BAVARIAN STEIN FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR ALLEGORY 1871 Lot #3013 (Sale Order 13 of 492) 19th century Bavarian beer stein. Stein depicts a pillow fight with Der Deutsche Michel as a dwarf in lederhosen fending off Napoleon III, also as a dwarf, on a bed (possibly representing Alsace-Lorraine). The stein was designed so that Napoleon III's head is the thumblift and his hips are the hinge. The handle and stein surface feature the stylized, exaggerated faces of colonized Africans among other decorative motifs. 8 x 4 not counting the handle.
