in 2007. Anna Darsky Holocaust Survivor Hidden Silver Lot from WWII Anna Darsky Holocaust Survivor Hidden Silver Lot from WWII

Anna Darsky Holocaust Survivor Hidden Silver Lot from WWII

Lot #220 (Sale Order 241 of 255)

We have contacted a family member to get the accurate story, recorded, of Anna Darsky's story. We do know that her mother and her fled as the Nazi Soldiers were entering their hometown, quickly gathering precious family items and fleeing into the hillside. I was present when Anna told her story and she clearly recalled these Silver items being placed in burlap bags and carried some distance to be buried in a farmer's field. She also stated that it was the Danish Red Cross took them to Copenhagen, they then traveled to Goteborg and boarded a ship bound for Australia as the Suez Canal was still full of Mines. After (6) weeks of traveling Anna and her mom arrived to live with her Uncle in Australia for about 15-17 years, However, her mother had family friends return to their homeland 5 years after the end of World War II tracing their steps back to that field and digging up the Silver items offered in this lot. ** Please Note ** Relatives of Anna have been advised this lot is being offered here at public auction. We are hopeful that someone in the family or one of the many Holocaust Museum Collections will share Anna's Story and display these items proudly. The back of each piece is marked "ELZA". Elza is a Hebrew name and means 'joy'. It is the feminine form of Elez. On rare occasions, Elza is used as a nickname for Elizabeth, in the same way Elsa can be for Elisabeth. However, as detailed above, Elza is a name with its own distinct origin and not simply a derivation of Elizabeth. The back of the "Silver" is marked 800 and the ARANY Hallmark indicating date of manufacture 1902-1917. There are 90 pieces in total associated with this lot. 90 pieces. Brancusi Muse -Margit Pognany Original Artwork Brancusi Muse -Margit Pognany Original Artwork

Brancusi Muse -Margit Pognany Original Artwork

Lot #225 (Sale Order 247 of 255)

We are confident this is one of the largest groupings/collections of Magrit Pognany original works owned by a single person as Anna Darsky was her Niece. A personal note found in the Darsky Fine Arts Schedule states " Pogany- Anna's Aunt- THIS ART IS FOR ANNA- NOT FOR SALE". This lot is (1)One of 7(Seven) Pogany Original works offered from the Darsky Trust. This piece measures: Subject: 9"x13" on Board Framed: 13 1/2"x17" The following is quite fascinating.. Born in Hungary in 1880, Margit Pogany was a painter and favorite model of the Romanian sculptor, Constantin Brancusi. She studied in Hungary and France before her arrival in Australia in 1948. Pogany's paintings are typically central European in style and theme. Margit Pogàny(1880-1964) was a Hungarian painter whose works were typically central European in style and theme. She moved to Australia in 1948. She died in 1964. Constantin Brâncusi, French, born Romania, 1876-1957, known principally for his sculpture, used photography not just to document his work but to interpret and transform it. He staged his Paris studio as an ever-changing theater for his camera, juxtaposing selected pieces and depicting the contrast of shapes and surfaces at play among them. Brâncusi first met Margit Pogány, a young Hungarian painter, in Paris in 1910, and over the next several decades he made several sculptures of her head—in plaster, marble, and highly polished bronze. This version emphasizes Pogány’s enormous eyes, which Brâncusi felt were her most distinguishing feature. The eyes in turn seem to capture the entire studio, reflecting the artist and his camera, but also the surrounding array of works, so that the sculpture performs like a soloist in a large ensemble.
