Green Nephrite Jade Snuff Bottle Circa 1800-1860
Lot #501 (Sale Order 1 of 178)
Rectangular jade snuff bottle of celadon nephrite resting on a neat foot rim with a skin of dark olive brown carved on the front with two confronting archaic dragons. The reverse side has a carved phoenix in a peony tree. The bottle is well hollowed and a coral top set in brass is on top. Circa 1800-1860. This originally came from the collection of Edward Choate O’Dell. This was purchased from Carey
Stanley in Memphis, Tennessee in September 1989 for $2500.

Chien Lung Scepter- 3 Jade Insets –Used by Shanghai Official Circa 1736-1796
Lot #552 (Sale Order 53 of 178)
The scepter is rosewood with mutton fat jade. This pieces is 24 inches long without the tassel. The jade insets measure: 4.5 x 5, 3 x 4.5, & 3.5 x 2.5 inches. This scepter is from the Ching Dynasty of the Chien Lung period 1736-1796. The scepter was used by the Shanghai official as the symbol of his office. This was acquired from Sadow’s Auction Gallery in Clarkston, Michigan in August 1995 for $3500. Note, a similar scepter from the 19th century was purchased from Sothebys auction for $3737.00 on September 17, 1998.

After research, we believe the (3)Inset Stones to be Hetian or Hotan Jade varying in color from White to Light Yellow. All 3 stones are cold to the touch, very Hard in composition and do not scratch.
There are no cracks in the jade, the upper wood handle has a small hairline crack. Please view the pictures at the end for close ups and detail of the jade.

Estimate was $3000-5000. She purchased it for $2900.00 at this auction.

The pair of traditional dogs come in a pair as male “a” (opened mouth) and female “un” (closed mouth). The combination “a-un” is Japanese and are called Komainu. In Okinawa, these dogs are found all over and formally in entrances of Shinto Shrines and are called shisa. The Chinese call them Shishi (stone lion). The Koreans called them haechi. These guardian lion dogs have multiple names and span all over the globe.

Hereke rugs are from the small town of Hereke in Turkey (near Istanbul). Hereke silks incorporate up to 800 knots per square inch. These Turkish rugs normally do not follow traditional styles but that of Persian design but highly sought after and at a high price. Hereke has been making fine and tight silk rugs since the 19th century under the establishment of the Sultan of Turkey.

This Fine Kimono Artwork is framed and we did not remove it from the frame. We believe it to be similar in style to origami and appears to be a type of fine paper or fiber material. Measurements are 28\" Across Arms, 38 1/2\' Tall, 12\" Belt Band at middle of dress and 27\" at widest point of lower dress. Overall Framed 44\" x 52\". Dr. Teal had no record of where or from whom she acquired. Back of the frame is marked from a Seattle, Washington frame company.
Fabulous 1923 Mason & Hamlin Model A Grand Piano- Documented-Completely Restored

This piano belonged to Dr. Mary Durden Teal, professor emeritus at Eastern Michigan University and wife of Dr. Larry Teal the first university professor of saxophone in the United States. Fabulous 1923 Mason & Hamlin Grand Piano- Documented- was Completely Restored by Arno Patin Piano Studio from September 2006 until June 2007. We have exceptional documentation including all email communication along with reports and receipts for all work performed. Mr. Patin also installed the Piano Life Saver 6-Part Humidification System at time of completing the restoration. The Block and Action was completed by Arno Patin and the Wood refinishing work was completed by Littlefield & Sons. Mr. Patin's bill was $13,303.00 and Littlefield's Bill was $3,000.00; for a total cost of restoration in excess of $16,000.00 not including the initial cost of acquiring the piano itself. This is attributed to the 15th century "Madonna and Child" by Antonello da Messina (1430-1479) Mary w/ Baby Jesus Painted on Wood Icon Piece Framed. This piece is old and probably done after the original.
Frame is 15.5 in. x 12.5 in. The subject art piece is 11.25 in. x 8.25 in.
The original painting was done in 1475 ( Oil and tempera on panel transferred from panel) and resides in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC.

These are all beautifully carved and painted. There are wire ring mounted in the back for hanging.

Melon shape with shaded beige to peach satin finish. Hand-painted with gold fern and black leaves. Inside cover and pierced domed cover with finial.
13 inches tall overall, jar is 8 in. Overall width is 9 inches.
(Good condition) except cover, the finial which was mended.

Stanley William Hayter (1901-1988) was an English painter and print-maker associated in the 1930s with Surrealism. In 1940 and onward he was associated with Abstract Expressionism. Hayter was one of the most significant print-makers of the 20th century. In 1927, Hayter founded the Atelier 17 studio in Paris, France.
