Lynyrd Zkynyrd Ronnie Van Zant Personally Owned Blue Jeans Lot #5A (Sale Order 6 of 145) Lynyrd Zkynyrd Ronnie Van Zant Personally Owned Blue Jeans Worn on MCA Records Signing Day W/Photographs, Notarized Letter of Provenance & More - This museum worthy piece of rock n' roll memorabilia are denim blue jeans which were personally owned and worn by Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Zkynyrd. According to our seller, he received these pants directly from Van Zant one day in the summer of 1974 prior to the band's concert in Louisville, Kentucky. In a highly detailed notarized letter of provenance our client details his experience on that day, when he decided to try to get a glimpse of his favorite band by going to the Holiday Inn which they were staying. He was able to locate the band along with his friend, as the friend was working for the limousine service that was catering celebrities. Our seller brought a confederate flag in hopes that the band would agree to sign it for him, and he discovered Ronnie Van Zant who he states was "soaking wet, wearing only a towel and carrying an ice bucket." Van Zant invited the friends to follow him to his room around the corner, where they discovered blood and broken glass everywhere from what Van Zant described as a fight between band members Allen Collins and Billy Powell. Although Ronnie explained "don't worry, we do this all the time," this particular event became the infamous fight which got the group a lifetime ban from Holiday Inn. The group began to sign the flag until Artimus Pyles stated that he couldn't sign as it would be defacing the flag. The boys then decided to burn the flag, and followed Ronnie to his room where they proceeded to place the flag in the bathtub and burn it. Ronnie came back from his bedroom bringing a pair of denim blue jeans and according to our client stated, "I was wearing these pants the day I signed with MCA Records, they're my lucky pants and I take em with me on every tour." The pair of friends eventually followed the group to the show following behind their limousine. The pants will be accompanied by (7) copies of original photographs of that day, including a photo of Ronnie with our client and a photo of Van Zant signing these pants (our client wishes to keep the originals as they are deeply sentimental). Please note that the signatures have now faded due to age, as is stated in the letter of provenance. Our client remained a fan of the group, keeping in contact with Van Zant until one day in October, 1977 when he was at his local radio station in Chattanooga, Tennessee with his bandmates preparing for Lynyrd Skynyrd's arrival the next morning. According to the letter of provenance, he had "talked with Ronnie and we were to meet the plane and see the show." Our client was standing reading the Asociated Press news teletype, when information ran across regarding a plane crash. He tore the paper off and ran into the newsroom where he then called the hospital and discovered that tragically the band's plane had crashed. He began to write the conditions of the group on the teletype paper and the DJ read the unforunate news that Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray were killed on impact.

Marilyn Monroe's Gown & Shawl (Estate of May Mann) Lot #13 (Sale Order 15 of 145) Marilyn Monroe's 1950s Personally Owned Gown & Shawl From the Estate of May Mann (Exhibited at Magic Castle Museum) - This 1950s gown and shawl were personally owned by Marilyn Monroe. The gown was later given to Hollywood reporter and socialite May Mann, who began her journalism career in Utah in 1934 and quickly gained her way up the social ladder, branching into Hollywood news by waiting at the Union Station to meet the stars passing through. She began frequently traveling to Hollywood becoming friends with the likes of Jayne Mansfield, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe and writing articles and interviews which were syndicated to over 400 newspapers and publications. Mann was known to ask for mementos from her celebrity friends, and acquired this dress and shawl from Marilyn Monroe. Mann owned the gown until the April, 1992 (around the same time that she bequeathed a lifetime of newspaper and magazine clippings about herself and her career to the Brigham Young University archives in Ogden, Utah), when she gave it to Arlene and Milt Larsen, founders of the historic Magic Castle, along with gowns owned by Mary Pickford and Jayne Mansfield to exhibit at their museums. The gown will come with an inventory sheet on Mann's personal letterhead listing the items loaned to the Larsens, along with correspondence from Arlene Larsen regarding a previous sale of the gown dated 2016 (22 years after they received the gown the Magic Castle attempted to sell it at auction). This inventory sheet lists descriptions of the items along with notes from Mann telling how she wanted the items to be handled in the future, as she was 84 years old at the time. This correspondence suggests that Mann had the gown alter to fit her so she could wear it to different events, as she did with many of the dresses that she was gifted from her girlfriends, and that the Larsens had it restored to its original size. The gown will also come with extensive research and documentation about the life and career of May Mann, and this gown. The gown bears an interior Emeson's, Studio City clothing label, a wardrobe company in the 1950s which provided clothing to various film and television projects and dressed Jayne Mansfield and others.
